A
I recently received an email. It began with the word “Warning”.“Warning,” the stranger had written.“This post could be a trigger for the trying to conceive/miscarriage community.” I belong to neither community, and as I clicked to read the whole story I felt an uneasy pulse of social media sympathy—part goodness, part gossip. But it turned out that there was a surprise party with a cake and balloons. My stranger was having a baby, after much difficulty.
Some will say that we should stop sharing life's milestones and comforts with online strangers.Others will say that people have the right to mark these events and display their privileges however they want. The debate whirls around and around. It's more interesting to think about the type of culture we'll continue to build out of social media's bizarre architecture. With every warning or disclaimer (免责声明) that we attach to our happy bulletins,we're imagining the responses of others.
We've all heard the horror stories of social media.Problems like cyber-bulling and scandals have spread fears among some users. However, social media use has many positives that we are consistently overlooking.Social media makes us more social. The positive impacts of social media perhaps outweigh the negatives by allowing us to engage more with people we know, people we don't and create positive changes by a few taps on a screen.
Social media allows us to be more engaged with people we already know. From my own experience,I know that the relationships I've built with other people have only been stronger because of social media by allowing me the ability to keep up with their lives regardless if I'm able to see them in person. Many of us were separated from our friends and family once we left for college, and social media effortlessly aids us in keeping those relationships.
Above everything else, social media allows us to make strong and lasting relationships with people without the hesitation or fear of putting ourselves in physical danger. We can reach out to people and engage in conversation in a safe environment.
1.Why does the author mention his personal experience in paragraph 1?
A.To show the convenience that social media brings to us.
B.To describe the complicated feeling after receiving the email.
C.To lead to the topic of social media's problems and benefits.
D.To explain the main reason why he dislikes social media.
2.What does the underlined word in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Overestimating.
B.Neglecting.
C.Mentioning.
D.Avoiding.
3.Which of the following benefits of social media is not mentioned in the passage?
A.It helps us to keep in contact with the people we already know.
B.It enables us to maintain strong and lasting relationships with others.
C.It allows us to help people in need without putting ourselves in danger.
D.It drives us to go out of the comfort zone and make more new friends.
4.What is the author's attitude towards social media?
A.Positive.
B.Negative.
C.Indifferent.
D.Unclear.
B
Many of us are quick to blame others for how we feel:“He makes me so mad!” or “She really hurt my feelings.” But did someone really “make me angry” or are we feeling the anger in us getting kicked up in response to the way someone behaved towards us?
The difference between the two is in who the responsible party is for the way we feel.If we blame others for our feelings we will eventually feel reasonable at whatever our retaliation(报复)may be,and we will explain that it was their fault, not ours.“They were driving me mad.”
When we blame others for the way we feel we have in fact given power to others for the state of our emotional well-being (健康).The truth is no one controls our feelings but us.If we are finding that people in our lives really know how to “push_our_buttons” then we are not doing a good enough job at protecting our “buttons”.We are the ones leaving our buttons out in the open so that other people can“push them”.Ultimately, the switch for our buttons is inside us—not on the outside.
While there are some things in life that are clearly out of our control, like the weather or a flight that's two hours late, how we act and respond to other people's behavior is not among them. Our responses to others are well within our control.
If someone is “making us” so mad,for example, that we get angry,we are not doing enough to learn about what drives our anger and how to properly cope with it.My suggestion is taking time before you get angry, and putting some work into taking an inventory (清单) of the past.An inventory can show you how much of your past experiences influence your feeling reactions in the current moment.
When we finally realize that so much of our present feelings and reactions are driven from within ourselves and our own past experiences,we will be ready to make the changes in our lives that will better secure our buttons so that they are no longer left out in public for everyone to push at will.
5.What result will appear if we blame others for our emotions?
A.We consider others to be correct.
B.We consider ourselves to be correct.
C.We consider we were driving ourselves mad.
D.We consider they were driving themselves mad.
6.What's the author's attitude towards feelings?
A.We should blame others for the way we feel.
B.We should enable others to control our feelings.
C.We should let others know our daily life clearly.
D.We should control personal feelings ourselves.
7.Which proverb best suits the author's advice in paragraph 5?
A.A burden of one's choice is not felt.
B.A friend is easier lost than found.
C.Think twice before acting.
D.A good beginning is half done.
8.What does the underlined phrase “push our buttons” probably mean in paragraph 3?
A.Force us to do a good job.
B.Make us angry.
C.Take off our buttons.
D.Let us down.

根据上文“Problems like cyber-bulling and scandals have spread fears among some users.”
根据文章第三段“The positive impacts of social media perhaps outweigh the negatives...”
根据第二段的“If we blame others for our feelings we will eventually feel reasonable at whatever our retaliation (报复) may be,and we will explain that it was their fault, not ours.”
根据第三段的“The truth is no one controls our feelings but us.”
根据第五段中的“My suggestion is taking time before you get angry, and putting some work into taking an inventory (清单) of the past.An inventory can show...”
根据第三段中的“The truth is no one controls our feelings but us.If we are finding that people in our lives really know how to ‘push_our_ buttons’ then we are not doing a good enough job at protecting our ‘buttons’.”
1.D 根据空后的“of self-introductions”和上文中的“asked me to join a seminar on culture and emotion”可知,作者参加了一个研讨会,在会上大家依次做一轮自我介绍。故选D。
2.A 根据空后的“as one of those who are ‘interested in culture and emotion’”和下文中的“saying I was one of the world's experts”可知,作者介绍自己的时候说自己只是一个对文化和情感感兴趣的人,而教授却说作者是专家,由此可知,作者介绍自己的时候非常谦虚。故选A。
5.D 根据空后的“and thought that ‘expert’ was a big word”可知,作者觉得用专家来形容自己显得太过了,感觉很尴尬。故选D。
6.B 根据下文中的“they thanked me for the dinner”可知,作者的新朋友来作者家里吃饭。
8.A 根据空前的“My heart”可知,作者听到客人们的感谢后心情低落,my heart sinks意为“情绪低落”。故选A。
9.D 根据下文中的“they made me think they were distancing themselves from me”可知,在作者自己的文化中,感谢别人的饭说明这段关系很疏远。
11.B 根据空后的“but instead made me uncomfortable”可知,空处表达内容应和uncomfortable相反,教授的本意是想让作者感觉良好。故选B。
12.A but前后表示转折,but后的“they made me think they were distancing themselves from me”讲朋友们感谢作者的招待让作者感觉他们在疏远自己,所以这里应是说朋友们本意是想表示感激。故选A。
13.D 根据句中的“We think about emotions as feelings deep inside us”可知,这里是将我们认为的和实际相比较。
