My name is Christina. I'm an enthusiastic birdwatcher. Because we cut down too many trees in the nearby areas, many birds now find places within the city to live. The most common is the area behind the large advertisement boards on the polls. It's a natural choice for the birds because the polls are similar to trees, tall and far from dangers on the ground. The surprising thing is that there are likely more than five or six kinds of birds living together at each place. While trying to learn more about these birds, I find that there have not been any consistent studies were monitoring of them. They're eating habits, adaptation to life in the city, diseases, death rate and such other information are not available. I'd like to suggest that a programme be started to study these birds. IT could be convenient to employ birdwatchers to do the initial studies. Good evening. I'm honour to have my voice heard to make a difference in the lives of those little birds that share our city. Pop Mart: The Mystery Behind Blind Boxes
In the past decade, Pop Mart has revolutionized toy collecting through its innovative blind box concept. These small, sealed packages containing random collectible figures have created a global craze, particularly among
teenagers and young adults.
The Blind Box Phenomenon
Standard blind boxes are priced at ¥59-69 ($8-10) in China, while international markets see higher prices-up to $15 in the US and £12 in the UK. The excitement comes from not knowing which of the 12 possible figures
you'll get, with rare "hidden" versions appearing only once in every 144 boxes. This system has proven incredibly successful, with Pop Mart's 2024 revenue reaching ¥13 billion ($1.8 billion ).
Global Expansion Challenges
As Pop Mart expanded to over 30 countries, problems emerged. In London, a limited-edition Labubu release caused such crowding that police were called. Meanwhile, fake versions ofpopular figures flooded markets in
Southeast Asia, selling for half the price but with poor quality
Membership Benefits
To maintain customer loyalty, Pop Mart offers:
* 1 membership point per ¥1 spent
* Early access to new releases for Gold members (¥5,000+ annual spending)
* Increased chances ( from 1/ 144 to 1/72 ) of finding hidden figures when buying full sets
21. What makes blind boxes particularly attractive for buyers?
A. Their low cost. B. Their large size.
C. Their mysterious content. D. Their educational value.
22. Which benefit do Gold members receive when purchasing full sets of blind boxes?
A. Free shipping on all orders
B. Double membership points per purchase
C. Guaranteed hidden figure in every full set
D. Increased chance of finding hidden figures (from 1/ 144 to 1/72)
23. Based on the article, which ofthe best explains why this blind box model is so successful?
A. The high price of blind boxes ensures premium quality.
B. Pop Mart only sells limited-edition figures in certain countries.
C. The random nature and rarity of hidden figures create epeated purchases.
D. The company avoids international expansion to prevent counterfeit products.

"Hello. You are you and I am I. We are people, also known as humans. This makes us different from most of the things on Earth." This fairly straightforward observation is the opening spread of Like, written by Annie
Barrows. It establishes a somewhat odd yet matter-of-fact tone with a young boy addressing the reader.
Matters get morequizzicalorphilosophicalioprefeohe following spread, which carefully thinks about the ways in which people are different from one specifie thing on Earth, "We are not at all like tin cans. We are not shaped like tin cans. We cannot hold tomato sauce like tin cans. If you open up our lids, nothing good happens. We are not at all like tin cans. " The target audience will no doubt be amused, as was I, and perhaps reassured.
Like next matches people with the swimming pools, "We are a little bit more like a swimming pool than a tin can. We have water and chemicals and dirt inside us. But unlike a swimming pool we don't have people splashing around inside us. " Mushrooms, we learn, differ from tin cans and swimming pools by being alive, and by growing and reproducing-human traits, too! Mushrooms, however, don't have mouths and brains. But wait: Hyenas have all that."They run around really fast, like we do... But hyenas don't say words. They don't tell stories. They don't get embarrassed, even when they're caught eating something offthe ground."
Where to go from there?"Look at all these people,"the text exclaims over the illustration full ofpeople of
seemingly every size, shape, color, age and means of mobility. "They are not exactly like us. But they are more like us than they are different."
"I am more like you than I am like most of the things on Earth,"the narrator concludes."I'm glad. I'd rather be like you than a mushroom"-an appealing and inarguable understanding.
24. The tone of the book Like can best be described as
A. Serious and scientific
B. Playful and philosophical C. Dramatic and emotional D. Formal and instructional
25. The author compares humans to tin cans and swimming pools primarily to
A. Highlight the absurdity of human existence
B. Emphasize the biological similarities between humans and objects C. Engage young readers with humorous and relatable contrasts
D. Argue that humans are superior to all other things
26. The phrase "the target audience will no doubt be amused" (Paragraph 2) suggests that the book is aimed at
A. Children who enjoy playful comparisons B. Adults seeking philosophical insights
C. Scientists studying human behavior D. Teenagers interested in biology
27. What is the author's primary purpose in writing Like?
A. To encourage readers to reflect on human uniqueness while finding humor in comparisons
B. To scientifically classify the differences between humans and other organisms C. To argue that humans should adopt more traits from animals like hyenas
D. To provide a factual guide on the biological characteristics of mushrooms

For most people, having a balanced meal rich in carbohydrates and protein two to four hours before a workout will supply enough energy to last the length ofyour routine. This also allows ample time for digestion and can help reduce gastrointestinal discomfort like nausea, vomiting or acid reflux, said Dr. Martha Gulati, a cardiologist at
Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles who specializes in helping her patients make lifestyle changes through diet and exercise.
If you have a few hours before you plan to exercise, a pre-workout meal might include a high-quality protein (like salmon, chicken or tofu), a complex carbohydrate (like brown rice,oat- meal or sweet potatoes) and healthy
sources of fats (like avocado, eggs or nuts), said Dr. Cecilia Cordova Vallejos, a sports medicine physiatrist at Johns Hopkins Medicine.
Having a snack about 30 minutes before your workout will also give you an energy boost- especially if you're doing moderate or high-intensity exercise for longer than 90 minutes, Dr.Cordova Vallejos said. She recommended a protein bar or even just an energy gel packet because they are easy on the stomach.Dr.Gulati suggested a banana or a piece of your favorite fruit.
Once you're done with your workout, aim to consume protein - ideally 20 to 40 grams within two hours, the
International Society of Sports Nutrition recommends -to help support muscle growth and recovery. A can of tuna, a chicken breast or three scrambled eggs with cheese would each fall withn that range.
The timing ofyour meals may also depend on your health or fitness objectives. If you have a condition like diabetes where you must manage your blood sugar levels, the recommendations are a little more nuanced. Some research suggests that those with Type 2 diabetes may be better off having breakfast before they exercise. For
people with Type I diabetes, the suggestions may be different, Dr. Kanaley added. Some research suggests, for instance, that fasting before a moderate or high-intensity morning workout can be safe and potentially even
preferable for people with Type 1 diabetes, depending on your glucose levels upon waking.
28. According to Dr. Martha Gulati, what is the main benefit of eating a balanced meal 2~4 hours before exercise?
A. It enhances muscle growth during the workout. B. It helps avoid digestive issues like nausea.
C. It significantly boosts blood sugar levels.
D. It shortens the required digestion time.
29. What can be inferred about pre-workout snacks from Dr. Cordova Vallejos's suggestion?
A. They are only necessary for high-intensity workouts.
B. They should be rich in fats to provide long-lasting energy. C. They must include complex carbohydrates to be effective.
D. They are best consumed shortly before exercise for quick energy.
30. The underlined word nuanced most likely means .
A. simplified B. flexible C. complicated D. strict
31. What does the article suggest for people with Type 1 diabetes regarding morning workouts?
A. Fasting may be safe depending on their glucose levels. B. They must eat breakfast to prevent low blood sugar.
C. They should avoid moderate-intensity exercise entirely. D. Protein intake before exercise is strictly prohibited.

At one time, our growing population was seen as central to wildlife extinction, resource exhaustion, pollution and environmental destruction. But today, our concerns shift to declining birth rates duc to increased reproductive
choice for women.
This is a positive development, but is often described as a "crisis" in the media, highlighting economic and
senior care challenges. Lost in the conversation are the many positive aspects of an aging society, which is the result ofpeople living healthier and longer lives, and common-sense realities like reduced needs for infrastructure (基础 设施) and lower ecological impacts. Also lost is the fact that our population still grows by 80 million people every
year.
And the consequencesohighbirthratesare severe. Among them is global warming. In fact, increased emissions (排放) from population growth have canceled more than three quarters of the emissions saved through energy
efficiency and renewables over the past three decades.
Yet, no matter how well documented the link between population and climate, lowering our population is
notably absent from the conversation on solutions. Instead, the focus is on technology that will supposedly allow our entire growing population to enjoy the energy-intensive lifestyles now enjoyed by the rich, and with no climate impacts.
But "green" technology is not the solution it is advertised to be. Its expansion to the degree needed to power a growing population at a decent standard of living would itself require a shocking investment in fossil (化石) fuels. It also requires massive mining operations, many of which take place on the backs of low-wage workers in Africa where it is driving destruction of rainforests critical to the survival of great apes. Besides, it requires 10 times the land area as fossil fuel plants for the same amount of energy generated.
When global warming threatens to push billions into unsafe temperatures, it is no time to panic that we are
adding fewer to those billions. In fact, declining birth rates should be cause for celebration as they signify advances in gender equality and a reduced burden on Earth.
32. How much of the emissions saved through energy efficiency and renewables has been canceled by the growth?
A. Less than half B. About two-thirds C. More than three quarters D. Nearly 90 percent
33. Why does the author believe declining birth rates should be celebrated?
A. They immediately reduce carbon emissions
B. They reflect gender equality progress and reduce Earth's burden
C. They solve pension system challenges completely
D. They make green technology investments unnecessary
34. The author mentions "mining operations in Africa" primarily to:
A. Highlight the global cooperation needed for green technology
B. Expose the hidden environmental costs of renewable energy expansion C. Advocate for better working conditions in developing countries
D. Compare energy production methods between continents
35. The author's attitude toward "green technology" as a solution can best be described as:
A. Strongly supportive B. Completely neutral C. Skeptical and critical D. Cautiously optimistic

Recently, a research group from Linköping University in Sweden made big news. 1 They introduced a supercool flexible battery in the magazine Science Advances. What's so special about it? This new battery turns
traditional solid -state electrodes into something that looks just like toothpaste! 2
Ayman Rahmanian, one of the main researchers, said this soft battery is a game - changer. 3 Rigid batteries often limit how we design electronic devices, especially wearable ones. Think about smartwatches or fitness trackers-we want them to be small and bendy, but old -style batteries are too big and stiff. 4 It works well even if it's stretched to twice its length and after more than 500 charge -discharge cycles
Another cool thing is that we can 3D - print it into different shapes. 5 For example, future smart clothes could use this battery to monitor our heart rate or body temperature. Skin -displays might show messages right on our arms!
This amazing invention will surely change the future of flexible electronics. It's exciting to think about all the new gadgets we might see soon.
A. This innovation marks a major breakthrough in energy storage technology. B. The battery maintains stable performance even when stretched repeatedly. C. 3D printing enables custom shapes for various electronic applications.
D. Its flexible design allows seamless integration into wearable devices. E. Researchers achieved this by rethinking traditional battery materials. F. Such flexibility could transform how we use everyday electronics.
G. Unlike rigid batteries, it adapts perfectly to moving surfaces.

Changes in Life
I was 16 years old and a junior in high school, and the worst possible thing that could happen to me did. My parents decided to move our family from our Texas home to Arizona. I had two weeks to wrap up all of my "business" and move before school began. I had to leave my first job, my boyfriend and my best friend behind, and try to start a new life. I despised my parents for ruining my life.
I told everyone that I did not want to live in Arizona and would be returning to Texas the first chance I had. When I arrived in Arizona, I made sure everyone knew that I had a boyfriend and best friendwaiting for me in Texas. I was
determined to keep my distance from everyone; I would just be leaving soon anyway.
The first day of school came, and I was miserable. I could only think of my friends in Texas and how I wished I could be with them. For a while, I felt that my life was over. Eventually though, things got a little better.
It was in my second period accounting class where I first saw him. He was tall, trim and really goodlooking. He had the most beautiful blue eyes I had ever seen. He was sitting just three seats away from me in the same front row of class. Feeling I had nothing to lose, I decided to talk to him.
"Hi, my name is Sheila; what's yours?" I asked with a Texas drawl. The guy next to him thought that I was asking him. "Mike."
"Oh, hi, Mike," I humored him. "What's your name?" I asked again, focusing my attention on this blue-eyed boy. He looked behind him, not believing that I could be asking him for his name. "Chris," he responded quietly.
"Hi, Chris!" I smiled. Then I went about my work.
Chris and I became friends. We enjoyed talking to each other in class. Chris was a jock, and I was in the school
band; in high school, peer pressure demanded that the two groups did not mix socially. Our paths crossed occasionally at school functions; but for the most part, our friendship remained within the four classroom walls of accounting class.
Chris graduated that year, and we went our separate ways for a while.

"Hello. You are you and I am I.We are people, also known as humans. This makes us different from most of
the things on Earth."This fairly straightforward observation is the opening spread of Like, written by Annie
Barrows. It establishes a somewhat odd yet matter-of-fact tone with a young boy addressing the reader.
Matters get morequizzicalorphilosophicalioprefeohe following spread, which carefully thinks about the ways
in which people are different from one specifie thing on Earth,"We are not at all like tin cans.We are not shaped
like tin cans.We cannot hold tomato sauce like tin cans.If you open up our lids, nothing good happens. We are not
at all like tin cans."The target audience will no doubt be amused,as was I,and perhaps reassured.
Like next matches people with the swimming pools,"We are a little bit more like a swimming pool than a tin
can.We have water and chemicals and dirt inside us.But unlike a swimming pool we don't have people splashing
around inside us."Mushrooms,we learn, differ from tin cans and swimming pools by being alive, and by growing
and reproducing-human traits, too!Mushrooms, however, don't have mouths and brains. But wait:Hyenas have all
that."They run around really fast,like we do...But hyenas don't say words.They don't tell stories.They don't get
embarrassed, even when they're caught eating something off the ground."
Where to go from there?"Look at all these people,"the text exclaims over the illustration full of people of
seemingly every size, shape, color, age and means of mobility."They are not exactly like us.But they are more like
us than they are different."
"I am more like you than I am like most of the things on Earth,"the narrator concludes."I'm glad.I'd rather be
like you than a mushroom"-an appealing and inarguable understanding.
24.The tone of the book Like can best be described as
A.Serious and scientific
B.Playful and philosophical
C.Dramatic and emotional
D.Formal and instructional
25.The author compares humans to tin cans and swimming pools primarily to
A.Highlight the absurdity of human existence
B.Emphasize the biological similarities between humans and objects
C.Engage young readers with humorous and relatable contrasts
D.Argue that humans are superior to all other things
26.The phrase "the target audience will no doubt be amused"(Paragraph 2)suggests that the book is aimed at
A.Children who enjoy playful comparisons
B.Adults seeking philosophical insights
C.Scientists study ing human behavior
D.Teenagers interested in biology
27.What is the author's primary purpose in writing Like?
A.To encourage readers to reflect on human uniqueness while finding humor in comparisons
B.To scientifically classify the differences between humans and other organisms
C.To argue that humans should adopt more traits from animals like hyenas
D.To provide a factual guide on the biological characteristics of mushrooms

For most people, having a balanced meal rich in carbohydrates and protein two to four hours before a workout
will supply enough energy to last the length of your routine. This also allows ample time for digestion and can help
reduce gastrointestinal discomfort like nausea, vomiting or acid reflux, said Dr.Martha Gulati,a cardiologist at
Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles who specializes in helping her patients make lifestyle changes through diet and
exercise.
If you have a few hours before you plan to exercise,a pre-workout meal might include a high-quality protein
(like salmon, chicken or tofu),a complex carbohydrate (like brown rice,oat-meal or sweet potatoes)and healthy
sources of fats(like avocado, eggs or nuts),said Dr.Cecilia Cordova Vallejos,a sports medicine physiatrist at Johns
Hopkins Medicine.
Having a snack about 30 minutes before your workout will also give you an energy boost-especially if you're
doing moderate or high-intensity exercise for longer than 90 minutes,Dr.Cordova Vallejos said. She recommended
a protein bar or even just an energy gel packet because they are easy on the stomach.Dr.Gulati suggested a banana
or a piece of your favorite fruit.
Once you're done with your workout, aim to consume protein-ideally 20 to 40 grams within two hours, the
International Society of Sports Nutrition recommends-to help support muscle growth and recovery.A can of tuna,a
chicken breast or three scrambled eggs with cheese would each fall withn that range.
The timing of your meals may also depend on your health or fitness objectives. If you have a condition like
diabetes where you must manage your blood sugar levels, the recommendations are a little more nuanced. Some
research suggests that those with Type 2 diabetes may be better off having breakfast before they exercise. For
people with Type I diabetes,the suggestions may be different,Dr.Kanaley added.Some research suggests,for
instance, that fasting before a moderate or high-intensity morning workout can be safe and potentially even
preferable for people with Type 1 diabetes, depending on your glucose levels upon waking.
28.According to Dr.Martha Gulati, what is the main benefit of eating a balanced meal 2~4 hours before exercise?
A.It enhances muscle growth during the workout.
B.It helps avoid digestive issues like nausea.
C.It significantly boosts blood sugar levels.
D.It shortens the required digestion time.
29.What can be inferred about pre-workout snacks from Dr.Cordova Vallejos's suggestion?
A.They are only necessary for high-intensity workouts.
B.They should be rich in fats to provide long-lasting energy.
C.They must include complex carbohydrates to be effective.
D.They are best consumed shortly before exercise for quick energy.
30.The underlined word nuanced most likely means
A.simplified
B.flexible
C.complicated
D.strict
31.What does the article suggest for people with Type 1 diabetes regarding morning workouts?
A.Fasting may be safe depending on their glucose levels.
B.They must eat breakfast to prevent low blood sugar.
C.They should avoid moderate-intensity exercise entirely.
D.Protein intake before exercise is strictly prohibited.

At one time, our growing population was seen as central to wildlife extinction, resource exhaustion, pollution and
environmental destruction. But today, our concerns shift to declining birth rates duc to increased reproductive
choice for women
This is a positive development, but is often described as a "crisis"in the media, highlighting economic and
senior care challenges.Lost in the conversation are the many positive aspects of an aging society, which is the result
of people living healthier and longer lives, and common-sense realities like reduced needs for infrastructure
and lower ecological impacts. Also lost is the fact that our population still grows by 80 million people every
year.
And the consequencesohighbirthratesare severe.Among them is global warming. In fact, increased emissions
()from population growth have canceled more than three quarters of the emissions saved through energy
efficiency and renewables over the past three decades.
Yet,no matter how well documented the link between population and climate, lowering our population is
notably absent from the conversation on solutions.Instead, the focus is on technology that will supposedly allow
our entire growing population to enjoy the energy-intensive lifestyles now enjoyed by the rich, and with no climate
impacts.
But "green"technology is not the solution it is advertised to be.Its expansion to the degree needed to power a
growing population at a decent standard of living would itself require a shocking investment in fossil (fuels.
It also requires massive mining operations, many of which take place on the backs of low-wage workers in Africa
where it is driving destruction of rainforests critical to the survival of great apes.Besides,it requires 10 times the
land area as fossil fuel plants for the same amount of energy generated.
When global warming threatens to push billions into unsafe temperatures,it is no time to panic that we are
adding fewer to those billions. In fact, declining birth rates should be cause for celebration as they signify advances
in gender equality and a reduced burden on Earth.
32.How much of the emissions saved through energy efficiency and renewables has been canceled by the growth?
A.Less than half B.About two-thirds C.More than three quarters D.Nearly 90 percent
33.Why does the author believe declining birth rates should be celebrated?
A.They immediately reduce carbon emissions
B.They reflect gender equality progress and reduce Earth's burden
C.They solve pension system challenges completely
D.They make green technology investments unnecessary
34.The author mentions"mining operations in Africa"primarily to:
A.Highlight the global cooperation needed for green technology
B.Expose the hidden environmental costs of renewable energy expansion
C.Advocate for better working conditions in developing countries
D.Compare energy production methods between continents
35.The author's attitude toward"green technology"as a solution can best be described as:
A.Strongly supportive B.Completely neutral C.Skeptical and critical D.Cautiously optimistic

Recently,a research group from Linkoping University in Sweden made big news.1 They introduced a
supercool flexible battery in the magazine Science Advances. What's so special about it?This new battery turns
traditional solid -state electrodes into something that looks just like toothpaste!2
Ayman Rahmanian, one of the main researchers, said this soft battery is a game-changer.3 Rigid
batteries often limit how we design electronic devices, especially wearable ones.Think about smartwatches or
fitness trackers-we want them to be small and bendy, but old-style batteries are too big and stiff.4 It
works well even if it's stretched to twice its length and after more than 500 charge-discharge cycles
Another cool thing is that we can 3D-print it into different shapes.5 For example, future smart
clothes could use this battery to monitor our heart rate or body temperature.Skin-displays might show messages
right on our arms!
This amazing invention will surely change the future of flexible electronics. It's exciting to think about all the
new gadgets we might see soon.
A.This innovation marks a major breakthrough in energy storage technology.
B.The battery maintains stable performance even when stretched repeatedly
C.3D printing enables custom shapes for various electronic applications.
D.Its flexible design allows seamless integration into wearable devices.
E.Researchers achieved this by rethinking traditional battery materials.
F.Such flexibility could transform how we use everyday electronics.
G.Unlike rigid batteries,it adapts perfectly to moving surfaces.

Dear Office Staff,
I hope this email finds you well.I am writing to follow up on the complaint I submitted last week concerning
the ongoing noise disturbances caused by my roommate's frequent late-night parties.Unfortunately, the situation
has not improved, and it is significantly impacting my ability to rest and focus on my studies.
As an international student participating in this Cultural Exchange Camp,I deeply value the opportunity to
learn and share experiences with others. However, the lack of quiet during nighttime has made it challenging for me
to adapt and maintain a healthy routine.I understand the importance of cultural differences and social activities, but
I believe a balance can be found to respect everyone's needs.
I kindly request your urgent intervention to mediate this matter, whether through a discussion with my
roommate or by arranging a room reassignment if necessary.Your prompt attention to this issue would be greatly
appreciated,as I am eager to resolve it amicably and continue enjoying the camp's activities.
Thank you for your time and support.I look forward to your response.
Best regards,
Li Hua

Paragraph 1:Then one day,he came to see me while I was working in a store in the mall.I was very happy to see
him.He went on my breaks with me,and we started talking again. The pressure from his jock friends had subsided,
and we became very close friends. My relationship with my boyfriend in Texas had become less important to me.I
felt my bond with Chris growing stronger, taking the place of my relationship in Texas.
Paragraph 2:It had been a year since I moved from Texas, and Arizona was starting to feel like home.Chris
escorted me to my senior prom;we triple-dated with two of his jock friends and their dates. The night of my prom
changed our relationship forever;I was accepted by his friends, and that made Chris feel more comfortable.
Finally, our relationship was in the open.Chris was a very special person to me during such a difficult time in my
life. Our relationship eventually blossomed into a very powerful love.I now understand that my parents did not
move the family to Arizona to hurt me,although at the time,it sure felt as though they had.I now firmly believe
that everything happens for a reason. For had I not moved to Arizona,I never would have met the man of my
dreams
