China is leading in the motor industry, selling more cars than any other country, thanks to its successful electric car makers. A lot of the success comes from china being the world's biggest battery maker, too. And about drones, china rules the skies. Next time you see a considerable number of drones, there's a seventy percent chance they are made in changing in solar panels too. China is responsible for an estimated ninety percent of the global supply chain. By twenty twenty eight, it's predicted that sixty percent of the world's renewable energy will be generated in china. I was born in a small town in Pakistan called Quetta in 1980. When I was a little boy of about ten years old. I developed an interest in calligraphy. Back then we only had a TV channel with limited programs, One of the programs was about learning calligraphy. I was engaged and spent several years learning different calligraphy scripts (笔迹) in the Urdu language.
After graduation, I came to Dubai, UAE. Falling in love with the architecture and high-rise buildings, I wanted to shoot the amazing beauty form different angles. So I bought a camera and learned photography, joined photography groups and attended workshops. After few years, I got bored of photographing landscapes and cityscapes.
Seven years ago, while going through the photography blogs and looking through others’ works. I read the term called “light painting”. a photography technique that allows you to draw in space. I started experimenting with that and soon it hit me: why not bring back my passion for calligraphy using light painting technique? Since that day. I’ve been drawing light calligraphy. To achieve the best results. I decided to build the lights myself. The best part about my work is that they are not photoshopped. I prefer to get the results straight out of the camera. I don’t even turn over the images. To achieve that, I have to write in reverse (倒置) and that took a lot of practice to get it right.
Currently, I’m working on the idea of bringing abandoned places back to life, including buildings which have lost their charm and are hidden in darkness. Through my photography, I try to employ light calligraphy by writing a word that attaches a deep meaning to those places and telling stories behind them. In this way, I hope people will revisit these places and appreciate the real reason for their construction.
1. What initially sparked the author's interest in calligraphy as a child?
A. A television program about calligraphy
B. Attending local calligraphy workshops
C. Influence from family members
D. School assignments requiring calligraphy skills
2. Why did the author begin experimenting with light painting photography?
A. He wanted to escape the boredom of traditional photography.
B. He sought to combine his childhood passion with a new technique.
C. He was inspired by photography blogs to try popular trends.
D. He aimed to create photoshopped images for commercial use.
3. What is a distinctive technical challenge the author faces in creating his light calligraphy works?
A. Using multiple cameras simultaneously
B. Working only in complete darkness
C. Writing in reverse without digital editing
D. Requiring a team of assistants
4. What is the primary goal of the author’s current project?
A. To promote tourism in abandoned locations through social media
B. To showcase the technical possibilities of light painting photography
C. To document architectural decay for historical preservation
D. To revive interest in forgotten places by adding meaningful context through art
A major reason why plastic bags and yogurt containers aren’t recycled is that it’s much more frugal to make these products from the ground up than to recover them. A new recycling technique reported in the journal Science promises a cost-effective way to transform these common plastic waste items into high-quality liquid fuels.
What makes plastics useful, namely their strength and resistance to high temperatures, becomes an annoyance when it comes to recycling the materials. The strong carbon-carbon bonds in these plastics require very high temperatures to break, making the process energy-consuming. Once the bonds break, the smaller molecules (分子) that are created quickly form new bonds, giving unwanted chemicals. These byproducts then have to be broken down again adding time and complexity.
Researchers developed a way to turn these plastics into useful fuels at temperatures below 100℃, without creating any side products. They conduct the chemical reaction in the presence of a new type of catalyst (催化剂) in a special acidic solution. In these reaction conditions, as soon as the carbon bonds in the plastic break apart, new bonds form in a controlled way, giving off the chemicals called alkanes. The alkanes can be used either as a fuel or as raw material for new plastics. The entire reaction takes place in a single reaction container. It takes only three hours and occurs at 70℃. By comparison, existing recycling techniques typically require two stages, take much longer and need temperatures of over 200℃.
The catalyst that the researchers use is already used by some factories. But it will take more research to know whether the technique can be translated to more occasions. If so, such a one-step, low-cost method to turn single-use plastics into chemicals, fuels and high-value materials could go a long way in making the plastic economy sustainable.
1. What is the main advantage of the new recycling method?
A. It requires no catalyst
B. Low temperature with no byproducts
C. Works without energy input
D. Processes all plastics equally
2. How does the author highlight the new method's efficiency?
A. Quoting expert opinions
B. Contrasting with old methods
C. Listing chemical formulas
D. Showing historical data
3. What can be inferred about the technique's future?
A. Needs more research for wider use
B. Will replace all recycling immediately
C. Only suits specific plastic types
D. Too expensive for practical application
4. What is the text mainly about?
A. Criticizing current recycling
B. Advocating plastic reduction
C. Explaining plastic properties
D. Introducing a new recycling method
Telegraphic (电报的) speech, limited to a noun and verb and usually containing little to no grammar, obtains its name from its brief nature. It is characterized by using only the most essential words to get the point across, such as “dog running” instead of “the dog is running”.
Some parents use telegraphic speech when communicating with their children in the belief that speaking this way will enable a child to learn to speak faster because only the key words are employed. Experts disagree, however. Telegraphic speech may block the child from learning proper grammar and word meaning, according to Marc Fey, a professor at the University of Kansas Medical Center. For example, when parents use grammatically correct sentences, a child can learn that words ending in “-ing” are usually verbs, which gives him or her the ability to make clear distinctions between verbs and nouns.
To encourage a child to leave the telegraphic speech stage, parents want to repeat what their child says in a complete, grammatically correct sentence. The Hanen Center recommends this rule: use only the sentences with your child that you use with an adult.
A child’s vocabulary dramatically increases during the post-telegraphic stage. On average, after 24 months, children begin using grammatical constructions of various kinds, such as adding “-ing” to verbs and using define articles such as “the”. Although it may seem that a child’s vocabulary is on decline after leaving this stage, it is actually the contrary. Children begin learning new rules for grammar, which they tend to overgeneralize, thus leading them to make mistakes, such as the use of “-ed” for the past tense of all verbs.
However, parents do not need to worry about these mistakes, as the children are going through a stage that generally passes after they learn and become more familiar with grammar rules. Repeating your child’s sentence with a grammatically correct one will enhance his or her linguistic abilities faster than if you do not correct his or her sentence.
1. What does "telegraphic speech" refer to in the text?
A. Formal language used in telegrams
B. Complete sentences with full grammar
C. Simplified speech using only key words
D. Professional medical terminology
2. What is experts' attitude toward parents using telegraphic speech?
A. Supportive
B. Disapproving
C. Neutral
D. Ambiguous
3. What can be inferred about children's language development after 24 months?
A. They begin to apply grammar rules systematically
B. Their vocabulary size decreases significantly
C. They stop making any grammatical errors
D. They prefer using telegraphic speech permanently
4. What is the text mainly about?
A. Comparing different child language stages
B. Explaining telegraphic speech and its effects
C. Introducing famous child language experts
D. Arguing for early childhood language training
School Uniforms: More Than Just Clothes
In today's world, there are many voices of opposition to the regulations on wearing school uniforms. Some argue uniforms are restrictive and take away individuality. Virtually, uniforms benefit at least three sides.
1 When students come to school dressed in their own clothes, they may feel pressure to keep up with the latest trends or worry about what their peers might think. This can lead to feelings of anxiety and social exclusion. By wearing uniforms, they are on a same level playing field. No one child is better or worse off because of what they are wearing.
This removes the constant comparisons and competition that can be stressful for some students, and instead, establishes a sense of belonging and community.
Wearing a uniform also simplifies the lives of parents and teachers. 2 There is no more worrying about what to wear or stressing about finding the perfect clothing for a special occasion. Parents can distribute more time and resources to their children's education, and teachers can focus on teaching, rather than policing students' dress codes. 3 Uniforms reduce waste and the impact of fast fashion. Sustainability and reusability are their main characteristics.
When students wear the same uniform, they feel a sense of belonging and identity with their school. This can lead to a sense of pride in their school. Uniforms reflect the values and principles of a school, such as teamwork, discipline, and respect, 4
However, adopting a school uniform policy is not easy. It requires careful consideration of the benefits and drawbacks, as well as consultation with all interested parties. 5
A. For one thing, they help create a fair environment for all students.
B. which are essential for a positive and productive learning environment.
C. By weighing the pros and cons, schools can make an informed decision.
D. This is because everyone wears the same clothing regardless of background.
E. As a result, the morning routine becomes much simpler and less stressful.
F. Moreover, uniforms have environmental benefits that are often overlooked.
G. In this way, uniforms serve as a visual representation of school values.
As a child, I was certain that a future in medicine was my calling. I dreamed of developing revolutionary 1 to help people globally.
But as time went by, my 2 felt increasingly out of reach. It was challenging to imagine myself in a profession where individuals from my background were rarely 3 , being one of the few Black students in my science classes. I aspired to become both a 4 and a physician. As a first-generation college student, I also found it difficult to locate mentors who could guide me toward my career objectives. However, my academic advisors were 5 and recommended I concentrate on a single field. These challenges left me 6 my original aspirations.
Everything changed when I discovered rowing. I 7 joined the university's crew team simply to meet new people. Rowing shares the same problem of insufficient 8 as the medical research field, with extremely few Black female participants. When I first joined the team, I felt anxious—similar to my feelings in science classrooms. I expected rowing to be incredibly demanding. Fortunately, my teammates 9 me warmly, offering not just technical advice to enhance my 10 but also making me feel included. Now, when I doubt my 11 in scientific communities, I 12 how I'm already accomplishing what once seemed impossible.
Rowing taught me discipline and a fresh strategy for handling difficult challenges. I began applying this "rowing mindset" to my PhD work: approaching my 13 research projects as series of manageable objectives. Rather than yielding to anxieties about 15 , I concentrated on making each individual step effective. Gradually, I discovered a new sense of 15 both in the laboratory and on the river.

The rise of Chinese AI chatbots has taken the world by storm. But it's part of a wider trend: Chinese apps are rising up the charts around the world. And it's not just on our phones. China is becoming dominant in many other areas of tech. Look at cars. China is leading in the motor industry, selling more cars than any other country thanks to its successful electric car makers. A lot of the success comes from China being the world's biggest battery maker too. And about drones, China rules the skies. Next time you see a considerable number of drones, there's a 70% chance they are made in Shenzhen. In solar panels too, China is responsible for an estimated 90% of the global supply chain. By 2028 it's predicted that 60% of the world's renewable energy will be generated in China.

D. He was willing to dig into calligraphy. (他愿意深入研究书法)
解析: 此题为推理判断题。解题关键在于理解在有限资源条件下的主动学习行为。原文"we only had a TV channel with limited programs"(只有一个频道且节目有限)表明艺术资源匮乏,排除A选项;"I was engaged and spent several years learning"(全心投入并花费数年学习)体现主动深入的钻研精神,对应D选项。B选项错在"特别喜欢频道"而非书法本身;C选项"掌握多种语言"与原文"Urdu language"(乌尔都语)单一语言表述不符。
25. 什么使作者对在迪拜摄影产生兴趣?
答案: A. Visual impacts of structures. (建筑的视觉冲击力)
解析: 此题为细节理解题。解题关键在于定位迪拜部分的感官描述。原文"Falling in love with the architecture and high-rise buildings"(爱上建筑和高楼)及"shoot the amazing beauty"(捕捉惊艳之美)直接对应视觉冲击力。B选项"城市规划"、C选项"建筑故事"、D选项"奇特角度"均未在原文中体现。
26. 作者如何提升光影书法的效果?
答案: B. By sticking to originality. (通过坚持原创性)
解析: 此题为细节概括题。解题需要整合多处的创作原则表述。原文"I decided to build the lights myself"(自制发光工具)、"they are not photoshopped"(拒绝后期修图)、"write in reverse"(反向书写)等细节共同体现了坚持原创的特点。A选项"向他人学习"仅适用于早期摄影阶段;C选项"美化照片"与拒绝修图原则相悖;D选项"开放空间"并非技术核心。
27. 作者在实践当前创意时扮演着什么角色?
答案: C. An artist regenerating forgotten sites. (重焕遗忘场所生机的艺术家)
解析: 此题为角色定位题。解题需要理解当前艺术项目的本质。"bringing abandoned places back to life"(让废弃场所重生)和"telling stories behind them"(讲述背后故事)准确对应艺术家通过创作使场所再生的角色。

Economical(经济的)
解析:此题为词义推测题。解题关键在于结合上下文逻辑关系。原文"It's much more frugal to make these products from the ground up than to recover them"(生产这些新产品比回收它们更加经济实惠)中,通过比较级结构"much more...than"和下文"cost-effective way"(成本效益高的方法)的对应,可推断"frugal"在此处表示"经济的、节约的"。A"典型的"、B"可靠的"、C"合理的"均未能准确体现经济层面的含义。
29. 从第二段中我们可以了解到塑料的什么特性?
答案:C. They are stable in chemical properties(化学性质稳定)
解析:此题为细节理解题。解题需要准确理解塑料的化学特性描述。原文"The strong carbon-carbon bonds in these plastics require very high temperatures to break"(这些塑料中强大的碳-碳键需要极高的温度才能断裂)直接说明其化学稳定性强。A"容易拉伸"与原文"strength"(强度大)矛盾;B"不能耐热"与"resistance to high temperatures"(耐高温性)表述相反;D"产生毒气"在文中未提及,原文只提到"unwanted chemicals"(不需要的化学物质)。
30. 新的塑料回收方式有什么特点?
答案:C. Stressing cleanliness and speed(强调清洁和速度)
解析:此题为细节概括题。需要整合新技术的主要优势。原文"without creating any side products"(不会产生任何副产物)体现清洁性;"It takes only three hours"(仅需三小时)体现速度优势。A"防止新键形成"与原文"new bonds form in a controlled way"(以可控方式形成新的化学键)矛盾;B"调节酸度"只是技术细节(in a special acidic solution)而非核心特点;D"扩展功能"未直接体现。
31. 研究人员对该技术广泛应用持什么态度?
答案:B. Mindful(谨慎的)

B. By defining a concept(通过定义概念)
解析:此题为写作手法题。解题关键在于分析文章开篇的方式。原文首句"Telegraphic speech, limited to a noun and verb and usually containing little to no grammar, obtains its name from its brief nature"(电报式言语通常仅限于一个名词和一个动词,几乎不包含语法结构,因其简洁性而得名)直接对核心概念进行定义,随后通过举例进一步说明其特征。A"提供统计数据"、C"进行对比"、D"引用专家观点"均未在首段体现。
33. 专家为何反对使用电报式言语?
答案:D. It excludes functional words(排除功能词)
解析:此题为细节理解题。解题需要准确把握专家反对的具体理由。原文"Telegraphic speech may block the child from learning proper grammar and word meaning"(电报式言语可能阻碍孩子学习正确语法和词汇含义)以及"only the key words are employed"(只使用关键词)表明,功能词(如冠词、助动词等)的缺失影响语法体系构建。A"危害亲子交流"未提及;B"混淆词性"是结果而非原因;C"忽略上下文线索"与原文无关。
34. 从后电报式阶段我们可以推断出什么?
答案:A. Linguistic learning should be flexible(语言学习应当灵活)
解析:此题为推理判断题。解题关键在于理解过度概括化现象的内涵。原文"Children begin learning new rules for grammar, which they tend to overgeneralize"(孩子们开始学习新的语法规则,但往往会过度概括化)表明机械应用规则会导致错误,因此需要灵活学习。B"词汇量稳定"与原文第四段"A child's vocabulary dramatically increases during the post-telegraphic stage"(在后电报式阶段,儿童的词汇量会急剧增长)直接矛盾;C"不应概括"与语言学习规律不符;D"自然掌握"与需要指导的原文表述相悖。
35. 文章建议家长怎么做?
答案:C. Value targeted language inputs(重视有针对性的语言输入)
解析:此题为细节概括题。需要整合文中多次出现的建议。原文"repeat what their child says in a complete, grammatically correct sentence"(用完整、语法正确的句子重复孩子的话)和"Repeating your child's sentence with a grammatically correct one will enhance his or her linguistic abilities faster"(用语法正确的句子重复孩子的话能更快提升语言能力)都强调针对性输入的重要性。

重点阐述校服如何"减少同辈压力和冲突"(reduce peer pressure and conflict),通过对比穿私服带来的焦虑感,突出校服创造"公平竞争环境"(same level playing field)的优势,最终建立"归属感和共同体意识"(sense of belonging and community)。
承认推行校服政策"并不容易"(not easy),强调需要"仔细考虑利弊"(careful consideration of the benefits and drawbacks)并与所有相关方协商,最终以"优先考虑学生福祉"(prioritizes the well-being of all students)作为决策宗旨。
选项分析
解题思路核心在于"相邻句关键词对应"。五个空格均位于段落中间或结尾位置,不需要理解全文结构,只需把握空格前后句的关键词和逻辑关系即可准确解题。
36题位于首段结尾。根据第二段第一句“Uniforms reduce peer (同辈) pressure and conflict. (校服减少了同辈压力和冲突)”、第三段第一句“Wearing a uniform also simplifies the lives of parents and teachers.(穿校服也简化了家长和老师的生活)”以及第四段第一句“When students wear the same uniform, they feel a sense of belonging and identity with their school.
By wearing uniforms, they are on a same level playing field"(通过穿校服,他们处于相同的竞争环境中)直接给出解决方案,且"same level playing field"与后文"no one child is better or worse off"完美呼应。
38题位于第三段中间。后句提到"Sustainability and reusability are their main characteristics"(可持续性和可重复使用性是主要特点),D选项"Uniforms reduce waste and the impact of fast fashion"(校服减少浪费和快时尚的影响)正好与此形成因果关系,且"fast fashion"与后文的"sustainability"概念直接相关。
39题位于第四段开头。前句提出"归属感和认同感"("a sense of belonging and identity"),B选项"This can lead to a sense of pride in their school"(这可以带来对学校的自豪感)中的"this"指代前文内容,"自豪感"是归属感的自然升华,与后文"反映学校价值观"形成递进关系。
40题位于末段开头。后句出现"requires careful consideration"(需要仔细考虑)和"weighing the pros and cons"(权衡利弊),C选项"However, adopting a school uniform policy is not easy"(然而采用校服政策并不容易)正好引出这些后续讨论,且"however"与上文支持观点形成转折。

Opinion on High School Students’ Using AI to Write Essays
Hello, everyone! I am convinced that AI writing tools offer both opportunities and challenges. While they provide instant language support and inspire creativity, overreliance may weaken our independent thinking skills.
I strongly advocate for using AI as a learning assistant rather than a replacement. Teachers could guide us to employ AI for brainstorming and polishing essays while emphasizing original expression. Additionally, schools should establish clear guidelines to ensure academic integrity.
Let us embrace this technology wisely to enhance rather than limit our potential.
Thank you!

Amy shut the bedroom door behind her, annoyed, “Why do I always have to do the dishes? It’s so unfair!” she whispered, sinking onto her bed.
Her mother. Mrs. Thompson, always tried to explain. “Doing housework helps you grow into a responsible person. Amy, And it shows you care about our family.” But Amy never listened. To her, household chores were a tiresome burden, a waste of her precious teenage years.
One Monday evening, as Amy sat at the dinner table pushing her food around her plate, her mother coughed violently. Her face turned pale, and she excused herself, saying she wasn’t feeling well, Mrs. Thompson went to bed early, leaving a sink full of dirty dishes.
Amy thought about asking her mother to wash the dishes later, but something held her back. Remembering her mother’s pale face and weak voice. Amy was overwhelmed with a strange feeling. For the first time, she noticed how tired her mother looked lately. She realized that, besides taking care of the family, her mother also worked long hours at the office.
With a sigh. Amy stood up and walked into the kitchen. She stared at the mountain of dishes, feeling discouraged. But she rolled up her sleeves. As she washed the plates and bowls, she thought about all the times her mother had done this without a single complaint. Just as she was finishing up, she heard a soft voice behind her. “Amy?” It was her mother, looking surprised and touched, “You...you did the dishes.”
Amy turned around, feeling a bit embarrassed, “Yeah, well... you weren’t feeling well. so I thought I’d help out,” Mrs. Thompson smiled. her eyes filled with pride. “Thank you, dear, That’s very kind of you.”
That night, as Amy lay in bed, she couldn’t stop thinking. Maybe her mother was right. Maybe doing housework wasn’t just a chore-it was a way to show love and care for her family.
The next morning, Amy woke up early and headed straight to the kitchen. She quietly prepared a simple breakfast—toast and a cup of tea—and placed it on a tray. As she tiptoed into her mother’s room, she found Mrs. Thompson still resting, her face less pale but still weary. “Mom,” Amy whispered, “I made you breakfast.”Mrs. Thompson opened her eyes, surprised. “Oh, Amy… you didn’t have to.”“I wanted to,” Amy said softly. “And from now on, I’ll help more. I get it now.”Her mother’s eyes glistened as she reached out to hug Amy. “You’ve really grown up, my dear.”
From that day on, Amy’s perspective on doing household chores changed. She no longer saw them as meaningless tasks but as small acts of love. She began to notice other ways she could help—folding laundry, watering plants, even cooking simple meals. Every time she finished a task, she felt a quiet satisfaction, knowing she was lightening her mother’s load.
One evening, as they washed dishes together, Amy joked, “Maybe I’ll become a professional dishwasher someday!” Her mother laughed, and in that moment, Amy realized that chores hadn’t just taught her responsibility—they had brought them closer.
文章结构分析:
冲突建立(Paragraphs 1-2):
开篇通过Amy的抱怨和母亲的教育立场确立矛盾:“Why do I always have to do the dishes? It’s so unfair!” 与 “Doing housework helps you grow into a responsible person.”
使用对比手法突出两代人对家务的认知差异。
转折事件(Paragraphs 3-4):
母亲生病成为情节转折点:“Mrs. Thompson went to bed early, leaving a sink full of dirty dishes.”
Amy的心理描写体现成长萌芽:“For the first time, she noticed how tired her mother looked lately.”
行动与启示(Paragraphs 5-7):
Amy主动洗碗的行为标志态度转变:“She rolled up her sleeves.”
母女对话推动情感升华:“‘Thank you, dear. That’s very kind of you.’ Mrs. Thompson smiled, her eyes filled with pride.”
主题升华(Paragraph 8):
内心独白点明主题:“Maybe doing housework wasn’t just a chore—it was a way to show love.”
后续发展(续写部分):
延续主动行为:“She quietly prepared a simple breakfast...”
通过具体事例(做早餐、洗碗玩笑)体现持久改变,强化“家务=爱的表达”主题。

A. By learning from others.
B. By sticking to originality.
C. By beautifying his photos.
D. By drawing in open space.

A. A writer putting down real thoughts.
B. An educator spreading sound values.
C. An artist regenerating forgotten sites.
D. A historian looking for ignored areas.
28. What does the underlined word “frugal” mean in paragraph 1?
A. Typical. B. Reliable.
C. Reasonable. D. Economical.
29. What can we know about plastics from paragraph 2?
A. They stretch easily and quickly.
B. They fail to resist heat perfectly.
C. They are stable in chemical properties.
D. They are productive in poisonous gases
30. What does the new way of recycling plastics feature?
A. Keeping new bonds from forming.
B. Regulating acidity of the solution.
C. Stressing cleanliness and speed.
D. Extending functions of plastics.
31. What is researchers’ attitude toward the technique’s wide application?
A. Critical. B. Mindful.
C. Hopeless. D. Optimistic.
32. How does the author introduce the topic of the passage?
A. By offering statistics.
B. By defining a concept.
C. By making a contrast.
D. By quoting an expert.
33. Why are experts against using telegraphic speech?
A. It harms parent-child chats.
B. It mistakes verbs for nouns.
C. It dismisses contextual clues.
D. It excludes functional words.
34. What can we infer from the post-telegraphic stage?
A. Linguistic learning should be flexible.
B. Children’s vocabulary seems stable.
C. Generalization should not be promoted.
D. Kids can naturally grasp grammar rules
35. What does the passage suggest parents do?
A. Regard kids as adult speakers.
B. Try to use various vocabulary.
C. Value targeted language inputs.
D. Foresee kids’ expressive errors.

Opinion on High School Students’ Using AI to Write Essays
Hello, everyone!

From that day on, Amy’s perspective on doing household chores changed.
