“What is your name? ” is a question most frequently asked when people meet for the first time. But for me, it was the first challenge I encountered as an international student in Ireland.
The pronunciation system of the Chinese language is quite different from that of English. For native speakers of English, some Chinese words are rather difficult to pronounce. My given name Qiuyu (秋雨), for instance, happened to be a great challenge for many of them. Every time I gave a self-introduction, I had to explain how to pronounce my name at least five times, yet they still could not say it the way I did.
Once in a lecture, the professor tried repeating my name after me over and over in front of thirty classmates. I really did not know whether I should continue correcting him or simply drop the matter. I feared that my classmates might grow tired of my efforts or even lose patience with me. After all, I did care about how others would think of me. I realized that if I didn’t stop, the entire lecture would be ruined. “It’s okay, professor,” I shrugged (耸肩). The awkward moment ended with the class erupting into laughter. I forced a smile, unsure how to respond further.
After that incident, I stopped acting as a “Chinese teacher.” Instead of correcting others when they were struggling to pronounce my name, I just smiled and nodded approvingly. This approach spared me the discomfort of having to over-explain. However, I soon found that by doing so, I might be losing something more important: the opportunity to share a small part of my cultural identity.

In a class discussion I was invited to explain the meaning of my name.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
In a class discussion, I was invited to explain the meaning of my name. Standing up, I felt a mix of nervousness and excitement. “My name, Qiuyu, combines the characters for autumn and rain in Chinese,” I began, my voice steady. “Autumn represents harvest and maturity, while rain symbolizes nourishment and growth. Together, they embody a time of abundance and renewal.” As I spoke, I noticed the rapt attention of my classmates, their eyes reflecting curiosity and respect. It was a moment of connection, a bridge built between cultures through the simple act of sharing my name.
Many of my classmates got interested and came up to me after class. They surrounded me, their questions pouring out like a stream. “What other names have beautiful meanings in Chinese?” “Can you teach us how to write our names in Chinese characters?” I smiled, feeling a warmth spread through me. I took out a piece of paper and began to sketch out characters, explaining each stroke and its significance. Through this interaction, I realized that by embracing my cultural identity, I was not only preserving my heritage but also enriching the lives of those around me. It was a small yet meaningful step towards fostering cultural understanding and appreciation.

I met Gunter on a cold, wet and unforgettable evening in September. I had planned to fly to Vienna and take a bus to Prague for a conference. Due to a big storm, my flight had been delayed by an hour and a half. I touched down in Vienna just 30 minutes before the departure of the last bus to Prague. The moment I got off the plane, I ran like crazy through the airport building and jumped into the first taxi on the rank without a second thought.
That was when I met Gunter. I told him where I was going, but he said he hadn't heard of the bus station. I thought my pronunciation was the problem, so I explained again more slowly, but he still looked confused. When I was about to give up, Gunter fished out his little phone and rang up a friend. After a heated discussion that lasted for what seemed like a century, Gunter put his phone down and started the car.
Finally, with just two minutes to spare we rolled into the bus station. Thankfully, there was a long queue (队列) still waiting to board the bus. Gunter parked the taxi behind the bus, turned around, and looked at me with a big smile on his face. "We made it," he said.
Just then I realised that I had zero cash in my wallet. I flashed him an apologetic smile as I pulled out my Portuguese bankcard. He tried it several times, but the card machine just did not play along. A feeling of helplessness washed over me as I saw the bus queue thinning out.
At this moment, Gunter pointed towards the waiting hall of the bus station. There, at the entrance, was a cash machine. I jumped out of the car, made a mad run for the machine, and popped my card in, only to read the message: "Out of order. Sorry."
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
I ran back to Gunter and told him the bad news.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Four days later, when I was back in Vienna, I called Gunter as promised.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I ran back to Gunter and told him the bad news. He looked at me in disbelief, asking me what to do. Flashing him another apologetic smile, I begged him for a delayed payment. “If I miss this last bus to Prague, I’ll be late for the conference which is so important that I can’t afford to miss it!” I explained. “May I have your phone number? I will call you and return the money I owe you. I promise I will keep my word or you keep my watch!” I added, handing him my watch as well as my business card. Gunter accepted my business card but rejected my watch. He wrote down his phone number and gave it to me. “Just keep your promise, Sir.” A feeling of gratitude washed over me as I heard his words. Giving him a firm handshake, I jumped out of the car, made a mad run for the bus, and jumped onto it just before its departure.
Four days later, when I was back in Vienna, I called Gunter as promised. He picked me up at the bus station where he had dropped me off four days before. Beaming a warm smile at him, I gave him a big hug the moment I saw him. We chatted happily on the way to the airport. I told him that thanks to his generosity and timely help, everything had gone smoothly. When he stopped his taxi outside the airport, I paid him for the “double car ride”, back and forth from the airport to the bus station, together with a generous tip that he turned down. I also gave him an attractive souvenir I had bought at Prague, which he accepted with delight. We became good friends and kept in touch with each other regularly. I felt blessed to have such a warm-hearted friend like Gunter.

Eva spent the first week of high school trying to keep her head above water. One of the major headaches for her was finding her way in the huge school building. It was a six-story building. On each floor, hallways stretched in four directions, leading to classrooms, laboratories, and teachers’ offices. Somewhere in the building, there was also a library, a cafeteria, and a gym.
Having a poor sense of direction, Eva found it impossible to get around in such a huge building. All the different hallways and rooms were too much to think about, let alone commit to memory. She decided that she would memorize where her classes were and then pretend that the rest of the place didn’t exist.
In her first PE class, Eva was shocked when Coach Pitt announced that everyone had to run one mile around the track outside. She searched the faces of her classmates for signs of panic. There was nothing she feared more than having to run a whole mile. To Eva, “a mile” was used to describe long distances. It was ten miles from her home to her grandfather’s, and that always seemed like a long way, even in a car!
When Coach Pitt blew his whistle (哨子), Eva figured she would be left in the dust. However, while some of her classmates edged ahead, others actually fell behind. ” It’s just the beginning, “she thought. “I’ll come in last for sure. ”
Soon Eva began to breathe hard, with her heart pounding and legs shaking. Feeling desperate, Eva started using a mind trick on herself. She stopped thinking about the word” mile. “Instead, she focused on reaching the shadow cast on the track by an oak tree up ahead. Then she concentrated on jogging to the spot where the track curved (拐弯). After that, she tried to see if she could complete her first lap. One lap turned into two, then three, then four.

1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Paragraph 1:
When Coach Pitt said “Nice work!” to her at the finish line, Eva was surprised.

Paragraph 2:
Eva decided to use the same trick to deal with the school building.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
When Coach Pitt said “Nice work!” to her at the finish line, Eva was surprised. In the vast expanse of her school, a girl with poor directional skills struggled to navigate and often got lost. One day, during gym class, she observed a unique way to find her way - following the shadows of trees. As the sun cast its rays, the girl noticed how the shadows created patterns on the ground, guiding her path. She took a leap of faith and followed the shadows, surprising herself with each turn and stretch. Her efforts were noticed by the teacher, who praised her innovative thinking.
Eva decided to use the same trick to deal with the school building. She used the shadows to navigate the school hallways, find her classes, and even locate the school's various facilities. This newfound skill not only helped the girl navigate her school but also instilled in her a sense of confidence and adventure. She learned excitedly that with a little creativity and observation, any challenge could be overcome. And with each step she took, she left behind a legacy of inspiration for those who followed in her footsteps, knowing that even without a clear sense of direction, there's always a way to find one's way.

When I was in middle school, my social studies teacher asked me to enter a writing contest. I said no without thinking. I did not love writing. My family came from Brazil, so English was only my second language. Writing was so difficult and painful for me that my teacher had allowed me to present my paper on the sinking of the Titanic by acting out a play, where I played all the parts. No one laughed harder than he did.
So, why did he suddenly force me to do something at which I was sure to fail? His reply: “Because I love your stories. If you’re willing to apply yourself, I think you have a good shot at this.” Encouraged by his words, I agreed to give it a try.
I chose Paul Revere’s horse as my subject. Paul Revere was a silversmith (银匠) in Boston who rode a horse at night on April 18, 1775 to Lexington to warn people that British soldiers were coming. My story would come straight from the horse’s mouth. Not a brilliant idea, but funny; and unlikely to be anyone else’s choice.
What did the horse think, as he sped through the night? Did he get tired? Have doubts? Did he want to quit? I sympathized immediately. I got tired. I had doubts. I wanted to quit. But, like Revere’s horse, I kept going. I worked hard. I checked my spelling. I asked my older sister to correct my grammar. I checked out a half dozen books on Paul Revere from the library. I even read a few of them.
When I handed in the essay to my teacher, he read it, laughed out loud, and said, “Great. Now, write it again.” I wrote it again, and again and again. When I finally finished it, the thought of winning had given way to the enjoyment of writing. If I didn’t win, I wouldn’t care.

A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news. I was informed that I won the first prize in the writing contest and that there would be an award presentation in two days. I was so happy to hear the news that I immediately shared it with my teacher. “I knew you’d win! I am proud of you. You made it!” he said excitedly. Then came the big day. When I was invited to the stage to receive the award, I expressed my thanks to my teacher. I said, “It’s you who make me fall in love with writing, my social studies teacher. Without your recognition and guidance, I couldn’t have written this article. Again thank you very much!”
I went to my teacher’s office after the award presentation. My teacher was waiting for me. Holding my hands, he said “Congratulations! You are a good writer, so keep writing.” “You know I didn’t like writing before, but now I am crazy about it! I will try my best to create good works.” I said seriously. Since then, I have written many good works and now I am a famous writer. I owe my success to my social teacher who is a beacon in my life on the road to writing.

It was the day of the big cross-country run. Students from seven different primary schools in and around the small town were warming up and walking the route(路线)through thick evergreen forest.
I looked around and finally spotted David, who was standing by himself off to the side by a fence. He was small for ten years old. His usual big toothy smile was absent today. I walked over and asked him why he wasn’t with the other children. He hesitated and then said he had decided not to run.
What was wrong? He had worked so hard for this event!
I quickly searched the crowd for the school’s coach and asked him what had happened. “I was afraid that kids from other schools would laugh at him,” he explained uncomfortably. “I gave him the choice to run or not, and let him decide.”
I bit back my frustration(懊恼). I knew the coach meant well—he thought he was doing the right thing. After making sure that David could run if he wanted, I turned to find him coming towards me, his small body rocking from side to side as he swung his feet forward.
David had a brain disease which prevented him from walking or running like other children, but at school his classmates thought of him as a regular kid. He always participated to the best of his ability in whatever they were doing. That was why none of the children thought it unusual that David had decided to join the cross-country team. It just took him longer—that’s all. David had not missed a single practice, and although he always finished his run long after the other children, he did always finish. As a special education teacher at the school, I was familiar with the challenges David faced and was proud of his strong determination.

We sat down next to each other, but David wouldn’t look at me. I said gently and quietly, “No one can change your mind, except yourself. If you desire to challenge yourself, there is nothing to do with others’ thoughts.” He sat still with a deep breath. “You have a full preparation before this event, which is the most important reason why you show up here”, I added with a sincere tone. Hearing my words, David turned to me tremblingly with tears spilling out of his eyes and expressed he had made a firm determination to finish the cross-country run. His coach heard what David said and gave me a look—the kind that was more determined than anyone else’s.
I watched as David moved up to the starting line with the other runners. The race started. It seemed that the runway was extremely long for young children, not to mention a child with a heart disease. David insisted on running as if he had forgotten all his weaknesses, though he was tripped over within the a few kilometers. It didn’t take long before he picked himself up again and continued his mission. Classmates all appeared on the racing track, cheering for him. “Come on! You can make it! We are proud of you!” they shouted enthusiastically. To everyone’s joy, he reached the final line and ranked the 20th. It was no more important whether he won the first place or not. It was his brave heart and strong faith that could make something unusual happen finally.

At age fifty, I found myself on a rocky path. I lacked self-confidence. I realized that I had consistently put other people’s needs and expectations ahead of my own. I remember looking in a mirror one rainy afternoon and seeing a person who no longer recalled who she was, what she loved to do, and what she was capable of doing.
Not only did I avoid adventure, but I also held back from pursuing just about anything else I had longed for in my youth. By age fifty, I still hadn’t pursued my interest in art, playing the guitar, and singing. I hadn’t become a forest ranger, geologist, or paleontologist. Instead, I played it safe.
Then a new friend entered my life. He picked up on my soul’s unspoken desires. “How about backpacking for five days in Yosemite National Park?” he asked.
“Sure!” I said, wanting to impress him with who I wanted to be, not who I had become. And then I thought, “Backpacking? I can’t go backpacking! I’m a girl. Backpacking’s dangerous!” Because I liked this guy so much, though, I worked through my fears and trained like mad for a month so I could go backpacking with him. I had never felt so full of self-doubt, but I kept reminding myself: Isn’t this what I always wanted? Isn’t this supposed to be who I am, or who I think I am, or who I claim I am?
For an entire month, I climbed local hills with an increasing number of water bottles in my backpack until it matched in pounds what I had to carry on the trip. My heart pounded out of my chest. My legs trembled and my back ached in as many places. And then the day finally came when my friend took me out with him into the wilderness at Yosemite.
Day One’s hike proved to be the shortest walk, but the biggest reality check. I couldn’t have been more relieved to drop the forty-pound backpack to the ground when we got to a clearing that would serve as our campsite for the night. When my friend reminded me we would take a two-mile satellite hike to the North Dome before dinner, I forced a smile and replied, “Clearly, I haven’t suffered enough today.”

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
After the adventure my friend loaded my backpack in the car.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The rest of the trip was struggling. My feet, covered in wounds, ached with every step. Just when we were closing in on the end, a wrong turn stretched the final two miles into five — a steep uphill climb. By the last one mile, my hiking boots had got broken so I had to take them off and walk in my socks slowly, which made me feel significantly better than with the boots. When we finally reached the car and dropped the backpacks to the ground for the last time, I felt an immense weight fall off not only my shoulders, but also my soul. I felt as light as a feather.
After the adventure my friend loaded my backpack in the car. I sank into the passenger seat and pulled out the mirror from the bag behind the front seat. There in the mirror, I saw the reflection of that high mountain I once feared now fading like a beautiful photo flown into the blue sky. And I also saw someone who I hadn’t seen in a while — a more bright-eyed, confident and determined me. I also saw someone full of adventure, gratitude, and newly-found wisdom. And I knew from that moment forward, I’d never lose myself again.

As a teenager, I longed for popularity among my class. The desire to stand out consumed me. Toby’s raised hands always lit up teachers’ eyes. Josh, the basketball star, pulled cheers from the crowd with every shot. And George could walk into a silent room and start conversations with everyone around him. I envied them all.
“Maybe I would be visible when I climbed my way to the top of every exam ranking,” I thought. To stand out academically, I doubled my effort. I spent every minute trying to be number one. Whenever classmates asked for help, I would close my textbook and lied. “Sorry, I don’t get it either,” terrified they would outperform me.
Mr. White, our head teacher, noticed. “Real respect grows when you lift others up, Vik.” But I dismissed his words-grades were my only currency.
The school was organizing a relay race for the upcoming sports day, and our class was making the team. The monitor turned to me with hopeful eyes. “Vik, you have to be on our team!” But I shook my head, “No way, I can’t afford to waste time on that. I have studies to do.” He tried to reason, “It’s just one afternoon, and it’s for the class!” Yet I stood firm, my mind fixed on my academic goals.
Mr. White saw the whole exchange and called me aside, “Vik, life isn’t just about books and grades. The relay isn’t just a race; it’s a chance to build teamwork.” I was too blind to see his point.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Eventually, I ranked first in the mid-exam, expecting cheers and congratulations. When the teacher read my name aloud, I sat up straight, waiting for the excitement I’d dreamed of. But the classroom stayed quiet—no cheers, no pats on the back. I stared at my paper, the red “1st” now feeling cold. For the first time, I realized the top rank I’d fought so hard for hadn’t brought me the respect I wanted. Mr. White’s words echoed in my head again, and this time, they hit home.
I realized what I should do. The next break, I walked to the monitor, my heart beating fast. “Is there still a spot on the relay team?” His eyes widened in surprise, then lit up. At practice, I pushed through sore legs to keep up, and after class, I pulled out my notes to help classmates who struggled with math. On sports day, when I passed the baton to Josh, the whole class screamed. We finished second, but as we hugged one another, I felt warmer than I ever had holding a top exam paper. Popularity wasn’t about standing above others—it was about standing with them.

In the corner of our basement sits a shelf filled with old radios — wooden boxes with metal buttons and antennas (天线), whose colors faded with time. To most, they might seem like waste. But to my grandfather, they were treasure chests of stories.
My grandfather grew up in a small mountain village, where the only way to hear news of the outside world was through an old, noisy and unclear radio that he fixed by connecting wires under high heat. “I didn’t understand most of the words,” he used to laugh. “But the music spoke to me.” Fixing radios became more than a hobby — it was how he reached out to the world. He learned everything through repeated trials, until broken silence turned into sound again.
My mother never planned to keep this habit. As a teenager, she preferred tape players and music that she could carry with her. But when Grandpa passed away, she couldn’t throw away his tools or the radios he left. “They’re part of him,” she once said, gently turning a round metal button on one of the radios. Slowly, she began trying to fix a few of them, not as an expert, but with care and curiosity.
By the time I was ten, I had watched my mother spend many weekends surrounded by small parts and wires. “Come and try with me,” she said one Saturday. “Let’s see if we can fix this one together.” I didn’t know what to do, and I didn’t even like machines. I enjoyed reading and drawing. But when she turned the button and a jazz tune started playing, I felt something touched me.
Soon, fixing radios became our weekly activity. She showed me how to look closely at every wire and tiny part, and how to be patient and listen carefully. “Sometimes the problem isn’t what you see,” she said. “It’s what you hear — or don’t hear.”
Unlike my mother, I fell in love with it quickly. I began collecting old radios from neighbors and even tried fixing ones that no longer worked. I didn’t just want to make them work — I wanted to bring back their sound.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
One winter evening, a sudden power cut hit our village. The whole village was swallowed by darkness, and the cold silence seemed to stretch endlessly. I quickly invited the neighbors over to my house. From a large box, I took out several radios I had repaired over the past few weeks — old sets they had once given me, broken and forgotten. I placed them on a wooden bench and began turning the metal buttons, adjusting the metal antennas one by one. Slowly, voices and music began to rise. People leaned in, eyes wide, smiles spreading across their anxious faces.
When the power was restored, everyone thanked me for bringing them music. However, I shook my head and said, “It wasn’t just me — it was Grandpa.” I began telling them how he had fixed his first radio before and how he passed that quiet love down to my mother. As I spoke, everyone listened carefully and nodded in agreement. That night, I understood something deeper: fixing radios wasn’t only about sound or skill — it was about connection. In moments of silence or trouble, these old radios carried more than news or music; they carried the stories of who we are. And as long as someone keeps tuning in, that story will continue.

With graduation just around the corner, I knew I wanted to do something truly special for my classmates at Notre Dame Academy. I had always been passionate about art, and that passion led me to a “crazy” idea. I decided to paint pictures of all 110 of my classmates and surprise them with the paintings during my graduation speech. I was the representative for our class of 2025, and I thought it would be a great way to leave a lasting memory.
I was both excited and nervous. And I set out to make it happen. First, I needed to get approval from the school’s teachers and staff. To my joy, they all supported my idea. With their blessing, I went to Principal (校长) Meaghan O’Brien’s office to explain my plan. She was excited and gave me the green light. Next, I approached Laura Bauer, the head of the yearbook, to get the yearbook photos of my classmates. Then, I went to Joe Barral, the head of the art department, to ask for supplies. He was more than happy to help and even gave me some extra materials.
The hardest part was keeping the secret. I had to come up with excuses to slip away from my friends. I would tell them I was going to the bathroom, but instead, I would head to Principal O’Brien’ s office or the art room. Even my best friend since kindergarten, Kayleigh Fitzpatrick, had no idea what I was up to.
After months of hard work and careful planning, graduation day finally arrived on June 6. I had completed all the pictures just two days before the big event. As I walked up to the stage, I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness. I took a deep breath and began my speech. “Look under your seats!” I said, asking everyone to look under their chairs for a little something made just for them. Slowly, I heard gasps (喘息) of amazement from my classmates. One by one, they discovered the pictures and their reactions were beyond anything I could have imagined.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
Everyone rose from their seats and started clapping.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Since that day, my phone has been ringing non-stop with messages from my classmates.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
Everyone rose from their seats and started clapping. The sound was like waves crashing against the shore, filling the room with excitement and joy. I saw smiles on everyone’s faces as they held up the pictures, some even wiping away tears. It was a moment I had dreamed of, but seeing it come to life was even more magical. I continued my speech, feeling my heart filled with pride. “These pictures are a reminder of the time we’ve shared and the memories we’ve made,” I said. “No matter where life takes us, we’ll always have this moment and each other.”
Since that day, my phone has been ringing non-stop with messages from my classmates. They thanked me over and over, sharing how much the gesture meant to them. It was incredible to see how a simple idea had brought us all closer. Kayleigh even sent me a heartfelt message, saying she was proud of me and that the surprise was the best gift she could have ever received. I realized that art has the power to connect people and create lasting bonds. It was a lesson I would carry with me forever, and a memory that would never fade.

By morning, Jack knew what he had to do. He had not slept a wink but had sat on the balcony all night thinking. He stretched his stiff (僵硬的) body and went back to his room. His brother Jerry was still asleep.
It was Saturday and there was no school. Jack’s mother asked him to run some errands (差事) for her. On his way out, he glanced at his motorcycle which was parked at the side of the house. There was no hiding the broken front lamp and the dent (凹痕) and scratches (划痕) on the side. Jack readied himself and went to complete his errands.
It was late morning before Jack was free to carry out his plan. He marched down the road to Mr Brown’s house. When he arrived and called out the usual greeting, Mrs Brown appeared at the doorway and greeted him warmly. She invited him in and served him tea and some cakes. Jack nervously asked to speak to Mr Brown. She told him that her husband was out but would be home very soon. Sure enough, the elderly man returned in ten minutes.
Jack cleared his throat a few times while his host waited patiently. Finally, he let out that he had come to make an apology. “I’m so sorry. I was careless yesterday and knocked into your parked car in front of the post office,” Jack said.
Mr Brown looked at the 17-year-old, surprised. “So, you are saying that you are the one who dented my car and then ran away?”
Jack went red. He nodded. “I’m sorry for not telling you earlier. I was too frightened.”
The elderly man smiled and said, “But you’re not too frightened to confess (坦白) now?”
Jack said, “I could not sleep last night thinking about it. I knew I had to do the right thing.”
注意:
1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;

Jack now looked curiously at the elderly man, “Will my brother be arrested?”
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
Mr Brown was silent for a minute before saying in a kind voice, “You think that it is the right thing to cover up for your brother?” Jack went pale. “I… I… you know the truth?” he mumbled. Mr Brown smiled, “Yes, Jerry told me himself just half an hour ago.” The elderly man explained that Jerry had met him at the cafe and told him everything, how he had ridden his brother’s motorcycle without permission and lost control of it, resulting in the minor accident that dented Mr Brown’s new car.
Jack now looked curiously at the elderly man, “Will my brother be arrested?” “Ah, I see, you are trying to protect your brother. No, I will not be reporting the accident. It’s just a small dent.” Seeing Jack’s relieved expression, he went on, “However, I hope that your brother will learn from this. As for you, remember that it is unwise to hide the truth.” Jack thanked Mr Brown for his kindness and then went home happily. His brother’s courage in confessing everything made him happy and proud. He knew he would sleep well tonight.

When things went wrong, Fein always had something nice to say.
When Dad forgot about the pizza and it burned, Fein comforted him by saying it would still taste good. And he was right. The pizza edges were dark and crispy, but the middle wasn’t half bad. When Fein’s friend got a low score on the spelling test, Fein said that she would do better next time. And, sure enough, she studied hard and got 100 percent the next week. When his teacher bumped into a book stand in the library, Fein told him not to worry as the librarian wouldn’t be upset. He was right. The librarian just laughed and helped pick up the books.
Fein looked on the bright side. And everyone except Hazel liked that about him. Hazel was the new kid in the class. On her first day, Fein said, “Nice to meet you, Hazel. I think you’ll like it here.” Hazel stared at him. “I doubt it.” Fein didn’t know what to do. He’d never met anyone like Hazel. When the teacher said they’d take a break inside because of the rain, Fein said, “Every cloud has a silver lining.”
“A silver lining?” Hazel shook her head. “Clouds are white. Maybe gray. Where do you get this stuff?” Fein felt as if the wind had been knocked out of him.
Outside the window, the clouds had rolled over the sun. The room felt darker. “Bad things come in threes,” said Hazel. “No outdoor break is number one. What will be the second thing?” The class didn’t have to wait long to find out.
Emma was carrying a tray of paints during art class. She tripped, and the paint went flying. There was blue on the floor and red and black on the walls. Hazel declared it to be the second bad thing. Fein didn’t know what to say. Hazel seemed so sure about the Rule of Three Bad Things. Emma came to look at Fein’s painting. “It’s beautiful. I especially like the grassland,” she said.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
Emma picked up the painting, not realizing she had paints on her fingers.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
“Want to add your fingerprint on the painting?” Fein asked Hazel.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Emma picked up the painting, not realizing she had paints on her fingers. She gasped as her fingers left bright smudges on Fein’s beautiful grassland. Hazel sighed, “See? Bad thing number three.” The class held their breath. Fein looked at the painting. Then, a warm smile spread across his face. “Actually,” he said, his eyes lighting up, “those splashes of color look like wildflowers blooming! They make the grassland even more alive. It’s a happy accident.” Emma looked relieved, and a small murmur of agreement rippled through the class.
“Want to add your fingerprint on the painting?” Fein asked Hazel. Hazel stared at him, surprised. “Why would I?” she asked suspiciously. “Because,” Fein explained gently, holding out the painting towards her, “then this ‘bad’ thing becomes part of something good – a unique artwork we all helped create, even by accident. Your fingerprint can be a special mark.” Hesitantly, Hazel pressed her finger onto the paint palette and then onto a corner of the painting. For the first time, a tiny, uncertain smile touched her lips. Maybe Fein’s bright side wasn’t so silly after all.

I held back tears as I walked up to Mrs. Bartlett. “I don't understand,” 1 (我用颤抖的声音对她说). “I was supposed to be in group three with Missy.” Mrs. Bartlett looked at me gently. “I know what you were expecting, but I want you to try this. You’ll learn a lot from it.” 2 (我不情愿地和其他同学加入了他们的小组). As the days went on, 3 (我发现自己很难融入他们). We had completely different interests and ways of doing things.
By midweek, I felt myself enjoying the company of these three misfits. Mauro shared his love for soccer, Juliette showed me her passion for art, and Rachel introduced me to her interest in science. What's more, our unique perspectives on the project added a fresh dimension to our presentation.
Peter was lost in thought. “Should I return the dictionary? If so, I would lose what I have expected for a long time. But, if not, I can’t persuade myself to pretend to be as calm as nothing happened.” Suddenly Mum’s words flew into his mind: “We ought to be honest.” 1 (毫不犹豫地), holding the dictionary and the test paper in hand, Peter approached to Mr. White quickly. Being praised for honesty in front of the class, 2 (彼得非常高兴,决定在下次考试中拿满分).

Laughter lingering around the classroom, 5 (彼得为其他学生树立了榜样,证明诚实才是上策).

Sorry."
