Today is the 10th day since I came to Wuxi from London.
At lunch, my friend Zhao Min said, “Shirley, try eating xiaolongbao like a local!” I picked one up with chopsticks, but the dumpling broke, and hot soup sprayed onto my classmate Chen Dan’s shirt. He jumped up and shouted, “British attack” Everyone in the dining hall laughed.
In Chinese class, our teacher asked us to talk about hobbies. I wanted to say, “I like painting scenery (fengjing)”, but I accidentally said fengzheng instead. The teacher smiled and said, “Hmm… That’s interesting” Now my friend Zhang Ke keeps saying, “Show me your kite art!”
The funniest part was PE class. We played jianzi. On my first try, I kicked it so hard that it flew onto the roof The coach shook his head, but Zhao Min whispered, “Use your shoe like this” I tried again and kicked it 3 times Everyone cheered. I felt so proud!

(2025·江苏盐城·中考真题)In a project called “My Kitchen Journey”, three students from Sunshine Middle School share their experiences of learning to cook.
I’ve been taking cooking classes at school. I’m still crazy about making food, even though it’s not always easy. Those cooking skills I’ve learnt are useful, especially when I have to make a meal with limited things. I’ve realized that to eat well, you need to keep learning to cook new dishes, not just a few dishes. Imagine you’re a musician—people will get tired of hearing even a great song, if it’s the only one you can play. The same goes for cooking.
I love watching my mum mix different things to make delicious dishes. I don’t think we need to stick to recipes (食谱) strictly. And what matters is just trying things out. So when I cook, I often try something new and take notes of what I’ve done and what I’ve used—a bit like what I do in my Science classes! I’ve learnt a lot of cooking skills, but I know I still have more to learn.
Helping in the kitchen is fun. I can make simple things like pies for everyone. But I often make a mess. Once, I even served my pie without the sauce! My family are patient. They’ve given me the confidence to learn more cooking skills. Books help me a lot in my learning. I like to read cooking books in my room and go to the kitchen when I think I can manage some key recipes well.
149.According to Simon, what should we do to eat well?
A.Be a musician. B.Play a great song.
C.Cook more new dishes. D.Buy more cooking books.
150.Why does Amy think cooking is similar to studying Science?
A.She tests her dishes in a lab. B.She follows Mum’s suggestions.
C.She cooks with Math skills. D.She keeps trying and taking notes.
151.How does Daniel improve his cooking?
A.By reading and practicing. B.By taking cooking classes.
C.By watching his mum cook. D.By making delicious sauce.
152.What plays an important role in all the three cooking experiences?
A.Mixing different things. B.Learning cooking skills.
C.Reading different books. D.Having cooking lessons.
(2025·江苏淮安·中考真题)(“I” am a horse, the main character in the novel.)
A horse fair was an interesting place. Many people went there to sell horses. You could see many kinds of young and strong horses. There were also poor and thin horses and they were worn out because of hard work.
One day, the seller took me there. He wanted to sell me at a high price. I didn’t know if I would be lucky enough to meet a master who would treat me well.
Then a man with a gentle voice came to us. He wanted to buy me at a low price, but the seller refused.
Shortly after, a tall man with a very loud voice came. He walked around me and I was afraid he would buy me. Luckily, he walked away.
After a few minutes, the man with a gentle voice came back. I was very happy to see him again.
“I’ll give twenty-four pounds. Can you sell the horse to me?” he said.
“OK! Take it,” said the seller. “He’s a quality one and if you want him for work, he’s a good choice.”
Half an hour later, we left for the new home, along country roads, until we came to the city. My new home was in a narrow street. On one side of the street, there were some small, old houses. On the other, there were some stables (马厩).
We stopped in front of a house. My new master whistled (吹口哨). The door opened. A young woman, a little girl and a boy, came out. They all looked at me.
“Is he gentle, Father?” the girl asked.
“Yes, Dolly, as gentle as a cat. You can touch him.”
She touched my shoulder, whispering sweetly, “Welcome, my new friend.”
The gentle touch and soft voice comforted me so much! They led me into a comfortable, clean stable, with plenty of food. After a meal, I lay down, thinking “I’m going to be very happy here.”

Jack lies on his bed. His window is open but there isn’t a breath of air. He lifts a heavy hand and looks at his mobile. There are three new messages.
He clicks on the first one. It is from Zadie.

As a proud grizzly bear, I say hello from Alaska. We eat anything we can get our paws on. One of my favourite meals is catching fresh salmon. There’s nothing quite like the pleasure of a stomach full of fresh fish!
I’m a blue whale. I may eat up to 3.6 million krill (磷虾) per day! You may wonder why such huge animals live on such tiny food? It’s because our mouths only have rows of baleen (鲸须). It lets water flow out while holding in tiny things.
I’m a hummingbird. We eat flower nectar (蜜). We fly around a few thousand flowers each day to get as much food as possible. As we move our wings really fast, we burn through energy fast. So we need to keep feeding.
Hello~from~a~sloth~in~the~South~America! Our favorite food? Low-energy leaves! Do we eat a lot? No. We slow-movers don’t need a lot of energy. Even our stomachs work so slowly that after a meal, we’re too tired to do anything but... sleep!

(2025·江苏连云港·中考真题)An hour before the show, the backstage (后台) was busy and noisy. Young male Peking Opera artists in their 20s were applying makeup, adjusting costumes, stretching, and clearing their throats. The air was filled with the sounds of traditional Chinese instruments.
“These young people started learning with me when they were just kids—now they’re adults, leading the shows themselves,” says Yang Shaochun, an 85-year-old Peking Opera master.
This weekend, four shows will be put on at Beijing People’s Theatre. Young wuxi artists will play the lead roles.
Wuxi, or martial (武术的) play, is the base of the fighting and movement part in Peking Opera. Wei Pengyu, a 29-year-old actor, was attracted to Peking Opera as a child—not by the music or stories at first, but by the colorful, amazing facial masks that brought the characters to life. At 14, he began training in Peking Opera, especially in wusheng—a male role type. “For me, stepping into the role of a hero is a dream come true,” he says.
“Playing wuxi isn’t just about action—it’s about expressing the character’s courage, justice (正义), loyalty and strength through movements,” says Xu Zhouyi, 25, another male actor.
Later that evening, a classic piece San Cha Kou was played by two young actors, Wu Zeyu and Shu Jiaxing. The viewers were attracted to the great scene and cheered for the actors’ excellent martial art movements.
Wu and Shu practiced together for nearly a year. “San Cha Kou is a test of trust between two actors. We have to read each other’s energy—know when one is speeding up or slowing down. Every movement must be perfectly counted to avoid real crashes while still looking dangerous,” says Wu.
169.What does the underlined part mean in Paragraph 1?
A.Asking the master for help. B.Getting ready for the show.
C.Having a martial art lesson. D.Learning a new instrument.

A.Practice makes perfect. B.One is never too old to learn.
C.Great hopes make great man. D.Friends should be few but good.
172.What is a suitable title for the text?
A.Wuxi movements impress viewers B.Young actors shine in Peking Opera
C.Wuxi actors celebrate after graduating D.A Peking Opera master opens a school

(2025·江苏徐州·中考真题)On a Monday morning in Amsterdam, the work day began as usual for Jim. When finishing his coffee, Jim checked text messages on his phone. Then, he got his bag and went to the nearest railway station. He wasn’t there to take the train, though. Instead, Jim chose one of the public bicycles lined up outside the station. After unlocking a bike with a smart card, he set out for his job on the other side of the city. He joined other cyclists in the bike lanes (道), safely separated from car traffic.
Amsterdam wasn’t always bicycle friendly. In fact, cycling used to be dangerous, especially during the second half of the twentieth century. This was a time of rapid growth in Amsterdam. As people got richer, they were able to afford expensive goods such as cars. For the first time, driving became popular. Highways were built for cars. This meant there was less space for cyclists. Having had a long tradition of cycling, this was a big change for the city. As car traffic increased, so did the number of biking accidents. Many of the cyclists were children.
People in Amsterdam were angry. They organized protests (抗议) in the city streets. Government officers listened. Hoping to solve the problem quickly, they started to think of ways to make the city safe for cyclists again. Soon there were separate bike lanes, and some areas were closed to cars forever. The changes were so effective (有效的) that today Amsterdam is a model of biking safety for other cities around the world.
179.How does the writer start the passage?
A.By comparing two places. B.By describing a scene.
C.By answering a question. D.By listing a number.
180.Why did Jim go to the nearest railway station on work day morning?
A.To work there. B.To take the train. C.To see a friend. D.To ride a bike.
181.What does the passage tell about Amsterdam?
A.It has no highways for cars. B.It is always bicycle friendly.
C.It seldom sees changes. D.It is famous for biking safety.
182.What type of book is the passage probably taken from?
A.Science fiction. B.Romantic novel. C.City culture. D.Detective story.
(2025·江苏宿迁·中考真题)
Where does the water in our homes come from? How do people change sea water into fresh water? How does water come into our homes? This passage will answer these questions.
In most places, people get their water from lakes and rivers. The water is usually seen all year round. In some places, people get their water from under the ground. They use wells to get the water. In some other places, windmills (风车) are used to get water from under the ground. In some country areas away from the city water supply, people collect rainwater that falls on their roofs (房顶). Pipes from the roofs lead the water into tanks (罐子). The water from rainwater tanks is usually clean enough to drink.
In some countries that are in need of water, fresh water is made from sea water in special treatment factories. This is called desalination (脱盐). In most treatment factories, salt water is heated until it turns into steam (蒸汽) and the salt is left behind. When the steam is cooled, it becomes fresh water. Only a little salt is left in the fresh water. This makes the water taste better and also stops the pure water taking salts and minerals (矿物质) out of our bodies.
Have you seen tanks or towers on the tops of buildings? These tanks or towers are used for storing clean water. Before the water is put into these tanks or towers, it goes to a water treatment factory. Some water from rivers or lakes is not clean. If we drink it directly, we may be ill. In the water treatment factory, workers make the water clean and safe for people to drink. Then pipes bring the water to our homes.
Water is very important for all living things, but sometimes there is not enough water. We should use water wisely.
183.How does the writer begin the passage?
A.By comparing ideas. B.By giving examples.
C.By asking questions. D.By explaining reasons.
184.Where do people in most places get water from?
A.Lakes and rivers. B.Lakes and underground water.
C.Rivers and rainwater. D.Rainwater and underground water.
185.What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 3 refer to (指代)?
A.Rainwater. B.Salt water. C.Fresh water. D.Pure water.
186.What are tanks or towers used for according to the passage?
A.Storing salt. B.Storing pipes. C.Storing minerals. D.Storing clean water.
(2025·江苏扬州·中考真题)Inside the hall, the door was shut, and the key lay on the glass stand. Poor Alice, who was about one foot high after taking some drink, found a cake on the floor. She went up and soon ate all the cake.
“How strange! How tall I am!” said Alice. She looked down at her feet—they seemed so far off. In fact, she was now over nine feet high, which meant she still couldn’t get through the door. She sat down, and had a good cry till there was a large pool all round her.
Suddenly, she heard the sound of feet not far off. It was the Rabbit that had come back, with a fan in his hand. Alice felt so in need of help from someone, that when he came near, she called out, “If you please, sir....” The Rabbit started as if shot, dropped the fan and ran off as fast as possible.
Alice picked up the fan and as the hall was hot, she fanned herself. “Dear, dear! How strange all things are today! I do wish to get out of the hall! ” she said.
Then she noticed herself in the glass—she was now not more than two feet high, and still shrinking quite fast. That was the fan! She realized this and dropped it at once, or she would shrink to the size of an ant soon.
Alice was in a sad fear at the quick change. “Things are worse,” said the poor girl, “I was never so small as this. How can I get out?” As she said these words, she lost her footsteps and was up to her chin (下巴) in salt water—her own tears.
Just then Alice noticed a mouse swimming towards her.
“Will it be useful now to speak to this mouse? All things are so strange here. I should think maybe it can talk. At least there’s no harm to try.” So she swam up.

Among all types of paper, Xuan paper has earned a special place in Chinese culture. The history of Xuan paper dates back to the Tang Dynasty. At that time, paper was produced in Xuancheng, Jingxian, Ningguo and Taiping. They were counties (县) under the jurisdiction (管辖范围) of Xuanzhou. Among them, the paper made in Jingxian was the best for its excellent qualities. Since most paper distribution (分发) centers were in Xuancheng, the paper was then known as Xuan paper.
Xuan paper is made from the bark (树皮) of the blue sandalwood (檀香木) tree and rice straw. The process (过程) of making it includes many procedures like washing, boiling, and drying. Each step needs a lot of time and care. The final product is soft, thin but strong. It doesn’t tear (扯破) easily and can take in a lot of ink. Xuan paper is not only a material for art but also a cultural symbol. It represents the rich heritage (遗产) of the arts in Chinese history. Even in today’s modern world, Xuan paper continues to hold an important position in Chinese art and cultural traditions. The sun hung low, brushing gold over the empty area. The air buzzed (喧闹)—not with insects, but with voices, cameras, and the weight of something about to begin.
Roy’s heart beat like a drum. He looked out at the people gathering for the pancake house ground-breaking ceremony (仪式). Behind him stood the company men and the reporters. And under his feet—hidden underground—were the tiny burrows (洞穴) of the owls.
No sign marked them. No fence protected them. They asked nothing, made no sound, yet now heavy machines waited, ready to destroy (破坏) their living area.
He thought of Mullet Fingers, the wild boy who cared about animals more than himself. He thought of brave Beatrice who helped even when it was hard. Roy had tried to stay out of trouble. He liked quiet. But now, staying quiet didn’t feel right.
He stepped up to the microphone (话筒).
“Excuse me,” he said, voice shaking. “Before you dig…you should know the truth.”
The crowd (人群) grew quiet.
“There are owls living here,” Roy said. “They’re small. They’re scared. And if you build here, you’ll destroy their homes.”
Someone in the crowd laughed. A reporter asked, “How do you know that?”
“Because I saw them. I stood right there and watched them. They live here. They belong here. And they matter.”
The manager stepped forward, “This is not your business, kid.”
Roy turned to face him. His fear turned into something else—strength.
“It’s my business. It’s everyone’s business. We can’t just destroy what we don’t see. Progress should not come at the cost of wonder,” he said.
His hands stopped shaking. People in the crowd began whispering. One mother held her child’s hand. A teacher nodded. Even the manager looked uncertain.
Roy didn’t know what would happen next. But he did what he could. He spoke the truth.
Roy used to be scared. But doing the right thing made him stronger.
Sometimes, doing what you can is enough to shift (改变) the wind.

201.Why was Roy speaking to the crowd at the ceremony?
A.To raise money for wildlife. B.To protect the owls’ living area.

A.Extra cost should be paid to protect nature.
B.There’s nothing more important than progress.

(2025·江苏苏州·中考真题)A medical breakthrough in China is giving new hope to people with spinal cord injuries (脊髓损伤). Scientists have created a brain-spinal chip (芯片) that allows paralyzed (瘫痪的) patients to move their legs, and even walk again.
The chip, only 1mm wide, is designed to be fitted into the brain and spinal cord. If the natural communication between the brain and muscles (肌肉) is lost, this chip becomes the bridge. When the chips work, they create a direct connection between the brain and muscles.
The results have been amazing. A 34-year-old man, paralyzed after a fall, could move his legs just one day after the operation on January 8, 2025. Two weeks later, he walked five meters with help. Three other patients had similar operations in February and March, all getting better within weeks. Even though the patients’ nervous systems were damaged (受损), the chips helped them walk again. This marks a big step in China’s progress in medical science and it brings hope for over 3.7 million people in China.
“This is just the beginning,” Jia, the lead researcher, says. “With the technology, these people may one day leave wheelchairs behind after 3 to 5 years of training.”
Behind this achievement is a long journey of careful research and bold thinking. It took the researchers over 10 years to develop the chip. They tested it on animals first, and then on people. They faced many challenges, yet they never gave up. Step by step, they developed a system to reconnect the mind and body in ways once appearing only in science fiction.
As the chip continues to improve, it lights a new path forward—one built on science, shaped by care, and aimed toward a brighter future.

(2025·江苏苏州·中考真题)Want to know what your friends are really like? Take a look at their music playlist. More than 36,000 people, from all over the world, took part in an experiment (实验). It compared their personalities with how much they liked different musical styles. The results show that personalities do influence what we listen to. Here’s what certain musical styles say about who you are.
Rock
Like the sound of loud guitars and heavy drum beats? This type of music sounds very exciting, but fans of it are often quite gentle.
Country music
If cowboy hats and guitars get you singing along, it’s possible that you’re hard-working, preferring traditional styles and values.
Jazz
Fans of this strong music always come up with new ideas and are good at learning. If you like the saxophone of John Coltrane, then you’re probably self-confident and easy to get on with.
Classical music
If Beethoven and Mozart have you turning up the music, you’re probably quiet, but happy with who you are and comfortable with the world around you.
But the experiment didn’t tell the whole story: where we grow up, who we often go out with, and our personal experiences play into our taste, too. The songs you choose to be part of your life make you different from others. But no matter what style you like, music is for everyone. And enjoying different types of music lets you get a taste of cultures you might not have experienced before. So experiment with your playlist!
213.What influences our musical taste according to the experiment?
A.Personalities. B.Friends. C.Parents. D.Instruments.
214.According to the passage, if Daniel is creative, what may be found in his playlist?

This is a tale of a lonely old woman. She lived in the white North. There, the night is long in winter and the day is long in summer.
The old woman lived alone in a small village. The villagers took good care of her, but she was still unhappy. She wanted a child of her own.
One winter day, she walked out and saw a small white animal on the ice. It was a baby bear. The bear looked small and felt very cold. The old woman spoke softly to the bear, “Poor little thing. Come with me.” Then she carried him home.
Inside her house, the old woman held the bear close until he was warm. She touched him gently and sang to him softly. He felt comfortable in her arms. From that day, when the old woman ate, she fed the little bear from her hand. When she slept, the bear slept beside her. They were a family now. The village children loved the bear too. They played together.
Time passed quickly and the bear grew big and strong. One day, some villagers said to him, “Little Bear, go hunting with us. We’ll teach you how to hunt.” The bear followed them. Soon the bear became a better hunter than the villagers.
When the weather was bad, everyone stayed indoors. Then the bear went out into the snow and brought home enough food for the whole village. The old woman felt proud of him.
One day, some villagers said to the old woman, “The bear has grown big and strong enough. He is a good hunter now. You’d better let him go back to the wild.”
In the following days, the old woman was quiet, thinking. She thought aloud, “The bear belongs to the wild. I should let him go.”
Finally, she said to the bear, “It’s time for you to leave. Be safe. Be free.” She put her arms around his neck. Her tears ran into his fur. She was heartbroken.
The bear walked slowly away from her and looked back again and again. Then he disappeared. When darkness fell, the old woman still stood there. Once more, she was alone.
A long time passed. The winter came again. One day, the old woman stood at the same place for a long time. The wind blew snow around her face. Suddenly, the white bear appeared and ran to her.

(2025·江苏常州·中考真题)Creativity is hard to describe. On the one hand, we know people make creative breakthroughs when they have persistence (坚持). On the other hand, most of us give up when we get stuck on a problem, believing that our creativity gets weaker over time.
In fact, research shows that the longer we stick to a single problem or task, the more creative we get. One key reason for this is the “series order effect (效应).” That is to say, each later creative idea is always better than the previous (之前的) one.
Some business companies fail to understand this point. Silicon Valley (硅谷) prizes youth over experience, believing that “people under 35 are those who make changes happen” while “people over 45 cannot create new ideas.” But many businessmen succeed in their 40s and beyond because they have repeatedly failed. The creators of the top highest-growth new companies are, in fact, around 45 years old.
Scientific talents show a similar feature. Scientists usually do their best work near age 40. Nobel Prize winners and inventors also do much of their best work from their late 30s to mid-40s. Early success is great because it’s unusual, but the best way to achieve a breakthrough is to get stuck and get unstuck over and over again.
The “series order effect” works not just at the personal level but also at the level of companies and markets. Different from the belief in business that you have to be first, many of the most successful companies are those that have gone through early failures. For example, Google succeeded after twenty-two failures. Success can come when you have tried two, three, or even twenty-two times. Novelty (原创能力) is overvalued.
Persistence, however, is undervalued (低估). So, the next time you’re stuck, remember: “You’re more creative than you think you are.”
225.Which of the examples goes against the writer’s point of view (观点)?
A.Silicon Valley.
B.The creators of the top highest-growth new companies.
C.Scientific talents like Nobel Prize winners.
D.Google.
226.What can we know about the “series order effect” from the 5th paragraph?
A.It doesn’t work for big businesses.
B.It proves novelty is unnecessary.
C.It shows the importance of a good beginning.
D.It explains why failure is common and acceptable.
227.What is the main idea of this article?
A.Creativity is hard to describe.
B.Creativity becomes weaker as time goes.
C.Creativity is undervalued.
D.Creativity comes from persistence.
(2025·江苏常州·中考真题)For those whose hearts often go off beat, pacemakers (心脏起搏器) are life savers. By providing a small electrical support at the right moment, they can keep a heart working properly.
Their main problem is that they use batteries. Even the best of them will run out of energy, and changing the batteries requires operations. Since operations are usually best avoided, the search has been on for long-lasting batteries. Different choices have been explored for a long time. Today, pacemakers with lithium (锂) batteries last between 5 and 15 years.
Zhang Hao, from Shanghai Second Military Medical University, and Yang Bin, from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, tried a way to refill a pacemaker’s battery with electricity (电) by getting energy from inside the body. They report in the magazine ACS Nano that they have also used the heart muscle (肌肉) itself to work. Earlier efforts by other scientists to use heart muscle power to run pacemakers depend on piezoelectric materials (压电材料). These materials can be connected to a beating heart and produce electricity when they are slightly deformed (弯曲). This has worked, but not well enough: the output has rarely been over 5 microwatts (微瓦), while most pacemakers require at least ten.
Dr Zhang and Dr Yang believed that they could improve matters by making their piezoelectric materials more dramatically deformed, and then produce 15 microwatts, because the more deformed, the more electricity will be produced. They put their idea to the test in a 50kg pig. It made enough electricity for the pacemaker to work as expected.
Whether such an idea will pass human tests remains to be seen. But if it does, the days of pacemakers that need battery changes through operations may not last long.
228.According to the first two paragraphs, what is a problem with pacemakers?
A.They often go off beat.
B.Their energy can be used up.
C.Operations often influence them.
D.They sometimes do harm to hearts.
229.From this passage, what do we know about piezoelectric materials?
A.They can be used to produce electricity.
B.They can deform the heart to make it beat faster.
C.They were first used by Zhang Hao and Yang Bin.
D.They were proved to produce 15 microwatts in human tests.
230.What does the word “dramatically” in the 4th paragraph most probably mean?
A.Comfortably. B.Safely. C.Greatly. D.Rapidly.
231.What is the best title for this article?
A.No Need to Use Pacemakers
B.The Problem with Piezoelectric Materials
C.The Contribution of Chinese Scientists to Heart Operations
D.Chinese Scientists Found a New Way to Improve Pacemakers

Hi, I’m Chief Editor (主编) of Youth Geographic. Have you noticed the sentence on the cover of our magazine saying “The best magazine for curious kids”? Curiosity is one of the best qualities you can have, in my opinion. Here in the office we are always looking for things that make us say “I wonder…” I wonder how, what, why, who and if. When you look at something closely, you often discover amazing stories. On Page 10, researchers wonder why ants don’t have traffic jams. On Page 15, you’ll find stories about why giraffes have long necks. Scientists are listening to trees in whole new ways. Do you know “Wood Wide Web”? Scientists call this because it’s a bit like an internet for trees. You will find more on Page 30. Now I would like you to turn to Page 1. Scientists say it’s better to leave deadwood where it is. Strange? You may wonder…
What happens when a tree dies and falls in a forest? People often think deadwood is bad because it attracts insects or animals that hurt living trees. However, recent studies suggest that this risk is low and that deadwood plays a key role in nature.
Scientists from the Czech Republic and the US said that dead trees provide homes for fungi (真菌), bacteria (细菌) and insects. As they break down the trees, nutrients (营养物质) are returned to the soil, which helps new plants grow. During this process, the insects also become food for other animals like birds and bats. What’s more, deadwood can help fight climate change by locking some carbon (碳) in the ground for over a century.
However, deadwood is becoming less all over the world now. Many forests have been turned into tree farms where trees are cut down before they die in a natural way. Some people also move away deadwood to lower the risk of fires or burn it in factories.
Scientists believe it is better to leave deadwood where it is.

(2025·江苏南通·中考真题)Hundreds of years ago, ideas like flying to another city through the air sounded like dreams. Yet now scientific study has made them real. Could other fairy tales come true someday?
Sleeping BeautyCould anyone sleep for 100 years? Probably not. The daily cycle of sleep and waking is set in your body. But animals like bears can hibernate (冬眠) through the winter until it warms.
If scientists can work out how animals hibernate, maybe one day people could hibernate too. It would be great for astronauts to sleep through the long space journey. But hibernating animals still grow older, so a future Sleeping Beauty might wake up as a Sleeping Grandma.
Talk to AnimalsTalking to animals isn’t quite easy. But scientists are trying. Tiny cameras and microphones have collected thousands of hours of animal conversations. Powerful computer programs study animal sounds and match them with possible meanings. Soon they may let us talk back.
But there are still challenges. Many animals communicate with smells, body language, and sounds that humans can’t hear. And animals don’t think like people. So, when we think they’re giving directions to the castle, they’re more likely to be saying “This is my tree!”
Let Down Your HairRapunzel lowers her long hair to let visitors in. But could hair really hold up a prince?
Surprisingly, yes! A scientific study has found out that a single hair can hold 3 ounces, the weight of a small tomato. And a common head has about 100,000 hairs. All those together could hold up a couple of elephants. A prince? No problem.
However, Rapunzel would also need a shorter tower. Human hair only grows a few feet long. The longest hair ever recorded is about 18 feet long—pretty short for a tower.
244.If astronauts could hibernate, they would ________.
A.stop growing completely B.sleep through space travel
C.need more food and water D.communicate with animals
245.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Animals think like people in giving directions.
B.Scientists have succeeded in talking back to animals.
C.A common person’s hair could hold up a giant panda.
D.Rapunzel in the fairy tale has the longest hair in history.
246.What is the main purpose of this passage?
A.To discuss new inventions for space travel.
B.To tell us how scientists influence fairy tales.
C.To compare different animals’ talking habits.
D.To show scientific possibilities behind fairy tales.

(2025·江苏无锡·中考真题)Brazilian artist Vik Muniz uses everyday objects in unusual ways. Through his art, Muniz makes people think differently about their everyday lives-even their own rubbish.
In 2007, Muniz worked on a two-year project at one of the world’s largest landfills. Until its closure in 2012, Jardim Gramacho received about 70 percent of the rubbish from Rio de Janeiro. About 3,000 rubbish pickers, known as catadores, worked there. Their job was to hunt through the rubbish for recyclable cans, bottles, and other materials. They then made money by selling the objects to recycling companies.
The catadores’ work was dirty and dangerous, and most of them only received between $20 and $25 a day. Despite the hard conditions, many catadores were proud of their work. Valter Dos Santos, a worker at Jardim Gramacho for more than 25 years, told Muniz, “I am proud to be a picker. I try to explain to people that recycling prevents great harm to nature and the environment. People sometimes say, ‘But one single soda can?’ One single can is of great importance! That single can will make the difference.”
Muniz became friends with Dos Santos and other catadores. They allowed him to take their photographs at the landfill, where they posed for artistic portraits. For example, Muniz photographed a landfill worker in the style of a famous French painting. The workers then helped Muniz create huge images of these photos on the floor of his workshop. They used materials from the landfill to add color and depth to the images.
________ Muniz says he wanted to “change the lives of people with the same materials they deal with every day.” A photograph of his recreation of the French painting sold for £28,000 ($50,000) at a London art auction. Muniz gave the money to the catadores workers’ organization.
In 2010, a movie called Waste Land was made about Muniz’s project. The film received many awards and helped make people aware of the rubbish collectors’ lives. The catadores also began to see themselves differently. “Sometimes we see ourselves as so small,” says Irma, a cook at Gramacho, “but people out there see us as so big, so beautiful.”
254.Why did the writer mention Valter Dos Santos?
A.To tell the story of a catador’s life. B.To describe the catadores’ hard conditions.
C.To show the value of a catador’s work. D.To give an example of successful catadores.
255.What can we learn about Muniz’s photographs?
A.They were all taken at the landfill. B.He spent a long time on each of them.
C.They were only part of his unusual creation. D.He took them in the style of famous paintings.
256.Which of the following is the most suitable for ________?
A.Why take such photos of these catadores? B.Why create such huge images using rubbish?
C.How to help these people in a creative way? D.How to turn everyday objects into art pieces?
257.Which of the following shows the right order of the things that happened?
a. A movie was made about Muniz’s project. b. Gramacho stopped receiving rubbish.
c. Dos Santos started working at Gramacho. d. Muniz made friends with some catadores.
A.d-c-b-a. B.c-d-b-a. C.d-c-a-b. D.c-d-a-b.
(2025·江苏南通·中考真题)①Do you sometimes feel too afraid to try new things? If you want to grow and get better, you need to take risks and challenge yourself. But your brain often tells you to stay safe. It might say, “Don’t bother trying something new.” Even when these thoughts aren’t reasonable, our anxiety (担心) can still win. Instead of thinking about the good things that could happen, we worry more about “What if something goes wrong?”
②Avoiding all risks might seem smart, but it can make you feel unhappy. The problem is that we often make decisions based on feelings, not facts. We think, “The more scared I feel, the riskier it is.” But feelings aren’t always reasonable. If we knew how to think about risks clearly, we’d know which risks are worth taking. For example, trying a new hobby like painting might feel scary at first, but it could bring you joy and new skills.
③Whether you’re afraid to change your job or too nervous to ask a friend for coffee, learning to take “good risks” can improve your life. Here are good ways to help.
④Balance feelings with facts. Many times, we think fear means something risky. But that’s not true. For example, driving a car feels safe because we do it every day, but giving a speech in public might make your heart beat fast. Yet the fact shows that car accidents are much more common than getting hurt while speaking! So before you avoid doing something scary, take three deep breaths and ask yourself, “What’s the real risk here?”
⑤Take steps to succeed. You can do many small things to lower risks. If you’re nervous about a test, make a study plan and review each day—this helps you feel more prepared. It’s okay to feel butterflies in your stomach when you try something new. Facing fear helps build your mental muscle, just like exercising builds physical muscle. So, taking smart risks helps you become mentally stronger. Each time you try something scary, you will learn to deal with uncertainty and anxiety. You’ll also get new skills and grow from mistakes. If you try out for a dance team and don’t make it, you can ask for the reason and then practise more. With practice, you’ll get better at facing risks, and your chances of success will rise.
258.Which of the following is TRUE according to the first two paragraphs?
A.Avoiding risks is a smart way to stay happy.
B.Taking risks requires us to trust our feelings.
C.Our brain often tells us to face challenges bravely.
D.Our feelings often influence us to make decisions.
259.What does the underlined phrase “build your mental muscle” mean in the last paragraph?
A.Develop strength in your mind. B.Exercise your body to stay healthy.
C.Think mainly about cheerful things. D.Avoid situations that make you afraid.
260.What is the structure of this passage? (①=Paragraph 1, ②=Paragraph 2...)
A. B.
C. D.
261.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Taking smart risks can push us forward.
B.Trying many small things can reduce risks.
C.Learning clearly about real risks can help a lot.
D.Practising more can help deal with risks better.

Sports might have started as a way to survive. Long ago, people ran, jumped, and climbed to stay alive. Hunters were known for their special skills. Wall paintings from centuries ago, showing activities like wrestling or dancing, were found in an Egyptian tomb. The ancient Greeks made a big change by holding the first Olympic Games.
Modern sports began in England in the early 19th century and then spread globally. These became the models for sports such as football that we play now.
Sports come in many shapes and sizes. Organized sports, whether swimming or ice hockey, are serious forms of play. There are rules to obey, skills and positions to learn, and plans to carry out. Team sports like soccer require you to work with teammates, while individual (个人的) sports such as tennis focus on your personal performance.
There’s no doubt that sports are valuable. The American Academy of Pediatrics says play is important for kids’ and teens’ thinking, bodies, social lives and feelings. Sports exercise our bodies and teach us about ourselves and our world. Organized sports get us using our bodies and minds, which makes us more imaginative, curious, and creative. The skills we learn can help us in school and later at work.
In an ideal world, sports would always be fun. But in reality, sports can cause physical hurt like broken bones, and also harm in mind. In team sports, misunderstandings and hurt feelings are part of the learning process. Sports are supposed to bring people together, but they can also drive people apart. But even when they’re not always a cheerful experience, they show us how to face life’s challenges.
You don’t have to be on a school team. But many, like school coaches, have found ways to make play their work, which makes them feel whole.
There’s no better place to play and learn about the world than on a sports field. No matter what sport you choose, the key is to play for fun. When you do, you’re already a winner.
262.In which part of a newspaper can we probably read this passage?
A.Travel. B.Nature. C.Technology. D.Entertainment.
263.Why is play important for teenagers according to the passage?
A.It reduces their physical hurt easily. B.It improves their mind and body health.
C.It helps them have more time for sleep. D.It teaches them how to win competitions.
264.Which of the following is the writer’s opinion?
A.People should try to become a famous athlete.
B.People can play mainly for fun and enjoyment.
C.Trying team sports is better than individual ones.
D.Avoiding sports that cause hurt is the best choice.
265.What may be the best title for the passage?
A.The Styles of Sports B.The History of Sports
C.The Charm of Sports D.The Challenges of Sports
(2025·江苏常州·中考真题)It was difficult not to see the 8-year-old boy run in and out of his house repeatedly. His repeated actions caused the curiosity of his neighbor, William Dunn.
“He said he didn’t have a father,” says Dunn, now aged 58.” And I realized that there might be something I could do to help him.”
That “something” was fishing, a hobby that Dunn’s father had once shared with him. He did it at once. After fishing together several times, Dunn saw encouraging changes in the boy’s behavior.
That was 16 years ago. Since then, Dunn has taken groups of fatherless kids fishing almost every weekend, teaching them how to set up a fishing line and bring in a big catch.
“They’ve been through a lot, and their lives have been challenging,” Dunn explains. “But when they’re fishing, all those pains disappear. On the boat, they laugh, smile, and make new friends. I knew I was onto something special.”
Jayden, now 23, has become a fisherman and thanks Dunn for helping him grow up. He proudly mentions catching a shark with Dunn’s help, “I hope he knows that I mean it when I say thank you.”
Another girl, 21-year-old Bella Smith, who is in a foster (抚养) program for young adults, notes that Dunn pays special attention to self-respect and spiritual strength. “When I’m fishing, I can forget about the past and enjoy something fun,” says Bella Smith. “Fishing has taught me that I can have a better life than what I had. Whenever I feel down, I know it’s time to go fishing.”
“There’s nothing like feeling the first pull on the line and seeing a kid’s face light up with a smile,” Dunn adds. “I feel lucky to witness that every weekend.”

(2025·江苏南通·中考真题)“Click, click, click...” The drummer hit the drumsticks against each other to give a beat, and the band started to play. Kai played a guqin solo, and for most of the show, he played along with the rhythm of the drums. The band played faster and faster. Kai’s classmates jumped to their feet, clapping and screaming. When the music ended, there was an awkward (尴尬的) silence. They all looked at the teachers.
Mr Li asked, “What were you trying to express?”
Kai murmured, “I wanted to do something different...to modernize the guqin’s sound.”
“Well, it’s a good try. But you know it has over 3,000 years of history. I don’t think you’ve presented the characteristics well,” said Mr Li. “The music was...We could hardly hear the guqin,” added Miss Zhou. “I’m afraid I can’t give you high marks.”
“Please, can I have another chance?” begged Kai.
They finally agreed.
Alone in the hall later, Kai sat in his chair, feeling a little sad. “I understand what you were trying to do,” Kai looked up and saw Miss Zhou by his side. “But before you can break the rules, you have to master them.”
Kai was puzzled. What did she mean?
“The guqin is connected to nature. The bottom board represents the ground, and the rounded top board represents the sky. A wonderful guqin performance shows the harmony (和谐) between people and nature.”
“Miss Zhou, is it fine to play the guqin with other instruments?”
“Because it is so quiet,” replied Miss Zhou, “it’s usually played alone. Sometimes, it can be played with the dizi or another guqin. Every note matters. And you know, there’s Chinese philosophy (哲理) behind every form of art. That’s what makes Chinese art special. We should try hard to keep the value of traditions and connect them with modern life.”
“Is it true that Confucius played the guqin?”
“Exactly. Confucius believed that music was necessary for a well-rounded education. It could help a person develop his inner self.”
“Can I make it modern?” Kai was wondering if he had asked a stupid question.
“Ancient musicians followed traditions to show respect. To modernize it, try to find the right way to keep the value. How will you change your piece?”
“I’m not sure yet,” said Kai. “But I’m going to do something different again.”
That night, Kai kept thinking about the next show. “How can I present the guqin and balance the traditional spirit with a modern touch?” he wondered.

The sixth planet was ten times larger than the last one. There the little prince met an old gentleman who was writing a big book.
“What is that big book?” said the little prince. “What are you doing?”
“I am a geographer,” the old gentleman said to him. “And I am writing about all the seas, mountains and deserts.”
“That is interesting,” said the little prince. “So could you tell me something about your planet?”
“I couldn’t tell you,” said the geographer. “But you are a geographer!”
“Exactly,” the geographer said. “But I am not an explorer. We don’t have any explorers here. I don’t go out to count the seas, mountains and deserts. Instead, I receive explorers from other planets in my study. I ask them questions, and I write down their answers.”
The geographer’s eyes suddenly shone with excitement.
“But you... you come from far away! You are an explorer! You shall describe your planet to me!”
“Oh, where I live,” said the little prince, “it is all so small. I have a flower on my planet.”
“We do not record flowers,” said the geographer.
“Why is that? The flower is the most beautiful thing on my planet!”
“We do not record them,” said the geographer, “because they are ephemeral.”
“What does that mean... ‘ephemeral’?”
“Geographies,” said the geographer, “are the books about eternal things. The thing that matters to us is the mountain. It doesn’t change. But your flower is different. It will not last long. It is ephemeral.”
“My flower is ephemeral,” the little prince said to himself, “and I have left her on my planet, all alone!”
That was his first moment of regret. But he took courage and asked, “What place would you advise me to visit now?”
“The planet Earth,” replied the geographer.
“I promise you will like it.”
And the little prince went away, thinking of his flower.

(2025·江苏淮安·中考真题)If you search for places of beauty, wetlands probably won’t be high on your list. Wetlands are areas of land that are often completely wet with water. Although they might not look very pretty, the roles that they play in nature might go beyond many people’s imagination.
Wetlands appear naturally in almost every part of the world. There are many different types of wetlands on Earth. Along with rainforests, they are among the most diverse (多样的) places on Earth. Besides natural wetlands, humans are also creating man-made ones for a number of purposes about water management.
One of the main advantages of wetlands is that they can prevent floods. They do so by storing water for a certain time and then slowly releasing (释放) it over time. Wetlands operate similarly to a sponge (海绵). When it rains heavily and water levels rise, they take in the extra water which may cause floods. This prevents water from entering rivers and streams. Then, when water levels become low later, they will release it. In many cases, wetlands offer a much more natural way than dams (坝). However, it’s important to note that wetlands, like dams, don’t stop all dangers from flooding. Once there is a very heavy rainfall, wetlands may fill up and any extra water will start to run off.
Wetlands also play a part in cleaning water. Farming actions and city waste are main causes of water pollution. Wetlands include plants and organisms that can reduce this pollution by clearing out unwanted things. Wetlands have other advantages for the environment as well. They can help to feed nearby fish populations by releasing something that can be used as food for them into rivers. Also, many animals like frogs use wetlands as baby-raising grounds because they provide the place for catching food and the water required. Some birds also come to the wetlands for food and shelter. Although wetlands may not look pretty, it’s clear that they are able to do the important work which is necessary to make sure that the circle of life remains unbroken.
308.Why does the writer mention “sponge” in Paragraph 3?
A.To explain the flood-preventing work of wetlands.
B.To describe the sponge’s feature of storing water.
C.To show the wetlands can take in water quickly like a sponge.
D.To compare the similar points between wetlands and a sponge.
309.What can we learn about wetlands from the passage?
A.People create man-made wetlands to deal with water.
B.People praise wetlands for natural beauty.
C.Wetlands can solve the pollution problems.
D.Wetlands can completely prevent the dangers caused by floods.
310.Which of the following can be the best title of the passage?
A.Wetlands—Circle of Life
B.Wetlands—Home of Living Things
C.Wetlands—Friend of Earth
D.Wetlands—Cleaner of Environment
(2025·江苏连云港·中考真题)Saturn (土星) is famous for the beautiful rings around it. Now, it’s getting attention for being even more amazing. Scientists have discovered 128 new moons around Saturn, bringing the planet’s total to 274. A moon is any naturally formed object that moves around a planet. Moons come in different shapes and sizes.
Scientists discovered the moons with a powerful telescope (望远镜), which is used to study stars and planets in great detail. Scientists took many photos of areas in space and piled them on top of each other to make the moons appear bright enough to discover.
Most of Saturn’s new moons are small objects, just one or two miles wide—quite different to Earth’s Moon, which is a 2,159-mile-wide ball. These space rocks are in unusual orbits (轨道) too. They go around Saturn in the opposite direction to its own movement. At between 6.5 million and 18 million miles away from the ringed planet, the newly discovered moons are also further away than Saturn’s biggest moon, Titan.
Why does Saturn have so many moons while Earth only has one? According to scientists, several billion years ago, the giant planet’s gravity attracted some rocks and ice. Over time, some of them crashed against each other, breaking into smaller pieces or coming together to create many small moons.
The new moons were first discovered in 2023 by a team of scientists led by Edward Ashton, and were recently confirmed by the International Astronomical Union (IAU). Saturn now is the planet with the most moons—Jupiter is not far behind with 95. However, Dr Ashton believes this might be the limit for moon discovery. “I don’t think Jupiter will ever catch up,” he said. “With present technology, I don’t think we can do better than what has already been done,” he added.
311.What do we know about the new discovery?
A.Newly found moons look the same. B.Scientists found new moons by accident.
C.Saturn’s rings attract many scientists. D.128 new moons were found around Saturn.
312.What does “the ringed planet” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Earth. B.Saturn. C.Moon. D.Titan.
313.What led to the large number of Saturn’s moons?
A.The size of the planet. B.The weights of the moons.
C.The orbit of the planet. D.The crashes of the moons.
314.What can we learn from Dr Ashton’s words in the last paragraph?
A.Jupiter will soon catch up with Saturn. B.Saturn’s new moons might support life.
C.The IAU presented a medal to his team. D.He is satisfied with their moon discovery.
(2025·江苏扬州·中考真题)Have you ever wondered what else you can do on the train besides sleeping or scrolling through your phone? Actually, in China, trains have turned into centres which bring together the public and the nation’s intangible cultural Heritage (ICH,非物质文化遗产).
Trains go across China and they are becoming ideal places for introducing local traditional culture. A good example is the K7041 train from Harbin to Mohe in Northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province. On the ICH train, Gulayier, dressed in traditional clothes, sang Oroqen folk songs and his partner played the Oroqen jaw harp, a musical instrument. Tourists on the train, especially those from southern China, sang and danced excitedly with the two performers (表演者) together. Gulayier said the train made it easier to hold tourists’ attention to his shows. He thought the train was a good platform for promoting (促进) ICH.
Traditional heritage comes to life on trains. More ICH such as Qinhuai lanterns from Nanjing, Yulin puppet shows, and tea-picking operas in Guangxi has also made appearances on high-speed trains across China. It offers passengers a close-up way to experience traditional culture.
Professor Xiao Fang from Beijing Normal University shares Gulayier’s opinion on the new use of ICH trains. He has pointed out another advantage of this. Beyond cultural promotion, it offers help for tourism. When passengers enjoy local traditions on board, they often develop a deeper interest in exploring the places they pass through.
However, the ICH train journeys still have challenges, including the narrow space on trains and passengers getting on and off at each station. Therefore, some solutions are coming up cultural corners show traditional arts, and QR codes connect to more digital information. These help passengers to explore ICH at their own pace and continue learning after their journey ends.
The success of ICH trains offers valuable lessons for cultural protection worldwide, proving that innovation (革新) and tradition can work together to keep cultural heritage alive for future generations.
315.What is the fresh experience for passengers on the K7041 train?
A.Travelling farther north. B.Joining in live shows.
C.Wearing traditional clothes. D.Having fun on the phone.
316.What do Gulayier and Professor Xiao both agree?
A.ICH encourages more local visits.
B.Trains help make ICH more popular.
C.ICH improves the Chinese train journeys.
D.Passengers welcome performers on ICH trains.
317.What does paragraph 5 mention about the ICH train journeys?
A.Their features and influence. B.Their reasons and results.
C.Their problems and methods. D.Their future and improvement.
318.What can be the best title for the passage?
A.Trains push China’s cultural heritage further.
B.China puts arms around local artists on ICH trains.
C.More ICH trains begin running on railways in China.
D.Train passengers share different local cultures of China.
(2025·江苏扬州·中考真题)Many marine species (海洋物种) depend on specific routes to migrate (迁徙). The routes offer these seafaring travellers the right conditions, at the right time of year, to guide them through the oceans. We humans try to discover the routes and have drawn our own lines, but they are not clear to us because of unexpected changes in nature.
To find out the routes that migratory marine species regularly take, a research team of scientists in Australia and the US have now created an interactive map that shows the paths connecting ocean habitats (栖息地).
The new map, named the Migratory Connectivity in the Ocean (MiCO), collects data and makes it easier for scientists to see where migratory marine species may be falling into the paths. The database (数据库) includes information on 109 species, based on around 30 years of data, and shows where they are going to and from—including which species cross into whose national waters.
“MiCO connects almost 2, 000 important habitats and shows the importance of cross-boundary teamwork,” says the research team. They find that all of the species recorded in MiCO have less protection at some point in their life history because of different situations in different countries. That means no country is able to fully protect migratory species if there is no help from others. “For example, green turtles nest in Costa Rica and migrate north through Nicaragua and out to islands in the Caribbean,” the team says. “Although largely protected in Costa Rica, it is allowed to fish for turtles in Nicaragua and huge numbers are lost off the coast there every year.”
MiCO works to provide useful knowledge on migratory connectivity to help protect marine species. In 2023, a UN report found climate (气候) changes are having bad influence on migratory species. MiCO catches the information from different time periods and the team hopes it may be used to tell those changes in connectivity. MiCO is also expected to collect information on more migratory marine species because there is less than one-third of data collected now.
“So far, the migratory information revealed within the MiCO system only touches the surface of the true connectivity of the global oceans,” the team says.
319.How does the writer lead in the topic?
A.By offering advice. B.By presenting study results.
C.By expressing opinions. D.By giving background information.
320.What is MiCO?
A.A map that humans draw to look for marine species.
B.A route which guides marine species through the oceans.

321.Why does the writer take the example of green turtles?
A.To prove the harm in fishing for migratory species.
B.To show the importance of cross-country teamwork.
C.To share the methods of marine species protection.
D.To explain the reason for marine species to migrate.
322.Which of the following can be the data MiCO collects?
A.Over 10 laws are made on marine species protection.
B.There are mainly 3 elephant species living on the earth.
C.Leatherback turtles travel about 20,000 km from Indonesia to Oregon.
D.Thousands of people visit the whale shark habitat in South Africa every year.
(2025·江苏无锡·中考真题)“Did you even hear my question, Lucho?” asked Mr Parra.
The students at the front of the class turned round to watch the show. They were all smiling. Eva Villa had turned to watch too, but she wasn’t smiling. For a moment Eva looked straight into Lucho’s dark sad eyes and he could feel his face turning bright red. Then she turned back to the front and said something to the girl sitting next to her. The girl laughed.
Mr Parra walked towards Lucho’s desk. Lucho liked Mr Parra, although he didn’t like history class. There was too much information to remember.
“Maybe you could tell us what I have been talking about for the last twenty minutes, Lucho, while you were looking out of the window,” said Mr Parra.
Lucho’s heart felt heavy. He had no idea what to say. He looked down at his history textbook. The page was about “The stolen past” and there was a photograph of a gold object that looked very old. Next, he looked quickly at the board and saw one of Mr Parra’s favourite things: a mind map. Every time they had to write about something for homework, Mr Parra asked them to make a mind map.
The mind map had four empty circles joined by four lines to a bigger circle in the centre. In the centre circle Mr Parra had written the word “guaca”. Lucho tried to remember where he had heard the word before.
They were all waiting. Lucho looked out of the window for a second and saw a little yellow bird. Yes, that was it! Guaca was a word that his grandmother had used, but what did it mean? The class was still waiting for him to speak. Suddenly he heard the little yellow bird singing in the tree outside and he opened his mouth.
“We were talking about guaca, sir,” he answered.
“And what is guaca, Lucho?” Mr Parra asked.
“Guaca means ‘special object’. An antique object that was made by South American tribes, usually from gold, sir.”
Mr Parra looked surprised. He hadn’t expected Lucho to know the answer.
The girl next to Eva turned to look at Lucho again. The rest of Lucho’s classmates had lost interest. Lucho felt better, but Mr Parra hadn’t finished with him yet.
“That’s correct, Lucho,” said Mr Parra. “And what is today’s homework?”
Homework? Lucho hadn’t heard Mr Parra talk about homework. He looked at the mind map on the blackboard again. Outside, the bird had stopped singing.

A.By reading and practicing. B.By taking cooking classes.
C.By watching his mum cook. D.By making delicious sauce.
152.What plays an important role in all the three cooking experiences?

One day, the seller took me there. He wanted to sell me at a high price. I didn’t know if I would be lucky enough to meet a master who would treat me well.

(2025·江苏连云港·中考真题)Hello from nature’s foodies

170.Why does the writer mention Wei Pengyu and Xu Zhouyi?
A.To share their life experiences. B.To compare their training results.
C.To show their understanding of wuxi. D.To express their love for facial masks.
171.What message can we learn from the successful show of San Cha Kou?
A.Practice makes perfect. B.One is never too old to learn.
C.Great hopes make great man. D.Friends should be few but good.
172.What is a suitable title for the text?
A.Wuxi movements impress viewers B.Young actors shine in Peking Opera
C.Wuxi actors celebrate after graduating D.A Peking Opera master opens a school

171.推理判断题。根据“Wu and Shu practiced together for nearly a year...We have to read each other’s energy—know when one is speeding up or slowing down.

A.By comparing two places. B.By describing a scene.
C.By answering a question. D.By listing a number.

【知识点】应用文、天气预报
【导语】本文是一篇天气预报。文章通过天气预报员Jack White之口,向观众预报了全国第二天及未来几天复杂多变的天气情况,并为观众提供了相应的生活建议。
221.推理判断题。根据第一段“Good evening and welcome to the evening weather report.”可知,这是晚间天气预报,选项中“8:00 p.m.”符合“evening”的时间范围;据此可以推断,Jack White很可能在晚上8点进行播报。故选D。
222.细节理解题。根据第二段“A cold front (冷锋) is moving towards the north of the country. It may cause snowfall in that area tomorrow.”可知,一股冷锋正在向该国北部移动,明天可能会在该地区造成降雪;因此,北部地区可能有雪。故选A。
223.词义猜测题。根据第四段“On the east coast, we could see a slight rise in temperature tomorrow, from today’s high of 16℃ to as high as 18℃. But don’t get too excited! I’m afraid the mild weather won’t last very long.”
文中Jack White以“Good evening and welcome to the evening weather report. I’m Jack White.”
【答案】225.A 226.D 227.D
根据“Silicon Valley (硅谷) prizes youth over experience, believing that ‘people under 35 are those who make changes happen’ while ‘people over 45 cannot create new ideas.’”可知,硅谷推崇年轻而非经验,认为45岁以上的人缺乏创造力,这与作者强调“坚持和年龄无关”的观点相悖。故选A。
226.细节理解题。根据“Different from the belief in business that you have to be first, many of the most successful companies are those that have gone through early failures. For example, Google succeeded after twenty-two failures. Success can come when you have tried two, three, or even twenty-two times.”可知,许多最成功的公司都经历过早期的失败,例如谷歌尝试了22次失败才取得成功,由此可知该效应解释了失败是常见的和可接受的。故选D。
227.主旨大意题。根据“Persistence, however, is undervalued (低估). So, the next time you’re stuck, remember: ‘You’re more creative than you think you are.’”及全文可知,本文通过“系列顺序效应”、企业案例及科学家年龄分析,强调“创造力源于坚持”这一核心观点。故选D。
【答案】228.B 229.A 230.C 231.D

229.细节理解题。根据“These materials can be connected to a beating heart and produce electricity when they are slightly deformed (弯曲).”可知,这些材料在轻微弯曲时,能够与跳动的心脏相连并产生电能,所以压电材料可以被用来发电。故选A。
230.词句猜测题。根据“because the more deformed, the more electricity will be produced”可知,因为变形程度越大,产生的电量就越多;可推测出“dramatically”意为“显著地”,与“greatly”意思相近。故选C。
231.最佳标题题。本文主要介绍中国科学家发现了一种改进心脏起搏器的新方法,D选项为最佳标题。故选D。
(2025·江苏徐州·中考真题)
