阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
It is said that some of the world's 7,000 languages are in danger of getting extinct(
)"For example,Ainu,a language in Japan,is now seriously threatened, with only 10
native speakers remaining,"said lead study author Tatsuya Amano at the University of
Cambridge in England.
The scientists found that 25 percent of the world's languages are threatened().
After identifying where the endangered languages were, they looked for any
environmental and social or economic factors those languages might have in common,
such as poor areas or rapid population growth."We find that at the global scale, language
speaker declines are strongly linked to economic growth-that is,declines are particularly
occurring in economically developed regions, said Amano.
"One important finding of this new study is that languages in the tropics and
Himalayan region are likely to be increasingly threatened in the near future, because these
regions still have many local languages with a small number of speakers, and at the same
time are experiencing rapid economic growth,"said Amano.
Economic growth may endanger languages for a variety of reasons. For instance,
speakers of endangered languages may view another more popular language as offering
economic opportunities, and thus abandon their own languages."There are other
important factors that mightend anger languages,"said the researchers. For instance,
policies regarding how languages are used and taught in schools can be very different
among countries and even within each country, and these factors may explain more
detailed patterns in language endangerment.
Amano suggested it could be possible to forecast()future threats to the diversity
(多样化)of languages..“There exists detailed information on future changes in the
environment,economies and climates(气候),”Amano said.“Using such information,
together with the findings of this study and further analysis,we would like to understand
what will happen to the world's languages, where it will happen and which languages will
be threatened(威胁)in particular.”

B
Learning any language is hard, but learning English can be especially challenging.
Why?Because native speakers use the language in ways that textbooks could never
describe. In particular, words that British people use cause many language students to
scratch()their heads.
Here's an example:You overhear a Briton calling someone a "wazzock".But what
exactly is a wazzock?This word,in fact,means a foolish person,although there's
nothing about it that would help you guess that. There are many strange terms like this in
British English-the Oxford English Dictionary would be much smaller without these odd
usages filling its pages.
How can these odd words be explained?Part of the answer is the British sense of
humor.Britons don't like to take things too seriously, and this is evident through many
British words and phrases. For example,to "spend a penny"means to use the bathroom.
It refers to the days when people had to pay a penny to use a public toilet.
In an interview for the BBC's website,British linguist David Crystal suggested there
may be historical reasons for the large number of odd words and phrases in British
English. He thinks that they began in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. This was a
great age for the theater, when Shakespeare and other writers worked hard to keep up
with the demand for new plays. The theater's popularity also created an incentive to invent
new words. With this in mind, perhaps Shakespeare and his peers are to blame for unusual British
words such as“codswallop'”and“balderdash”-which both,mean“nonsense'”(废话).
While these strange words may be confusing to non-native speakers, they certainly
make studying English a lot more interesting.
5.According to the text, why may non-native speakers find it more challenging to learn
English?
A.Dictionaries are too complicated to understand.
B.A large number of strange expressions confuse them.
C.The English vocabulary is too large for them to learn.
D.The English textbooks they use are usually out of date.

If you have a big test coming up or just want to do well in class, studying is one of
the best things you can do to improve your grade.Even though revising things you already
learned might seem boring, you'll feel a lot more comfortable with the material.9
Study in 1-hour blocks.
Keep your study time shorter so you don't get tired.Set aside()an hour for each
of your subjects so you have time to revise them.10 In this way,you don't get
information mixed up between classes.
11
Step away for a few minutes every hour so you don't feel overworked.Since studying
takes up a lot of energy and brainpower, schedule in 5-10 minutes every hour where you
just relax.Avoid working through the breaks.
Schedule time to study every day.
Try to set aside a regular time to go over notes for class.12 So,you're able to
focus a little better. If you can,try to plan the same time every day so you can get into a
regular routine(惯例).
Work somewhere quiet.
13 Avoid studying in a room with other loud people or distractions()since
it'll be hard to focus and remember the material.Instead,go into your room and shut the
door,or find a quiet spot at the school library where you can sit.

C.Only focus on one subject at a time during each block.
