Teaching aims:

By the end of the class, students will be able to:

1. build the knowledge system of the attributive clause by drawing a mind-map.

2. master the usage of relative pronouns(who,whom,whose,which,that,as) and relative adverbs(where,when,why) by the writing practice activity.

3. know the ways of cultural heritage protection and enhance the awareness of cultural heritage in the context.

 

 

Teaching procedures:

Stage1: Lead-in

Step1: T gets Ss to watch a video about the Yueyang Tower and gets Ss to know the topic of today’s lesson(Review of attributive clauses) by asking a question(Have you notice the grammar structure of the transcript?)

Step2: T asks Ss to fill in the blanks with the relative words

The Yueyang Tower,  ______ is situated in Hunan Province, stands as one of the Three Great Towers of Southern China. It was originally built during the Tang Dynasty, _______marked the golden age of classical Chinese architecture. The tower overlooks Dongting Lake, ______ vast waters have inspired countless poets and scholars throughout history.

      What makes it truly remarkable is the renowned essay "Record of Yueyang Tower," _______ was written by the famous Song statesman Fan Zhongyan. The phrase "Be the first to bear hardship, the last to enjoy comfort," which he penned in this essay, has become a moral ideal for generations of Chinese people. Visitors  ______ climb the tower can admire the breathtaking views that change with the seasons and weather.

      It is not only a historical treasure _______reflects ancient Chinese wisdom but also a cultural symbol that continues to inspire people today.

Step3: T guides Ss to analyze the sentences by asking questions (What is the difference between the first four sentences and the last two sentences?/ Can “which” be replaced by “that”?)and gets Ss to have a conclusion.(The difference between Non-restrictive relative clause and restrictive relative clauses)

Stage2: Mind-map drawing

 Step1: T asks Ss to take out their own mind-map and gets Ss to show their mind-map in class.

 Step2: T shows her own mind-map in class and explain it in class to help Ss form the knowledge

system of the attributive clauses.

 

 

Stage3: Practice

Step1: T invites Ss to travel with her in Yueyang city by showing pictures and gets Ss to fill in the blanks with relative words.
