I don’t put myself forward for any of them but end up being chosen to play a part. It turns out that I’m good at it. Zoe praises my natural gift for acting, and I feel excited. But pride comes before a fall, and when we move on to some physical exercises, I’m forced to admit I could do better. We do an exercise based on trust, where in turn, we close our eyes and fall backwards for the others to catch us. I just can’t do it. A couple of others are experiencing the same difficulties.
I wonder whether my acting career has come to an end before it’s even got going. I guess Zoe must be disappointed with me. But to my surprise, when the lesson ends, she asks me to try out for the acting-school play. If I do well, I’ll start rehearsals for my first stage role. She clearly believes I’ve got what it takes, even if a school play isn’t exactly the heights of Hollywood.

The fashion industry is responsible for up to ten percent of the world’s carbon emissions (排放). But what if you could get clothes more sustainably and spend less money?
Enter rental fashion (服装租赁). Companies charge you a small part of the store price to borrow a piece of clothing. They’ll take care of the cleaning once you send it back. These companies advertise sustainability as one of the best reasons to rent: By sharing clothes among more people, they satisfy shoppers’ desire for new looks while avoiding the emissions that new clothes would produce.
The only thing is, of course, there are trade-offs. Shipping you those clothes creates carbon emissions, and so does washing them after you’re done with them.
Then how can you make sure that the environment gets the most benefit out of your money?
First of all, rent clothes you don’t wear frequently. Some companies rent out high-end clothes, while others offer more everyday options. The best clothes to rent are fancy clothes for special occasions. And higher-quality pieces are more likely to last through multiple (多次的) wears. If a rented piece of clothes gets worn more times than it would if one person owned it, that can definitely make a difference. Meanwhile, casual clothes such as jeans already get frequent wears and are better to own than rent.
You could also rent from a nearby location and pick up your clothes by yourself. If you were to use an environmentally friendly method, such as public transport or biking, that would even be better.
Of course, buying less can be one of the simplest and most cost-effective ways to live more sustainably. By buying fewer new clothes, you can help cut down the need for clothing production, which is responsible for most of emissions in the fashion industry.
24.According to the first two paragraphs, the rise of rental fashion is meant to ______ .
A.change shopping habits B.reduce environmental harm
C.cut clothing production D.follow fashion trends easily
25.Which can best explain the underlined “trade-offs”?
A.Options. B.Costs. C.Preferences. D.Differences.

A.Renting expensive clothes.
B.Renting clothes delivered easily.
C.Renting frequently-worn clothes.
D.Renting clothes with self-pick-up nearby.

A.To encourage buying less.
B.To introduce changes in fashion.
C.To explain rental fashion and give advice.
D.To warn of the damage done by fashion industry.

While for many a chef, serving up the fanciest (最优质的) and most delicious meals is the final aim, Rudolf Brand has an extra aim: fighting food waste. He believes that with his dishes, he can have a big influence on people’s way of thinking about food and food waste.
With 22 years of experience, including Michelin-starred restaurants in London and Amsterdam, he has seen a lot of food wasted in his career. So what is the best way to stop this? For him, it really comes down to one important thing: “Rather than think about what you want to cook, look at the left things, what’s available (可利用的) , and then make a menu. This is what every chef should do.”
He’s clear on his solution. “Lose that fanciness, and look at the quality of the product and the flavor (风味) ,” Rudolf explains. “There are too many chefs who are trying to make their dish too fancy. They want to have only the biggest sea fish. Or they make a dish with only the heart of the cabbage, only using the best leaves, and then they throw away the rest.” He shakes his head at the idea of such waste.
He knows that one of his suppliers—a local farm—is left with a growing food mountain when top Michelin-starred chefs only buy the prized cuts of meat instead of ordering the whole leg. In just three or four weeks, the farm is left with 1,000 legs of lamb in the freezer. “And that’s just one supplier,” he says.
While other chefs will only accept the best ingredients (原料) from their suppliers, if something is smaller or damaged or has a few black bits, Rudolf is still going to use it. “Just because I’ll accept produce of a slightly lower quality doesn’t mean I’m going to serve food of a less quality. It’s my job to turn that into good quality food on the plate,” he says. As a chef, he thinks he has a duty not only to cook delicious food, but also to reduce food waste.
28.What is Rudolf’s extra goal with his dishes?
A.To create the fanciest meals ever. B.To educate the public on food waste.
C.To encourage people to cook by themselves. D.To start a career in Michelin-starred restaurants.
29.What does Rudolf say about many chefs?
A.They care too much about flavor. B.They are too choosy about ingredients.
C.They satisfy customers’ needs to the full. D.They would like to try out new cooking methods.
30.What problem do food suppliers face according to Rudolf?
A.They overproduce greatly. B.They struggle to win orders.
C.They fail to store their products properly. D.They have many unwanted left ingredients.
31.Which of the following best describes Rudolf?
A.Influential. B.Energetic. C.Poor. D.Responsible.
D
There are two kinds of people: those who like to pack up leftovers as soon as dinner is over, and. those who let leftovers sit out for a few hours so they can cool down.
However, both leaving leftovers out for a long period of time and adding hot items to the fridge can cause problems.
Whether you should immediately put food in the fridge or let it sit out to cool depends on its temperature. Dangerous bacterial (细菌的) growth happens between 41 and 135 degrees F (华氏度). Potentially harmful bacteria grows most rapidly at these temperatures.
Placing lots of hot food in the fridge can raise the temperature of the fridge into this danger zone. Fridge temperatures should always be set below 40 degrees F. This may help the food get out of the danger zone as fast as possible.
However, there’s no harm in putting hot food directly into the fridge if you need to. If you are a forgetful person, or if you won’t be around to store the food after it has cooled enough, go mead and put it in the fridge. Your fridge can handle the heat and get the food cooled quickly.
Food should never stay out at room temperature for more than two hours. Leftovers can become breeding grounds (滋生地) for dangerous bacteria if they’re left out too long and can make people sick.
“It is OK to leave the food cooling outside before you hit the two-hour mark, ” says Serena Poon, nutritionist of Le Cordon Bleu’s Grand Diploma training program. “In fact, the sooner you can get your leftovers in the fridge, the better. ”
32.Which temperature most contributes to the growth of harmful bacteria?
A.Below 40 degrees F. B.Between 39~40 degrees F.
C.Between 41~135 degrees F. D.Above 135 degrees F.
33.What is the author’s attitude towards putting hot food directly into the fridge?
A.Unclear. B.Neutral. C.Worried D.Unconcerned.
34.What does Serena Poon suggest doing about the leftovers?
A.Dividing them into small parts.
B.Storing them in the fridge right away.
C.Waiting until they cool down completely outside.
D.Leaving them sitting at room temperature for two hours.
35.What is the best title for the text?
A.When to Pack up Leftovers. B.How to Prevent Bacterial Growth
C.To Cool Food Outside or in the Fridge D.Good Idea to Store Food in the Fridge

I’m standing in the middle of a room surrounded (围绕) by other kids, and we’re shouting as loudly as we can to each other. It feels strange, and not what I’ve been expecting from my first ever acting class. Whatever the reason for all this is, I’m not sure I get it. It becomes even stranger when we have to do some unusual exercises, including speaking quietly, then pretending (假装) to be opera singers. I feel a bit uncomfortable. Luckily, the other first‑timers seem to be feeling the same, and that makes me relax: I even begin to find the whole thing interesting.
The idea is, it turns out, to help us get over our shyness. Soon, our instructor Zoe gets us walking round the room while she calls out characters for us to pretend to be: an impatient shopkeeper, a tired climber, a caring nurse. I’ve no first-hand experience of any of them, but it isn’t hard to put myself in their shoes. As I start to warm to the whole thing, I find my movements getting bigger, my facial expressions exaggerated (夸张的). I’m having fun! It’s the kind of acting everyone does at home when no one’s watching. Yet, we still haven’t said any actual lines.
Zoe finally ends the exercise and asks us to sit down. Then she goes into an explanation of what acting is: it’s about putting yourself in a position where people are listening to every word you say and watching everything you do — and how. She tells us we have to think about things that have happened in our lives and notice how we feel about them, even if it brings up feelings we might prefer not to revisit. But this can only make you stronger as an actor, she says.
It all makes sense, but can any of us in this room really do it? It’s time to find out as Zoe hands us each a script (剧本). She asks for volunteers to take on each role.

26.Which would be the greenest clothing habit according to the text?

Offer suggestion in different ways to lead your child to avoid making the same mistakes again. You can choose to share your personal examples if you had the same problem before. 39 He may not want to do exactly the same thing, but it will get him to start in the right direction.
40 Having your child try to work through the problem and know how to deal with it only by himself will help develop his reasoning skills, which is good for his self - development. In this way, he will know what he should do if a similar situation appears in the future.
A.Tell your child how you deal with the problem.

根据“Kanas Lake, Xinjiang”部分关键句“Surrounded by snow-capped mountains and thick forest, the lake takes on different colors in different seasons.”(湖被白雪皑皑的群山和茂密的森林所环绕,在不同的季节呈现出不同的颜色。)可知,新疆喀纳斯湖被白雪皑皑的群山所环绕;根据“Yamdrok Lake, Xizang”部分关键句“Surrounded by beautiful snow-capped mountains, this lake is fed by many small streams.”(这个湖被美丽的白雪皑皑的群山环绕,由许多小溪组成。)

26.Which would be the greenest clothing habit according to the text?
A.Renting expensive clothes.
B.Renting clothes delivered easily.
C.Renting frequently-worn clothes.
D.Renting clothes with self-pick-up nearby.
27.What is the purpose of the text?
A.To encourage buying less.
B.To introduce changes in fashion.
C.To explain rental fashion and give advice.
D.To warn of the damage done by fashion industry.
根据第一段“The fashion industry is responsible for up to ten percent of the world’s carbon emissions (排放). But what if you could get clothes more sustainably and spend less money?(时尚产业的碳排放量占世界总排放量的10%。但是,如果你能更可持续地买到衣服,花更少的钱呢?)”和第二段中“These companies advertise sustainability as one of the best reasons to rent: By sharing clothes among more people, they satisfy shoppers’ desire for new looks while avoiding the emissions that new clothes would produce.(这些公司将可持续性宣传为租赁的最佳理由之一:通过与更多人共享衣服,它们满足了购物者对新造型的渴望,同时避免了新衣服产生的排放)”可知,租赁服饰的兴起是为了减少对环境的影响,故选B。
根据划线词下文“Shipping you those clothes creates carbon emissions, and so does washing them after you’re done with them.(把这些衣服寄给你会产生碳排放,穿完后洗它们也会产生碳排放)”可知,邮寄衣服寄会产生碳排放,洗它们也会产生碳排放,这是关于租赁衣服的环境代价,trade-offs意为“成本,代价”,故选B。
根据倒数第二段“You could also rent from a nearby location and pick up your clothes by yourself. If you were to use an environmentally friendly method, such as public transport or biking, that would even be better.(你也可以在附近租衣服,然后自己去取衣服。如果你使用一种环保的方式,比如公共交通或骑自行车,那就更好了)”可知,从附近租衣服且自己去取是最环保的方式,故选D。
27.推理判断题。根据全文内容,结合第二段中“Enter rental fashion (服装租赁). Companies charge you a small part of the store price to borrow a piece of clothing. They’ll take care of the cleaning once you send it back.(进入服装租赁。借一件衣服,公司会向你收取商店价格的一小部分。你送回去后,他们会负责清洁的)”和第四段“Then how can you make sure that the environment gets the most benefit out of your money?(那么你怎样才能确保环境从你的钱中得到最大的好处呢?)”

根据第一段“While for many a chef, serving up the fanciest (最优质的) and most delicious meals is the final aim, Rudolf Brand has an extra aim: fighting food waste. He believes that with his dishes, he can have a big influence on people’s way of thinking about food and food waste.(虽然对于许多厨师来说,提供最优质、最美味的饭菜是最终目标,但Rudolf Brand还有一个额外的目标:与食物浪费作斗争。他相信,通过他的菜肴,他可以对人们对食物和食物浪费的看法产生很大的影响。)”可知,Rudolf Brand做食物的额外目标是与食物浪费作斗争,他想通过自己做的食物来影响人们对食物和食物浪费的看法,由此可知,他想要教育公众关于食物浪费的问题。故选B。
29.推理判断题。根据第三段中的“There are too many chefs who are trying to make their dish too fancy. They want to have only the biggest sea fish. Or they make a dish with only the heart of the cabbage, only using the best leaves, and then they throw away the rest.(有太多的厨师试图让他们的菜太花哨。他们只想吃最大的海鱼。或者他们只用卷心菜的心,只用最好的叶子做一道菜,然后把剩下的扔掉。)”可推测出,许多厨师对食材太过挑剔。故选B。
30.推理判断题。根据第四段中的“He knows that one of his suppliers—a local farm—is left with a growing food mountain when top Michelin-starred chefs only buy the prized cuts of meat instead of ordering the whole leg. In just three or four weeks, the farm is left with 1,000 legs of lamb in the freezer.(他知道,当米其林星级厨师只购买珍贵的肉块而不是订购整条腿时,他的供应商之一——一家当地农场——留下了越来越多的食物山。在短短三到四周的时间里,农场的冰箱里就剩下了1000条羊腿。)”可知,由于米其林星级厨师只购买珍贵的肉块而不是整条羊腿,这导致供应商的农场里剩下了许多羊腿,由此可推测,食物供应商面临的问题是他们剩下了许多不被需要的食材。故选D。
31.推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“Just because I’ll accept produce of a slightly lower quality doesn’t mean I’m going to serve food of a less quality. It’s my job to turn that into good quality food on the plate(仅仅因为我会接受质量稍低的农产品,并不意味着我会提供质量较低的食物。我的工作就是把它变成盘子里的优质食物)”和“As a chef, he thinks he has a duty not only to cook delicious food, but also to reduce food waste.(作为一名厨师,他认为自己不仅有责任做美味的食物,还有责任减少食物浪费。)”

根据第三段中“Dangerous bacterial (细菌) growth happens between 41 and 135 degrees F. Potentially harmful bacteria grows most rapidly at these temperatures. (危险的细菌在华氏41度到135度之间生长,潜在的有害细菌在这个温度下生长得最快。)”可知,在41~135华氏度之间温度最容易滋生有害细菌。故选C。
33.推理判断题。根据第二段“However, both leaving leftovers out for a long period of time and adding hot items to the fridge can cause problems. (然而,把剩菜长时间放在外面和把热的东西放进冰箱都会引起问题。)”和第五段中“However, there’s no harm in putting hot food directly into the fridge if you need to. (然而,如果你需要的话,把热的食物直接放进冰箱也没什么坏处。)”可推断,作者对直接把热食放入冰箱冷却的做法的态度是中立的。故选B。
34.细节理解题。根据最后一段““It is OK to leave the food cooling outside before you hit the two-hour mark,” says Serena Poon, nutritionist of Le Cordon Bleu’s Grand Diploma training program. “In fact, the sooner you can get your leftovers in the fridge, the better.” (蓝带厨艺学院高级文凭培训项目的营养学家瑟琳娜·潘说:“在两小时之前把食物放在外面冷却是可以的。”“事实上,越早把剩菜放进冰箱越好。”)”可知,潘瑟琳建议尽快将剩菜放在冰箱冷却。故选B。
35.主旨大意题。根据文章大意以及第一段“There are two kinds of people: those who like to pack up leftovers as soon as dinner is over, and those who let leftovers sit out for a few hours so they can cool down. (有两种人:一种人喜欢一吃完饭就把剩菜打包,另一种人喜欢把剩菜放在外面放几个小时,让它们冷却下来。)”可知,本文主要讨论了热食直接放入冰箱冷却保存还是先放在外面冷却后再放入冰箱保存的问题。因此C选项“把食物放在外面或冰箱里冷却”为最佳标题。故选C。

第二节(满分25分)
67.阅读下面材料:根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
I don’t put myself forward for any of them but end up being chosen to play a part.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I wonder whether my acting career has come to an end before it’s even got going.
