B Ray is a physical education teacher at Central Algoma Secondary School. This year, most of their classes were remote due to the COVID-19 pandemic. One day, Ray was talking to his daughter Sadie, who was set to graduate. The school was planning to have teachers hand-deliver diplomas to each student's home, but Sadie asked her dad if she could receive hers on a nearby outdoor stage instead. “I said, ‘Sure, I'll do that’. No problem. Is there anybody else who would like to receive their diploma on the stage?’”Ray said. “And she said, ‘Yeah, everybody would like to get their diploma on the stage.’” Moved, the creative dad got to work to make it happen — not just for his daughter, but for all of the graduating seniors! He spent about six hours one weekend building a portable (便携的) stage that he could pull behind his truck. He then got permission from the school, and they eagerly agreed to help make his mobile graduation mission a success. “It's such an important event for so many people.... It was almost like the first win that we've had in a year and a half after being beaten down,” Ray said. “We finally get to do this one thing that we'll remember for the rest of our lives.” Over the course of two days in late June, Ray traveled over 250 miles to give 72 graduates their big moment! Joel Lamoureux was one student who received his diploma on the portable stage. His mom, Krissie Lamoureux said the experience felt relaxed and easy while still providing an important photo opportunity for this milestone in their lives. “It was extremely personal,” she added. “It's really hard as a parent to watch your child graduate from a distance and not be able to really be a part of anything.” All of the students were grateful to Ray and the school for creating a safe way to celebrate their accomplishments. 4. What inspired Ray to create the stage? A. The COVID-19 pandemic. B. His daughter's hope. C. The school's permission. D. The graduates' request. 5. What can we infer from Ray's words in Paragraph 5? A. He has won the competition. B. He has experienced many failures. C. His work is highly thought of. D. His work is of great significance. 6. What's Krissie Lamoureux's feeling about Ray's stage? A. Satisfied. B. Envious. C. Appreciative. D. Comfortable. 7. What’s the best title of this text? A. A Teacher Builds a Portable Stage B. A Different Celebration Is on Show C. A Personal Work Gains Popularity D. A Teacher Helps Deliver Diplomas C Pre-school children who spend time together take on one another's personalities, a new research has found. The study shows that environment plays a key role in shaping people's personalities. While genetics still forms the central part of the human psyche (心理), the research finds that personality traits (特征) are “contagious”(传染的) among children. “Our finding flies in the face of common assumptions that personality can't be changed,” said Dr. Jennifer Neal, co-author of the study. The researchers studied the personalities and social networks of two pre-school classes fora full school year. One of the classes was a set of three-year-olds, and the other a set of four-year-olds. Children whose friends were hard-working or outgoing gradually took on these personality traits over time. Psychology expert Dr. Emily Dublin said kids are having a far bigger effect on each other than people may realize. The new study is not the first to explore the contagious effects of personality traits. A 2015psychology study found that rudeness at work can be contagious as it travels from person to person “like a disease”. The study found that seeing a boss being rude to an employee was enough to cause people to be rude to those around them. The researchers questioned 6,000 people on the social “climate” in their workplaces, which included offices, hotels and restaurants. They found 75 percent of those who took part said they had been treated rudely at least once in the past year. And the study also suggests that merely seeing other people being subjected to rudeness made it more likely that a person would treat their colleagues in the same way. Rudeness could include leaving someone off an invite toa company event, sending unkind emails, finding fault with others or failing to give praise. Dr. Torkelson believes companies need to be more aware of the harm that rudeness in the workplace can do as it can damage the working environment. She said better training could help to fight against the problem. 8 What does the underlined part “flies in the face of” in Paragraph 1 mean? A. Leads to. B. Results from. C. Goes against. D. Agrees with. 9. Which of the following is considered rude at the workplace? A. Ignoring the faults of co-workers. B. Not sending emails to workmates. C. Seeking praise from colleagues and bosses. D. Not inviting a colleague to a company party. 10. What is the passage mainly about? A. One's personality is hard to change. B. One's personality is shaped by genes. C. One's personality traits can spread to others. D. One's personality traits can change overnight. 11. This passage is most probably taken from ________. A. a science journal B. a study guide C. a school textbook D. a science fiction D When you think of Chinese food in the US, fried rice, or General Tso’s chicken may first come to mind. But a new museum exhibition in New York City is trying to expand visitors’ palates (味蕾). It features stories of famous cooks like Martin Yan and home cooks whose food represents 18 different regional cooking styles of China. “I think it’s unfair to just classify Chinese cooking as one,” says Kian Lam Kho, an organizer of “Sour, Sweet, Bitter, Spicy: Stories of Chinese Food and Identity in America” at the Museum of Chinese in America. “Even with the same dish or same cuisine, every family has a different variation.” That’s why the organizers say if you want to taste the full range of Chinese cuisine in the US, you’ll need to go beyond restaurants and into home kitchens, which can play a central role in many immigrants’ lives. “The kitchen itself is kind of a comfort when you come to a new country. That’s the one place where you set up as your home base, and you cook things that you remember from your past,” explains Audra Ang, another organizer. One of the home cooks showcased in the exhibition is Ni Biying, 80, of Manhattan. She worked as a live-in babysitter for years before she could finally afford to rent a home with her own kitchen. These days, you can usually find her moving around her one-bedroom apartment as a sweet smell of vinegar and rice wine floats from her stove. For Ni, a small dinner for friends and family means preparing almost a dozen different dishes. She learned some of her techniques from her father, who made most of her family’s meals when she was a child. “I still miss the beef with stir-fried celery my father used to cook,” she says. And it’s the kind of comfort food that defines Chinese food for Ni. 12. What is the new museum exhibition mainly about? A. Cuisine of different countries. B. Exploration of famous restaurants. C. History of Chinese immigration. D. Stories of Chinese food and cooks. 13 Why does the kitchen play a key role in many immigrants’ lives? A. It provides a wealthy life. B. It brings a sense of belonging. C. It helps them to accept new cultures. D. It enables them to forget the past. 14. What can we learn about Ni Biying from Paragraph 4? A. She worked in a Chinese restaurant. B. She made most meals as a child. C. She learned cooking from her father. D. She lives with a big family. 15. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Cuisine Gains New Variations B. Home Cooking Brings More to the Table C. Immigrants Seek Their Fortune in the US D. 6 What's Krissie Lamoureux's feeling about Ray's stage? A. Satisfied. B. Envious. C. Appreciative. D. Comfortable. 7. What’s the best title of this text? A. A Teacher Builds a Portable Stage B. A Different Celebration Is on Show C. A Personal Work Gains Popularity D. A Teacher Helps Deliver Diplomas 【答案】4. B 5. D 6. C 7. 根据文章第二段“Sadie asked her dad if she could receive hers on a nearby outdoor stage instead.(赛迪问她的父亲,她是否可以在附近的户外舞台接受她的表演。)” 根据文章第五段Ray所说的话““It’s such an important event for so many people. … It was almost like the first win that we’ve had in a year and a half after being beaten down,” Ray said. “We finally get to do this one thing that we’ll remember for the rest of our lives.”(“对很多人来说,这是一件非常重要的事情…… 根据文章倒数第二段“It was extremely personal,” she added. “It’s really hard as a parent to watch your child graduate from a distance and not be able to really be a part of anything.(“这是非常私人的,”她补充道。 以及倒数第三段“His mom, Krissie Lamoureux said the experience felt relaxed and easy while still providing an important photo opportunity for this milestone in their lives.(他的妈妈克莉丝·拉莫瑞说,这次经历让他们感到放松和轻松,同时也为他们生命中的这一里程碑提供了一个重要的拍照机会。)” A。 C Pre-school children who spend time together take on one another's personalities, a new research has found. 8. What does the underlined part “flies in the face of” in Paragraph 1 mean? A. Leads to. B. Results from. C. Goes against. D. Agrees with. 9. Which of the following is considered rude at the workplace? A. Ignoring the faults of co-workers. B. Not sending emails to workmates. C. Seeking praise from colleagues and bosses. D. One's personality traits can spread to others. D. One's personality traits can change overnight. 11. This passage is most probably taken from ________. Results from由……造成;C. Goes against违反;D. 13. Why does the kitchen play a key role in many immigrants’ lives? Chinese Restaurant Tells Immigrant Tales 【答案】12. D 13. B 14. C 15. However 43. will be brought 44. first 45. to promote 46. published 47. won 48. that 49. swimmer 50. for 【解析】 【分析】本文是一篇说明文。 故填However。 故填will be brought。 故填first。 故填to promote。 分析句子结构可知,本句是“It is reported that ... 故填that。 故填for。 Linda's father bought her the new bike the day before yesterday, which made her very exciting. Then she began to ride it fast on the road. Seeing a man getting closely to her, Linda couldn't stop it and as a result, she knocked onto the man. Being very kind, so the man didn't scold her at all. Instead, he told her how dangerously it was to ride a bike so fast. He asked her to keep the lesson in mind. Linda felt regretful but ashamed. She promised keep the lesson in mind forever. Then, the man bend down and began to repair her bike. After a while, he got them repaired. Linda was greatly moved. She thanked the man and left happily. get close to接近……,是固定短语,故closely错误,改为close。 表示撞在某人身上用knock down/into/over,但不能用onto。 promise to do sth为固定搭配,承诺做某事。 如此题中第三处错误get close to为固定短语,get在此为系动词,close作get的表语,而第六处错误中句子改为正常语序是:it was dangerous to ride a bike so fast, dangerous作表语,在感叹句中被how修饰,所以要用形容词。 Dear Sahna, _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Yours, Li Hua 【答案】Dear Sahna, I am sorry to hear that you didn’t perform well in the contest of Chinese calligraphy and that you are feeling discouraged. Anyhow, as a foreigner, you have tried your best. As the proverb goes, failure is the mother of success. Facing failure, you shouldn’t feel sad and lose heart. On the contrary, you should analyze the cause of your failure. As far as I am concerned, you are not well prepared for it and you need more time to practice more. Chinese calligraphy is a time-consuming art, so what you need to do is spend more time on it. If you want to practice, I am willing to work as a tutor to help you improve it. 词汇积累 比赛:contest→competition 无论如何:anyhow→in any case 原因:cause→reason 帮助:help→assist 2. Facing failure, you shouldn’t feel sad and lose heart. When you are facing failure, you shouldn’t feel sad and lose heart. 1】Chinese calligraphy is a time-consuming art, so what you need to do is spend more time on it.(运用了what引导的主语从句) 【高分句型2】If you want to practice, I am willing to work as a tutor to help you improve it.(运用了if引导的条件状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
