The Yellow River is one of China’s most important and famous rivers. It lies in the northern part of China and flows through nine provinces, from Qinghai to Shandong. With a length of over 5,400 kilometres, it is the second longest river in our country—only shorter than the Yangtze River. Many villages and small towns are built near its banks. Local people have relied on it for thousands of years: they use its water to water crops like wheat and corn, and also for their daily life, such as washing and drinking. Because it has nurtured generations of Chinese people, some people call it “the mother river of China”.

Every weekend, kids love to play hide-and-seek under the big tree, while old people sit on nearby stone tables to play chess and chat. A clear river about 3 kilometres long runs beside the town. In summer, my friends and I often go to the shallow part of the river to catch small fish and play with water.
