Passage 1
Have you ever heard someone say, “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”, or give you advice about why it’s vital to start the day with a healthy breakfast? 1 Is it really that important? In a sense, it really matters.
Energy restoration
The word “breakfast” comes from “breaking the fast” — the idea of ending the period in which we didn’t eat during the night. The regeneration process that takes place while we sleep consumes some of our natural food reserves to heal our bodies. 2 So, in that way, a healthy breakfast makes sense.
Weight management
There are also many often-quoted studies which seem to link a state of obesity with skipping breakfast. 3 In a US study, 50,000 people were monitored over seven years, and those who ate a healthy breakfast were found to have a lower BMI, which seems to suggest that breakfast may indeed help people maintain a healthy weight.
Better brain function
4 Breakfast is also associated with improved brain function, including concentration and language. A review of 54 studies found that eating breakfast can improve memory, though the effects on other brain functions were inconclusive. However, one of the researchers says there is reasonable evidence that breakfast does improve concentration.
What’s most important is what we eat for breakfast. High-protein breakfasts have been found particularly effective in reducing food cravings and consumption later in the day. However, studies found that there is no agreement on what type of breakfast is healthier. 5
A.Breakfast helps us refill the exhausted stores.
B.Weight-loss is likely to cause them health problems.
C.Breakfast has been found to affect more than just weight.
D.Breakfast types don’t matter as much as simply eating something.
E.Thus, it is suggested that a healthy breakfast can regulate and lose weight.
F.Many people are recommended to manage their weight by skipping meals.
G.It seems that this feast, for many of us, is necessary for our day to start well.
【答案】1.G 2.A 3.E 4.C 5.D
1.根据上文“Have you ever heard someone say, “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”, or give you advice about why it’s vital to start the day with a healthy breakfast?”(你是否听过有人说,“早餐是一天中最重要的一餐”,或者给你建议为什么以健康的早餐开始新的一天是至关重要的?) It seems that this feast, for many of us, is necessary for our day to start well.(对于我们中的许多人来说,这场盛宴似乎是我们一天良好开始的必要条件。)
2.根据上文“The regeneration process that takes place while we sleep consumes some of our natural food reserves to heal our bodies.”(在我们睡觉时进行的再生过程会消耗一些我们的天然食物储备来治愈我们的身体。) Breakfast helps us refill the exhausted stores.(早餐帮助我们补充耗尽的储备。) 故选A项。
3.根据上文“There are also many often-quoted studies which seem to link a state of obesity with skipping breakfast.”(还有许多经常被引用的研究似乎将肥胖状态与不吃早餐联系起来。) Thus, it is suggested that a healthy breakfast can regulate and lose weight.(因此,建议健康的早餐可以调节和减肥。)
4.第三段中介绍了健康的早餐可以调节体重和减肥,设空句下文“Breakfast is also associated with improved brain function, including concentration and language.”(早餐还能改善大脑功能,包括注意力和语言能力。) Breakfast has been found to affect more than just weight.(研究发现,早餐影响的不仅仅是体重。)承上启下,句中“more than just weight”照应第三段内容。故选C项。
5.根据上文“However, studies found that there is no agreement on what type of breakfast is healthier.”(然而,研究发现,对于哪种类型的早餐更健康,人们并没有一致的看法。) Breakfast types don’t matter as much as simply eating something.(早餐的种类并不重要,重要的是吃点东西。)

Passage 1
Most of us have some resistance to conflict. Instead of dealing with issues directly, we try to be “nice” and end up spending lots of time talking to ourselves or others — complaining, feeling upset, thinking something that already happened over and over again. 1 Your health and self-esteem (自尊) may suffer and you think that you’re a victim. Below are three tips.
1)Speak objectively and make requests
You should use observations instead of labels. For example, in the case of the direct report, he or she is likely to be unhappy if you say, “I need to talk to you about how badly you come off in the meeting.” Instead, talk about what you observed: “I noticed in the last meeting your body language changed and you reacted strongly when the speaker said something wrong. I’d love to discuss how you could share your concerns in a better way.” 2
2)Keep a calm behavior
3 But it doesn’t. You can be yourself and remain kind, fair, and calm in these situations by being clear, focusing on the essence of the conflict, and making a request to ensure your problem is solved.
3) 4
Like any muscle you build, it takes practice before you can improve your abilities. 5 In the process of reflection, please ask yourself: What caused my anxiety and why does this feel personal? What request am I not making? Then, take action.
A.Start with baby steps.
B.But this can have serious costs.
C.Therefore, this action is bad for your health.
D.Then you can go further and ask for improvement.
E.Start with easier situations first and reflect how to address the conflict.
F.Try to do as many things as possible at once, and do each one perfectly.
G.People who shy away from conflict often think that it has to look aggressive.
【答案】1.B 2.D 3.G 4.A 5.E
1.根据空前内容“Instead of dealing with issues directly, we try to be “nice” and end up spending lots of time talking to ourselves or others—complaining, feeling upset, thinking something that already happened over and over again.(我们不是直接处理问题,而是试图表现得“友善”,结果花费大量时间与自己或他人交谈——抱怨、感到难过、反复思考已经发生的事情。)” B“But this can have serious costs.(但这可能会付出严重的代价)”能够承接上文,指出逃避冲突的后果,且“this”指代上文的逃避冲突的行为,符合语境。故选B。
2.根据空前内容“For example, in the case of the direct report, he or she is likely to be unhappy if you say, “I need to talk to you about how badly you come off in the meeting.” Instead, talk about what you observed: “I noticed in the last meeting your body language changed and you reacted strongly when the speaker said something wrong. I’d love to discuss how you could share your concerns in a better way.”(例如,在直接报告的情况下,如果你说,“我需要和你谈谈你在会议上表现得有多糟糕。”他或她可能会不高兴。相反,谈论你观察到的情况:“我注意到在上次会议上,你的肢体语言发生了变化,当演讲者说错话时,你反应强烈。我很想讨论一下,你如何能以更好的方式表达你的担忧。”)”可知,此句举例说明如何客观表达并做出请求,即先描述观察到的情况,然后提出希望对方改进的方面,此处应该承接上文,说明这样做的好处,即可以进一步要求对方改进。选项D“Then you can go further and ask for improvement.(然后你可以进一步要求改进。)”
3.根据下文内容“But it doesn’t. You can be yourself and remain kind, fair, and calm in these situations by being clear, focusing on the essence of the conflict, and making a request to ensure your problem is solved.(但事实并非如此。在这些情况下,你可以保持真实的自己,保持友善、公正和冷静,通过表达清晰、关注冲突的本质并提出请求来确保你的问题得到解决。)”可知,该句与前一句构成转折关系,指出虽然面对冲突时人们可能会认为必须表现得有攻击性,但实际上并非如此,人们可以保持冷静和理智。选项G“People who shy away from conflict often think that it has to look aggressive.(回避冲突的人往往认为它必须看起来有攻击性。)”
根据下文“Like any muscle you build, it takes practice before you can improve your abilities.(就像你锻炼任何肌肉一样,在提高你的能力之前需要练习。)” 故选A。
5.根据下文内容“In the process of reflection, please ask yourself: What caused my anxiety and why does this feel personal? What request am I not making? Then, take action.(在反思的过程中,请问自己:是什么引起了我的焦虑,为什么这让我觉得是针对个人的?我没有提出什么要求?然后,采取行动。)”可推测,空处提到我们要反思。选项E“Start with easier situations first and reflect how to address the conflict.(先从简单的情况开始,并反思如何解决冲突。)”中的“start”和下文的“then”形成一致;而“reflect”也和下文的“In the process of reflection”相符。故选E。
Passage 2
Words of Support
When your friends have doubts about their work or think their latest idea is second-rate, you’ve probably felt unsure about just how to support. But being there for people you love can be a positive experience for both sides. 1 Read on for tips on how to show your support.
Be positive. One way to offer support is to remind your friends of any previous occasions when they doubted themselves or their writing but their English teacher thought it was great and gave them a top mark. If they’re still worried, you could highlight what you like in the work. Be as specific as you can about these areas. 7
Be supportive. The golden rule is to be supportive and to help people grow and develop. 2 This provides the person with something concrete that they can change and means they’re less likely to feel they’re being unfairly criticised or that there’s nothing they can do to make things better.
Be patient. 3 This can help them feel valued. If someone hasn’t requested your opinions but they seem unsure of what they’ve done and you’re familiar with the subject, you could ask if they’d be OK to hear your thoughts.
4 Part of being supportive and honest is appreciating when people treat you with the same respect and learning from what they know and the words of encouragement they share with you.
A.Be receptive.
B.Be straightforward.
C.A large part of this is giving constructive feedback.
D.What can you do to help them change their attitude to work?
E.How can you make the experience pleasant and positive for you both?
F.Give others time to respond and make sure you listen to their opinions.
G.This will show that you’ve paid attention and you want them to do well.
【答案】1.E 2.G 3.C 4.F 5.A
1.前文“But being there for people you love can be a positive experience for both sides.(但是,与你爱的人不离左右对双方来说都是一种积极的体验。)”讲述了在自己爱的人身边对双方都是一种积极的体验,后文“Read on for tips on how to show your support.(继续阅读有关如何表示支持的建议。)”
2.前文“If they’re still worried, you could highlight what you like in the work. Be as specific as you can about these areas.(如果他们仍然担心,你可以强调你在工作中喜欢的部分。尽可能具体地介绍这些地方。)”讲述了你可以具体地说明你欣赏他们工作的某些地方,空处应是讲述这么做的好处,G项“这将表明你已经注意到了,你希望他们做得好。”符合题意。故选G。
3.前文“The golden rule is to be supportive and to help people grow and develop.(黄金法则是给予支持,帮助人们成长和发展。)”
根据后文“Part of being supportive and honest is appreciating when people treat you with the same respect and learning from what they know and the words of encouragement they share with you.(给予支持和诚实的一部分就是当人们以同样的尊重对待你时表示感激,并且从他们知道的东西和他们与你分享的鼓励话语中学习。)” 故选A。

Call up friends
Electronic communication is great, but there is nothing like hearing your friend’s voice to give you a lift. Make a point to call up friends and check in with them. 3 . Just a few minutes every month can make a difference in your friendship.
Give meaningful gifts
Put some thought into the gifts you give a friend. 4 . In fact, often the smallest but most thoughtful ones are the biggest hit.

Passage 1
ANIMAL BODY LANGUAGE
Human beings are not only ones who communicate. 1 Here is a quick look at how some of our animal friends send messages to us and to each other.
2 When a dog is happy, its ears will stand up and its eyes will be wide open. The dog will start barking. moving its tail, and running around in circles or jumping up and down to show you that it wants to play. A dog that is afraid will lay on its back and close its eyes. The dog may show its teeth and lower its body so that it is close to the ground. The dog may also shake, and it will put its tail between its legs. When a dog is angry, its main body language is showing its teeth and growling (低声叫). The dog will try making itself look as big as possible. The tail will stand straight out from the body.
Elephants also use noises and body language to express themselves. An elephant’s sense of smell is highly developed. An elephant can smell how another elephant is feeling and even tell if it is sick. The elephant’s nose, or trunk, is also used to make noises and to welcome other elephants. Different noises have a variety of meanings they can mean “I am hungry”, “I am angry”, or “Good to see you!” 3 If an elephant spreads its ears, it means “Watch out! “To show friendship, elephants will touch each other with their trunks and stand close to each other, putting their heads together.
Dolphins are social animals. 4 An angry dolphin will sometimes hit its tail on the surface of the water. The movement and noise let other dolphins know that something is wrong. If a dolphin wants to send a message over a long distance, or if it wants to show how strong it is, it will jump high out of the water and land on its side, making a loud noise. A dolphin’s favorite activity is leaping into the air while playing with its friends. When dolphins are tired and need to rest, they will swim in small groups close to the surface. 5

B.If you see them doing this, you should not disturb them.
C.An elephant’s body language includes ear signals and gestures.
D.They live in groups and love showing each other their feelings.
E.Dogs use sounds, body movements, and their tails to communicate.
F.If an elephant senses its partner is falling sick, it will also make a noise.
G.Animals use body language to tell each other how they feel and what they think

Passage 1
The US. has over 400 national parks across the country. If you thought national parks were just a common place to visit for recreational activities, you might want to think again. Here are some reasons why national parks are great.
Biodiversity (生物多样性) like nowhere else
National parks are often chosen to protect threatened or unique ecosystems and geography. It is no surprise that parks are some of the most biodiverse places in the US. with strict laws about hunting, fishing and development. 1 .
An unbreakable connection to nature
2 . Nature encourages physical activity, recreation and calmness, and has even been shown to reduce depression (沮丧). National parks provide people with natural spaces to visit and chances to connect with nature.
3
National parks contain forested areas that not only protect water sources, but also help stabilize (稳固) the surrounding land. This can save lives and infrastructure (基础设施) by preventing landslides, avalanches and erosion. These areas also reduce floods by preserving wetlands. 4 .
Parks improve the economy
Parks bring visitors to small rural communities that otherwise would never see the same economic activity. These “gateway” communities benefit through jobs in hotels, restaurants, gift shops and within the park as tour guides. In 2015, 4 million visitors at Yellowstone National Park generated (产生) nearly $500 million dollars in spending, leading to 7,735 jobs and $225 million in income for workers. 5 .
A.Parks help power America
B.Parks reduce natural disasters
C.A park is a safe place for threatened species
D.Yellowstone National Park is expected to see increased fires
E.Throughout the country, national parks provide 306,000 direct jobs
F.Finally, protected habitats along the coast reduce flooding, sea-level rise and so on
G.Studies show that spending time in nature is good for your physical and mental health
1.根据上文“National parks are often chosen to protect threatened or unique ecosystems and geography. It is no surprise that parks are some of the most biodiverse places in the US. with strict laws about hunting, fishing and development.(通常国家公园被选择用来保护受威胁的或独特的生态系统和地理。毫无疑问,公园是美国生物多样性最丰富的地方之一,有着严格的狩猎、捕鱼和开发方面的法律)”及本段小标题“Biodiversity like nowhere else(生物多样性独一无二)”可知,本段讲述国家公园以法律的形式对生态进行保护,尤其对濒危或珍稀物种的保护。由此可知,C. A park is a safe place for threatened species(公园是受威胁物种的安全之地)顺承上文,话题一致,其中threatened是原词复现。故选C项。
2.根据下文中的“Nature encourages physical activity, recreation and calmness, and has even been shown to reduce depression (沮丧). National parks provide people with natural spaces to visit and chances to connect with nature.(大自然促进身体活动、娱乐和冷静,甚至被证明可以减少抑郁。国家公园为人们提供了参观自然的空间和与自然接触的机会)”可知,本段主要介绍了国家公园对人们健康的好处,人与自然的联系。由此可知,G. Studies show that spending time in nature is good for your physical and mental health(研究表明,大自然中度过一段时间对你的身心健康有益)符合语境,话题一致。
根据下文中的“National parks contain forested areas that not only protect water sources, but also help stabilize (稳固) the surrounding land. This can save lives and infrastructure (基础设施) by preventing landslides, avalanches and erosion. These areas also reduce floods by preserving wetlands.(国家公园包含森林区域,不仅保护水源,而且有助于稳定周围的土地。这可以通过防止山体滑坡、雪崩和侵蚀来挽救生命和基础设施。这些地区还通过保护湿地来减少洪水)”可知,本段主要介绍了国家公园有助于减少自然灾害所产生的危害,由此可知,B. Parks reduce natural disasters(公园减少自然灾害)可以概括本段的主旨大意。故选B项。
4.根据上文“This can save lives and infrastructure (基础设施) by preventing landslides, avalanches and erosion. These areas also reduce floods by preserving wetlands.(这可以通过防止山体滑坡、雪崩和侵蚀来挽救生命和基础设施。这些地区还通过保护湿地来减少洪水)”可知,本段主要举例证明国家公园的存在可以减少自然灾害的例子。由此可知,F. Finally, protected habitats along the coast reduce flooding, sea-level rise and so on(最后,沿海受保护的栖息地减少了洪水、海平面上升等问题)顺承上文,列举又一个减少自然灾害的例子,与前面例子并列。故选F项。
5.根据上文“Parks bring visitors to small rural communities that otherwise would never see the same economic activity. These “gateway” communities benefit through jobs in hotels, restaurants, gift shops and within the park as tour guides. In 2015, 4 million visitors at Yellowstone National Park generated (产生) nearly $500 million dollars in spending, leading to 7,735 jobs and $225 million in income for workers.(公园将游客带到小的农村社区,否则这些社区将永远看不到这样的经济活动。这些“门户”社区受益于酒店、餐馆、礼品店和公园内导游的工作。2015年,黄石国家公园的400万游客创造了近5亿美元的消费,创造了7735个就业岗位,为工人创造了2.25亿美元的收入)”及参考小标题“Parks improve the economy(公园改善经济)”可知,本段主要讲国家公园的存在也促进国家经济的发展,尤其产生了很多就业机会,前面介绍仅黄石公园就创造了7735个岗位。由此可知,E. Throughout the country, national parks provide 306,000 direct jobs.
Passage 1
Today, young people have mostly grown up in the world of the Internet. 1 But face-to-face interaction is a challenge that needs to be overcome. That is true especially for the fresher who is on the way to starting a new career. Here are four tips to practice if you want to present a more trustworthy image.
1. Tilt (歪) your head
If you want to show trust, agreement or interest, turn your head to look at others. 2 It works well when you're negotiating or having an argument with others. It can show understanding and make people less defensive.
2. Intensity of eye contact
Keeping eye contact during a talk can make you more confident and trustworthy. 3 About 70% of the talk time with eye contact is good. If you always look into someone's eyes, they might think you're unfriendly.
3. Open the palm (手掌) of the hands
People who open their hands are trustworthy. This explains why leaders often show their palms when talking to listeners. 4
4. Glove handshake
“Glove handshake” (put your left palm on the back of the other person's right hand while shaking hands) is a sign of warmth, trust and kindness. 5 The higher it is on the other person's right arm, the closer you might be to them.
A.They might just be in a casual state.
B.On the contrary, liars often hide their hands.
C.When you shake hands, notice where your left hand is.
D.However, this does not mean that you have to stare at them.
E.That action shows you are ready to listen and will not debate.
F.This gesture can reveal their personality even though they do not intend to do that.
G.Therefore, digital communication has become the primary way they communicate with others.
1.根据上文“Today, young people have mostly grown up in the world of the Internet.(如今,年轻人大多在互联网的世界里长大)”可知上文提到年轻人大多在互联网的世界里长大,可推理出接下来应该说互联网对他们交流方式的影响,与G项“Therefore, digital communication has become the primary way they communicate with others.(因此,数字通信已经成为他们与他人交流的主要方式)”逻辑连贯,是前文内容的合理延伸,故选G项。
2.根据上文“If you want to show trust, agreement or interest, turn your head to look at others.(如果你想表现出信任、认同或兴趣,把头转向看着别人)”可知上文说的是把头转向别人,以表现出信任、认同或兴趣,可推理出此处要进一步说明这个动作所传达的含义,与E项“That action shows you are ready to listen and will not debate.(那个动作表明你准备好倾听并且不会争辩)”意思契合,是对前文动作意义的阐释,故选E项。
3.根据上文“Keeping eye contact during a talk can make you more confident and trustworthy.(在交谈中保持眼神交流能让你更自信、更值得信赖。)”以及下文“About 70% of the talk time with eye contact is good. If you always look into someone's eyes, they might think you're unfriendly.(大约 70% 的交谈时间保持眼神交流是好的。如果你总是盯着别人的眼睛,他们可能会认为你不友好。)” 可知这里要强调在交谈中保持眼神交流但不能一直盯着对方,与D项“However, this does not mean that you have to stare at them.(然而,这并不意味着你必须一直盯着他们)”表意相符,起到了承上启下的作用,故选D项。
4.根据上文“People who open their hands are trustworthy. This explains why leaders often show their palms when talking to listeners.(张开手掌的人是值得信赖的。这就解释了为什么领导者在与听众交谈时经常展示他们的手掌。)”可知上文提到了张开手掌的人是值得信赖的,领导者在与听众交谈时经常展示他们的手掌,可推理出下文应进行对比,从反面来说明将手藏起来的情况,与B项“On the contrary, liars often hide their hands.(相反,说谎者经常藏起他们的手)” 形成对比,符合逻辑,故选B项。
5.根据下文“The higher it is on the other person's right arm, the closer you might be to them.(它在对方右臂上的位置越高,你可能与他们越亲近。)”
Passage 2
It is not always easy to keep a conversation going in English. You might not be sure about what to say. Or maybe you are afraid that your pronunciation is not good. So how can we continue a conversation in English? 11
Listen and follow up
First, remember the importance of listening. Listen to the other person attentively, so that you can ask a follow-up question. For example, let’s say the other person tells you, “I just got back from a trip to Canada.” 1 Where did you go in Canada? What was your favorite place there?
How was the food there?
Avold simple “yes” or “no” questions
If you want to keep a conversation going, it’s a good idea to ask questions that cannot be answered with a simple “yes” or “no”. If the other person asks you a “yes” or “no” question, try to give a longer answer to help keep the conversation going.
For example, a friend might ask, “Hey, have you seen the new Star Wars movie?” You could just answer, “No, I haven’t.” 2 You could answer: “No, but I plan to see it soon. How about you?”
3
Do not worry about your pronunciation. If your pronunciation is a little different, the other person will still understand your message if you try speaking slowly and clearly. When you are traveling in an English-speaking country and have some free time, be brave and speak in English with someone who does not look too busy. 15
A.Or, you could say more.
B.Be brave and practice often.
C.You can try the following ways.
D.Why did you choose the destination?
E.Then you may make a new friend.
F.Correct your pronunciation if possible.
G.You can continue with a question using where, what, why, or how.
【答案】1.C 2.G 3.A 4.B 5.E
1.上文“So how can we continue a conversation in English?(所以我们如何维持一段英语对话呢?)”
2.根据上文“Listen to the other person attentively, so that you can ask a follow-up question.(仔细倾听对方,这样你就可以问一个后续的问题)”可知,要认真听别人说什么以便提出后续的问题,空前“For example, let’s say the other person tells you, “I just got back from a trip to Canada.”(例如,假设别人跟你说,“我刚从加拿大旅行归来。”)” 符合语境,与后文的两个问题“Where did you go in Canada? What was your favorite place there?(你去加拿大哪里?你最喜欢哪个地方?)”相呼应。故选G项。
3.根据上文“You could just answer, “No, I haven’t.”(你可以直接回答:“不,我没有。”)”可知,针对别人提出的问题可以直接回答“是”或“不”,结合后文“You could answer: “No, but I plan to see it soon. How about you?”(你可以回答:“没有,但是我打算尽快去看。你呢?”)”可知,此处是提供另一种回答,比起回答“是”或“不”多说一点,故A项“或者,你可以多说点”引起下文。故选A项。
4.空处是段落主题句,根据本段中“Do not worry about your pronunciation.(不要担心你的发音)”及“be brave and speak in English with someone who does not look too busy(勇敢些,和那些看起来不太忙的人用英语交谈)”可知,本段建议要勇敢说出来,多练习。
5.根据上文“When you are traveling in an English-speaking country and have some free time, be brave and speak in English with someone who does not look too busy.(当你在讲英语的国家旅行时,有空就勇敢地跟那些看不上不太忙的人士对话)”可知,在说英语的国家旅行时,可以找陌生人对话,E项“然后你可能会交到一个新朋友”承接上文,讲述上文做法可能的结果。故选E项。
Passage 3
As with most teaching methods, online learning also has its own negatives. Understanding them will help create strategies for more efficiently delivering the lessons, ensuring a good learning journey for students. So, what are the disadvantages of online learning?
1
For many students, one of the biggest challenges of online learning is the struggle with focusing on the screen for long periods of time. There’s a great chance for students to be easily attracted by social media or other sites. Therefore, it is vital for the teachers to keep their online classes interesting and interactive. It will help students stay focused on the lesson.
Technology issues
2 While Internet coverage has grown over the past few years, in smaller cities and towns, a consistent connection with great speed is a problem. Without a consistent Internet connection for students or teachers, there can be a lack of continuity in learning for the child. This is harmful to the education process.
Sense of isolation
Students can learn a lot from being in the company of their peers. 3 This often results in a sense of isolation for the students. In this situation, it is important that the school should allow for other forms of communication between students and teachers. 19
Teacher training
Online learning requires teachers to have a basic understanding of using digital forms of learning. 4 Very often, teachers have a very basic understanding of technology. Sometimes, they don’t even have the necessary resources or tools to conduct online classes. To solve this, it is important for schools to invest in training teachers with the latest technology updates.
A.Screen time management
B.Inability to focus on screens
C.Yet this is not always the case.
D.This increase in screen time is one of the biggest concerns.
E.However, in an online class, there is little physical interaction.
F.Another key challenge of online classes is Internet connectivity.
G.This can include online messages, emails and video conferencing.
1.根据本段内容“For many students, one of the biggest challenges of online learning is the struggle with focusing on the screen for long periods of time. It will help students stay focused on the lesson.(对于许多学生来说,在线学习最大的挑战之一就是难以长时间专注于屏幕。学生很容易被社交媒体或其他网站所吸引。因此,对教师来说,保持在线课程的趣味性和互动性是至关重要的。这样可以帮助学生集中注意力上课)”可知,本段的主旨是在线学习无法专注于屏幕。故B选项“无法专注于屏幕”符合题意,可以作为小标题,故选B。
2.根据后文“While Internet coverage has grown over the past few years, in smaller cities and towns, a consistent connection with great speed is a problem. Without a consistent Internet connection for students or teachers, there can be a lack of continuity in learning for the child. This is harmful to the education process.(虽然互联网覆盖范围在过去几年有所扩大,但在较小的城市和城镇,高速的持续连接是一个问题。如果学生或老师没有持续的互联网连接,孩子的学习就会缺乏连续性。这对教育过程是有害的)”可知,后文主要说明了互联网连接所存在的问题。故F选项“在线课程的另一个关键挑战是互联网连接”符合语境,故选F。
3.根据上文“Students can learn a lot from being in the company of their peers.(学生们可以从同伴的陪伴中学到很多东西)”以及后文“This often results in a sense of isolation for the students.(这往往会导致学生产生一种孤立感)”可知,本句与上文构成转折,指出在线课程存在的问题。
4.根据上文“In this situation, it is important that the school should allow for other forms of communication between students and teachers.(在这种情况下,学校允许学生和老师之间进行其他形式的交流是很重要的)”可知,本句为本段最后一句,应承接上文说明其它交流形式有哪些。
5.根据上文“Online learning requires teachers to have a basic understanding of using digital forms of learning.(在线学习要求教师对使用数字学习形式有基本的了解)”以及后文“Very often, teachers have a very basic understanding of technology.(通常情况下,教师对技术只有非常基本的了解)”可知,本句与上文构成转折,指出教师对数字学习形式的了解情况并不是很充分的情况。
Passage 4
Great parks require great designs. Nearly all communities have some public spaces and features. These places may be appreciated, but they certainly are not the places they could have been with the application of solid design principles. 1
Inclusive and welcoming. Great parks make you feel good when you get there. 2 Regardless of your age and cultural background, you know you are in a public space that has been designed with you in mind, and you have little hesitation to enter and enjoy yourself.
Sustainable and resilient (有弹性的). Great parks represent environmentally responsible development strategies. They are great places for people, migratory birds, and soil organisms. 3
Beautiful. 4 The design elements that make something beautiful include line, color, and form, organized to create balance, unity, rhythm, and emphasis. Sit on a beach watching the sunset, you recognize beauty, and it refreshes your soul.
5 Great parks do not ignore their physical or social context but directly respond to it. A design process for a new park set within a neighborhood of immigrants will work with these park users to understand their needs and desires. For instance, a park next to an elementary school must recognize the young users next door and should be designed to maximize its playability by students.
A.Sensitive to context.
B.Flexible to evolve over time.
C.Great parks must be filled with attractive elements.
D.They are open in their design and welcoming in their attitude.
E.They are designed with ecological processes in mind and integrate them beautifully.

Passage 5
Every day, in hundreds of ordinary situations, actions speak far louder than words. We talk with our mouth, but we communicate with our facial expressions, our tone of voice and our whole body.
1 When we can read what others are saying unconsciously, we can deal with things — at work and at home before they become problems.
By understanding how to use body language, you can communicate more effectively. Here is how: 2 Throughout the day, notice details about the way you speak, gesture and move. When standing, keep your shoulders straight, your body open and your weight balanced on both feet.
Work on your handshake. 3 The handshake most likely to show confidence is firm and dry, with strong but not too much pressure.
Use eye contact. Eye contact is very important in forming an impression of someone. You should have the ability to keep direct eye contact if you want to be taken seriously. But some people feel uncomfortable when it is too strong. 29
Be yourself. Nonverbal (非言语的) messages come from deep inside you, from your own sense of self-respect. If you are comfortable with yourself, it shows. 4 They always give others a deep impression.
A.Use hand gestures carefully.
B.Pay attention to your body-talk.
C.A mirror can be useful to examine facial expressions.
D.People who know who they are have a relaxed way of talking and moving.
E.In the business world, the handshake shows important messages about power.
F.Understanding body language is one of the most useful skills you can develop.
G.To avoid this problem, change your focus so that you look at somewhere between the eyes and the chin.
We talk with our mouth, but we communicate with our facial expressions, our tone of voice and our whole body.(我们用我们的嘴巴讲话,同时我们还使用我们的面部表情、语调和我们的身体进行交流)可知,我的肢体语言在我们的日常交流中起着重要的作用。 F. Understanding body language is one of the most useful skills you can develop.(理解肢体语言是你可以培养的最有用的技能之一)符合语境。故选F。
Throughout the day, notice details about the way you speak, gesture and move. When standing, keep your shoulders straight, your body open and your weight balanced on both feet.(一整天,注意你说话、手势和动作的细节。 B. Pay attention to your body-talk.(注意你的肢体语言)符合语境。故选B。
E. In the Business world, the handshake shows important messages about power.(在商界,握手是关于权力的重要信息)是与握手有关的内容,与本段主题一致。故选E。
But some people feel uncomfortable when it is too strong.(但是当眼神交流太强烈的时候,人们会感觉很不舒服)可知,我们就要调整眼神交流的方式。 G. To avoid this problem, change your focus so that you look at somewhere between the eyes and the chin.(为避免这个问题,要改变眼神的焦点,要看着眼睛和下巴之间的地方)正是调整眼神交流的方式。故选G。
Nonverbal (非言语的) messages come from deep inside you, from your own sense of self-respect. If you are comfortable with yourself, it shows.(做你自己。 D. People who know who they are have a relaxed way of talking and moving.(那些对自己有明确了解的人在说话和做事的时候,都有很放松的方式)与本段主题一致。选项中的know who they are与Be yourself及your own sense of self-respect相对应。故选D。
Passage 6
Home gardens produce delicious food. But that’s not their main virtue.
Imagine a plate holding two strawberries, identical in appearance. One came out of a super-market box, probably harvested unripe. 1 The other was picked from a garden minutes before being eaten. The first one will probably taste like a slightly sour grape while the second is likely to be sweet and rich in flavour.
Supermarket strawberries are not entirely without advantages. They are convenient and available in the northern globe even in February. But the two berries differ from each other in the same way that hearing Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata in a concert hall differs from listening to it on an old tape. 32
Other people, however, believe gardening a waste of time. But the same could be said of cooking. There are cheap and decent restaurants around, so why bother to make your own meals? 2 They mistake the product for the purpose.
Actually, a garden, especially in the early years, can produce little but frustration(挫败感). New gardeners may plant the wrong crops for their soil. Rabbits have an annoying habit of taking single bites of vegetable, then leaving the rest to go bad. 3 No matter. The real joy of gardening is the time spent doing it. The deepest pleasure — as with cooking, writing, bringing up children or almost anything worthwhile — is in the work itself.A gardener’s memories revolve not around the food produced, but around long afternoons with hands in the dirt.
4
A.No one can ever avoid this hard stage.
B.So why don’t we start home gardening for delicious food?
C.This might explain why many people desire a home garden.
D.These people misunderstand the ultimate appeal of gardening.
E.By the time it reached the plate it may have been off the plant for days.
F.To garden is to patiently and lovingly help life grow, in the ground and above it.
G.And even expert gardeners can lose a season’s harvest to uncooperative weather.
1.上文“One came out of a supermarket box, probably harvested unripe.(一个来自从超市的箱子,可能是未成熟的收获)”和下文的“The other was picked from a garden minutes before being eaten. ”说明这颗草莓在未成熟时就摘下来了,推断出这颗草莓等待了好几天在成熟后才能装入盘子进行食用,E项“当它被放到盘子里的时候,它可能已经离开植物几天了”,承接上下文,符合语境。故选E项。
2.上文“But the two berries differ from each other in the same way that hearing Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata in a concert hall differs from listening to it on a old tape.(但这两种浆果彼此不同,就像在音乐厅听贝多芬的《月光奏鸣曲》不同于用旧录音带听一样)”可知,这里讲述了家庭花园的优点。
3.上文“Other people, however, believe gardening a waste of time. But the same could be said of cooking. There are cheap and decent restaurants around, so why bother to make your own meals?(然而,其他人认为园艺是浪费时间。但烹饪也是如此。周围有便宜又体面的餐馆,所以为什么要自己做饭呢?)”及下文“They mistake the product for the purpose.(他们错误地将产品用于目的)”可知人们对园艺是存在误解的,D项“这些人们误解了园艺的终极魅力”, 承上启下,符合语境。故选D项。
4.上文“Actually, a garden, especially in the early years, can produce little but frustration(挫败感). (确实,一个园子尤其是在早些年的时候,产出很少而且会有挫败感)”,G项 “即使是专业的园也会因为不配合的天气而损失一季的收成”是对上文产出少这个内容的举例说明。故选G项。
5.上文“The deepest pleasure-as with cooking, writing, bringing up children or almost anything worthwhile-is in the work itself. A gardener’s memories revolve not around the food produced, but around long afternoons with hands in the dirt.(最深层的乐趣——就像烹饪、 写作、抚养孩子或任何有意义的事情一样——在于做这件事本身。园丁的记忆不是围绕着生产的食物,而是围绕着长时间的下午,双手沾满泥土)”可知,这里讲述了做园艺活的乐趣,F项“做园艺活就是耐心地和爱护地帮助那些地上和地下的生命茁壮成长”是对做园艺这件事情意义的升华,是对上文内容的承接。故选F项。
Passage 7
What is culture? Culture is too complex to define in simple terms. 1 One is that culture is a total pattern of behaviour that is consistent in its components. Another fundamental is that culture is learned behaviour. The third is that culture is behaviour that is shared by a group of people.
To understand the culture of a particular country or region, one could examine its components, among which are material culture, language, and social organization. Material culture includes the tools and symbols in a society, not including those physical things found in nature, unless they have undergone some change or have been given meaning by people. 2 The way we consume and what we consume are heavily influenced by material culture.
3 Linked with all other aspects of culture, it reflects the nature and values of that culture. Industrialized societies have a rich vocabulary for commercial and industrial activities, while less industrialized societies may have richer vocabularies for matters important to their societies. The Eskimos in Alaska have many words to describe snow whereas English has only one general term.
Social organization differs somewhat from society to society. The primary kind of community association is based on blood ties. 4 It provides mutual protection, psychological support and a kind of economic insurance or social security for its members. The term “brothers” in Zaire includes those whom we call cousins and uncles.
Cultural analysis serves a variety of purposes. Understanding the various dimensions and their inter-relatedness helps promote cross-cultural awareness. 40
A.Language is the most obvious difference between cultures.
B.Some scholars even suggest that it is useless to try.
C.The values represented within a culture can also change with the passing of time.
D.However, there are certain agreed-on fundamentals that can be easily identified.
E.In many developing countries, the extended family fulfils several social and economic roles.
F.For example, a mouse running on a street is not part of a culture, but the Mickey Mouse is.
G.It leads on to the promotion of goodwill, social and economic planning and harmony between social groupings or societies.
【答案】1.D 2.F 3.A 4.E 5.G
1.根据后文“One is that culture is a total pattern of behaviour that is consistent in its components. Another fundamental is that culture is learned behaviour. The third is that culture is behaviour that is shared by a group of people.(一是文化是一种行为的整体模式,其组成部分是一致的。另一个基本原则是,文化是后天习得的行为。第三,文化是一群人共同的行为)”可知,这三种基本原则正是对D项“However, there are certain agreed-on fundamentals that can be easily identified.(然而,在一些容易确定的基本原则上存在某些共识)”中“there are certain agreed-on fundamentals”的详细说明。故选D。
2.前文“Material culture includes the tools and symbols in a society, not including those physical things found in nature, unless they have undergone some change or have been given meaning by people.(物质文化包括社会中的工具和符号,不包括自然界中的物质,除非它们经历了一些变化或被人们赋予了意义)”在讲解物质文化包括的内容,F项“For example, a mouse running on a street is not part of a culture, but the Mickey Mouse is.(例如,街上的老鼠不是文化的一部分,但米老鼠却是)”是对物质文化的举例。故选F。
3.根据第二段的第一句“To understand the culture of a particular country or region, one could examine its components, among which are material culture, language, and social organization.(要了解一个特定国家或地区的文化,可以考察其组成部分,其中包括物质文化、语言和社会组织)”可知,其后的内容是按照物质文化、语言和社会组织三方面进行阐述的,设空处前一段已对物质文化做了解释,按照文章逻辑此段内容应为语言,A项“Language is the most obvious difference between cultures.(语言是不同文化之间最明显的差异)”从整体上概述了语言特征,且从后文中出现的“vocabulary”和“words”也可看出,本段在讲述语言。故选A。.
4.后文“It provides mutual protection, psychological support and a kind of economic insurance or social security for its members.(它为其成员提供相互保护、心理支持和经济保险或社会保障)”中的“mutual protection, psychological support and a kind of economic insurance or social security for its members”是对E项“In many developing countries, the extended family fulfils several social and economic roles.(在许多发展中国家,大家庭承担着多种社会和经济角色)”中“several social and economic roles”的列举。故选E。
5.根据前文“Understanding the various dimensions and their inter-relatedness helps promote cross-cultural awareness.(了解各方面及其相互关系有助于提高跨文化意识)”可知,了解文化的构成是有好处的,G项“It leads on to the promotion of goodwill, social and economic planning and harmony between social groupings or societies.(它促进善意、社会和经济规划以及社会团体或社会之间的和谐)”中的it指代“了解文化构成”,承接前文,继续说这样可以带来的好处。故选G。

It’s definitely a positive step if you’re already making the time to exercise. With such busy lives, it can be hard to try and find the time to work out. 1 Working out in the morning provides additional benefits beyond being physically fit.
●Your productivity is improved. Working out in the morning serves as a personal compass, guiding you through the challenges and demands of your day. Exercising makes you more awake and ready to handle whatever is ahead of you for the day. 12
●Your metabolism (新陈代谢) gets a head start. 2 If you work out in the mornings, then you will be getting the calorie burning benefits for the whole day, not in your sleep.
● 3 Studies found that people who woke up early for exercise slept better than those who exercised in the evening. Exercise energizes you, so it is more difficult to relax and have a peaceful sleep when you are very excited.
●You will stick to your diet. If you work out bright and early in the morning, you will be more likely to stick to healthy food choices throughout the day. 4 You will want to continue to focus on positive choices.

G.For example, older consumers may prefer products that cater to their health and comfort, while younger consumers might favor technology and fashion items
【答案】1.A 2.D 3.B 4.F 5.C
1.根据空后内容“but with a little awareness and effort, we can make improvements that will help us achieve our financial objectives. (但只要有一点意识和努力,我们就能做出改进,这将有助于我们实现财务目标。)”中的“but”表示转折,暗示空处提到的是与之相反的情况,即改变某些东西是困难的,需要意识和努力。选项A“It might be challenging to change these habits(改变这些习惯可能具有挑战性。)” 故填A。
2.根据空前内容“Taking a careful look at your existing spending habits is one of the first steps in improving your money habits.(仔细审视你现有的消费习惯是改善金钱习惯的第一步。)” 而空后提到“It can make you realize the potential issues on your spending habits, which help you identify areas where you can adjust your spending patterns.(它可以让你意识到你的消费习惯中可能存在的问题。)”。 D“This involves tracking all your spending for a month and then analyzing the data(这包括跟踪你一个月的所有开支,然后分析这些数据。)”中的“this”指的正是“Taking a careful look at your existing spending habits”,与上下文内容相符。故选D。
根据下文内容“Having a specific objective in mind will help you keep motivated and focused, whether it’s saving for a down payment on a home, removing credit card debt, or creating an emergency fund.(明确一个具体的目标也很重要,无论是为买房首付存钱、还清信用卡债务还是建立应急基金。)” B“Next, set up clear financial objectives for yourself(接下来,为自己设定明确的财务目标。)”中的“set up clear financial objectives”与下文“Having a specific objective in mind”相一致;而“next”表示接下来要做的另一件事,即设定明确的财务目标,符合语境。故选B。
4.根据空前内容“Impulsive(冲动的) purchasing is a crucial habit to break. It’s critical to take action to stop the habit of impulse shopping because it can significantly reduce your bank account.(冲动购物是一个需要打破的重要习惯。采取行动来停止冲动购物的习惯至关重要,因为它会大大减少你的银行存款。)”可知,上文指出冲动购物需要打破。选项F“Making a list of the items you require before you go shopping and sticking to it is one approach to achieve this.(在去购物前列出你需要的物品清单并坚持执行是实现这一目标的一种方法。)”
5.根据上文内容“Finally, it’s critical to pay attention to your financial habits and adjust them as needed. Track your spending and goals, and be prepared to adjust as required. Keep in mind that adjusting your spending patterns is a process, and its effects might not be seen right away.(最后,关注你的财务习惯并根据需要进行调整至关重要。跟踪你的支出和目标,并随时准备根据需要做出调整。记住,调整你的消费模式是一个过程,其效果可能不会立即显现。)”可知,上文告诉读者调整消费模式需要时间,需要耐心等待。选项C“With a little knowledge and effort, you can make positive changes.(只要有一点知识和努力,你就可以做出积极的改变。)”
Passage 3
Why is a compliment (称赞) so powerful? One of the most important things to humans is to feel valued and respected by others, says Vanessa Bohns, a social psychologist, who has researched compliments. 1 With that in mind, we asked her to share some of her favorite compliments.
“You handled that situation so well.”
Bohns recently used her favorite compliment when she saw a server address a difficult situation with a customer at the bar. “I like it so much because you use it in anxious moments where the other person is often unsure of whether they handled a situation OK,” she says. 2 Give your compliments generously. People sometimes worry that they’re going over and will start to sound insincere. That concern is unfounded.
“ 3 ”
This compliment — one of Bohns’ favorites — works well among romantic partners and close family members. “It’s a beautiful way to stress how their presence turns life into something meaningful, despite boring routines of our everyday lives,” she says. If you’re afraid that giving a compliment like this will feel strange, you’re not alone. 4 If it makes you personally feel like the bar is lowered for you to give a compliment if you write it down, or if you practice saying it out loud or giving your pet cat the compliment first, do that.
“Hey, great dress!”
Feel free to compliment strangers. In Bohns ’research, students on a college campus were told to approach a stranger of the same gender and compliment them about, for example, their nice shirt. Before heading out, the study participants tended to underestimate their positive effect while overestimating how annoying it would be. Across all contexts, strangers are more likely to be pleased than confused. Plus, who knows? 25
A.Respect is vital when you deliver compliments.
B.You make even ordinary moments feel extraordinary.
C.One way to overcome this fear is to do a practice run.
D.In situations that call for a compliment, don’t hesitate.
E.You bring out the best in people when giving a compliment.
F.You might make a new friend in addition to making someone’s day.
G.She holds that people feel better after giving and receiving a compliment.
1.根据上文“Why is a compliment (称赞) so powerful? One of the most important things to humans is to feel valued and respected by others, says Vanessa Bohns, a social psychologist, who has researched compliments.(为什么赞美如此有力?研究赞美的社会心理学家凡妮莎·博恩斯说,对人类来说,最重要的事情之一就是感受到他人的重视和尊重。)”可知,这里讲赞美可让我们感受到他人的重视和尊重。而G项She holds that people feel better after giving and receiving a compliment.(她认为,人们在给予和接受赞美后会感觉更好。)符合语境,其中She指代上文Vanessa Bohns, a social psychologist,且 feel better与上文feel valued and respected by others对应,所以本句有承上作用。故选G项。
2.根据下文“Give your compliments generously. People sometimes worry that they’re going over and will start to sound insincere. That concern is unfounded.(慷慨地给出你的赞美。人们有时担心它们会过头,听起来会不真诚。这种担忧是没有根据的。)”可知,这里主要讲要慷慨地给出你的赞美,而D项In situations that call for a compliment, don’t hesitate.(在需要赞美的情况下,不要犹豫。)
3.根据下文“This compliment—one of Bohns’ favorites—works well among romantic partners and close family members. ‘It’s a beautiful way to highlight how their presence turns life into something meaningful, despite boring routines of our everyday lives,’ she says.(这是博恩斯最喜欢的赞美之一,在恋人和亲密的家庭成员之间很管用。她说:‘这是一种美丽的方式,突显了他们的存在如何让生活变得有意义,尽管我们的日常生活很无聊。’)”可知,这个赞美适合浪漫伴侣和亲密的家庭成员之间使用,强调对方的存在如何使生活变得有意义,所以B项You make even ordinary moments feel extraordinary.(你让平凡的时刻变得不平凡)符合文意,对下文有总括作用。故选B项。
4.根据上文“If you’re afraid that giving a compliment like this will feel strange, you’re not alone.(如果你害怕这样的赞美会让你觉得奇怪,那么你并不孤单)”以及下文“If it makes you personally feel like the bar is lowered for you to give a compliment if you write it down, or if you practice saying it out loud or giving your pet cat the compliment first, do that.(如果你把赞美的话写下来,或者你先练习大声说出来,或者先赞美你的宠物猫,这会让你觉得赞美的门槛降低,那就去做吧)”可知,空格需要提供一个克服这种担忧的方法,所以C项One way to overcome this fear is to do a practice run.(克服这种恐惧的一个方法是进行练习)与这个语境非常吻合,它直接回应了前文的担忧,并提供了后文所描述的建议。故选C项。
5.根据上文“Feel free to compliment strangers. Plus, who knows?(你可以随意赞美陌生人。在博恩斯的研究中,大学校园里的学生被要求接近一个同性陌生人并赞美他们——比如,赞美他们漂亮的衬衫。在出发之前,研究参与者往往低估了他们的积极影响,而高估了他们会有多烦人。在所有情况下,陌生人更容易感到高兴而不是困惑。另外,谁知道呢?)”可知,F项You might make a new friend in addition to making someone’s day.(除了让别人开心之外,你还可能交到一个新朋友)与这个语境非常吻合,描述了赞美陌生人可能带来的社交好处,是对前文方法的总结。故选F项。
Passage 4
Nowadays the sense of frustration(挫败)results from many things such as slow Internet connections and choosing what to wear to an event with an unclear dress code. 1 So next time you want to smash(砸碎)your computer, remember the following reasons for not taking life so seriously.
You may think spending more time at home or with friends will probably have a negative influence on your bank account. In fact, once you have enough money to satisfy your basic needs, money makes very little difference in your overall well-being. 27
Worry isn’t productive. You might find yourself visiting a new city like London and ending up being confused by the transportation system. You can’t find out how to get where you want to go and it makes you want to scream. 2 Nothing. Getting lost in a new city may lead to a better story than going to a crowded museum.
3 If you’re lucky enough to make it to age 90, you still have less than 800,000 hours between the time you are born and the time you die to enjoy all the things that make up life. About one third of the hours will be spent in sleeping. 4 Do what you need to do to live a happy life and help others do the same.
A.Your time is limited.
B.Rich people aren’t happier people.
C.Does this kind of relationship really matter?
D.But what are you getting by stressing yourself out?
E.So you’d better make full use of the remaining time.
F.Friendship will give you more happiness than anything else.
G.Actually, most of our troubles are only as stressful as we choose to let them be.
【答案】1.G 2.B 3.D 4.A 5.E
1.根据空前“Nowadays the sense of frustration(挫败)results from many things such as slow Internet connections and choosing what to wear to an event with an unclear dress code.(如今,这种挫败感来自很多方面,比如网速慢,以及在着装要求不明确的场合穿什么。)”可知我们的挫败感源于很多事情,根据下文“So next time you want to smash(砸碎)your computer, remember the following reasons for not taking life so seriously.(所以下次你想砸你的电脑时,记住以下不要把生活当回事的理由。)” Actually, most of our troubles are only as stressful as we choose to let them be.(事实上,我们大多数烦恼的压力都是我们选择让它们存在的。)
2.根据空前“In fact, once you have enough money to satisfy your basic needs, money makes very little difference in your overall well-being.(事实上,一旦你有足够的钱来满足你的基本需求,金钱对你的整体幸福的影响就很小了。)” Rich people aren’t happier people.
But what are you getting by stressing yourself out?
4.根据空后的“If you’re lucky enough to make it to age 90, you still have less than 800,000 hours between the time you are born and the time you die to enjoy all the things that make up life.(如果你足够幸运地活到90岁,从你出生到你死去,你还有不到80万小时的时间来享受生活。)”
5.根据上文“About one third of the hours will be spent in sleeping.(大约三分之一的时间用于睡眠。)”可知生命中大约三分之一的时间是在睡眠中度过的,根据空后“Do what you need to do to live a happy life and help others do the same.(做你需要做的事来过上幸福的生活,并帮助别人也这样做。)” So you’d better make full use of the remaining time.(所以你最好充分利用剩下的时间。)
Passage 5
You have to make a speech. You have done your research and now have a lot of ideas bouncing around in your head that you want to get across. The big question you face at this point is how to organize those thoughts. 1 You need to brainstorm some supporting ideas and then figure out how those ideas fit together.
2 Some use outlining to organize their ideas, but is that the best method? If everyone thought in a linear manner, then the answer would be yes, but most people don’t.
Enter mind mapping, a technique that shows how different ideas and facts relate to one another. This structure is designed to help you remember information. More than 250 million people worldwide use it, so why don’t you see what it is all about?
What exactly is a mind map and how do we make one? 3 Put this idea in a bubble in the middle of a page with lines stretching out to other bubbles that contain related themes or concepts. It should look like a many-legged spider (蜘蛛). 4 These associations often lead to other ideas that can be added to bubbles at the same level or in smaller branches where appropriate. Use color-coded bubbles for a visual representation of each branch’s connection. You are now mapping your thoughts and ideas in the way your brain thinks.
Studies have shown that mind maps have improved people’s recall. 5 Creativity is sparked (激发) because of the spatial (空间的) arrangement, enabling people to make more links on topics of any kind. Additionally, it enhances one’s productivity because mind mapping makes it easier to learn faster while communicating more effectively.
So whether you’re in charge of a project or writing a research paper, make this technique a part of your planning process!

Passage 10
It is not always easy to keep a conversation going in English. You might not be sure about what to say. Or maybe you are afraid that your pronunciation is not good. So how can we continue a conversation in English? 1
Listen and follow up
First, remember the importance of listening. Listen to the other person attentively, so that you can ask a follow-up question. For example, let’s say the other person tells you, “I just got back from a trip to Canada.” 2 Where did you go in Canada? What was your favorite place there?
How was the food there?
Avold simple “yes” or “no” questions
If you want to keep a conversation going, it’s a good idea to ask questions that cannot be answered with a simple “yes” or “no”. If the other person asks you a “yes” or “no” question, try to give a longer answer to help keep the conversation going.
For example, a friend might ask, “Hey, have you seen the new Star Wars movie?” You could just answer, “No, I haven’t.” 3 You could answer: “No, but I plan to see it soon. How about you?”
4
Do not worry about your pronunciation. If your pronunciation is a little different, the other person will still understand your message if you try speaking slowly and clearly. When you are traveling in an English-speaking country and have some free time, be brave and speak in English with someone who does not look too busy. 5
A.Or, you could say more.
B.Be brave and practice often.
C.You can try the following ways.
D.Why did you choose the destination?
E.Then you may make a new friend.
F.Correct your pronunciation if possible.
G.You can continue with a question using where, what, why, or how.

Keep some work with you at all times. Take advantage of your downtime by keeping work with you at all times. 3 If you’re a student, think about investing in some audio-books or recording your lectures. While waiting in line or walking to class, you can listen to material for your courses.

A.Dogs are human’s loyal friends.

F.The following top design principles should be evident in every great park or natural area.
G.Some of the most innovative park designs have changed the course of park design elsewhere.

G.She holds that people feel better after giving and receiving a compliment.
A.Use words, short phrases or images to express your ideas.
B.Mind mapping helps people communicate confidently.
C.But it doesn’t stop there.
D.Mind maps are designed to help people write a research paper.
E.These are just two situations that many people deal with frequently.
F.Or perhaps you are planning to write a paper, and all you have is the main topic.
G.Simply put, it is one’s ideas put into the form of a visual map that starts with a central idea.

F.The following top design principles should be evident in every great park or natural area.
G.Some of the most innovative park designs have changed the course of park design elsewhere.

Activate (激活) Your Imagination
3 . Use your imagination to empathize with experiences beyond your own, like the excitement of a new discovery. Reading widely and exposing yourself to diverse life stories can also enhance your ability to empathize. 4 , not to make up or exaggerate (夸大) your own experiences.
Practice Active Listening

Passage 8
Push yourselves beyond the limits
Limits are blocks between you and your success. You will face great resistance when attempting to break through the limits. It could be fear, lack of confidence, physical disabilities, and mental block. If you desire a life of success, you must face the resistance and push yourself beyond the limits. 1 Here are tips for you to succeed.
2 Don’t wait for external motivation to make the first move. Discover your inner motivation! It could be a motivational video, articles, TED Talks, or quotes. Ensure it is something that fills you with passion and drive to get things done. Inspiration can push you forward.
Take on a little more than you think you can. Pushing past your limits means taking on newer, harder challenges. If you’re not challenging yourself to do bigger and better things regularly, you’re only working within what you already can do. 48
Work on your goals a little each day. Chances are great that you need to build your empire brick by brick. That takes time and regular effort. 3 That is, there is not a day that you don’t work on your big goals, at least a little bit. It can be fifteen minutes dedicated to doing one small thing that will get you closer to that big thing you want to accomplish.
Find someone who supports you and encourages you to keep going. 4 Having someone to support you can balance out the impact of any negative thinking that may limit you. It could be a life coach, friend, parent, or your wife or husband. They can help you make the push you need to get out of your comfort zone.
A.Inspire yourself.
B.Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Tips for taking care of friendships
Some people are meant to come and go from your lives quickly. Other friends may grow with you as your life changes. One way to keep friendships of any level strong is to take good care of them.
Send handwritten notes
Just find a note card, write something by hand, and then mail it. 1 Since electronic communication is becoming popular these days, a handwritten note can really make an impression.
Be active in contacting friends
Many people call up friends only when they need something. The problem with this is it makes it look as if you don’t really care about your friend. 2 Regularly check in with your friends so they know you are sincere.

Passage 11
Time management is an important skill to develop. It can help you make the most out of each day, leading to success in areas like work and school. To manage your time, use your time productively by working in the right environment and prioritizing tasks.
1 The environment you work in can help with your overall productivity. There are no strict rules about a work environment, so pick what feels right for you. Surround yourself with inspiring decorations that help you feel enthusiastic and passionate. 62
List your tasks in terms of importance. 2 To-do lists are a great tool, but organize them a little rather than just writing down everything that needs to get done. Group tasks in terms of importance.
Keep some work with you at all times. Take advantage of your downtime by keeping work with you at all times. 3 If you’re a student, think about investing in some audio-books or recording your lectures. While waiting in line or walking to class, you can listen to material for your courses.
Do not multitask. Many people assume multitasking is a great way to get more done each day and manage time wisely. However, focusing on multiple tasks at once actually makes you less productive. Things will take longer to do, as you’re not giving anything your full attention. 65
You will get your work done quicker this way, allowing you to make the most of your time.
A.List tasks under each category.
B.Create the right environment to work.
C.Focus completely on one task at a time instead.
D.Before you begin your work load for the day, make a list.
E.These feelings will help you stay on task and be productive.
F.Stop any unnecessary socializing before you start your priority tasks.
G.If you have a few minutes on the bus, use that to read something for school or work.

Self-disciplined people are not all outstanding people. 1 Some of them read every day. Some of them never run late. The real difference between an elite (杰出的) person and an ordinary person is that an elite person can manage his or her time well. 2
What people call self-discipline is in fact self-management. One example is staying fit. Never underestimate (低估) someone who is in good shape. Anyone who has ever tried to lose weight knows that it’s not easy. 2 . If someone is in good shape, it shows that he knows the principles of staying fit and is able to stick to a plan that uses these principles.
If someone is in good shape, it means that this person is good at managing themselves and their time. 3 It also shows that this person is able to keep persevering (坚持) and can balance long-term goals with short-term goals. So if someone is in good shape, he or she is more than just health.
4 First of all, set a goal and write down your reasons for wanting to achieve it. Create a list of all the things you need to do to achieve this goal and start to work on them one at a time. With self-discipline, small things in life will no longer trouble you. Only through self-discipline can you truly own your future.

Passage 1
Over recent years, AI has become accessible to everyone, particularly young people, significantly simplifying our lives compared to before. 1 Here are three things you can keep in mind as you navigate AI technology in everyday life.
Be critical. Generative AI can do amazing things, like generate images or write stories, but it does not reflect on what it is writing. It will string text together in a way that makes sense but often cannot “read between the lines”. 2 You can use this as an opportunity to develop critical thinking skills.
Watch out for chatbots. Chatbots are computer programs designed to simulate (模拟) conversations as if they were another human being. But there may not be any human checks on inappropriate content. Don’t forget that the “person” you’re speaking to is actually a machine, not a human. 3 It only presents text and language based on prewritten models and rules.
4 With all the focus on AI-generated text, you might not notice that images and videos are also part of the generative AI landscape. Your photos and facial image become available to AI when uploaded, which makes it harder to protect your identity. So be careful about your privacy and always remember that any data you upload to the internet can be stored, scanned and processed by AI.
Nevertheless, the developments in this field are highly exciting. And with open policy conservation and some oversights, AI can be a powerful learning and engagement tool. 5
A.Understand AI’s limitations.
B.Pay attention to visual uploads.
C.However, there are risks as well as benefits.
D.It does not share your ideas, beliefs, culture or religion.
E.If left unaccompanied, chatbots could feed into your curiosity.
F.The potential benefits that would come from using this technology are endless.
G.This means every word, sentence and claim AI generates should be treated carefully.
Passage 1
Research has shown that spending more time outside is key to the nation’s well-being. Nearly two thirds of UK adults said that taking in the colors, sights, smells and sounds of the great outdoors by gardening or being surrounded by nature helped with their mental wellbeing and lowered stress levels. Now is a great time to dig out your trowel and get your hands dirty in some soil. 1 Pick your own
There’s nothing like eating your own vegetables. From picking your own strawberries or unearthing the first new potatoes of the year, homegrown vegetable is a joy. It simply tastes better. Once you start home growing you may never stop.
You don’t need to have a large plot to do so either. 2 Don’t forget that a windowsill garden should also provide color as well as be useful, so experiment with different varieties for attractive leaves. 8
Over the garden fence, while weeding your window boxes, it’s amazing whoever you talk to when you’re enjoying tending to your plants or vegetables. Simply being out and about in your garden invites interaction and conversation with neighbors and people in your local area, which in itself has multiple social and wellbeing benefits.
Additionally, whether you’re a learner or a keen gardener, community gardening groups can also be invaluable for information sharing. 3
Stay healthy
Did you know that the amount of calories burnt from 30 minutes of gardening is comparable to playing badminton, volleyball or practicing yoga? From digging to weeding to lopping and mowing, there’s a whole world of muscle movement when you’re planting and tidying. 4 Research carried out by the RHS and Coventry University shows that a good digging technique was found to have minimal backbend and a large knee bend, so be mindful and make sure you’re saving yourself from a future potential bad back.
A.Join gardening groups
B.Start community conversations
C.Here are top reasons to get gardening this year.
D.Herbs and smaller vegetables are more than happy in pots on windowsills or small balconies.
E.However, ensuring you’re completing jobs with minimal strain and risk of injury is imperative.
F.Looking after plants in window boxes also boosted wellbeing—showing that you don’t need a big garden.
G.Local seed and plant swap groups are also a great way of meeting people and getting rid of unwanted plants.
Passage 1
With the digital revolution, people’s lives are being transformed. The mobile phone is a symbol of this development. Nearly everyone uses mobile phones, as they allow us to complete modern tasks conveniently and effectively. 11
Mobile phones are a threat to our health. 1 This will cause overweight and some other problems. Mobile phones have a particularly great impact on children’s health, even affecting the normal development of their brain and body.
It’s also true that too much use of mobile phones can make us cold and distant. How many times have you noticed that people sit with each other, but don’t interact? Our dependence on phones reduces our opportunities for face-to-face communication. 13
Mobile phones also take up much of our time that could be better used in other things. They may include learning, playing sports, going sightseeing and so on. 2 On the contrary, the only result after a long time spent on mobile phones, like playing video games or watching video clips is that we may not only feel tired, but empty in mind.
3 It is certainly convenient, but it also encourages us to be lazy about our physical health and our relationships with the people closest to us. Wouldn’t it be a good idea, once in a while, to turn off the phone and step out into the country, to enjoy the scenery and in the meantime get some exercise with the people we love?
A.It will cause our interpersonal communicating skills to suffer.
B.However, we should not overlook their bad influences.
C.All in all, the mobile phone has positives and negatives.
D.Anyway, the convenience of mobile phones can’t be ignored.
E.Mobiles are also used by students or learners to cheat in the exams.
F.The activities are mentally and physically beneficial to us.
G.Using them for too long tends to make us passive and ignore physical exercise.
Passage 1
People are always living with technology nowadays. Here comes a smart home, which is controlled by the touch of a button. 1 This acts like a remote control to activate household systems and monitor inside temperatures. If done successfully, a smart home system will be integrated so smoothly that a household will appear to run itself.
Home automation is designed to introduce efficiency to a home. 2 An efficient smart home uses sensors to prevent over watering of outdoor gardens and control room temperatures, all of which can reduce expenses. In addition to cost savings, home automation often provides a sense of security to homeowners.
Families with children or elderly adults in the home may be reassured by some safeguards in smart home security, like fire alarms that alert the appropriate agencies in the event of a problem. Lighting activation runs on timers, which can be a life saver if an oven is left on when someone leaves the home. 18
Home automation is not just for safety, however. 3 With a centralized control unit, a person does not have to leave the couch to turn down the blinds or even order groceries, which can be automated.
4 Such a home becomes dependent on technology for routine tasks. If something goes wrong with the central automation unit, it is not just one appliance at risk as malfunctions can disrupt systems that are vital to running a home. As a result, for all people, a home can become a place of technical faults that repeatedly require repair.
A.Smart devices can talk to each other.
B.It achieves this by saving homeowners time and money.
C.There are some drawbacks with an automated home system.
D.It can also provide convenience for people living in the home.
E.Through home automation, an entire house can be connected via a smart controller.
F.Besides protecting people, it also offers security for expensive items inside a residence.
G.Home automation enables you to operate your equipment with the sound of your voice.
Passage 1
