So, I asked him to watch Toby and keep him outside. Unexpectedly, after supper, it started to rain and everyone went indoors. I didn’t allow Toby to be running around in the house. Eventually, my brother left with annoyance. A few days passed, I texted him and expressed wishes for him to come out again. His reply: “Not a chance.” Two months passed. My wife suggested I get in touch with my brother and I realized it was me who was at fault. So I decided to make an apology. With the biscuits my wife had made, I arrived at my brother’s door. _______________________________________________________ 链接高考: 2025全国卷I读后续写: The hurt look on my brother’s face when he left that day lingered in my heart constantly. Lucy II、In Class 课中活动 Activity 1: Family Matters---Conflicts (Like Father, Like Son) Step 1: Answer the following questions: 1. What conflict does the son have with his father ? 2. What’s your advice on handling the conflicts ? 3. Have you ever encounter similar experiences ? How did you handle it ? Step 2: Read the passage and answer: 1. What are the reasons for the family tensions? 2. What should teens do when faced with conflicts or disagreements with their parents? Strangers under the same roof? Does every dinner with your parents seem to turn into a battle? Have your once warm and open conversations become cold and guarded? Do you feel that you just cannot see eye to eye with them on anything? You are not alone. Heated arguments and cold silences are common between teenagers and their parents. Teenagers' physical changes may result in such family tensions. You may feel anxious that you are developing at a different rate to your friends, shooting up in height or getting left far behind. You might worry about your changing voice, weight problems or spots. When it all gets too much, your parents are often the first targets of your anger. It can be a big headache to balance your developing mental needs too. You enter a strange middle ground-no longer a small child but not quite an adult. You have both a new desire for independence and a continued need for your parents love and support. You feel ready to be more responsible and make decisions on your own. Unfortunately, your parents do not always agree and that makes you feel unhappy."Why cant they just let me go?” you may wonder. On the other hand, when you are struggling to control your feelings, you wish they could be more caring and patient-sometimes they forget that growing up is a rough ride. It can be difficult when your parents treat you like a child but expect you to act like an adult. All of this can lead to a breakdown in your relationship. Although sometimes it may seem impossible to get along as a family, you can take action to improve the situation. The key to keeping the peace is regular and honest communication. When you disagree with your parents, take a minute to calm down and try to understand the situation from their point of view. Perhaps they have experienced something similar and do not want you to go through the same pain After you have thought it through, explain your actions and feelings calmly, listen carefully, and address their concerns. Through this kind of healthy discussion, you will learn when to back down and when to ask your parents to relax their control Just remember that it is completely normal to struggle with the stress that parent child tensions create, and that you and your parents can work together to improve your relationship. The good news is that this stormy period will not last. Everything will turn out all right in the end, and the changes and challenges of your teenage years will prepare you for adulthood. Activity 2: Family Matters---Apology (Say sorry to family members) Step1: Listen and answer: 1. How do you think Alice’s mother makes an apology? I realized it was me who was at fault, so I decided to make an apology. With the biscuits my wife had made, I arrived at my brother’s door. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Activity 3: Family Matters---Family memory Step 1: Answer the questions: 1. What did the author do for her mother’s birthday? 2. How did her mother react to the breakfast? III: After Class 课后拓展阅读 Read the passage and answer: Over Half of Young Chinese Block Parents on WeChat Moments We all know the feeling—you want to check what someone you care about has been up to on social media, and suddenly you find you are denied access to their feeds. It’s an instant start of mixed emotions and speculations—when did this happen? Did I do anything wrong? What are they attempting to hide from me? And that’s what half of Chinese parents have to deal with when they try to browse their children’s WeChat Moments, also known as “Friends’ Circle”, as suggested by a recent survey released by Tencent, the Chinese Internet giant. According to the report, entitled Annual White Paper on Family Affection on WeChat Moments, about 52 percent of WeChat users aged 18 to 29 block their parents on Moments, a major feature on the platform that allows users to share everything they like with their WeChat contacts. About 62 percent of the young interviewees said that parents “are neurotic about everything,” along with reasons such as fear of parents’ disapproval, rejection to parents’ nagging(唠叨), and seeking privacy. “My parents don’t know Moments very well, so I just told them I don’t use it anymore,” said Qin Jianping, a 28-year-old. He added that his parents had been leaving comments requesting updates on his dating status on every post he made on Moments since he broke up with his girlfriend two years ago. Xie Yun, a 26-year-old, said that while she didn’t block her parents entirely, they were in a specific group to which she only shares positive posts. “I don’t want my parents to see minor setbacks in my life,” she said, adding that once her parents saw a Moments picture of her hand getting slightly burned while cooking, and they traveled all the way to her city to make sure she was all right. The report also found that more than 49 percent of Chinese parents use WeChat as a main channel to communicate with their children. Roughly 36 percent of the parents who took the survey said they checked every post made by their children. When asked how they would react to being blocked, some parents said they would initiate a conversation with their children to find out the reason, while others said they wouldn’t care. And some parents just outsmart their kids in this hide-and-seek game online. “I didn’t realize I was blocked until I compared what I could see on my phone to what my son’s aunt could see,” said Chen, a mother of a 27-year-old son. “I chose to remain silent on this and now I’m following my son’s posts through his aunt.” 1. Why do children block their parents ? 2. How do parents deal with it ? 3 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
