Bert won a national prize called Young Heroes for his “green” project. This public-spirited young person was now a university student. His love for insects grew deeper and he was going to protect them for the future.
▲ . When he was around 4 or 5, he always loved to watch different insects, especially beautiful swallowtails(凤蝶). One interesting fact he learned about swallowtails was that their bright colors warned hungry animals that they tasted bad. And it was also fun to watch how they came into being. But the reason he really fell in love with them was that they were very accessible. For example, if you wanted to attract(吸引) swallowtails, you could plant some zinnias, a kind of bright flower.
Bert started a zinnia garden at his house, where he raised a large number of swallowtails over the years. With the world’s swallowtail population falling, Bert wanted people to realize that if insects like swallowtails disappeared, so would all the others above them on the food chain. To make the fact clear and easy to understand for other students, he also created a zinnia garden at his junior high school.
Part of the joy for Bert was watching the younger students get excited when running after swallowtails. “Whenever a swallowtail lands on them, the young students will soon fall in love with these cute insects. They develop a new appreciation(欣赏) for them.” he said.
Bert put his efforts into the environmental educational project and made it take flight.

① It’s 5:30 a.m., and your phone rings. A policeman says someone broke into a store and took something expensive. They need you right away because witnesses(目击者) may be dishonest while the clues(线索) at the scene(现场) will always tell the truth. It is your job to study the whole scene for clues that will help catch the thief. You are a crime(犯罪) scene officer, and the game is on.
② Outside the store, you see a broken window, but there is no glass on the street. There are shoe-prints, and marks left by the car tires(轮胎) which are seen as two direct clues around you.
③ First, you look at the shoe-prints. They’re large, so you’re likely to look for a man. You take pictures of the shoe’s pattern. This can tell you the type of the shoes. You then check the space between the shoe-prints. You now know how long the person’s steps were. This gives you an idea of the height of the thief.
④ Then, as you follow the shoe-prints over to the tire marks, the spaces between the steps get bigger. They lead to the passenger’s side of the car. Now you know the thief probably didn’t work alone. Again, you take pictures of the tire marks. They can help you find out the type of the car and the direction it went.
⑤ The most important clues will come from a person’s body. You find some fingerprints near the broken window. Using a computer, you can match them with millions of others. You also find a hair at the scene. You keep it, because you know hair will show a person’s DNA. You can compare this with other people’s DNA. If you can match the hair with the fingerprint or the DNA, you will know who was in the store.
⑥ Will you find the thief? You now have a lot of information, so it’s possible. For a crime scene officer, it’s all in a day’s work.
( ) 5. _______ made a call at 5:30 a.m..
A .policeman B. A passenger C. A thief D. A crime scene officer
( ) 6. According to paragraph 3, the crime scene officer CAN find information about ________.

A. ① ② B. ① ③ C. ② ④ D. ③ ⑤
( ) 7. The correct order to find the thief is that________.
( ) 8. The structure of the passage is ________.

How many students in your class wear glasses? Probably a lot. To treat nearsightedness(近视), many choose surgery(手术).But can you have good eyesight after the surgery forever? People with nearsightedness can't see things clearly because their eyes focus light incorrectly. Normally, light enters the eye and focuses directly on the retina(视网 膜).In nearsighted people, light focuses in front of the retina. As a result, far-away objects appear unclear while close objects remain clear.
Usually, Nearsighted adults deal with nearsightedness through surgeries like laser eye surgery( 激 光 手 术 ), which reshapes the comnea (角膜) using lasers, or IOLs, which replace the lenses (晶状体) with a clear one. For kids, they can wear keratoscopes(角膜镜).
“After the surgery, I can see very clearly and life is more convenient for me,” said Xu Jiayi.“However, it hurt a lot right after the surgery and taking medicine afterward was troublesome." she added.
“The surgery just let you ‘take off your glasses ’. If you don't look after your eye health, nearsightedness may return even after a surgery. After looking at the computer all day at work and then using my phone, things start to look unclear to me again, ” said Du Anni, 32, who had a laser eye surgery nine years ago. She also mentioned that you should go to the doctors to see if your eyes are OK each year.
