It is a hard time for them, but it can be an exciting one as well. To make it easier, students need to get familiar with their school. Even though they've done this already in the middle school, it's still important to find where their classrooms are. Most schools take students to the high school for a visit at the end of their eighth grade year. And, most schools also have a freshman speech for parents and students before the first year begins. Sometimes the main office will give away a map of the school. This can help students and parents to find different places in the school. One way to know your high school more and make new friends is to join a club or play a sport. Schools often offer chances to join different clubs and sports. Fall activities begin in August before the first day of school. If you are not interested in sports, there are clubs for any interest, such as drama, dance, chess, photography, community service, etc. These clubs allow students from different grades. By joining in an activity, students can find new friendships, not to mention improving their chances in future college applications. The school office will have a list of activities offered at the school and information on how to join in them. What's more, to have a great start to a high school year, students can write down some of their worries, and ask for help from teachers and school workers. 21.According to the text, most students feel when entering the high school. A.excited B.nervous C.lonely D.disappointed 22.When do many schools take students to visit their new high school? A.Before the eighth grade year starts. B.Right after the high school year starts. C.At the end of their eighth grade year. D.At the beginning of the new term in the high school. 23.What can we conclude about the school clubs? A.There are fewer students from higher grades in the school clubs. B.The school clubs in high school only welcome sports fans. C.Summer activities begin before school starts. D.The school office can help new students join school clubs. B What a day! I started at my new school this morning and had the best time. I made lots of new friends and really liked my teachers. I was nervous the night before, but I had no reason to be. Everyone was so friendly and polite. They made me feel at ease. It was like I'd been at the school for a hundred years! The day started very early at 7:00 am. I had my breakfast downstairs with my mom. She could tell that I was very nervous. Mom kept asking me what was wrong. She told me I had nothing to worry about and that everyone was going to love me. If they didn't love me, mom said to send them her way for a good talking to. I couldn't stop laughing. My mom dropped me off at the school gate about five minutes before the bell. A little blonde (金发的) girl got dropped off at the same time and started waving (招手) at me. She ran over and told me her name was Abigail. She was very nice and we became close straight away. We spent all morning together and began to talk to another girl called Stacey. The three of us sat together in class all day and we even made our way home together! It went so quickly. Our teacher told us that tomorrow we would really start learning and developing new skills. I cannot wait until tomorrow and feel as though I am really going to enjoy my time at my new school I only hope. 24.How did the author feel the night before her new school? A.Tired. B.Excited. C.Worried. D.Relaxed. 25.What did the author think of her mother's advice? A.Clear. B.Funny. C.Reasonable. D.Excellent. 26.What happened on the author's first day of school? A.She met many nice people. B.She had a hurried breakfast. C.She learned some new skills. D.She arrived at school very early. 27.What can we infer about Abigail? A.She disliked Stacey. B.She was shy and quiet. C.She got on well with the author. D.She was an old friend of the author. C English is English, right? Not exactly. Although Americans share the same language as those in Great Britain, words that commonly mean one thing in America can mean something completely different in Britain. Here are some examples. In the United States a bird is, well, an animal with feathers. In England, however, a bird is often used to describe a young female, similar to the way young women are referred to “chicks” in America. But be careful when you are calling your boss' daughter a bird, because some Britons consider the word a negative expression. Saying you need a new trainer in America means something quite different from it does in England. In the US, trainers are healthy and strong experts who can help you work out. However, in England, trainers are just another name for tennis shoes. In America, the word “jumper” usually means a call to 911, as it can refer to a person who's trying to jump from a bridge or building. The meaning couldn't be more different in Great Britain, where “jumper” is the name given to a knit top, or, as it's called in America:a sweater. Telling a Londoner that you like to sleep with your comforter every night may cause some strange looks, unless you're a baby. In the US, a comforter is a cover for bed that is filled with a soft material, but in England, a comforter is a word used to describe a baby's pacifier (橡皮奶嘴). In America, a casket, also called a coffin (棺材), clearly has a sad meaning. In Great Britain, on the other hand, a casket has a completely different meaning:it refers to a small box used to store jewelry or other valuable objects. If a Londoner tells an American he locked something in his boot, the American may look at him strangely. In America, a boot is a type of footwear, while in England the word is used to refer to a trunk (后备箱) of a car. 28.If you call a young English female a bird, she would most probably ________. A.feel unhappy about it; B.find it very interesting C.consider you are strange; D.think you come from the US 29.In America, a middleaged woman teaching people to do sports can be probably called a “_______”. A.chick B.trainer; C.jumper D.comforter 30.If a Londoner says he needs to get something in his boot, he ________. A.has locked his car by accident; B.needs to return to his car for something; C.has dropped something into his footwear; D.needs to open his casket to get some jewelry 31.What's the main idea of the passage? A. English is widely spoken in the world. B. British English has experienced many changes. C. American English is easier than British English. D.British English and American English have some differences. D Living and dealing with kids can be a tough job these days, but living and dealing with parents can be even tougher. If I have learned anything in my 16 years, it is that communication is very important, both when you disagree and when you get along. With any relationship, you need to let the other person know how you are feeling. If you are not able to communicate, you drift apart. When you are mad at your parents, or anyone else, not talking to them doesn’t solve anything. Communication begins with the concerns (关心) of another. It means that you can’t just come home from school, go up to your room and take no notice to anyone. Even if you just say “Hi”, and see how their day was for five minutes, it is better than nothing. If you looked up the word “communication” in a dictionary, it would say “the exchange of ideas, the conveyance (表达) of information, correspondence (通信), means (方式) of communication: a letter or a message”. To keep a good relationship, you must keep communication strong. Let people know how you feel, even if it’s just by writing a note. When dealing with parents, you always have to make them feel good about how they are doing as a parent. If you are trying to make them see something as you see it, tell them that you’ll listen to what they have to say, and ask them politely to listen to you. Shouting or walking away only makes the situation worse. Here is an example: one night, Sophie went to a street party with her friends. She knew she had to be home by midnight after the fireworks, but she didn’t feel she could just ask to go home. That would be rude. After all, they had been nice enough to take her along with them. Needless to say, she was late getting home. Her parents were mad at first, but when Sophie explained why she was late, they weren’t as mad and let it go. Communication is the key here. If Sophie’s parents had not been willing to listen, Sophie would have been in a lot of trouble. Communication isn’t a one-way matter: it goes both ways. Just remember: if you get into a situation like Sophie’s, tell the other person how you feel---listening is the key to communication. 32. In the writer’s view, dealing with parents is __________ than with children. A. more difficult; B. much easier; C. less interesting; D. more interesting 33. The underlined phrase “ drift apart” in Paragraph 2 means __________. A. keep up with others B. move along smoothly C. distance yourself from others D. come closer to each other 34. The example in Paragraph 6 shows that ___________. A.Sophie is very polite to her parents; B.Sophie’s parents are willing to listen to her C. Sophie did well in explaining her being late; D. communication is the solution to misunderstanding 35. All the following statements are correct except “_______”. A. Communication is a two-way matter; B. It is better to say “Hi” to others than say nothing C. If you don’t agree with others, you’d better let them know; D. When dealing with parents, you only need to listen to them 第二节 七选五 (共5小题;每小题2.5分, 满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 One of my earliest memories was watching my mom talk on our old phone. It reflects that most teenagers are not willing to extend (扩展) themselves or take risks (风险) in their life and they even want to escape from their parents. My first experience of being thrown out of my comfort zone was in my high school.
