The history of the Forbidden City begins in the 15th century and it was built as the palace of the Ming emperors of China. It is in the centre of Beijing, China. It was the Chinese imperial (皇家的) palace from the mid-Ming Dynasty (朝代) to the end of the Qing Dynasty in 1912.
Ancient Chinese people showed their great skills in building the Forbidden City. Take the grand red city wall for example. It has an 8.6 metres wide base and is 6.66 metres wide at the top. The angular (有棱角的) shape of the wall makes it impossible for people to climb it. But some are broken because of the rain.
Now the Palace Museum is responsible for the protection of Forbidden City. Building heights around the Forbidden City are limited. In 2005, a sixteen-year restoration project was started to repair all buildings in the Forbidden City. This is the largest restoration of the Forbidden City undertaken in two centuries. Also, as a project, some destroyed sections are being rebuilt. The gardens of the Palace of Establishing Prosperity (建福宫), destroyed by fire in 1923, were rebuilt in 2005, but remain closed to the public.

The moon is at its brightest on the 15th day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar (阴历). On this day, people celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival. It has been enjoying great popularity all over the country.
In ancient China, that day was a harvest (收获) festival because crops (庄稼) were harvested during that period. It was a time for relaxation and celebration.
Just like Thanksgiving in Western countries, families also try to get together for the Mid-Autumn Festival in China. Usually, no matter how far away or how busy they are, people will try to return home for the celebration.
The Mid-Autumn Festival has its own special food just as other traditional Chinese holidays. People eat moon cakes with fillings such as sugar and eggs. The round shape of the cakes makes it look like the full moon. The full moon and moon cakes stand for family reunion (团聚).
With the beautiful moon up in the sky, people sit together, enjoy the full moon, eat moon cakes and fruit, share the stories, and express the best wishes for the family members and friends who live far.

Amy is a biologist (生物学家) working at a marine (海洋的) park. These kinds of parks provide fun and education for tens of thousands of people each year.
Amy takes care of many animals in the park, but she also does important research. As she observes the animals that she looks after carefully, she learns more about their needs and behavior (行为). This information helps the animals in the park and in the wild.
It’s hard work to look after these animals. Their needs often change according to different hours of the day. So Amy must depend on her science knowledge and good number sense to help her make the right decisions all day long.
Even though dolphins (海豚) spend much of their time underwater, they are mammals (哺乳动物), mother dolphins must nurse, or feed milk to their babies.
Amy and her team know this first-hand. One of their dolphins recently gave birth. A baby dolphin is not small, either. It was almost 1 meter long the day it was born. A big dolphin usually eats about 4% of its body weight in food every day. Amy knows that a mother dolphin that is nursing needs twice the food.
A few days later, my father came home. When my dad used the computer, he found that some of his documents were missing. He was very angry with me. I told him the truth, and offered to give up my pocket money to repair it.
