Yours,
Li Hua
【答案】例文
Dear Jim,
How are you? You asked me about the Chinese “small talk” in your e-mail yesterday. Now let me tell you something about it.
In China, we often start small talk with different people—like neighbors when we meet in the community, colleagues at the office, or even strangers we run into, such as in a supermarket. Common opening questions are “Have you eaten yet?” or “What are you busy with these days?” These aren’t real requests for answers but warm ways to break the ice.
The topics usually stay light, like talking about family (how kids are doing), study (schoolwork for students), work (daily tasks), or health (if someone’s been feeling well). The point of small talk is to get closer to each other and make boring waits (like in lines) more pleasant by passing time. It’s all about being friendly!
Yours,
Li Hua
