Zhong discovered the SARS coronavirus back in 2003 and played an important role in the country’s fight against the epidemic as a leading scientist. Florence Nightingale Born: December 30, 1930 Tu Youyou is one of the greatest pharmaceutical scientists in China, as well as a Nobel Prize laureate (获得者) in Physiology or Medicine. Tu discovered artemisinin back in the 1970s and played a vital role in the global fight against malaria as a leading scientist. She is seen as one of the most respected and groundbreaking figures in modern medicine, saving millions of lives worldwide. Born: Aug. 6, 1881 Died: Mar. 11, 1955 Alexander Fleming was a Scottish bacteriologist (细菌学家) and Nobel Prize winner, best known for his discovery of penicillin. He is one of the most influential people of the 20th century. Alexander Fleming Born: Aug. 31, 1922 Died: May 22, 2021 Wu Mengchao was a Chinese hepatobiliary surgeon (肝胆外科医生) and a recipient of the National Highest Science and Technology Award, best known for his pioneering work in hepatobiliary surgery.
