主语是句子中 “动作的发出者” 或 “被描述的对象”,通常由名词(如 student, book)、代词(如 he, they)、动名词(如 reading, playing)、不定式(如 to learn, to help)等充当。
In the morning, On the desk, With my friend)
Usually, Often, Suddenly)
Because, If, When)
Oh, Wow, Hey)
例如:“In the morning, my best friend Lily who sits next to me shares her breakfast with me.” 句首的 “In the morning” 是介词短语(表时间),属于修饰成分,应先排除;接下来的 “my best friend Lily” 中,“my best friend” 是定语(修饰 Lily),核心名词 “Lily” 才是主语。
在九年级英语中,谓语多为简单动词(如 share, read, run)或 “情态动词 + 动词原形”(如 can speak, will do)、“be 动词 + 其他”(如 is happy, are busy)。
若句子为 “主谓宾(SVO)” 结构,宾语是 “动作的承受者”,通常位于谓语之后,由名词、代词等充当(如上述句子中的 “her breakfast”);
若句子为 “主系表(SLP)” 结构,表语是 “描述主语性质、状态、身份的部分”,通常位于 be 动词(am, is, are, was, were)、感官动词(look, sound, taste)、连系动词(become, get, turn)之后,由形容词、名词、介词短语等充当(如 “He is a student.” 中的 “a student”,“The cake tastes delicious.”
例如上述句子的主干即为 “Lily shares her breakfast”,再结合 “with me”(表示动作的对象,属于宾语补足语,可纳入主干补充信息),最终主干完整表述为 “Lily shares her breakfast with me”。
多以介词短语(如 In the morning, On Sunday, At 8 o'clock)或副词(如 Yesterday, Today, Now)形式出现,通常位于句首或句末。
After school, Tom and his classmates play basketball on the playground.”
主干:Tom and his classmates play basketball
时间状语:After school(句首)
多以形容词(如 a beautiful girl, a new book)、介词短语(如 the boy in red, the book on the desk)、从句(如 the girl who is singing)形式出现,通常位于被修饰的名词之前或之后。
The tall boy who wears glasses is my deskmate.”
主干:The boy is my deskmate
定语:tall(形容词,修饰 boy,位于名词前);who wears glasses(从句,修饰 boy,位于名词后)
多以介词短语(如 by bike, in the classroom)或副词(如 quickly, here)形式出现,通常位于句末。
My mother goes to work by bus every day.”
主干:My mother goes to work
方式状语:by bus;时间状语:every day
Every weekend, my little sister who loves drawing spends two hours in the art club.”
排除修饰成分:Every weekend(时间状语)、my little(定语,修饰 sister)、who loves drawing(定语从句,修饰 sister)、in the art club(地点状语)
定位主干:my sister spends two hours
Last night, the old man who lives next door told us an interesting story about his childhood.”
排除修饰成分:Last night(时间状语)、the old(定语,修饰 man)、who lives next door(定语从句,修饰 man)、interesting(定语,修饰 story)、about his childhood(定语,修饰 story)
定位主干:the man told us a story
In spring, the flowers in the park which are planted by gardeners bloom beautifully.”
排除修饰成分:In spring(时间状语)、in the park(定语,修饰 flowers)、which are planted by gardeners(定语从句,修饰 flowers)、beautifully(方式状语,修饰 bloom)
定位主干:the flowers bloom
After finishing his homework, Mike usually watches a documentary about nature on TV.”
排除修饰成分:After finishing his homework(时间状语)、usually(频率状语)、a documentary about nature(定语,修饰 documentary)、on TV(地点状语)
Mike watches a documentary
This afternoon, our English teacher who is from America will teach us a new song in class.”
排除修饰成分:This afternoon(时间状语)、our English(定语,修饰 teacher)、who is from America(定语从句,修饰 teacher)、a new(定语,修饰 song)、in class(地点状语)
定位主干:our teacher will teach us a song
第一步:识别连接词 “that/which”
The book that my teacher recommended is very interesting.”
The book + that
确定定语从句范围:that my teacher recommended(从 that 开始,到主句的第二个谓语动词前结束 —— 主句的谓语是 “is”,因此定语从句到 “recommended” 结束)
在上述例句中,“that” 之前的名词是 “The book”,因此定语从句 “that my teacher recommended” 修饰的对象是 “the book”。
定语从句:that my teacher recommended → 老师推荐的(翻译成 “……
主句剩余部分:is very interesting → 很有趣
The pen which my father bought for me last week writes very smoothly.”
主句谓语:writes(第二个谓语动词)
定语从句谓语:bought(第一个谓语动词)
因此定语从句范围:which my father bought for me last week(从 which 开始,到 writes 前结束)
拆解:which my father bought for me last week → 我爸爸上周给我买的(定语);The pen → 钢笔;writes very smoothly → 写起来很流畅;完整句意:“我爸爸上周给我买的那支钢笔写起来很流畅。”
The novel which I read last month tells a story about friendship.”
连接词与从句范围:which I read last month(连接词 which,从句到 tells 前结束)
修饰对象:The novel(小说)

中文转换:that my mother gave me on my birthday → 妈妈在我生日时给我的;The schoolbag → 书包 → 妈妈在我生日时给我的书包
The park which we visited last weekend has a big lake in it.”
连接词与从句范围:which we visited last weekend(连接词 which,从句到 has 前结束)
修饰对象:The park(公园)
中文转换:which we visited last weekend → 我们上周末去的;The park → 公园 → 我们上周末去的那个公园
The dog that lives in the next house often plays with my pet cat.”
连接词与从句范围:that lives in the next house(连接词 that,从句到 often plays 前结束)
修饰对象:The dog(狗)
中文转换:that lives in the next house → 住在隔壁房子里的;The dog → 狗 → 住在隔壁房子里的那只狗
The cake which my grandma made for me tastes very sweet.”
连接词与从句范围:which my grandma made for me(连接词 which,从句到 tastes 前结束)
修饰对象:The cake(蛋糕)
中文转换:which my grandma made for me → 奶奶给我做的;The cake → 蛋糕 → 奶奶给我做的那块蛋糕
The scissors that my father uses to cut paper are on the table.”
连接词与从句范围:that my father uses to cut paper(连接词 that,从句到 are 前结束)
修饰对象:The scissors(剪刀)
中文转换:that my father uses to cut paper → 爸爸用来剪纸的;The scissors → 剪刀 → 爸爸用来剪纸的那把剪刀
第一步:识别连接词 “because/so”
“because” 引导的是 “原因从句”,通常位于主句之前或之后,回答 “为什么” 的问题;
Because I was late, so my teacher was angry.(×)
1:Because I was late, my teacher was angry.(√,because 引导原因从句)
2:I was late, so my teacher was angry.(√,so 引导结果从句)
若连接词是 “because”,则 “because 后面的内容是原因,主句内容是结果”;
例句 1(because 引导):“I didn’t go to the party because I had to finish my homework.”
连接词:because
原因:I had to finish my homework(我必须完成作业)
结果:I didn’t go to the party(我没去参加派对)
例句 2(so 引导):“It rained heavily last night, so we couldn’t go for a walk.”
连接词:so
原因:It rained heavily last night(昨晚下了大雨)
结果:we couldn’t go for a walk(我们没能去散步)
Because he is ill, so he can’t come to school.(×)
正确:Because he is ill, he can’t come to school.(√)
正确:He is ill, so he can’t come to school.(√)
误区 2:混淆 “because” 和 “because of” 的用法
正确(because + 句子):I stayed at home because I felt tired.(√)
正确(because of + 名词短语):I stayed at home because of my tiredness.(√)
错误:I stayed at home because my tiredness.(×,because 后接了名词短语)
错误:I stayed at home because of I felt tired.(×,because of 后接了句子)
Tom didn’t pass the math exam because he didn’t study hard.”
连接词:because
My mother bought a new umbrella, so I don’t have to use the old one.”
连接词:so
We canceled the picnic because the weather was too bad.”
连接词:because
Lucy loves reading, so she spends a lot of time in the library every week.”
连接词:so
I drink a glass of milk every morning because it’s good for my bones.”
连接词:because
The traffic was very heavy this morning, so I arrived at school late.”
连接词:so
If it doesn’t rain tomorrow, we will have a picnic.
We will have a picnic if it doesn’t rain tomorrow.
If you study hard, you will get good grades.”
条件:you study hard(你努力学习)
结果:you will get good grades(你会取得好成绩)
If it will rain tomorrow, we won’t go out.(×,从句用了将来时 will rain)
正确:If it rains tomorrow, we won’t go out.(√,从句用一般现在时 rains,主句用将来时 won’t go)
例句(客观事实):If you heat ice, it turns into water.(如果你加热冰,它就会变成水。
条件状语从句(表 “如果”):If you finish your homework, you can watch TV.(如果你完成作业,你就可以看电视。
宾语从句(表 “是否”):I don’t know if he will come.(我不知道他是否会来。

“there be 句型” 的基本结构为:There + be 动词(is/are/was/were)+ 主语(某物 / 某人)+ 地点状语(某地)。
时态为一般现在时:主语单数 / 不可数名词用 “is”,主语复数用 “are”;
There is a bookstore near our school.
There are two parks in this neighborhood.
There was a big tree in front of my house last year.
There were many students in the classroom just now.
There are three libraries in our school.
主语:three libraries(三个图书馆,存在的事物)
地点:in our school(在我们学校,事物所在位置)
误区 1:混淆 “there be” 与 “have/has” 的用法
“there be” 表示 “某地存在某物 / 人”,强调 “客观存在”,无生命的地点也可作 “存在的场景”;
Our school has three libraries.(×,若想表达 “学校里存在图书馆”,而非 “学校拥有图书馆”,用 “there be” 更准确)
There are three libraries in our school.(√,强调客观存在)
正确例句(表所属):I have a new pen.(√,主语 “I” 是有生命的人,表所属关系)
There are a bookstore near our school.(×,主语 “a bookstore” 是单数,be 动词应为 “is”)
There is a bookstore near our school.(√)
There was many students in the classroom just now.(×,主语 “many students” 是复数,be 动词应为 “were”)
There were many students in the classroom just now.(√)
3.1.3 there be 句型实例演练
There is a big playground behind our teaching building.
be 动词与主语:is(一般现在时,主语 “a big playground” 是单数)
地点:behind our teaching building(在我们教学楼后面)
There are five people in my family.
be 动词与主语:are(一般现在时,主语 “five people” 是复数)
地点:in my family(在我家)
There was a small river in this city ten years ago.
be 动词与主语:was(一般过去时,主语 “a small river” 是单数)
地点:in this city(在这座城市里)
There are many kinds of fruits in the supermarket.
be 动词与主语:are(一般现在时,主语 “many kinds of fruits” 是复数)
地点:in the supermarket(在超市里)
There is a beautiful lake in the center of the park.
be 动词与主语:is(一般现在时,主语 “a beautiful lake” 是单数)
地点:in the center of the park(在公园中心)
There were forty desks and chairs in our classroom last semester.
be 动词与主语:were(一般过去时,主语 “forty desks and chairs” 是复数)
地点:in our classroom(在我们教室里)
肯定式:动词原形 + 其他(宾语 / 状语),如 “Open the door.”“Please sit down.”;
否定式:Don’t + 动词原形 + 其他,如 “Don’t talk in class.”“Never forget to say ‘thank you’.”(“Never” 是加强否定语气的副词,相当于 “Don’t ever”)。
或 “Pass me the pen, please.”。
Close the window before you leave.”
核心动作:Close(关闭)
补充细节:the window(宾语,关闭的对象)、before you leave(状语,关闭的时间)
Don’t eat too much candy.”
补充细节:too much candy(宾语,吃的对象)
肯定式(表请求 / 建议):补充 “请”,如 “Please open the door.” 翻译为 “请打开门。”;
肯定式(表命令):无需补充语气词,直接翻译动作,如 “Stand up.” 翻译为 “站起来。”;
否定式:补充 “别”“不要”,如 “Don’t run in the hallways.”
Open the door, please.(√)
Don’t talk in class.(√)
Never forgets to bring your textbook.(×,“Never” 后接动词原形 “forget”)
Never forget to bring your textbook.(√,翻译为 “千万别忘记带你的课本。”)
错误理解:将 “Never eat too much.”
Listen to the teacher carefully in class.
Don’t touch the hot pot.
Wait for the green light before you cross the street.
核心动作:Wait for(等待)、cross(穿过)
Drink more water every day.
核心动作:Drink(喝)
Don’t make noise in the library.
Never forget to say “thank you” when someone helps you.
由 be 动词引导:Is/Are/Was/Were + 主语 + 其他,如 “Is he a student?”“Were you at home yesterday?”;
由情态动词引导:Can/May/Will/Should + 主语 + 动词原形 + 其他,如 “Can you speak English?”“Will you go to the party?”;
由助动词引导(主语是第三人称单数 / 过去时):Do/Does/Did + 主语 + 动词原形 + 其他,如 “Do you like apples?”“Does she play the piano?”“Did you finish your homework?”。
例句 1(be 动词引导):“Is this your new bag?”
This is your new bag.(这是你的新书包。)
疑问点:“this” 是否是 “your new bag”;
Can you help me with my math?”
You can help me with my math.(你能帮我学数学。)
疑问点:“you” 是否 “能帮我学数学”;
Does Tom usually get up early?”
例句(Does 引导):“Does she like reading?”
错误还原:She like reading.(×,主语 “she” 是第三人称单数,动词应为 “likes”)
She likes reading.(√)
例句(Did 引导):“Did they go to the park yesterday?”
They go to the park yesterday.(×,时态是一般过去时,动词应为 “went”)
They went to the park yesterday.(√)
一般疑问句用 “Yes/No” 回答,而特殊疑问句由 “What/Where/When/Who/Why/How” 等特殊疑问词引导,需要具体回答(而非 “Yes/No”)。
一般疑问句(需 Yes/No 回答):“Is your favorite subject English?”(你最喜欢的科目是英语吗?)
回答:Yes, it is. / No, it isn’t.
特殊疑问句(需具体回答):“What is your favorite subject?”(你最喜欢的科目是什么?)
回答:My favorite subject is math.(不能用 Yes/No 回答)
Are you free this weekend?
引导词:Are(be 动词)
You are free this weekend.(你这周末有空。)
Can you finish your homework before 9 o’clock?
引导词:Can(情态动词)
You can finish your homework before 9 o’clock.(你能在 9 点前完成作业。)
Does your mother cook dinner every evening?
引导词:Does(助动词,主语 “your mother” 是第三人称单数)
Was he in the music club last year?
引导词:Was(be 动词,一般过去时,主语 “he” 是单数)
He was in the music club last year.(他去年在音乐俱乐部。)
Did you take the train to Beijing last month?
引导词:Did(助动词,一般过去时)
You took the train to Beijing last month.(你上个月坐火车去北京了。)
Will you see a doctor if you feel sick?
引导词:Will(情态动词,表将来)
You will see a doctor if you feel sick.(如果你觉得不舒服,你会去看医生。)
1:Never have I seen such a beautiful sunset.(我从未见过如此美丽的日落。)
倒装结构:Never + 助动词 “have” + 主语 “I” + 谓语剩余部分 “seen”
例句 2:Seldom does she go out alone at night.(她很少晚上独自出门。)
倒装结构:Seldom + 助动词 “does” + 主语 “she” + 谓语原形 “go”
I have never seen such a beautiful sunset.(正常语序为主语 “I” + 谓语 “have seen” + 宾语 “such a beautiful sunset”)
She seldom goes out alone at night.(正常语序为主语 “she” + 谓语 “goes out” + 状语 “alone at night”)
3.4.2 强调句:“It is/was + 被强调部分 + that/who + 其他” 的理解
例句 1(强调主语):It is Tom who helped me with my English.(是汤姆帮我学英语的。)
结构:It is + 被强调部分 “Tom”(主语) + who + 其他 “helped me with my English”
Tom helped me with my English.(完整陈述句,符合强调句特征)
例句 2(强调时间状语):It was last Sunday that we visited the museum.(我们是在上周日去参观博物馆的。)
结构:It was + 被强调部分 “last Sunday”(时间状语) + that + 其他 “we visited the museum”
We visited the museum last Sunday.(完整陈述句,符合强调句特征)
例句 1 被强调部分:Tom(主语),剩余部分 “helped me with my English” 表示 “帮我学英语”,核心信息是 “汤姆帮我学英语”,“It is...who” 突出 “是汤姆”,而非别人。
1:Hardly did I sleep last night because of the noise.
I hardly slept last night because of the noise.
2:Rarely does my father watch TV on workdays.
My father rarely watches TV on workdays.
1:It is this book that my teacher recommended to us.
识别:“It is + 被强调部分 ‘this book’ + that”,去掉标志词后 “This book my teacher recommended to us” 可调整为 “My teacher recommended this book to us”(完整陈述句),是强调句。
被强调部分:this book(宾语)
2:It was in the park that we met our old friend yesterday.
识别:“It was + 被强调部分 ‘in the park’ + that”,去掉标志词后 “We met our old friend in the park yesterday”(完整陈述句),是强调句。
被强调部分:in the park(地点状语)
例如面对长句 “On weekends, my brother who likes sports often plays basketball with his friends in the gym.”,先定位主干 “my brother plays basketball with his friends”,再补充修饰成分 “周末”“喜欢运动的”“在体育馆”,即可轻松理解句意。
例如 “I will go to the bookstore if I have time tomorrow.”,拆分为主句 “I will go to the bookstore” 和从句 “if I have time tomorrow”,结合 “if” 的条件逻辑,理解为 “如果明天有时间,我就去书店”。
there be 句型:看到 “there is/are”,直接译为 “某地有某物”;
祈使句:看到 “动词原形开头” 或 “Don’t + 动词原形”,直接抓核心动作,补充 “请”“不要” 等语气词;
一般疑问句:看到 “be 动词 / 情态动词 / 助动词提前”,还原为陈述句后加 “吗” 字翻译;
用 “___” 标出句子主干(主语、谓语、宾语 / 表语);
用 “[]” 标出修饰成分(定语、状语);
“On a cold winter morning, the old man who has lived in this village for 50 years shared his interesting life stories with the children who came to visit him from the city.”
What can we know about the old man?
A. He is a new resident in the village.
B. He told life stories to city children.
C. He has no friends in the village.
D. He refused to meet the visiting children.
定位句子主干:排除修饰成分 “On a cold winter morning”(时间状语),找到主干:“the old man shared his interesting life stories with the children”(老人和孩子们分享他有趣的人生故事)。
拆解定语从句:第一个从句 “who has lived in this village for 50 years”:修饰 “the old man”,译为 “在这个村子里住了 50 年的”,排除选项 A(“new resident” 与 “lived for 50 years” 矛盾)。第二个从句 “who came to visit him from the city”:修饰 “the children”,译为 “从城市来拜访他的”,对应选项 B 中的 “city children”。
排除干扰选项:选项 C(“no friends”)和 D(“refused to meet”)在句子中无任何信息支撑,属于无中生有,直接排除。
分析:“有” 对应 there be 句型,“卖新鲜水果的” 需用定语从句 “that sells fresh fruit” 修饰 “小商店”。
There is a small shop that sells fresh fruit at the gate of our school.
We will go climbing if the weather is fine tomorrow.
1:“The movie that my parents watched last week is about a brave doctor who saved many lives during the epidemic.”
主干:“The movie is about a brave doctor”(这部电影是关于一位勇敢的医生的)。
1:“that my parents watched last week”(我父母上周看的),修饰 “the movie”。
2:“who saved many lives during the epidemic”(在疫情期间救了很多人的),修饰 “a brave doctor”。
2:“She didn’t go to the concert because she had to prepare for her math exam, so her best friend gave her a recording of the show.”
因果逻辑:“because” 引导原因(“prepare for math exam”),“so” 引导结果(“friend gave a recording”),注意英文中 “because” 和 “so” 不同时出现,中文需补充 “因为……
原句:“The girl who is wearing a red dress is my cousin.”(穿红裙子的女孩是我的表妹)
要求:对 “who is wearing a red dress” 提问(即 “哪个女孩是你的表妹?”)
分析:被提问部分是定语,修饰 “the girl”,需用疑问词 “which”(表 “哪个”),保留主干 “is my cousin”。
Which girl is your cousin?
原句:“The book that was written by Lu Xun is very popular.”(鲁迅写的书很受欢迎)
要求:将定语从句 “that was written by Lu Xun” 改为简单修饰成分
The book written by Lu Xun is very popular.
I got up at 8 o’clock on Saturday morning.
I helped my mom clean the house.
I went to the library in the afternoon.
I read a storybook there.
I felt happy.
On Saturday morning, I got up at 8 o’clock and helped my mom clean the house because she was busy with work.(用 because 引导因果状语从句,连接两个动作)
In the afternoon, I went to the library where I read an interesting storybook about animals.(用 where 引导定语从句,修饰 “library”,避免句子割裂)
There was a small garden next to the library, so I took a walk there after reading.(用 there be 句型和 so 引导结果状语从句,丰富句式)
It was a relaxing weekend that I will remember for a long time.(用强调句,突出 “周末很放松” 的感受)

When is the best time for us to enjoy the bright moon? Of course, it is Mid-Autumn Festival, one of the most important holidays in China. We look at the moon, eat moon cakes, and get together with our families. The tradition is thousands of years old.
The moon, the key part of the festival, is special to most Chinese people. We enjoy and admire it. We use the round moon to describe reunion, that is, get together.
Our respect of the moon dates back to ancient times. There is the legend of Chang’e flying to the moon — the most famous story about the moon. Many Chinese poets connect the moon with homesickness. For example, “Beside my bed a pool of light. Is it hoarfrost on the ground?” fromJing Ye Si(Thoughts in the Silent Night) by Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai.
Today, the moon is still important to Chinese people. The Miao minority in Guizhou province has a special custom. On the night of Mid-Autumn Festival, young people dance under the moon to find their other half.
However, Western people see the moon differently. In some stories, the full moon is somewhat frightened to people. The most well-known story is the werewolf. A werewolf usually looks like a human, but changes into a wolf-like creature when there is a full moon. Also, if someone is very excited or even crazy about something, others may joke, “It must be a full moon.”
1.What’s the Chinese meaning of the underlined word “reunion”?
2.What does Paragraph 3 try to explain?
A.When the story of Chang’е started. B.Why the moon is special to Chinese people.
C.How ancient poets described the moon. D.What ancient Chinese knew about the moon.
3.When “It must be a full moon” is used to describe a person, the person ________.
A.likes the moon very much B.misses his or her home
C.is well-known to others D.is very excited about something
4.What’s the story mainly about?
A.How Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated in China.
B.Different holiday customs in China.
C.Stories about the full moon in China and Western countries.
D.How the full moon is understood in China and Western countries.

Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to the other side. Most people know this joke. But recently, some people have been much more worried about how the grizzly bear and mountain lion can cross the road. “Millions of animals die each year on U.S. roads,” the Federal Highway Administration reports. In fact, only about 80 ocelots (豹猫), an endangered wild cat, exist in the U.S. today. The main reason? Roadkill.
“Eco-passages” may help animals cross the road without being hit by cars. They are paths both over and under roads. “These eco-passages can be extremely useful, so that wildlife can avoid road accidents,” said Jodi Hilty of the Wildlife Protection Society.
But do animals actually use the eco-passages? The answer is yes. Paul Beier of Northern Arizona University found foot marks left by mountain lions on an eco-passage that went under a highway. This showed that the lions used the passage.
Builders of eco-passages try to make them look like a natural part of an area by planting trees on and around them. Animals seem to be catching on. Animals like salamanders (蝾螈) and grizzly bears are using the bridges and underpasses.
The next time you visit a park or drive through an area with a lot of wildlife, look around. You might see an animal overpass!
1.The writer uses the example of “ocelots” to show that ________.
A.wild animals have become more dangerous
B.the driving condition has improved greatly
C.the measure for protecting wildlife fails to work
D.an increasing number of animals are killed in road accidents

D.a bridge for animals to get over a river
3.What does the writer mean by saying “animals seem to be catching on”?
A.animals begin to realize the dangers on the road
B.animals begin to learn to use eco-passages
C.animals are crossing the road in groups
D.animals are increasing in number
4.What is the best title for the passage?
A.Special Bridges Help Animals Cross the Road
B.Endangered Animals Increase Because of Roadkill
C.Animals Fail to Cross the Road
D.Take Steps to Protect Animals in Danger

Once there was a milkman named Deenu. He built his hut (小屋) far away from his village in the woods. He preferred the quietness of the woods to the noisy village.
Deenu was an honest man. He treated every person fairly, but sometimes he got cheated. He thought the world was full of evil spirits.
One evening, Deenu was returning home after selling milk in the village. He saw an old man sitting under a tree meditating (冥想), so he walked up quietly. “Can I help you?” the old man asked with his eyes closed.
“Yes, I want to know how to change the world. Everything in nature is so beautiful, but there are so many bad people who only care about themselves. What can I do?” Deenu said.
The old man smiled and said, “I can see that you are a responsible man. Answer a few questions first. Did you smile at all the customers who came to buy your milk today?”
“Sometimes, but not all,” Deenu replied.
“When you smiled, did they smile back?” the old man asked. “Yes, they were very nice people.”
“For those people you don’t like, did you show them a smile first?” “Not really—why should I?” Deenu asked. “What if you gave them a smile as well?”
“Well, they ... they might smile back,” Deenu said.
“That’s it. If you really want to do something for the world, you can start with yourself. You can’t decide how other people think or act, but you can decide what you do,” the old man said patiently.

We were standing at the top of a church tower. My father had brought me to this high tower in a small town not far from our home in Rome. I wondered why.
“Look down, Elsa,” Father said. I gathered all my courage and looked down. I saw the square in the center of the village. And I saw several streets leading to the square. “See, my dear,” Father said gently. “There is more than one way to the square. Life is like that. If you can’t get to the place where you want to go by one road, try another.”
Now I understood why I was there. Earlier that day I had begged my mother to do something about the awful lunches that were served at school. But she refused because she could not believe the lunches were as bad as I said.
When I turned to Father for help, he would not help. Instead, he brought me to this high tower to give me a lesson. By the time we reached home, I had a plan.
At school the next day, I poured my lunch soup into a bottle and brought it home. Then I asked our cook to serve it to Mother at dinner. The plan worked perfectly. She tried one spoonful and sputtered, “The cook must have gone mad!” Quickly I told what I had done, and Mother promised that she would take up the matter of lunches at school the next day!
In the years that followed I often remembered the lesson Father taught me. I began to work as a fashion designer two years ago. I wouldn’t stop working until I tried every possible way. Father’s wise words always remind me that there is more than one way to the square.

Pat became crazy about detective (侦探) stories when he was about 12 years old. Every day, he tried to find a mystery to solve. One of his prime interests was the family safe (保险柜), which was kept in his parents’ bedroom. ________
One day, when his parents were away. Pat managed to open the safe, although he was nervous. To his surprise, he found only a book of stamps inside. To him, it was just a book of old Chinese stamps from the early 1930s to the late 1940s. Where did it come from? Why was it locked in the safe? It was really a mystery.
When his parents came back, he told them what he had done. His father didn’t shout at him. Instead, he told him the story behind the stamps. A man collected these stamps while he was in China. In the early 1950s, he left China and returned to his hometown in Canada. Before the man died, he gave the stamps to his son, who then sold the stamps to Pat’s father.
As Pat listened to the story of the book of stamps, he imagined how the man managed to collect all the stamps during the war (战争). Pat’s father told him that whenever he looked at the stamps, he felt as if the man was talking to him about his days in China. “Dad,” I say one day, “let’s take a trip. Why don’t you fly out and meet me?”
My father just retired(退休)after 27 years as a manager for IBM. His job filled his day and his life. While he tied a tie and put on the same Swiss watch, I rowed a boat across Lake of the Ozarks.
My father sees me drifting aimlessly, nothing to show for my 33 years but a passport full of funny stamps. He wants me to settle down(安顿下来), but now I want him to find an adventure.
He agrees to travel with me through the national parks. We meet four weeks later in Rapid City.
“What’s our first stop?” asks my father.
“What time is it?”
“Still don’t have a watch?”
Less than an hour away is Mount Rushmore. As he stares up at the four Presidents carved(雕刻)in rocks, his mouth and eyes open slowly, like those of a little boy.
“Unbelievable,” he says, “How was this done?”
A film in the information center shows sculptor Gutzon Borglum devoted(致力于)14 years to the sculpture(雕塑)and then left the final work to his son.
We stare up and I ask myself, “Would I ever devote my life to anything?”
No directions, no goals. I always used to hear those words in my father’s voice. Now I hear them in my own.
The next day we’re at Yellowstone National Park, where we have a picnic.
“Did you ever travel with your dad?” I ask.
“Only once,” he says. “I never spoke much with my father. We loved each other-but never said it. Whatever he could give me, he gave.”
That last sentence—it’s probably the same thing. I’d say about my father. And what I’d want my child to say about me.
In Glacier National Park, my father says, “I’ve never seen water so blue.”I have, in several places of the world. I can keep traveling, I realize—and maybe a regular job won’t be as dull as I feared.
Weeks after our trip, I call my father.
“The photos from the trip are wonderful, ” he says. “We’ve got to take another trip like that sometime.”
I tell him I’ve decided to settle down, and I’m wearing a watch.

Have you ever heard the saying, “If you want a friend, be one?” Here is how one new teacher made friends with the girls and the boys in her class on the first day of school. As the bell rang, the teacher smiled at each girl and boy. Then she said in a quiet voice.
“Good morning. How nice it is to have all of you in my class this year. I’d like to know each of you. I am sure we will enjoy working together.” Everyone felt that she meant what she said because of her sweet voice and her friendly look. She told the girls and boys her name and wrote it on the blackboard. Then she told them some of the things she liked to do and she was hoping to do with them during the year.
Then she said to the class, “Now you know my name and the things I like and I want to know your names and the things you like. Then I will feel that I know you.”
Could you make friends by doing the same things as the teacher did?
One way of getting to know and to like the other girls and boys in your class is to find out more about them. It is often easy to be friends with those people who have the same hobbies with you, play the same games, and have made the same journeys you have.
You may find that some new comers in your class may miss their old friends and feel strange and alone. You can invite them to walk to and from school or to ride bikes with you. You will find many things to talk about. Just talking together in a friendly manner (方式) is one good way to make friends.

Most friendships die a nature death: people move, change jobs, or start different stages of life. Other friendships, however, end unexpectedly. When a friendship is over and you don’t understand why, it can be especially painful. Sometimes a friend ends your relationship without telling you why.
The loss of friendship might be worth reflecting on. Knowing when a friendship is over and why it ends may help you build stronger friendships in the future.
•See if you can find a problem.
When a friendship is over, examine your relationship. Perhaps you remember your friend complaining that you’re always late. Maybe you seldom return your friend’s phone calls. When a friend ends your relationship, try to find out the reasons why the friendship is over,
•Write a letter to your friend.
Express your feelings about the friendship. Do you miss seeing them? Do you have any regrets? Would you act differently if you were still friends? Make it an honest communication.
•Express your feeling of being hurt or anger.
Write or talk about how you feel in a letter. When a friendship is over, it’s important to communicate exactly how hurt you feel and why. Write until you have nothing left to say. When a friend ends your relationship, you do have the right to express yourself.
•Communicate that you are open to pick up the friendship.
When a friendship is over and you want to reconnect some day, send Christmas, or birthday cards. Say hi and send greetings through mutual(共有的)friends . When a friendship is over, don’t give up until you’re ready.
•Decide to make your present friendships better.
An adviser once told me that simply talking about your relationship strengthens your relationship. Talk to your present friends. Are they happy with your friendship? If a friend ends your relationship, learn something from it.

D.Perhaps your friendship is over because of your problem
3.When a friendship is over, you may do all the following EXCEPT ________
A.write a letter to your friend to tell your regrets
B.talk about how you feel about your friendship
C.ask your friends whose mistake on earth it is
D.send your greetings to your friend before giving up
4.In which situation do you probably feel painful most when a friendship ends?
A.Your friend doesn’t work with you any longer.
B.Your friend goes to another place to live.
C.Your friend leaves for further study in another country.
D.Your friend suddenly refuses to speak to you or even meet you.
5.The purpose of this passage is to ________
A.explain why you lose a friendship B.suggest what to do when a friendship is over
C.tell you when a friendship is over D.advise how to end a friendship

To stay safe, we have to sacrifice (牺牲) many things we enjoy because of COVID-19, including physical touch. Research has shown that humans need physical touch to stay healthy. Without it, many become lonely, sad and even sick. So, if you feel you need a hug, we know something you can safely put your arms around and hold close: a tree!
Tree hugging may sound a little strange. But humans have practiced forms of nature therapy (疗法) for years. The Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku is an example. Shinrin means forest in Japanese, and Yoku is the Japanese word for bath. But no soap or water is needed for Shinrin Yoku. All that nature bathing requires is spending time in nature: listening to its sounds, breathing in its air and connecting to its life force.
Recently, Israel has been encouraging tree hugging. The country’s nature and parks agency agrees on the public health campaign. Orit Steinfeld is director of Israel’s Apollonia National Park. She says, "In this special period, we encourage people around the world to go out to nature, take a deep breath, hug a tree, express love and get love." Inside the park, some visitors have followed the advice and hugged trees. Barbara Grant is one of them. She says, "The most basic human need is for connection, for touching, and for hugging."
1.What does the underlined sentence mainly tell us?
A.Sick people feel lonely from time to time.
B.People may get sick when they feel lonely.
C.Physical touch is very important to humans.
D.It's necessary for us to stay away from others.
2.The Japanese Shinrin -Yoku is mentioned to show that ________ .
A.nature therapy isn't a new idea
B.it's better to wash hands with soap
C.Japanese people are good with nature
D.tree hugging enjoys widespread popularity
3.In Orit Steinfeld’s opinion, it’s ________ for people to hug trees.
A.Impossible B.helpful C.dangerous D.meaningless
4.What’s the BEST title for the passage?
A.Different forms of physical touch
B.The importance of physical touch
C.The Japanese practice of Shinrin- Yoku
D.Tree hugging—a form of physical touch

Last weekend, I took Lucy to a park, where she discovered a track (轨道) with large bumps (凸块) and sharp turns. At first, I thought Lucy was able to ride her bike along the track, but she quickly found that her bike was too low to the ground and kept getting stuck on top of the bumps.
Lucy looked at me with fear because she was still a green hand in bike riding. I tried to encourage her to, but really, I was thinking- this is going to be a disaster. Not because I thought she would get hurt. More because I thought she wouldn't be able to pick up enough speed to balance, then get really discouraged and give up quickly. I imagined her throwing her bicycle to the ground and then crying all the way home.
But I was only half right. Lucy did have a lot of trouble riding the bike. She couldn't find her balance. She fell many times. At one point, she almost started crying because younger kids were getting angry that she was slowing everyone else down. But she did not give up. She kept picking herself up and trying again. She even took the bike off the track and into the main park to practice pushing off and picking up speed on a flat ground. When she felt more confident, she came back. Then she did it over and over again until she finally reached her goal of going around the whole track without falling once. Then she didn't want to leave and everyone was cheering her on.
This was not a day that ended in a disaster. It was a day when Lucy learned that perseverance(毅力) and willpower pays off.
1.Why was Lucy taken to the park last weekend?
A.To play with other kids. B.To discover a track for fun.
C.To find her speed was too slow. D.To ride her bike along the track.
2.What does the underlined sentence probably mean in Paragraph 2?
A.Lucy would get hurt and cry all the way home.
B.Lucy would fear to ride the bike and get discouraged.
C.Lacy would lose balance and slow the younger kids down.
D.Lucy would have trouble riding the bike and give up soon.
3.What did Lucy take the bike into the main park for?
A.Being cheered on by everyone. B.Getting practice in an easier way.
C.Feeling more confident and coming back. D.Reaching her goal of riding the bike at once.

Have you ever felt that your feelings and state of mind sometimes can be influenced by places? Have you ever noticed that certain places especially upset you? Or that certain places are especially relaxing and peaceful? Well, there’s a good chance that the colors in those places are playing a part.
Scientists have studied the influence of colors on our feelings, health and the way of thinking for many years. For example, some studies show that blue is a relaxing color. Blue reminds us of the ocean and sky. Pleasant dreams might be the end result of painting the bedroom blue. It has a calming influence on the body, lowering the blood pressure and heart rate, and has a cooling influence in hot and humid weather. Another study shows that blue in the classroom can be a good thing. An angry child would become calmer after being in a classroom painted blue.
But red has the opposite influence. It is an energetic color that can excite and warm the body, and increase the heart rate. Therefore, it may not be so great for bedrooms where you are trying to relax, since it can cause the difficulty in sleep.
Yellow is a very welcoming color. It makes people feel cheerful, energetic and happy. It is a perfect color for a sunroom. Since yellow is easy to be noticed, it is also one of the most attention- getting colors. Yellow can be used to draw notice, such as on traffic signs or advertisements.
Green is the most relaxing color on the color wheel. Green reminds us of spring and new beginning. It brings calmness and hope, and it has a relaxing influence on the body as well as the mind. That’s why it’s suitable for almost any room in the house. The color green can lead to more creative thinking, so green is a good choice for offices.
1.How does the writer lead readers to the introduction about colors?
A.By telling a story. B.By giving some examples.
C.By asking some questions. D.By showing the study result.
2.What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.People like to dream during their sleep. B.Blue is the dream color for many people.
C.Blue bedrooms may bring more pleasant dreams. D.People can't sleep well in their bedrooms painted blue
3.Why do most warning signs use yellow as their main color?
A.Because yellow can brighten your day. B.Because yellow makes people feel joyful.
C.Because yellow is the most beautiful color. D.Because yellow is easier to be noticed by people.
4.Which two pictures can calm you down according to the text?
a. b. c. d.
A.cd B.bd C.ab D.ac
5.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the text?
A.Green can relax the mind and bring creative thinking.
B.It’s perfect to have a bedroom painted red and a sunroom painted yellow.

若句子为 “主谓宾(SVO)” 结构,宾语是 “动作的承受者”,通常位于谓语之后,由名词、代词等充当(如上述句子中的 “her breakfast”);

第一步:识别连接词 “because/so”
“because” 引导的是 “原因从句”,通常位于主句之前或之后,回答 “为什么” 的问题;
Because I was late, so my teacher was angry.(×)
1:Because I was late, my teacher was angry.(√,because 引导原因从句)
2:I was late, so my teacher was angry.(√,so 引导结果从句)
若连接词是 “because”,则 “because 后面的内容是原因,主句内容是结果”;
If you practice speaking English every day, your English will improve quickly.”
(If you practice speaking English every day),主句(your English will improve quickly)

We will go to the cinema this weekend if we have free time.”
连接词与主从句:if 引导从句(if we have free time),主句(We will go to the cinema this weekend)
If you like painting, you can join our art club.”
连接词与主从句:if 引导从句(If you like painting),主句(you can join our art club)
You will feel better if you drink more water and have a good rest.”
连接词与主从句:if 引导从句(if you drink more water and have a good rest),主句(You will feel better)
If you press this button, the machine will start working.”
(If you press this button),主句(the machine will start working)
If you take the bus, you will arrive at the station on time.”
(If you take the bus),主句(you will arrive at the station on time)
“there be 句型” 的基本结构为:There + be 动词(is/are/was/were)+ 主语(某物 / 某人)+ 地点状语(某地)。
时态为一般现在时:主语单数 / 不可数名词用 “is”,主语复数用 “are”;
There is a bookstore near our school.
There are two parks in this neighborhood.
There was a big tree in front of my house last year.
There were many students in the classroom just now.
There are three libraries in our school.
主语:three libraries(三个图书馆,存在的事物)
地点:in our school(在我们学校,事物所在位置)
误区 1:混淆 “there be” 与 “have/has” 的用法
“there be” 表示 “某地存在某物 / 人”,强调 “客观存在”,无生命的地点也可作 “存在的场景”;
Our school has three libraries.(×,若想表达 “学校里存在图书馆”,而非 “学校拥有图书馆”,用 “there be” 更准确)
There are three libraries in our school.(√,强调客观存在)
正确例句(表所属):I have a new pen.(√,主语 “I” 是有生命的人,表所属关系)
There are a bookstore near our school.(×,主语 “a bookstore” 是单数,be 动词应为 “is”)
There is a bookstore near our school.(√)
There was many students in the classroom just now.(×,主语 “many students” 是复数,be 动词应为 “were”)
There were many students in the classroom just now.(√)
3.1.3 there be 句型实例演练
There is a big playground behind our teaching building.
be 动词与主语:is(一般现在时,主语 “a big playground” 是单数)
地点:behind our teaching building(在我们教学楼后面)
There are five people in my family.
be 动词与主语:are(一般现在时,主语 “five people” 是复数)
地点:in my family(在我家)
There was a small river in this city ten years ago.
be 动词与主语:was(一般过去时,主语 “a small river” 是单数)
地点:in this city(在这座城市里)
There are many kinds of fruits in the supermarket.
be 动词与主语:are(一般现在时,主语 “many kinds of fruits” 是复数)
地点:in the supermarket(在超市里)
There is a beautiful lake in the center of the park.
be 动词与主语:is(一般现在时,主语 “a beautiful lake” 是单数)
地点:in the center of the park(在公园中心)
There were forty desks and chairs in our classroom last semester.
be 动词与主语:were(一般过去时,主语 “forty desks and chairs” 是复数)
地点:in our classroom(在我们教室里)
肯定式:动词原形 + 其他(宾语 / 状语),如 “Open the door.”“Please sit down.”;
否定式:Don’t + 动词原形 + 其他,如 “Don’t talk in class.”“Never forget to say ‘thank you’.”(“Never” 是加强否定语气的副词,相当于 “Don’t ever”)。
或 “Pass me the pen, please.”。
Close the window before you leave.”
核心动作:Close(关闭)
补充细节:the window(宾语,关闭的对象)、before you leave(状语,关闭的时间)
Don’t eat too much candy.”
补充细节:too much candy(宾语,吃的对象)
肯定式(表请求 / 建议):补充 “请”,如 “Please open the door.” 翻译为 “请打开门。”;
肯定式(表命令):无需补充语气词,直接翻译动作,如 “Stand up.” 翻译为 “站起来。”;
由 be 动词引导:Is/Are/Was/Were + 主语 + 其他,如 “Is he a student?”“Were you at home yesterday?”;
由情态动词引导:Can/May/Will/Should + 主语 + 动词原形 + 其他,如 “Can you speak English?”“Will you go to the party?”;
疑问点:“this” 是否是 “your new bag”;
Can you help me with my math?”
You can help me with my math.(你能帮我学数学。)
疑问点:“you” 是否 “能帮我学数学”;
Does Tom usually get up early?”
例句(Does 引导):“Does she like reading?”
错误还原:She like reading.(×,主语 “she” 是第三人称单数,动词应为 “likes”)
She likes reading.(√)
例句(Did 引导):“Did they go to the park yesterday?”
They go to the park yesterday.(×,时态是一般过去时,动词应为 “went”)
They went to the park yesterday.(√)
一般疑问句用 “Yes/No” 回答,而特殊疑问句由 “What/Where/When/Who/Why/How” 等特殊疑问词引导,需要具体回答(而非 “Yes/No”)。
一般疑问句(需 Yes/No 回答):“Is your favorite subject English?”(你最喜欢的科目是英语吗?)
回答:Yes, it is. / No, it isn’t.
特殊疑问句(需具体回答):“What is your favorite subject?”(你最喜欢的科目是什么?)
回答:My favorite subject is math.(不能用 Yes/No 回答)

引导词:Can(情态动词)
You can finish your homework before 9 o’clock.(你能在 9 点前完成作业。)
Does your mother cook dinner every evening?
引导词:Does(助动词,主语 “your mother” 是第三人称单数)

例如 “I will go to the bookstore if I have time tomorrow.”,拆分为主句 “I will go to the bookstore” 和从句 “if I have time tomorrow”,结合 “if” 的条件逻辑,理解为 “如果明天有时间,我就去书店”。
there be 句型:看到 “there is/are”,直接译为 “某地有某物”;
祈使句:看到 “动词原形开头” 或 “Don’t + 动词原形”,直接抓核心动作,补充 “请”“不要” 等语气词;
一般疑问句:看到 “be 动词 / 情态动词 / 助动词提前”,还原为陈述句后加 “吗” 字翻译;
用 “___” 标出句子主干(主语、谓语、宾语 / 表语);
用 “[]” 标出修饰成分(定语、状语);

根据“We use the round moon to describe reunion, that is, get together.”
根据“Our respect of the moon dates back to ancient times.”
根据“Also, if someone is very excited or even crazy about something, others may joke, ‘It must be a full moon.’ ”可知“It must be a full moon.”

2.From the story, we know an eco-passage is ________.
A.a path for animals to cross the road
B.an underground path for cars
C.a fence built for the safety of the area
D.a bridge for animals to get over a river
3.What does the writer mean by saying “animals seem to be catching on”?
