1.Tom went to New York in 2000, ________ only two years later he became a millionaire.
A.that B.where C.what D.when
2.To his parents’ joy, Peter has made ________ rapid progress in maths with ________ help of his teacher.
A.不填; the B.不填; 不填 C.a; the D.as; 不填
【答案】A
【难度】0.4
【知识点】make progress、with the help of、用在固定搭配中、某些固定搭配中
【详解】句意:令他父母高兴的是,彼得在老师的帮助下数学进步很快。
考查冠词的用法。make progress“取得进步”,progress是不可数名词,其前不加任何冠词;with the help of…“在……的帮助下”,固定短语。故选A。
3.—When shall I hand in my homework?
—As soon as it ________ tomorrow.
A.completes B.is completed C.will complete D.will be completed
【答案】B
【难度】0.4
【知识点】complete、一般现在时的被动语态
【详解】句意:——我什么时候交作业?——只要明天完工。
考查一般现在时态的被动语态。As soon as引导时间状语从句,遵循主句用一般将来时,从句用一般现在时态,主语是it和谓语动词complete存在被动关系,其结构是be done的形式,主语是it,be动词用is,complete的过去分词是completed,故选B。
4.— I know you’ll have a great match tomorrow. Break a leg!
— Thank you. I’ll try my best.
A.Hurt your leg B.Have fun C.Good luck D.Well done
【答案】C
【难度】0.4
【知识点】常识和习语
【详解】句意:—— 我知道你明天会有一场精彩的比赛。祝你好运!—— 谢谢,我会尽力的。
考查常识和习语。Hurt your leg伤害你的腿;Have fun玩得开心;Good luck好运;Well done做得好。根据“Thank you. I’ll try my best.”可知,应该是对对方参加比赛的一种祝福,结合选项,Good luck和Break a leg是同一个意思,祝你好运。故选C。

【知识点】read(read read)、be used to doing sth.、used to do sth.、动名词作宾语、used to do sth.
【详解】句意:我过去常常在早上读书,但现在我习惯于在睡觉前读书。
考查非谓语动词。used to do sth.“过去常常做某事”;be used to doing sth.“习惯做某事”。根据“I used to...in the morning, but now”,可知,第一空描述过去发生的事情,表示过去常常早上读书,所以第一个空填read;根据“I’m used to... before in the bed”,可知,第二个空处表示“习惯了睡前看书”,应用reading。故选B。
6.— How many trees ________ in your city every year?
— About five thousand.
A.have been grown B.are planted
C.were planted D.are growing
7.Chinese New Year ________ the Spring Festival. People often eat dumplings.
A.is called B.was called C.calls D.called
【答案】A

I’m sorry我很抱歉;Certainly not当然不是;Sounds good听起来不错;Yes, I do是的,我知道。根据“Mr. Smith is sleeping. He might catch a cold.”可知,应该是不能打开窗户,此处表示抱歉。故选A。
9.I ________ Chinese food ________ Western food while my sister would rather ________ some snacks for lunch.
A.would rather; than; having B.prefer; to; have
C.would rather; than; have D.prefer; to; to have
【答案】B
【难度】0.4
【知识点】prefer…to…、would rather (not) do sth.、动词短语
【详解】句意:与西餐相比我更喜欢中餐,然而我的妹妹宁愿午饭吃快餐。
考查固定搭配。prefer A to B,与B相比更喜欢A,A、B为名词或者动名词;would rather do than do宁愿做某事也不愿做某事。Chinese food和Western food都是名词性短语,前两空需用prefer…to…;would rather 后加动词原形,have some snacks吃零食/快餐,故选B。

—Yes, come and look. My photos will show you ______.
A.how did we go there B.where we will go

【知识点】过去发生的动作/状态、宾语从句的语序、what引导宾语从句
【详解】句意:——你在上海玩得愉快吗?——是的,过来看看。我的照片会告诉你这次旅行是什么样子的。
考查宾语从句。show后缺少直接宾语,此处用宾语从句,宾语从句使用陈述语序,排除AC;根据“Did you have a good time in Shanghai?”对过去的事情提问,不能用一般将来时,排除B。故选D。
二、完形填空(共12小题;每小题1分,满分12分)

There are few clear rules in the UK saying drivers should not park on the pavement(人行道). But Scotland, a country of Britain, is planning a complete ban on pavement parking. And, earlier this year, the UK government admitted it was considering changing the law for the other parts of Britain.
Joe Irvin of Living Streets (the UK charity for everyday walking) says there is “no excuse”for the disagreement and has called on the UK government to act the same way.
“Pavement parking is really thoughtless—and if you think about people with wheelchairs, pushchairs, or sight impairment (受损), they have to go out on to the road,” says Mr Irvin.
Steve Hynd, from Bristol, said his father, who uses a wheelchair, had recently ended up in hospital after a parked car had blocked his path.
“My dad’s experience was near his care home,” he says. “He was trying to wheel himself back inside and a car had parked up on the pavement. He tried to get around it and fell out of his wheelchair. He went to hospital. He’d hurt his head and got a black eye where his glasses had gone in.”
Groups such as the AA and RAC admit “some streets”should not allow pavement parking if it causes problems to emergency vehicles(紧急车辆) but they do not believe in a complete ban across the country.
AA president Edmund King says, “We would be worried if there was a total ban. It is clearly possible in i some areas to park on the pavement while still allowing room for pushchairs or people In wheelchairs to pass do not believe in a complete ban across the country.”
AA president Edmund King says, “We would be concerned if there was a total ban. It is clearly possible in some areas to park on the pavement while still allowing room for pushchairs or people In wheelchairs to pass.”
Hugh Bladon of the Alliance of British Drivers argues a complete ban would cause serious problems as some streets were so narrow.
The simple way to deal with the problems, Mr. Bladon believes, is that all drivers must leave at least one metre between their car and the inside of the pavement to allow people with pushchairs and so on to pass by.
23.What should the UK government do according to Joe Irvin?
A.Give equal rights to drivers in the UK.
B.Prevent Scotland from making the law.
C.Ban pavement parking totally in the UK.
D.Find more ways to protect walking people.
24.What is Edmund King’s attitude to a complete ban on pavement parking?
A.He is against it.
B.He is uncertain of it.
C.He feels hopeful about it.
D.He pays little attention to it.
25.What does Hugh Bladon want drivers to do when parking?
A.Be careful with cars on the pavement.
B.Stop parking on the pavement forever.
C.Allow people with pushchairs to go first.
D.Leave enough space for pavement walkers.
【答案】23.C 24.A 25.D

No high school is alike in the United States, but there is one tradition that nearly every school has: senior prank (恶作剧). Linganore is no exception (例外), and this year the class of 2023 certainly lived up to your expectations.
Like many senior pranks, there were many different ideas, one of which was to take every desk and chair out of classes and put them in the stadium. Fortunately for Linganore teachers, this concept was not put into action; instead, the students stuck with the classic method of throwing paper on anything and everything. Next, some seniors used balloons to totally fill the stairs on Main Street closest to the front entrance. Many seniors parked in the worst ways possible throughout the parking lots.
Cole Simmonds arrived at school before much of the chaos started. Along with witnessing seniors throw paper on trees, Simmonds’car was a victim of the prank when it was attacked with water balloons. In addition to being annoyed by the water balloons, Simmonds was also unhappy with the lack of originality from the seniors.
The last part of the seniors’ final day included a Slip & Slide placed at the top of the hill behind the school that went down to the lower parking lot. To prevent injury, a teacher supervised the seniors’ Slip & Slide to ensure safety. The goals of the Slip Slide were not only to make the seniors’ last day something to remember but to encourage students to participate in fun activities permitted by the school.
Although not as humorous or creative as some believed it could have been, the Slip & Slide and balloons in the stairs were very impressive and were good aspects of this year’s prank. Hopefully, the class of 2024 will do something that not only avoids annoying people but is also funny.
26.What does paragraph 2 mainly tell us?
A.Different pranks the seniors did. B.Side effects senior pranks bad.
C.Traditional pranks in Linganore. D.Desired aims of senior pranks.
27.What is Simmonds’ attitude toward the senior prank this year?
A.Worried. B.Displeased. C.Doubtful. D.Unconcerned
28.What does the underlined word “supervised” mean in paragraph 4?
A.Took pride in. B.Entered for. C.Benefited from. D.Took charge of.
29.Where does this text probably come from?
A.A sports magazine. B.A travel brochure.
C.A school website. D.A science fiction.

In 1924, Frederick Mitchell-Hedges led a team to Lubaantun, an ancient Mayan (玛雅人的) city in modern-day Belize, a country in Central America. There, his daughter, Anna, found one of the most mysterious objects in history: a crystal skull (水晶头骨) that looked like a perfect human head. After that, more crystal skulls appeared in a short period across Europe and North America.
For years, those mysterious crystal skulls have caused a lot of discussion. Even now, no one knows exactly who made them, and no one can say when.
Some people believe the Mesoamerican (中美洲的) people made the skulls thousands of years ago. Some stories say they have special powers (能力), such as the ability to make sick people well. Moviemakers love these stories. In the movie Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the skulls had great powers. In the movie, a crystal skull is actually the head of an alien.
However, most scientists don’t believe these stories. They think the skulls are more modern. Scientists have found marks on the skulls that they believe only more modern technology could make. Because of this, scientists are certain the skulls are not thousands of years old. Instead, they think the skulls are from the 19th century. Scientists also point to the British Museum’s research—researchers have found many Mesoamerican objects, but they have never found a crystal skull. Scientists say this is also evidence to show they are not really Mesoamerican.
Until we know more about the skulls, the mystery—and the debate (争论)—will continue.
30.According to some stories, the crystal skulls ________.
A.were made by aliens B.could make people sick
C.were the heads of aliens D.could help people get better
31.What have the scientists found about the crystal skulls?
A.They weren’t made of real crystal.
B.They were made in the same country.
C.They are typical Mesoamerican objects.
D.They have a shorter history than people think.
32.What’s the underlined word “evidence” mean in Chinese?
A.机会 B.观点 C.证据 D.成就
33.What is the passage mainly about?
A.What the crystal skulls are. B.Who made the crystal skulls.
C.The debate about the crystal skulls. D.The medicl purpose of the crystal skulls.

Spiders are not insects as many people believe. They belong to a class of animals called arachnids(蛛形纲动物). Spiders have eight eyes, four pairs of legs, and can grow a new leg if they lose one. A spider’s body is divided into two sections: the abdomen(腹部) and the thorax(胸部).The legs, eyes, and mouthparts are in the thorax section.
Most spiders have poison glands(毒腺)and sharp teeth. They use their sharp teeth to force poison into the insects they catch for food. This poison can make an insect lose the ability to move, and the helpless insect is then devoured by the spider.
Spiders usually have silk glands under their abdomen. They produce a liquid(液体)that is thicker than water from their glands. When the liquid comes into the air, it dries into silk. Sleep plays an important role in brain development. Children should get enough sleep. 37 A study says that because of being short of sleep, it is much harder for children to do something carefully. And also they become forgetful and easy to make mistakes. Another study shows that the right amount of night-time sleep is just as important for children’s development as healthy eating and taking exercise.
38 In general, a younger child needs more sleep than an older one. Children at the age of 5—11 will need 10—12 hours of sleep a night while children at the age of more than 11 will need less hours.

This policy aims to encourage primary and secondary schools to provide more fine music classes because a new study shows that music education is really important in school education.

Many spiders use this silk to form webs to catch insects and to make cocoons(茧)that protect their eggs. This amazing silk is also used to create lines that spiders hang onto as they travel to new areas.
Spiders live in almost everywhere on earth. The only places where there are no spiders are the coldest places, the highest mountains and the seas.
34.What will happen if a spider loses one leg?
A.It will die.
B.It will lose its way.
C.It will grow a new one.
D.It will have seven legs forever.
35.What is the meaning of the underlined word “devoured”?
A.Eaten. B.Caught. C.Killed. D.Saved.
36.According to the passage, which of the following is WRONG?
A.Spiders are not insects.
B.All spiders have poison glands.
C.Spiders make cocoons to keep their eggs safe.
D.There are no spiders in the coldest places.

The Senior School Entrance Exams for Chinese Junior 3 students used to be mainly about academic (学术类的) subjects such as Chinese, Maths, English, etc. But starting from 2022, there are also tests in music. This policy aims to encourage primary and secondary schools to provide more fine music classes because a new study shows that music education is really important in school education. Here are some ideas on how music plays an important role in school education.
Music helps with Maths and Science. Students learn to count, and how to multiply and divide. Students also use Science to help them discover what sounds good together and what doesn’t. Besides, students also use Science to understand how music is produced by vibration (颤动) and why.
Students learn a lot about languages through music. Many songs are written in foreign languages. Students must learn to translate these foreign works to understand what they are singing about.
Students learn a huge amount of cooperation (协调) of body parts through music, so parts of the body can work better together. For example, students must use motor (肌肉运动的) skills in order to play an instrument. Singers and wind (管乐器) players must learn breath control and be in good shape to sing and play.
Students learn about Art through music. Some famous pieces of music were written about important pieces of art, and students learn about the artists and styles as they’re playing the music.
Music education also brings higher thinking. Students have to be aware (知道的) of what every other musician does at every time. In this way, it develops cooperation as well. They tend to develop more ability for learning.
