Yellow Hostel
If I had to make just one recommendation for where to stay in Rome, it would be Yellow Hostel. It’s one of the best-rated hostels in the city, and for good reason. It’s affordable, and it’s got a fund atmosphere without being too noisy. As an added bonus, it’s close to the main train station.

根据第一段“Rome can be pricey for travelers, which is why many choose to stay in a hostel (旅社).(罗马对旅行者来说可能很贵,这就是为什么许多人选择住在旅社)”可知,选择住在旅社的旅行者可能最关心的是价格。故选A。
根据Youth Station Hostel部分“it also has free Wi-Fi in every room.(每间客房均提供免费无线网络连接)”可知,Youth Station Hostel的每间客房都提供免费无线网络连接,适合喜欢长时间上网的人。故选C。
根据Hotel and Hostel Des Artistes部分“Hotel and Hostel Des Artistes is located just a 10-minute walk from the central city station and it’s close to all of the city’s main attractions.(Hotel and Hostel Des Artistes距离市中心车站仅有10分钟步行路程,靠近城市的所有主要景点)”可知,Hotel and Hostel Des Artistes距离市中心车站近,且靠近城市的主要景点,即它的位置便利。故选B。

Shortly after Gustav Klimt, a renowned Austrian symbolist painter, died in 1918, a photograph was taken in the artist’s studio. It shows two paintings, each displayed on an easel: Lady with Fan and the unfinished work The Bride.
Lady with Fan was the last painting Klimt worked on during the year 1917. While most of his portraits paint society ladies, Klimt probably chose an unknown model here. In the appealing presentation of this unidentified woman, probably a dancer, she appears self-confident and assured. With her head held high, her shoulders exposed, and her bare breast covered by a fan, she gazes out beyond the viewer.
Klimt began studying East-Asian art as early as the 1890s. Initially, he was primarily interested in Japanese art, but in later years turned to Chinese, Korean, Persian, or Indian creative styles. Klimt adopted not only decorative elements from the art of these countries but also compositional aspects. He studied typical color schemes, for example, and transferred them into his paintings.
Lady with Fan was especially influenced by Chinese and Japanese art. Wrapped in a Chinese robe, the lady hides behind a decorated fan. The yellow wallpaper in the background features several characteristic patterns that are symbols of good fortune in East-Asian art: the Chinese phoenix(fenghuang), a crane, and the lotus flower. Another reference to Japanese painting is the lady with a fan herself: bijin-ga, Japanese woodblock portraits of beautiful celebrities.
Like Schiele, Kokoschka, and other artists from his circle, Klimt was a member of the Vienna Institute for Cultural Research. Founded in 1915, the institution advocated a peaceful, equal world culture and rejected the idea of the cultural superiority of the West, a concept widespread at the time. Klimt’s paintings convey his belief: European and Asian pictorial traditions are brought together in equal measure to form a harmonious symbiosis(共生).
24. What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A. Details of Lady with Fan. B. Appearance of the painter.
C. Recommendation of a model. D. Comparison of two styles.
25. What can we infer about Gustav Klimt according to the passage?
A. Lady with Fan was his greatest work.
B. He showed little interest in western art.
C. He was familiar with East-Asian cultural elements.
D. He applied various techniques of western art to all his works.
26. What message do Gustav Klimt’s paintings convey?
A. Promoting modern art. B. Protecting western cultures.
C. Strengthening social bonds. D. Appealing for culture equality.
27. Where is this passage most likely from?
A. An art journal. B. A science magazine. C. A news report. D. A travel guide.
A 25. C 26. D 27. A
24. A。 根据文章第二段“Lady with Fan was the last painting Klimt worked on during the year 1917. While most of his portraits paint society ladies, Klimt probably chose an unknown model here. In the appealing presentation of this unidentified woman, probably a dancer, she appears self-confident and assured. With her head held high, her shoulders exposed, and her bare breast covered by a fan, she gazes out beyond the viewer.(《持扇女子》是Klimt在1917年创作的最后一幅画。 故选A。
25. C。 根据文章第三段“Klimt began studying East-Asian art as early as the 1890s. Initially, he was primarily interested in Japanese art, but in later years turned to Chinese, Korean, Persian, or Indian creative styles. Klimt adopted not only decorative elements from the art of these countries but also compositional aspects. He studied typical color schemes, for example, and transferred them into his paintings.(Klimt早在19世纪90年代就开始研究东亚艺术。起初,他主要对日本艺术感兴趣,但在后来的岁月里,他转向了中国、韩国、波斯或印度的创作风格。Klimt不仅借鉴了这些国家艺术中的装饰元素,还吸收了构图方面的特点。例如,他研究了典型的配色方案,并将其运用到自己的画作中。)”以及第四段“Lady with Fan was especially influenced by Chinese and Japanese art. Wrapped in a Chinese robe, the lady hides behind a decorated fan. The yellow wallpaper in the background features several characteristic patterns that are symbols of good fortune in East-Asian art: the Chinese phoenix(fenghuang), a crane, and the lotus flower.(《持扇女子》尤其受到中国和日本艺术的影响。
根据文章最后一段“Founded in 1915, the institution advocated a peaceful, equal world culture and rejected the idea of the cultural superiority of the West, a concept widespread at the time. Klimt’s paintings convey his belief: European and Asian pictorial traditions are brought together in equal measure to form a harmonious symbiosis(共生).(该学会成立于1915年,倡导一个和平、平等的世界文化,反对当时普遍存在的西方文化优越论。Klimt的画作传达了他的信念:欧洲和亚洲的绘画传统以平等的方式融合在一起,形成了一种和谐的共生关系。)”及本段其他内容可知,维也纳文化研究学会倡导和平、平等的世界文化,反对当时盛行的西方文化优越论,而Klimt是该学会成员,他的画作传达了他的信念,即欧洲和亚洲的绘画传统以平等的方式融合在一起,形成和谐共生关系。这表明他的画作传达了呼吁文化平等的信息。故选D。
27. A。 故选A。

“I left Carrara when I was 26, and I was the youngest stone-cutter on the Abu Simbel worksite,” says Luciano Paoli. Aged 78, he is one of the workers with first-hand experience of this international adventure: the rescue of the Ramesses II temples in Egypt from the rising waters of the Aswan High Dam.
A green hand from the marble ( 大理石) caves of Carrara who helped cut the temples of Abu Simbel into blocks, Paoli attended the event celebrating the 50th anniversary ( 周年纪念) of the adventure, hosted by Salini Impregilo and the Museo Egizio (Egyptian Museum) in Turin, Italy.
On February 4, 2019, the rescue of the world heritage site was celebrated at an event held at the museum with Chief Executive Pietro Salini, Museo Egizio Director Christian Greco and UNESCO Regional Director Ana Luiza Thompson-Flores attending.
“Taking down two temples piece by piece, putting them back together elsewhere and perfectly rebuilding the landforms (地貌) around them was a great idea and showed us a new frontier (领域) for cultural protection,” said Salini. “It also showed the world that progress did not have to come at the expense of a world heritage site. Today, 50 years after this fantastic project, we remember with great admiration all those people from different countries and cultures, who, with their unique skills, achieved this impressive achievement for future generations.”
The work of moving the temples, in which Impregilo took part, was done with the support of 50 countries and some 2, 000 people in little more than 1,100 days.
This unique project is also being celebrated with the publication of “Nubiana”, a multimedia tome ( 多媒体巨著) that tells the story of the temples built more than 3,000 years ago in honour of the great Pharaoh Ramesses II. It also describes the engineering challenges of their rescue by international teamwork.
28. Why did Paoli leave Carrara at age 26?
A. To learn stone-cutting skills. B. To work on an international team.
C. To attend a 50th anniversary event. D. To fight against a rising flood in Egypt.
29. What can we learn from Salini's words in Paragraph 4?
A. He thought highly of the great project. B. He had a long wait for the anniversary.
C. He called on us to protect cultural heritage. D. He expected future generations to work together.
30. What do we know about “Nubiana”?
A. It is the fruit of international effort. B. It is part of the anniversary celebration.
C. It is in honour of the Pharaoh Ramesses II. D. It shows the engineering of building temples.
31. What is the text mainly about?
A. Impregilo's huge success as an organiser. B. Paoli's great achievement as a stone-cutter.
C. Two processes in the rescue of Abu Simbel. D. The celebration of the Abu Simbel rescue.
B 29. A 30. B 31. D
由第一段中的he is one of the workers with first-hand experience of this international adventure和第二段中的A green hand from the marble caves of Carrara who helped cut the temples of Abu Simbel into blocks可知,Luciano Paoli离开意大利卡拉拉是为了参加营救阿布·辛拜勒神庙的国际活动。
29. A。 由第四段中Pietro Salini说的a great idea、showed the world that progress did not have to come at the expense of a world heritage site、we remember with great admiration、this impressive achievement for future generations等可知,他在这段话中肯定并高度赞扬了拯救阿布·辛拜勒神庙项目。
30. B。 This unique project is also being celebrated with the publication of “Nubiana”可知,此次庆祝活动还包括出版了多媒体巨著——“Nubiana”。
D
While telling others your zodiac sign ( 星座), you are being evaluated ( 评估). Evaluations are being made about your luck, your personality, future development and how you will do in a given year. So what is the Chinese zodiac, exactly? It's a 12-year cycle labeled ( 标记) with animals, starting with a Rat and ending with a Pig. For example, if you were born in 2004, you are a Monkey.
The Chinese believe some animals are luckier than the others, such as the Dragon. Unlike in Western tradition, the Chinese Dragon stands for power, strength and wealth. It's everyone's dream to have a Dragon baby. Ma Yun's parents must have been very proud. And they are not the only ones. In 2012, the Year of the Dragon, the birthrate in China increased by about 5%. That means another one million more babies. With a traditional preference for baby boys, the boy-girl ratio that year was 120 to 100. When those Dragon boys grow up, they will face much more serious competition in love and job markets.
According to the BBC and Chinese government reports, January 2015 saw a peak of cesarean sections Why? That was the last month for the Year of the Horse. It's not because they like horses so much, it's because they try to avoid having unlucky Goat babies.
Tiger is another unwelcome animal, because of its dangerous and unstable ( 不稳定的) personality. Many Chinese places saw a considerable decline of birthrate during those years.
Perhaps one should consider zodiac in a different way, as those Tiger and Goat babies will face much less competition. Maybe they are the lucky ones. I went through the Forbes top 300 richest people in the world, and it's interesting to see the most unwelcome two animals, the Goat and Tiger, are at the top of the list, even higher than the Dragon. So maybe we should consider that it's much better to have less competition.
32. What can we infer from Paragraph 2?
A. Dragon boys are much more competitive when growing up.
B. There were about one million dragon babies in 2012.
C. There were 20% more boys than girls born in 2012.
D. Ma Yun is proud that he is a Dragon.
33. Why was there a peak of cesarean sections in January 2015?
A. People wanted to have Horse babies very much.
B. People considered Goat babies to be unlucky.
C. It's the first month of the year.
D. People tried to avoid dangers.
34. What does the underlined word “decline” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Drop. B. Need. C. Increase. D. Change.
35. What does the author say about Tiger and Goat babies?
A. They have fewer competitors.
B. They are difficult to get along with.
C. They will be more popular in job markets.
D. They will become richer than Dragon babies.
【答案】32.C 33.B 34.A 35.A
With a traditional preference for baby boys, the boy - girl ratio that year was 120 to
It's not because they like horses so much, it's because they try to avoid having unlucky Goat babies可知,人们选择在马年最后一个月剖腹生子的原因是他们不想生运气不好的羊宝宝。
34. A。 Tiger is another unwelcome animal, because of its dangerous and unstable personality可知,由于危险和情绪不稳,属相虎是另一种不受欢迎的生肖。
35. A。 由最后一段中的one should consider zodiac in a different way, as those Tiger and Goat babies will face much less competition可知,作者认为虎宝宝和羊宝宝将来会面临更少的竞争。
Everything was quiet at the Pantheon, in Rome, Italy, on the afternoon of April 27. That is, until the ground opened up outside the ancient temple.
Luckily, no one was hurt. 36 These stones were once part of a busy ancient street.
The sinkhole ( 落水洞) measures about 10 square feet. The ancient paving ( 铺路的) stones were eight feet below. 37 That temple was destroyed by fire, and then rebuilt around 128 CE. It is one of the best-preserved of Rome's ancient buildings.
38 In 2018, there were 175 of them in the city. The following year, there were another hundred. A sudden collapse ( 塌陷) can be dangerous. The largest sinkhole can swallow up cars and houses.
Sinkholes form when water wears away the rock under the streets. The city sits on soft rock that is easily destroyed. 39
“The main cause of a sinkhole in the city is the presence of an underground hole,” geologist Stefania Nisio said. She is working on a project to map Rome's sinkholes.
In 2018, city leaders put forth a plan to fix Rome's streets. 40 Sinkholes will continue to hold the possibility of new discoveries. What wonder of the past could the next sinkhole in Rome unearth?
A. That puts Rome on shaky ground.
B. However, progress on that has been slow.
C. This shows that Rome has a very long history.
D. The paving stones had been discovered in the 1990s.
E. Sinkholes have recently become a problem in Rome.
F. The sinkhole unearthed several 2,000-year-old paving stones.
G. Experts say they were laid around 27 to 25 BCE, when the Pantheon was first built at this site.
F 37. G 38. E 39. A 40. B
D项中的in the 1990s与本文时间不符,故选F项,且These stones指代F项中的paving stones。
37. G。 G项内容起承上启下作用,其中they指代上文中的The ancient paving stones,而下文中的That temple则指代G项中的the Pantheon。

60. featuring。
61. themselves。
62. who / that。 故填who/that。
63. which / that。 故填which/that。
64. as。 故填as。
65. admiration。

Promotion of Intangible Cultural Heritage on Campus
Last Friday, our school organized an event for students to experience and learn about intangible cultural heritage. The event was held from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm in our school hall and some famous masters were invited.
The masters showed and taught ten kinds of intangible cultural heritage such as the guqin, Chinese calligraphy, paper cutting, and kung fu. We not only watched wonderful shows, but learned basic skills.

I hurried into Lehman’s grocery store. I was there to buy my grandmother’s hearing aid batteries. More importantly, this was my chance to visit the love of my life — Artie.
I ran to the shelf he was on, and there he was, right where I last saw him: a grey little guy with a large mouth that fit perfectly over my shoulder as I hugged him tightly. I adored that stuffed dolphin. As I held Artie, Mrs. Lehman, who had always been kind to me, passed by and smiled knowingly, “Hugging that dolphin again, huh?”
But my brother, Rick, noticed I took a long time in Lehman’s, saying, “You are a thirteen-year-old girl now. You are supposed to be quicker. Next time, I will go with you.” Oh, great! My brother, Rick. He always laughed at me.
But I wouldn’t give up. So, as we walked into the store, I suggested to Rick that he get the batteries, since he was older. Then I headed towards Artie. There he was, awaiting me. I grabbed him and hugged him tightly. Just then, I heard Rick saying, “What in the world are you doing?”
“This is Artie,” I said. “I hug him every single time I come here. I can’t afford it so I hope he doesn’t get sold because I just love this little guy.” The look on Rick’s face was unreadable, but I knew deep down that he wasn’t going to make fun of me. In fact, a few times when he accompanied me to Lehman’s, he said, “go on and hug your dolphin, if it’s still there.”
One day, Rick was not home, so I went to Lehman’s alone. I went straight to Artie’s shelf. But he was gone. I searched every shelf but couldn’t find him. Suddenly, a voice from the counter interrupted my search.

It was Mrs. Lehman herself. She leaned over the counter, her eyes crinkling with warmth. “Looking for your little friend, dear? A young man bought him yesterday. Said something about ‘saving him from shelf limbo’.” My heart sank. Before I could ask more, she added, “He left this note for you.” Hand trembling, I unfolded the paper: “Check your bed at noon. — R.” Glancing at the clock — 11:55 a.m. — I bolted home, confusion and hope tangled in my chest.
To my surprise, I found a box lying on my bed. A familiar floppy fin peeked through the ribbon. Tears blurred my vision as I cradled Artie, his soft fur pressing against my cheek. Beneath him lay another note: “Even pirates need first mates. Don’t drown him in your tears. — Captain Rick.” Laughter bubbled through my sniffles. From the doorway, Rick grumbled, “You’re gonna wear his stitching out,” but his ears flushed pink. That night, Artie guarded my pillow, while Rick’s snores echoed from the next room — a gruff lullaby of unexpected love.

C
