八年级学生正处于英语学习关键时期。他们好奇心和求知欲强烈，经过初一阶段的学习，已具备一定英语基础，语言综合运用能力有所提升，表达热情增强。在知识储备上，掌握了基础词汇、句型和简单语法知识，但在词汇深度理解与运用、复杂语法掌握及长难句分析上有待提高。面对新版教材中增加的长难句和更高难度词汇，部分学生可能感到吃力。

1. Warmup (5 minutes) 

 Greet students and introduce the unit topic: To be a good learner. 

 Ask a brainstorming question: 

  “What does it mean to be a good learner?” 

 Write students’ ideas on the board (e.g., curiosity, practice, patience). 

2. Activity 1: Matching Chinese Sayings (10 minutes) 

Direct students to the three Chinese

 sayings in the textbook. 

 Read each saying aloud and clarify vocabulary (e.g., row against moving water, lifetime). 

 In pairs, students match each saying (1, 2, 3) with its meaning (a, b, c). 

 Check answers as a class: 

   1 → b 

   2 → a 

   3 → c 

 Discuss: Which saying do you like most? Why? 

3. Activity 2: Group Discussion (15 minutes) 

 Divide students into groups of 45. 

 Task: Discuss the most important thing for successful learning. 

 Provide sentence starters on the board: 

   I think ______ is important because… 

   In my opinion, we need to… 

   I agree/disagree because… 

 Groups share their top 2 ideas with the class. 

 Teacher lists key points on the board (e.g., motivation, teacher guidance, study skills, planning). 

4. RolePlay Based on Model Conversation (5 minutes) 

 Groups use the model conversation (Millie, Daniel, Simon, Sandy) to create a short dialogue. 

 Encourage use of expressions: 

   I agree. 

   That’s right. 

   I couldn’t agree more. 

 Invite 12 groups to perform their dialogue. 

5. Wrapup and Reflection (5 minutes) 

 Ask: What is one new idea you learned about successful learning today? 

 Summarize: Successful learning requires motivation, good strategies, and continuous effort. 

 Assign homework:
