①What makes a champion (冠军)? Is it just because of good luck or does hard work matter more? Let’s explore a story about a young man, Mike.
②Mike lived in a small town. He practised running every day, rain or shine. He had a dream in his heart—to become a marathon (马拉松) champion. One day, he heard a city marathon would be held on 5th May. That meant he had twenty days to prepare for it. He practised harder before the marathon. As the marathon day got closer, Mike felt excited.
③Finally, it came. Experienced runners and sports players from different areas met in the race. Mike gave it his all. However, he felt a sharp pain (剧烈的疼痛) in his leg halfway. He didn’t want to stop so he just slowed down to run forward. At that time, he thought of his father’s words: It’s not about how you start, but how you finish. It was difficult for Mike to move forward. Other runners passed by, but he kept moving. His determination (决心) was stronger. In the end, he got to the finish line.
④Mike didn’t win the marathon, but his story of determination won the hearts of many people. He hoped to come back stronger and win the marathon next year.
⑤Mike’s story shows that becoming a champion is not just about luck. More importantly, it needs lots of hard work. You have to practise every day, even when you feel tired or bored. Never give up when you meet difficulties.

3. How does the writer lead in the topic (导入话题)?
A. By giving examples. B. By listing numbers. C. By asking questions.
4. What did Mike do during the marathon?
A. He asked his father for help.
B. He stopped halfway to relax.
C. He tried his best to move forward.
5. What do we know about Mike from the passage?
A. He finished the race finally.
B. He didn’t prepare for the race.
C. He won the race with the help of many people.
6. What can we learn from Mike’s story?
A. Two heads are better than one.
B. Exercise shapes our body and mind.
C. Success belongs to the persevering (坚持不懈的).

During the May Day holiday, many people want to find dazi (搭子) on Xiaohongshu or Weibo for travelling. The activity of finding dazi is a new way of social contact (社交) for young people. Finding dazi helps people find someone who has the same hobby and it doesn’t take much time.
A girl called Ge Jinyuan is a high school student from Shandong. She likes talking with her meal dazi when she is having lunch. “We love to share our ideas on the food,” said the girl. “If my meal dazi doesn’t come to school one day, I will be sad.”
“It takes a lot of time to have traditional friendships. But it doesn’t need much time to have a dazi,” said another teenage girl Wang Zhimin, a student from Shanxi. Ge Jinyuan also has the same idea. She doesn’t want to spend too much time making friends. So having a dazi is good for her. She can feel relaxed and then has more time to study.
What’s more, Dazi sometimes may give you some big surprises. “Once, my game dazi and I did something wrong when playing an online game, but we worked together and won the game in the end. By playing the game together, I find I like working with others now!” Wang said.
Dazi is mostly helpful but it can be risky. People may lie on the Internet. For example, a young and beautiful girl on the Internet may be an old, short, and heavy man in real life. So think twice when finding dazi.
7. Which of the following dazi is NOT mentioned (提及) in this passage?
A. Travel dazi. B. Film dazi. C. Meal dazi.
8. According to the passage, why do people like finding dazi?
A. To spend more time with others.
B. To make friends from different places.
C. To save (节省) time to find people with the same hobbies.
9. What does the underlined word “risky” mean in Paragraph 5?
A. 有实力的 B. 有风险的 C. 真实的
