二、Teaching Objectives

四、Teaching Procedures

1. Warm - up (5 minutes)

- Teacher's Activity: Show some pictures about Daniel's hobbies from the reading passage (e.g., Daniel visiting a science museum, taking things apart). Ask students to describe the pictures using words they remember, and pay attention to the vowel sounds in those words. For example, "Daniel likes to take things apart." (Highlight the vowel sounds in "take", "things", "apart").

- Students' Activity: Describe the pictures and notice the vowel sounds in the words.

 

2. Presentation of Vowel Sounds (10 minutes)

- Teacher's Activity:

- Write the vowel sounds /æ/, /e/, /ɪ/, /ɒ/, /ʌ/ on the board.

- For each vowel sound, present the example words from the textbook (e.g., for /æ/: cap, cat, dad; for /e/: desk, egg, pen; for /ɪ/: big, city, him; for /ɒ/: box, dog, long; for /ʌ/: but, cup, duck).

- Play the audio for students to listen to the correct pronunciation of these words. Then ask students to repeat after the audio, paying attention to the short vowel sounds.

- Students' Activity:

- Listen to the teacher's presentation of vowel sounds and example words.

- Listen to the audio and repeat the words, focusing on the correct pronunciation of short vowels.

 

3. Practice: Classifying Words (8 minutes)

- Teacher's Activity:

- Guide students to do Exercise A in the textbook. Ask them to read the words (clock, club, fun, get, happy, listen, bad, often, swim, well) and put each one under the correct vowel sound.

- Walk around the classroom to check students' work and provide help. After most students finish, check the answers as a class.

- Students' Activity: Complete Exercise A by classifying words according to their vowel sounds.

 

4. Practice: Reading by Sound Groups (7 minutes)

- Teacher's Activity:

- Ask students to do Exercise B in the textbook. Have them look at the groups of words and read the new words according to the sound of the first word in each group (e.g., hand, habit, lab, mad; help, lend, test, wet; film, bill, risk, silk; hot, job, top, rock; mum, gun, just, luck).

- Invite some students to read the word groups aloud, and correct their pronunciations if necessary.
