Unit 2 Dream jobs-E Writing This writing section in Unit 2 “Dream jobs” of Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press (2024) English textbook for Grade 8 focuses on guiding students to write about their dream jobs. It builds on the vocabulary, grammar, and speaking skills developed in previous parts of the unit. Students are expected to integrate what they have learned about different jobs, reasons for choosing a job, and the skills and qualities required for those jobs into a well - structured written composition. 教学目标 1. Knowledge Objectives Students will be able to master the key vocabulary related to jobs, such as “engineer”, “doctor”, “teacher”, “artist” etc., and phrases like “dream job”, “because of”, “be good at”. They can correctly use relevant grammar knowledge, including modal verbs for speculation (e.g., “might”, “could”, “must” to express possibilities about jobs) and simple future tense (e.g., “I will...”, “I am going to...”) to describe their future career plans. 2. Ability Objectives Students will be capable of writing a clear and coherent short passage about their dream jobs, including stating the job, reasons for choosing it, and what they will do to achieve this goal. Develop students' skills in organizing ideas before writing, using appropriate sentence structures and connectors to make the writing flow smoothly. Improve students' ability to check and revise their own writing for grammar, spelling, and logical errors. 3. Emotional Objectives Stimulate students' interest in thinking about their future careers and encourage them to set clear goals. Foster students' confidence in expressing their personal ideas and aspirations in English through writing. 教学重难点 1. Key Points Guide students to use accurate vocabulary and grammar to describe their dream jobs. Teach students how to organize their writing in a logical order, usually including an introduction (stating the dream job), a body (reasons and future actions), and a conclusion (hopes for the future). 2. Difficult Points Help students provide detailed and convincing reasons for choosing their dream jobs. This requires them to think deeply and express their thoughts precisely in English. Enable students to use a variety of sentence structures and avoid repeating the same patterns, which can be challenging for junior high school students. 1. Vocabulary Jobs: engineer, doctor, teacher, artist, scientist, lawyer, accountant, journalist, nurse, pilot, chef, etc. Qualities and Skills: creative, hard - working, patient, good at communication, have strong logical thinking, be proficient in... Useful Phrases: dream job, because of, in order to, be interested in, make a contribution to, look forward to 2. Grammar Modal Verbs for Speculation: “must” for strong probability: He must be a doctor. He always wears a white coat. “might”/“could” for weak probability: She might/could be a singer. She likes singing. Simple Future Tense: “be going to + verb 原形” for future plans based on present evidence or personal intentions: I am going to study hard to become a teacher. “will + verb 原形” for spontaneous decisions or predictions: I think I will work in a big company in the future. 教学过程 1. Warming - up (5 minutes) Show students a PPT with pictures of different jobs. Ask them to quickly say out the names of the jobs they see. For example, when showing a picture of a doctor, students say “doctor”. This activity aims to review job - related vocabulary learned before. Then, randomly pick some students and ask: “What do you think is the most interesting job? Why?” This question can arouse students' interest and get them thinking about jobs, leading to the topic of writing about dream jobs. 2. Pre - writing (10 minutes) Brainstorming: Divide students into groups of four. Give each group a piece of paper. Let them brainstorm and write down as many jobs as they can think of within 2 minutes. After that, each group presents their results. The group that lists the most jobs wins. This activity helps students expand their vocabulary related to jobs. Model Analysis: Show students a sample passage about a dream job on the screen. For example: “My dream job is to be a teacher. I have always been interested in education because I think teaching is a meaningful job. It allows me to help students learn new knowledge and grow up. To achieve this goal, I am going to study hard in all my subjects, especially education - related courses. I also plan to take part in some volunteer teaching activities in the future. I believe that with hard work, my dream will come true one day.” Read the passage aloud to the students and then analyze the structure with them. Point out that the passage has an introduction (stating the dream job), a body (reasons and future actions), and a conclusion (hopes for the future). Also, underline the key vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structures used in the passage for students to notice. 3. While - writing (20 minutes) Outlining: Ask students to start planning their own writing. They need to write down an outline, including what their dream job is, at least two reasons for choosing it, and two things they will do to achieve it. Walk around the classroom and offer help to students who have difficulties. Drafting: After finishing the outline, students start writing their first drafts. Remind them to use the vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structures they have learned, and to follow the logical order of the model passage. Encourage them to write as much as possible without worrying too much about grammar mistakes at this stage. Peer - review: When most students have finished their first drafts, pair them up. Each student exchanges their writing with their partner. They read their partner's writing and give suggestions in three aspects: content (is the reason clear? are the future actions practical?), language (any grammar or spelling mistakes?), and organization (is the structure clear?). They can use a red pen to mark the mistakes and write down their suggestions on the paper. 4. Post - writing (10 minutes) Revision: Based on their partner's suggestions, students revise their own writing. They correct the mistakes, add more details if necessary, and make their writing better. Presentation: Select several students to come to the front of the class and read their revised writing aloud. After each presentation, ask other students to give a simple comment, such as what they like about the writing or what can be improved further. Summary: Summarize the key points of writing about dream jobs, including the vocabulary, grammar, and writing structure. Encourage students to keep practicing writing about their future plans in their daily lives. 教学反思 After this 45 - minute writing class, overall, most students were able to actively participate in various activities. The warming - up activity successfully aroused their interest in the topic, and the pre - writing activities, such as brainstorming and model analysis, provided them with sufficient guidance and inspiration for writing. However, there are still some areas that need improvement. In the while - writing stage, some students had difficulty in expressing their ideas precisely in English, which indicates that more vocabulary and sentence - pattern training should be carried out in future classes. During the peer - review process, some students did not take it seriously enough, and their suggestions were not very helpful. In the future, more detailed guidance on peer - review should be given to ensure that students can truly benefit from this activity. In addition, the time for students to present their writing was a bit tight, and some students did not have enough time to fully show their work. Next time, the time allocation can be adjusted more reasonably to give every student a better chance to share and get feedback. Overall, through this teaching, I will continue to improve my teaching methods to better meet the needs of students in writing instruction. 2 / 37 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
