Introduce the learning objectives of this period.

Step 2 Writing presentation and evaluation

1. Work in pairs to evaluate each other’s writing, using the checklist.

√ Is the introduction clear?

√ Does the writer include all the important points about the park?

√ Does the writer provide any additional information about the park?

√ Does the writer use -ing forms?

√ Does the writer use correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling?

2. Choose a few (2-3) students to read their writing to the class and give feedback.

3. Get the students to make some revision to improve the writing. 

Step 3 Assessing Your Progress

Activity 3 Vocabulary review and exercises

1. Revise the meaning and usage of the words in the box.

2. Read the passage and fill in the blanks with the correct forms of the words in the box. And then check the answers and give some explanations if necessary.

Answers: remote, vast, accompany, territory, fascinating, appeals to, blessed.

1. Revise the form and usage of v-ing used as subject briefly.

2. Answer these questions using the -ing form of the verb phrases in brackets.

1) What impressed you most when visiting Zhangye Danxia Geopark?

Seeing the colourful mountains and rocky landscape impressed me most.

2) What tops the list of tourists’ favourite activities in Zhangjiajie?

Admiring the magnificent landscape, taking a raft ride, and experiencing the local customs of the Tujia people and the Miao people top the list of tourists’ favourite activities in Zhangjiajie.

3) What do tourists like to do at Guilin’s Li River?

  Taking a boat tour and admiring the karst landscape are things that tourists like to do on Guilin’s Li River.

4) What activities would appeal to adventurous tourists in Lijiang, Yunnan Province?

Viewing glaciers at Yulong Snow Mountain and listening to the sound of rushing water at Tiger Leaping Gorge appeal to adventurous tourists in Lijiang, Yunnan Province.

1. Discuss the following two questions in pairs or groups.

1) What kind of theme park do you want to create? You can choose one of the ideas, or one of your own. (life in space/ocean/adventure/food/life in the future/local culture/science/birds and fish/history/stories/ dinosaurs/climbing)

2) What will your park offer visitors? Come up with at least three things for each category below, and give
