Starter Unit 1 Hello!-Section B(Project)

1. Content Overview

This Project section is the comprehensive application and extension of Starter Unit 1 "Hello!". It takes the theme of "Creating a 'Class Greeting Album'" as the core, integrating all the key knowledge and skills learned in the unit.

In this section, students will first review essential greeting expressions (e.g., "Hello!/Hi! What's your name? My name is... Nice to meet you."), alphabet recognition (26 English letters), and basic personal information communication. Then, under the teacher's guidance, they will work in small groups to complete a practical task: designing and making a simple "Class Greeting Album". Each student in the group will create a page for themselves, which includes writing their English name (with correct letter case), drawing a self-portrait or pasting a photo, and writing 2-3 greeting sentences they have learned. After completing the album, groups will present their works to the whole class—each member will stand up, use the greeting sentences to introduce themselves, and show their album page. Finally, the teacher will comment on each group's work, summarize the unit's key points, and encourage students to use English greetings in daily life. This project not only consolidates the unit's knowledge but also cultivates students' teamwork ability, hands-on ability, and oral English expression ability.

Greeting Interaction (2 minutes): The teacher walks into the classroom and greets students in English: "Good morning, class! Hello, boys and girls!" Encourage students to respond with "Good morning, teacher! Hello, teacher!". Then, the teacher randomly selects 3-4 students and asks: "Hi! What's your name?" Guide students to answer "My name is... / I'm...", and the teacher responds with "Nice to meet you." to practice the complete dialogue.

Alphabet Song Review (3 minutes): Play the 26 English letters song. Ask all students to stand up, follow the music, sing the song, and gesture the shape of each letter with their hands. After singing, the teacher shows a set of mixed uppercase and lowercase letter cards (e.g., "A", "b", "C", "d") on the screen, and asks students to read them aloud quickly to consolidate letter recognition and pronunciation.

Purpose

Create a relaxed English learning atmosphere through teacher-student greeting interaction, and quickly focus students' attention on English class.

Review the core greeting sentences and 26 English letters by singing the alphabet song and recognizing letter cards, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent project task.

5.2 Project Introduction & Task Assignment (7 minutes)

Teaching Activities

Introduce the Project Theme (3 minutes): The teacher shows a sample "Class Greeting Album" (made in advance) to the class. Open the album and introduce: "Look, everyone! This is a 'Class Greeting Album'. Each page has a classmate's English name, a photo or drawing, and greeting sentences. Today, we will work in groups to make our own 'Class Greeting Album'—it will be a special memory of our first English unit!"

Explain Task Requirements (2 minutes): The teacher writes the task requirements on the blackboard or shows them on the screen:

Each group (4-5 students per group) makes one album.

Each student in the group completes one page: write your English name (correct letter case), draw a self-portrait or paste a small photo, and write 2 greeting sentences (e.g., "Hello! I'm Lily. Nice to meet you.").

After completing the album, each group sends 1-2 representatives (or all members take turns) to present the album to the class: introduce each page's owner and read the greeting sentences.

Group Division & Task Discussion (2 minutes): Divide students into groups of 4-5 (considering students' English levels and personalities, ensuring each group has both active and quiet students). Ask groups to discuss briefly: Who will collect the paper (prepared by the teacher) for the album? Who will help classmates check the spelling of English names? How to decorate the album cover? The teacher walks around to guide groups that have difficulty in discussion.

Purpose

Stimulate students' interest in the project through the sample album, making students clear about the task content and requirements.

Help students establish a sense of teamwork through group discussion and task division, laying the page number 2
