Show blurred pictures of school rooms (library, computer room, etc.) on PPT.

Students guess, and the teacher reveals the clear picture, teaches the new word, and asks students to read it 3 times. Stick the corresponding word card on the blackboard.

Design Intent

The daily talk connects the lesson to students’ real life, reducing their anxiety about English learning.

The “Guess the Room” game uses visual stimulation to arouse students’ interest. It naturally introduces new words, laying a foundation for the following teaching without being boring.

Step 2: Pre-reading (Preparation for 2a-2b) (8 minutes)

Learn Prepositions of Place

Show a picture of a desk, a book, and a pen on PPT.

Teacher: “Look! Where is the pen? It’s next to the book.” (Demonstrate the meaning of “next to” with gestures.)

Use the same method to teach “between...and..., in front of, behind”. Write the prepositions on the blackboard and draw simple sketches (e.g., two circles with a triangle between them for “between A and B”).

Pair Work: Give each pair two small toys (e.g., a bear and a car). Students take turns to place the toys and ask: “Where is the bear?” The partner answers with the new prepositions.

2a Activity: Match Words with Pictures

Show the 2a pictures on PPT (different school rooms).

Teacher: “Now, let’s match the words in the box with the pictures. Please work alone. You have 2 minutes.”

After students finish, check answers together. Call 3-4 students to say: “Picture 1 is a...”.

Design Intent

Prepositions of place are the core of describing locations, so teaching them with real objects and sketches helps students understand their meanings intuitively.

Pair work provides students with opportunities to practice immediately, consolidating the use of prepositions.

The 2a activity reviews new words and prepares students for understanding the 2b passage’s location descriptions.

Step 3: While-reading (15 minutes)

Skimming: Get the Main Idea

Show the 2b passage title “My School” and the first sentence on PPT.

Teacher: “Now we’ll read a passage about a student’s school. Please read it quickly (2 minutes) and answer: What is the passage about?”

After reading, guide students to conclude: “It’s about the rooms in the student’s school and their locations.”

Scanning: Find Specific Information

Teacher: “Read the passage again carefully. This time, use a pen to underline the rooms mentioned and circle the prepositions of place. Then fill in the table on your worksheet.”
