Passage 1
(24-25学年高一上·黑龙江绥化·期中)
My first day in high school will never be forgotten. When I got to the classroom in the morning, I saw that Mr. Brown had already put our names on our tables. After walking a few steps, I saw my name on the table right in the middle of the classroom. Walking up to my table, my heart sang. “IL would be great to sit there. I could see everything easily, ” I thought to myself.
A while later, the other students entered one by one and took their own seats. And then Mr. Brown started talking. He showed us his classroom rules and tried to explain them. All of a sudden, a student called Tony started singing loudly. All the while he moved his body to the music. His deskmate Josh couldn’t understand why he was doing these things. Then he stood up and talked to Mr. Brown, “I don’t want to sit with this strange guy. Can I swap seats with someone else in this room, please? ”
Mr. Brown didn’t answer his question directly. He stopped what he was doing and turned on his computer. Then he showed us some pictures about autistic (患自闭症的) kids. He explained that autistic kids have little self-control. They seem to do things that are beyond everyone else’s understanding. However, they can do many other great things, in the field of art or music for example. Then he told us that Tony was not good at maths, but loved songs. “He can sing thousands of songs. What’s more surprising is that he can remember all the words without any mistakes. ” In the end, Mr. Brown added that although autistic kids were different, they should be loved.

A young family who has never camped in their life have sold everything they own to start a tour of Europe in a motorhome. Cheryl, 33 and Jason, 28, sold their house, quit their jobs and ditched (放弃) a normal life for a year on the road.
With their eldest daughter Flora, five, just a year away from starting school, the couple decided it was time to go on a family adventure across the world. Cheryl teaches Flora while they travel to prepare her for school next year. You can’t go into your room and be angry. It means it has to be dealt with there and then, and its taught us to be more open with each other as a family. Every day is quality family time. Dad’s car pulled into the driveway. I ran to the door. Dad smiled as if he had a secret. “It feels cold to us, but it’s warm and attractive to see a frog. Are you coming?” he asked. I agreed with excitement and then put on my raincoat.
“Hey, look at this one,” Dad shined his light on a green frog the size of his thumb. The frog jumped, its four legs sticking straight out. I found my first frog on a driveway. A bright-green one with shiny skin. I wondered what it would feel like. I could see the frog breathing.
I could imagine a car running over it. I said, “Dad, can you move this one?” “You do it,” Dad said. I looked at the frog. I didn’t want to touch it. But I didn’t want it to get squashed (压扁的). I reached down. It jumped through my fingers. I tried again. Cupping one hand around the frog, I picked it up with the other hand. Its skin felt cold and soft. The frog moved. I walked to the grass and held out my hand. The frog climbed up my wrist. I laughed. Then I gently placed the frog onto the grass.
We walked a couple of blocks. We found lots of frogs-brown ones, green ones and spotted ones. I got better at finding them. If they were on the road, we moved them when traffic was clear. I actually started to like picking them up.
I was ready to go home. Then I saw something moving near a stone wall. Something bigger than a frog. Dad and I shined our lights and crouched. “Is it a lizard (蜥蜴)?” I asked. “No, it’s a salamander,” Dad said. “Hey, I just realized something,” I said. “The animals out tonight—frogs and salamanders—are amphibians (两栖动物). Passage 1
(24-25高一上·黑龙江龙东联盟·期中)
Fifteen years ago, I loved going to the gym, but family life and work commitments meant I was finding it hard to get there. With the help of my dad and uncle, I built my own gym in the garden. It’s basically a beautiful room with insulation (隔热) and electric (供电) and a small heater for the winter. We built a corner desk too, which was intended for my doing the paperwork for my small business. However, the desk served its real purpose when I started my writing journey two years ago.
I’ve always had stories going through my mind. I could be out jogging and I’d lose myself in thoughts in my head like movie scenes. Once seen, they stay in there. I have trouble keeping other kinds of information, but when it comes to story ideas, they can be memorized by me. I have many fresh ideas in my head waiting to be written. When I was younger, I wasn’t brave enough to write. I didn’t do well in school and I’ve spent most of my life in physical work, so the idea of becoming a writer felt laughable.
I now know there isn’t a writer type; writers come in all forms. I still use the gym for its real purpose, but some of the equipment has been replaced by books and a small bed for the time when I want to relax and read. I like to have my desk looking colorful — some might say messy. My love for sport is clear to see, with photos around of my favorite boxers and the football team I follow. On the other hand, having my own writing room is important. Without it, I wouldn’t be where I am now on my writing journey. It’s far from charming, but it is mine. It’s my happy place.
1.Who helped the author build the gym?
A.His coach and cousin. B.His father and uncle.
C.His friend and neighbour. D.His workmate and brother.
2.What can we learn about the author from paragraph 2?
A.He got on well with his study at school.
B.He wrote a number of stories as a child.
C.He has a lot in his head waiting to be written.

3.What sports team is the author a fan of?
A.A baseball team. B.A volleyball team.
C.A basketball team. D.A football team.
4.What is the author’s gym mainly used for now?
A.Writing and fitness. B.Teaching and office work.
C.Storing clothes and sleeping. D.Relaxation and entertainment.

Passage 1
(24-25高一上·辽宁丹东·期中)
As a small boy, Jim Corbett was amazed by wildlife. He taught himself how to seek animals and birds by the sounds they made. Later, Jim became a tracker and hunter. The authorities asked him to track and shoot man-eating tigers to protect people.
Between 1907 and 1938, Jim shot and killed nineteen tigers and fourteen leopards (豹). He did this on foot, sometimes accompanied by his dogs, and he took many risks to save people’s lives. The first tiger he shot was a Champawat Tiger, a tiger that killed more than 436 people. Jim was regarded as a hero by the locals.
Jim wondered why the tigers and leopards were killing people. When he examined many cats that he had shot, eventually he made an important discovery that shocked him. They all had injuries. Some had gunshot wounds from poachers (偷猎者). Poaching was common because people could sell tiger skins for decoration and tiger bones for medicine. One tiger had a gunshot wound in its mouth, and its teeth were damaged. Other tigers had injuries and then became sick. The reason why they were eating people was that they couldn’t hunt other creatures to feed on.
After his discoveries, Jim became interested in conservation. He concentrated on his new mission: saving tigers. He gave lectures and inspired people to respect wildlife - especially the big cats, which he loved and respected. Two years after he died in 1955, the oldest national park in India got a new name: Corbett National Park. It’s a shelter for tigers, leopards, and other endangered animals. There’s even a species of tiger named after Jim called Corbett’s Tiger, of which there may only be 350 worldwide.

A.By investigating tigers’ teeth. B.By helping with tigers’ treatment.
C.By examining tigers with specific facilities. D.By looking at the tigers’ dead bodies carefully.

A.He protected tigers’ habitat.
B.He built new shelters for animals.
C.He raised people’s awareness of wildlife protection.

Passage 2
(24-25高一上·吉林长春·期中)
I have had a lifelong passion for sewing (缝, 做针线活). When I was 7, my mother showed me how to stitch with a needle and thread, and it was my favorite pastime (休闲活动) when it was too cold and snowy to play outside. As a teenager, I began to design and sew my own outfits. I cut out paper patterns to construct dresses and skirts, and I’d sit at the old sewing machine for hours.
In my late 20s, my focus shifted towards giving new life to used clothes. I began to buy used clothes to upcycle (升级改造) and refashion. My favorite places to buy used clothes are thrift shops (旧货店). This pursuit wasn’t just about fashion; it was about storytelling through clothing.
About 10 years ago, when I was ripping out the silk lining (内衬) from a beautiful long blue evening dress, I stopped. There was a hidden pocket in the front that I failed to notice as I merrily ripped at the scams (接缝). I pulled out an old photo of a young woman wearing the very same blue evening dress. A long silver chain necklace hung gracefully down the front of the dress, and she was holding a black purse. She had a soft smile, and she looked to be in her early 20s. This moment was an awakening for me; it connected me to the unknown histories of the clothes I worked with.
Somebody else wore this dress many years ago. Who was she? Did she wear it to the theater? To a fancy dinner party? And I was now tearing it apart. I felt guilty. I mentioned my concerns and guilt to my daughter. She said, “Mom, you should be proud of your upcycling and your sewing creations. You are keeping clothes out of the landfill (垃圾填埋场), and you’re creating new fashions. Consider it a bonus (意外收获) if you find objects in the pockets. The clothes are talking to you!” Her words helped me see the value in my hobby, not just as a creative means of expressing but as a means of preserving stories and preventing waste.
I decided to pay respect to this upcycling discovery and the many others I’ve found over the years by displaying them on a bulletin board in my sewing room. These discoveries have made me enjoy refashioning and upcycling clothes even more. And this evolution in my sewing practice has not only enhanced my appreciation for the art of upcycling but has also deepened my connection to the past, making each stitch a bridge between generations.

Passage 1
(24-25高一上·内蒙古呼和浩特·期中)
I felt anxious when going into my room from school. Every day, my room was something different. The hours away at school were long enough to cause a terrible change to my peaceful harbor. Today was no exception.
As I entered the house, Mom greeted me with a smile. It seemed like nothing was wrong. But I was still doubtful about it. Yesterday, around the mouth of my favorite figurine (小雕像) was a chocolate cookie. Obviously, Callie had enjoyed the cookie so much that she wanted to share it with my angel.
I looked around for Callie, who had just turned three. I didn’t see her, but I heard the TV blaring (发出声音) in the other room. As I examined the family room, I noticed it was pretty messy. There were toys all over the floor, but none of them seemed to be mine. Maybe she hadn't entered today. I was so hopeful that I breathed a sigh of relief.
I pushed my room door open and saw damage! There were a few headless dolls, some broken blocks, and a few juice-stained stuffed animals. “She did it again!” I screamed in anger. My mother ran up to me, embarrassed. She promised to put a Callie-proof lock on my door tonight. I felt better, because I knew that soon my room would truly belong to me. However, I was still angry with my little sister so I went into the family room to tell her how she had made life unpleasant for me. “Callie... ” I started. “Hooray!” she shouted.

I was up all night thinking about how the day would go. What if my friends aren’t in any of my classes? What if I get made fun of? What will people think of when they first see me?
The next morning, as I started walking towards the gate of the school I had butterflies in my stomach. There were a lot of students. As I looked around, I started to notice the familiar (熟悉的) faces of my friends who went to primary school with me. For some reason, I would get very nervous when someone new got close to me.
The one thing I was most nervous about was walking in late to one of my classes. Guess what? That was exactly what happened. Going to the first period was simple because luckily, other students were helping us find our classes. Not to mention, I ended up having that class with a couple of friends.
As I made my way down the halls to get to my second-period class, we had about five minutes to get to our classes. Finally, I ended up getting lost and coming to class ten minutes after the bell had rung, which resulted in the class looking at me when I walked in. I felt self-conscious. Everyone had already taken their seats so I rushed to sit down as well. However, I had to sit with someone new. It took me a while to begin talking to him but once I did, things became easier because I was able to ask for help when needed.

Passage 2

For most people, having something important stolen feels like a disaster. Robbie Pruitt admitted when his mountain bike was stolen last September, he got mad. But soon his emotions took a turn. After letting go of his anger, he found himself on a road to sympathy (同情) instead.
As a biker, Pruitt’s first priority was to buy one again, but when he went bike shopping, he found the pickings slim. The shortage in supply got him thinking: What if the person who’d taken his bike had done so because he truly needed bikes to get to work?
With that thought in mind, Pruitt came up with a plan and posted it to a local Facebook group. He offered to fix bikes free of charge for anyone who needed it. Pruitt also put out a call for bikes people don’t use, which he would repair—again for free—and then donate to people who could truly use them but didn’t have the budget to buy a bike.
The day the post went live, Pruitt was excited about a list of 30 used bicycles. And this was followed by more than 500 posts from people who either had bikes to donate or that needed fixing soon after. By the end of the month, Pruitt had repaired more than 140 bikes for donation.
Pruitt tries to give his donations to struggling families. Beyond simply satisfying a material need, he has provided an opportunity for kids in his neighborhood to learn how to fix their own bikes.
In addition to practical skills, Pruitt’s lessons teach teamwork, encourage self-esteem, and develop feelings of community. “Pruitt is certainly providing a service, but it’s not the bikes. It’s the relationships in the community. It’s the impact he made on people. All the neighborhood kids are spending a lot more time doing something that’s in their power,” Pruitt’s next-door neighbor Danny told The Washington Post.

3.What sports team is the author a fan of?
A.A baseball team. B.A volleyball team.

1.Why did Jim Corbett kill tigers?
A.Because he was the best hunter then. B.Because tigers hurt and killed people.
C.Because authorities needed protection. D.Because he could seek birds by sound.

A.By investigating tigers’ teeth. B.By helping with tigers’ treatment.
C.By examining tigers with specific facilities. D.By looking at the tigers’ dead bodies carefully.
3.What did Jim do to save tigers?
A.He protected tigers’ habitat.
B.He built new shelters for animals.
C.He raised people’s awareness of wildlife protection.
D.He gave a number of lectures on tigers’ favorite food.
4.Why was a species of tiger named Corbett’s Tiger?

She leaped off the sofa and hugged my knees with such happiness that I could only look down at her and smile. After all, she was only three and learning about the world in her own way. And she always chose to explore and destroy my room because she loved me, her big sister.

5.How did Pruitt feel after he went to the bikeshop?
A.He was angry at the theft. B.He became eager for a new bike.
C.He would rather find his old bike. D.He tried to put himself in the thief’s shoes.

C.To raise some money for charity. D.To advertise his bike repair shop.
7.Which of the following best describes Robbie Pruitt?

C.Outgoing and brave. D.Responsible and humorous.
8.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?

B.A Bike Thief: A Trouble Maker.
C.A Kind Act: Inspiration From A Stolen Bike.
D.Bike Shopping: An Unexpected Adventure.
【答案】5.D 6.B 7.A 8.C

6.推理判断题。根据文章第三段“Pruitt also put out a call for bikes people don’t use, which he would repair—again for free—and then donate to people who could truly use them but didn’t have the budget to buy a bike.(Pruitt还呼吁人们捐赠不再使用的自行车,他会免费修理这些自行车,然后捐赠给那些真正需要但预算不足购买自行车的人。)”可知,Pruitt发出呼吁是为了收集不再使用的旧自行车,以便进行修理和捐赠。故选B。
