Passage 1
A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer’s showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted.
As Graduation Day approached, the young man waited for signs that his father had bought the car. Finally, on the morning of his graduation, his father called him into his study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son a beautifully wrapped gift box. Curious, but somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the young man’s name embossed(饰以浮饰) in gold. Passage 3
In early November of 1942, my geology (地质学) class was supposed to go on a field trip to see the mica mine (云母矿). Although it rained, everyone showed up on time. I was the only girl in the class. We all fit into two cars.
Near Deary, Mr. Tier, our teacher, went into a store to ask about the direction, while townsmen looked at us with curiosity. On the store owner’s advice, we drove out into the hills for a few miles. Then we left the cars. We were afraid they would get stuck in the mud.
Eventually, we located the mine near the top of the mountain. There was a very small hole, running about two or three hundred feet into the mountainside. The passage (通道) was so narrow that we could touch both sides with our hands, and not tall enough to allow us to stand up straight. The first boy held the torch; we took hold of the backs of each other’s coats, in a line, and followed him in, ducking our heads. After getting in, we were disappointed because it was not the mine our teacher was looking for.
The rain was coming down hard as we started back to the cars to go home. Back at Deary, we went into a drugstore and stood around its big heating stove to dry out. The clerk was a middleaged lady. Seeing our entirely wet hair and clothes, she handed each of us a cup of hot water immediately and asked if there was anything wrong with any of us.

My mom asked where I was going. “I’m leaving home,” I said. “What’s that you’re carrying?” she asked.
“Some clothes and food,” I replied.

Being deaf in a hearing world can lead to painful feelings of isolation. Waitress Kelsey recently shared an experience on a social media sharing site that quickly zoomed to the top of the “front page of the Internet”. In her brief post, Kelsey explained that she waits tables at a bar during the evenings, and one night she noticed a deaf man sitting alone in her section.
When Kelsey isn’t working at the bar during the daytime she makes a good hourly pay doing sign language interpretation, so she sensed an opportunity to use her skill to make this customer feel a little less alone in the world. She approached his table and began chatting with him in sign language.
Noticing Kelsey signing, the customers at the nearby table asked how long she'd been using sign language. They had a brief conversation about her goal of becoming certified to interpret sign language in a medical or mental health setting. “Thank you for what you do, it absolutely matters!” the note said. “Good luck with finishing your degree!” Not only that, but they’d left her a $100 tip.
Kelsey was moved by the kind note, especially because she wasn’t doing anything out of the ordinary. To her, she was just communicating with someone in a language that only they understood. “When I was young, I had so much energy and I loved building things. If I had an idea, I had to build it right now using what I could find around me,” says Danish artist Thomas Dambo. When Dambo was seven years old, he bought a mountain of cushions (垫子) from a nearby market to build a game room in his parents’ house. As a teenager, he built a “crazy” castle in his backyard.
Years later, 42-year-old Dambo is proudly showing his latest work: a giant (巨人) called Little Lui. Five meters tall, Little Lui is one of the six giants placed in the corners of Peel Region of Western Australia, which will be on show for at least a year. For many years, I wanted to be a music video director. After graduating from high school, I moved to Los Angeles. I earned a degree in video production there. Fortune smiled upon me as I quickly worked as a production helper. I was young and ambitious, doing my best in my dream work.
One day, I worked as a volunteer at an award show. A production manager talked with me and said that I was going to be a “big fish” one day. I was praised, but frightened. When I held a copy of my beautiful children’s book in my hands, I felt really happy from the bottom of my heart. I may not have become a big fish, but I did achieve a goal. Success comes from efforts. When you have something to fight for, you’re not far from success.

Passage 2
Whenever I think of Ms. Anita Moore, I always smile and feel fortunate to have her as my teacher. All of her students knew she loved being a teacher. Her classroom was always a safe place where we were encouraged to share, think, and express ourselves.
One of the memories that always stuck with me was a reading class when Ms. Moore read a story aloud and started to cry. The main character in the story reminded her of her grandmother. She paused to share about her relationship with her grandmother and made the connection as to how that relationship helped understand the story.
Ms. Moore tried her best to make a connection with each student in her classroom. She knew what we liked and used that information to bring our interests into the classroom. That is one of the reasons why Ms. Moore will always be my favorite teacher. She brought various types of books to our classroom and allowed us to take them home. It was she that helped my love for reading grow.
Ms. Moore also went beyond classroom instruction. She decided that our school should have a choir and that all of her students should audition (试演). Without her, I would never have taken part in this type of after-school activity. Once it was time for the annual 5th grade weekend camping trip, my parents refused to let me attend. Ms. Moore came to my home to persuade (说服) them. Although I was still not allowed to go, it was amazing to me that a teacher would visit my home to help me be part of a school tradition with my classmates.

With the pressure of everyone seeing my training wheels,I determined to let them go.This was the first big change I’d ever made on my own.
I went to my parents and told them all about my dilemma. They were more than happy to help.We went outside and got my bike.Instead of running away and hiding behind,I stood in front of my bike and took great pride in my decision as my dad removed the training wheels.
I got on and steadied myself. My heart raced but my feet and hands were calm.My dad started to push before my feet even moved and suddenly I was off.The fear faded away and a relaxed mind came into its place. It was crazy to think how quickly I learned something that took so long for me to even try!
My confidence soared (高涨).This was going to be the start of a brand new world for me.My accomplishment would carry me forth to new goals and wins.I realized that if I set my mind on doing something,I could achieve it.

After their three children grew up and left home, Margaret Thompson and her husband, Kenneth, stretched their legs together on walking holidays in Switzerland. In Interlaken, they would head up the mountain and watch the paragliders (滑翔伞运动员) launch themselves into the sky. Back in town, in a large park, they watched them return to the earth. “Some day I’d love to do that,” Thompson told Kenneth.
But there was always so much to do in Interlaken. Besides, Thompson didn’t know if Kenneth would have enjoyed it. “He was not so keen on heights as I was,” she said. So she continued to watch the gliders take flight and land.
Kenneth died in 2005. Eleven years later, Thompson finally took to the skies herself, in a paraglider at the age of 80. Although some people get scared while flying, she said she just feels free. Thompson did her second paragliding when she turned 85, and raised nearly 2,000 pounds for a local charity.
Before leaving Interlaken after her second flight, Thompson asked the organizers about the age limit for paragliding. They said: “Any age, as long as you’ re fit.” Thompson, now 86, plans her third flight for when she is 90.
Thompson grew up living above her parents shop in Belfast. At 18, she helped in the shop while studying for her music diplomas (文凭) in Stranmillis, south Belfast. She started to teach piano to local children, and at the height of her teaching she gave 70 lessons a week. She still has 15 pupils on her books. “Over the years I’ve had so many that I’m teaching their children now.”
Is she scared of getting older? “Fear? No. People say: Isn’t getting old awful? I say: No. You are free to do more of the things that you want to do.”
“People might worry about falling, it being the end of them. But that doesn’t bother me at all. When it’s your time, it’s your time. No matter where you are.” Thompson added.

Marathon is one of the most difficult races in track and field, at a little over 42 kilometers. To be a world-class marathoner, you must run that distance in two and a half hours. But for some, completing a marathon race is a lifelong dream.
Jacqueline’s dream of being a world-class runner began when she was a child in Kenya. She soon realized she had the talent and the willpower to compete. She also knew she would have to train full-time, which meant not being able to work to help support her family. But she was confident that she could bring home prize money.
Jacqueline traveled to China to compete in the Zheng-Kai marathon knowing she had a good shot at winning the race, but more importantly, the $10,000 prize that went with it. On September 7, 1930, Yuan Longping was born in Beijing. Fluent in English, his mother often read Friedrich Nietzsche’s works to him. Influenced by his mother, Yuan Longping liked English, geography and chemistry at school. After graduating from university, he became a teacher in the countryside of Hunan in 1953.
With lots of crop failures, nationwide hunger hit China in the 1960s, making many people live a bad life. Yuan was sad and felt he must do something. (23-24
I was 11 years old standing outside in just my underwear while I watched the house that I grew up in rapidly burn to the ground.
A few minutes earlier I had been in bed when a scream woke me up. My grandma’s bedroom was just next to mine and my brother’s. A fire had broken out there and awakened her. Hearing her, my brother jumped into action, running from room to room quickly waking everyone in the house. Before we could do anything the fire destroyed it. We all had just made it outside when the flames (火焰) took hold of every room.
I stood there shaking while the fire destroyed my books, clothes, and toys. I watched helplessly while my mom cried and my dad sighed. I wondered what was going to happen to us because we had lost all our things.
As I looked around, though, I realized something for the first time: The things that mattered were not things. I saw my brother running around to get help. I saw my grandma and dad wrapped in each other’s arms and my mom holding our little dog. I realized at that moment that we were all alive. Passage 4
I first met Paul Newman in 1968, when George Roy Hill, the director of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, introduced us in New York City. When the studio didn’t want me for the film - it wanted somebody as well known as Paul — he stood up for me. I don’t know how many people would have done that; they would have listened to their agents or the studio powers.
The friendship that grew out of the experience of making that film and The Sting four years later had its root in the fact that although there was an age difference, we both came from a tradition of theater and live TV. We were respectful of craft(技艺) and focused on digging into the characters we were going to play. Both of us had the qualities and virtues that are typical of American actors: humorous, aggressive, and making fun of each other — but always with an underlying affection. Those were also at the core(核心) of our relationship off the screen.
We shared the belief that if you’re fortunate enough to have success, you should put something back — he with his Newman’s Own food and his Hole in the Wall camps for kids who are seriously ill, and me with Sundance and the institute and the festival. Paul and I didn’t see each other all that regularly, but sharing that brought us together. We supported each other financially and by showing up at events.
I last saw him a few months ago. He’d been in and out of the hospital. He and I both knew what the deal was, and we didn’t talk about it. Ours was a relationship that didn’t need a lot of words.
1.Why was the studio unwilling to give the role to author at first?
A.Paul Newman wanted it.
B.The studio powers didn’t like his agent.
C.He wasn’t famous enough.
D.The director recommended someone else.
2.Why did Paul and the author have a lasting friendship?
A.They were of the same age.
B.They worked in the same theater.
C.They were both good actors.
D.They han similar charactertics.
3.What does the underlined word “that” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Their belief.
B.Their care for children.
C.Their success.
D.Their support for each other.
4.What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A.To show his love of films.
B.To remember a friend.
C.To introduce a new movie.
D.To share his acting experience.

Passage 1
One night, as I was driving down the road, I found something was sitting in the middle of the road. A few seconds later, I realized I was looking at a large turtle (海龟). Afraid of it being crashed by cars, so I pulled over, ran across the road and dragged the turtle to safety. But I’d made one big mistake.
I had heard that the best way to pick up a turtle without hurting it was picking it by the tail in order not to get bitten. So I’d made that big mistake. While the turtle turned out OK generally, I was determined to figure out how to move a turtle properly. I needed to find someone who dealt with turtles. I found the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre. I talked to Dr. Sue, its Executive and Medical Director.
Dr. Sue told me that the organization dealt with a number of aspects of turtle conservation, including rescue, settlement, birth programs, research, and education. Sue explained that southern Ontario is home to a vast majority of turtles in Canada, but is also one of the vastest road networks of the country.
“Ninety percent of injured turtles brought in are caused by cars. These turtles spend a lot of time on land. And they do travel many kilometers on land for a variety of reasons, to find a nesting spot, or to hang out for the summer or winter. Turtles know where they want to go. So, just keep them going in the direction they want to go and you may have saved a turtle’s life,” Dr. Sue said.
Once an injured turtle arrives at the center, there are medical facilities (设备) ready to go, including an X-ray machine. That’s when the team gets to work with healing injuries, and help their patient.
1.Why did the author stop the car?
A.To help the turtle. B.To see the thing clearly.
C.To prevent a car accident. D.To find something good.
2.What happened to the turtle?
A.It got hurt by people previously. B.It lost its direction.
C.It was run over by a car. D.It was injured a little bit by the author.
3.What did Dr. Sue suggest at last?
A.Leaving the turtles alone. B.Making Ontario home to turtles.
C.Changing the road conditions. D.Helping turtles find nesting spots.
4.What does the underlined word “patient” refer to in the last paragraph?
A.The director. B.The turtle. C.The author. D.The driver.

Angrily, he raised his voice to his father and said, “With all your money you give me a Bible?” He then stormed out of the house, leaving the Bible there.
Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and a wonderful family, but realizing his father was very old, he thought perhaps he should go to see him. He had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make the arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed (遗赠) all of his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care of things.
When he arrived at his father’s house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart. He began to search through his father's important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it years ago.
With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. As he was reading, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer’s name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words…“PAID IN FULL”.

根据第二段的“Curious, but somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the young man’s name embossed(饰以浮饰) in gold.( 年轻人很好奇,但又有些失望,他打开盒子,发现里面是一本精美的皮面《圣经》,上面用金色凸印着年轻人的名字。)”和最后一段的“As he was reading, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer's name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words…“PAID IN FULL”.(就在他读的时候,一把车钥匙从《圣经》的后面掉了出来。车的标签上写着经销商的名字,就是他想要的那辆跑车的经销商。标签上写着他的毕业日期,还有一行字:“已全部付清”。)”可知,毕业日,父亲送给儿子的礼物是一本圣经和一辆车。故选A。
根据第二段的“Angrily, he raised his voice to his father and said, “With all your money you give me a Bible?” He then stormed out of the house, leaving the Bible there.(他生气地提高嗓门对父亲说:“你有那么多钱,你就给我一本《圣经》?”然后,他冲出了房子,把圣经留在了那里。)”和第三段的“He had not seen him since that graduation day.( 自从毕业那天起,他就没见过他。)”
根据倒数第二段“When he arrived at his father's house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart.(当他到达父亲的家时,突然的悲伤和遗憾充满了他的内心。)”

Passage 4
When I was 8 years old, I decided to run away from home after a quarrel with my mother. With my suitcase packed and some sandwiches in a bag, I started for the front door.
My mom asked where I was going. “I’m leaving home,” I said. “What’s that you’re carrying?” she asked.
“Some clothes and food,” I replied.
“If you want to run away, that’s all right,” she said. “But you came into this home without anything and you can leave the same way.”
I threw my suitcase and sandwiches on the floor and started for the door again.
“Wait a minute,” Mom said. “You didn’t have any clothes on when you arrived, and I want them back.”
This infuriated me. I tore my clothes off — shoes, socks, underwear and all — and shouted, “Can I go now?”
“Yes,” my mom answered, “but once you close that door, don’t expect to come back.”
I was so angry that I shut the door forcefully and stepped out of my home. Then I noticed down the street two neighbor girls walking toward our house. I was so shy that I saw the big spruce (云杉) tree in our yard and jumped under the low-hang ng branches (树枝). A pile of dried-up brown needles (针状物) were beneath the tree, and you can’t imagine the pain those sharp needles caused to my body.
After I was sure the girls had passed by, I ran to the front door and knocked at it loudly.
“It’s Billy! Let me in!”
The voice behind the door answered, “Billy doesn’t live here anymore. He ran away from home.”
Looking behind me to see if anyone else was coming down the street I said, “Mom! I’m sorry. I’m still your son. Let me in!”

Being the strong wife and mother that she is, Diana Register often hid her deep pain and suffering from those around her. In the weeks and months following her husband’s cancer diagnosis, Diana would search for “hiding” places where she could let the uncontrollable waterfalls of tears flow from her eyes.
“The storage room was a favorite. Then was the shower. But when I wasn’t home, it was the parking lots that served as my hiding places,” she said. After her husband passed away, parking lots were Diana’s safe haven (避风港) for pain and sorrow.

And, soon it fell down on the terrace of the unknown building. The young son was surprised to see this. He had cut the kite loose from its thread so it could fly higher, but instead, it fell down. He asked his father, “Father, I thought that after cutting off the thread, the kite could freely fly higher. But why did it fall down?”
The father explained, “Son, at the height of life that we live in, we often think that some things we are tied with are preventing us from going further higher. The thread was not holding the kite from going higher, but it was helping it stay higher when the wind slowed down and when the wind picked up, you helped the kite go up higher in a proper direction(方向)through the thread. Passage 3
She didn’t think much about the whole exchange until the customers had left the restaurant and she was tidying up the tables. There, on the table of the customers who’d seen her American Sign Language conversation with the deaf man, was a handwritten note on the receipt.
Yet to the deaf man and the people seated next to him, she’d bridged a gap and helped someone who probably feels lonely a lot of the time.
Kelsey shared the note on the Internet to spread more love and light in the world.

A.It is her part-time job.

A.He left Kelsey $100 as a tip.
B.He could use sign language.
C.He found it hard to communicate with Kelsey.

3.What did the people at the table next to the deaf man think of Kelsey?
A.She should use the Internet as a tool.
B.She needs to study further for a degree.
C.She is so kind to serve those in need.
D.She is wasting time working as a waitress.
4.What lesson can we learn from Kelsey’s experience?

Passage 4
A call came into Jimmy Gilleece’s bar. A newly married woman, who had spent the afternoon at his bar, couldn’t find her wallet. She didn’t care about her ID, credit cards, or 150 in cash-but her wedding ring was inside.
Gilleece, 42, didn’t like the idea that a theft could have occurred at his place. So he determined to find the wallet. He spent hours on videos from surveillance (监控) cameras, watching the woman’s every step in the bar. Within minutes, a young man approached the bar, put something in his pocket, and walked off.
Gilleece posted a clip (视频片段) on the bar’s Facebook page to find out who the young man was. Within hours, Gilleece got a text from 17-year-old Rivers Prather, who said he’d done it because he hadn’t eaten in two days. He said he saw the ring but thought it was fake, so he took the money and threw the wallet into the ocean. Then he bought a sandwich.
Gilleece told the teen to meet him at the docks (码头). There they talked a lot and Gilleece knew that Prather was from a poor family. Seeing the teenager’s small build, Gilleece thought he was more of a kid than a criminal. However, because of the missing ring, Prather could be put into prison.
Gilleece decided to help the kid. He hired two local divers to search the waters where the wallet had been thrown. More than an hour passed, with no sign of the ring. Gilleece grew worried. And then a diver popped up. In his hand was the wallet, and inside was the ring. When Gilleece called the wallet’s owner, she burst into tears and immediately dropped the charge against Prather for stealing the ring.

This work makes Dambo’s giants up to 99 around the world. His gentle giants have found homes in many different countries, as far as the United States, Belgium, China, Denmark, South Korea and now in Australia.
“For me, giants represent (代表) the voice of nature,” Dambo says. This deep respect for nature is the focus of Dambo’s architectural works. Dambo’s giants are made almost from local recycled wood: their faces from second-hand furniture and their hair from tree branches and leaves. Taking about 750 hours to complete, each giant is built out in nature.
“I hope by visiting the giants, people will think of rubbish as a resource. I think it’s really important that next generations are connected to nature,” Dambo says. “That’s why I tried to build the giants to attract young people. I want people to be inspired and to realize they don’t need a lot to create something big and beautiful.”

The sound that no one wants to hear alone in the woods caught Benham’s attention. It was the deep roar of a black bear. Benham drove around to see the beast, which weighed around 350 pounds, some 100 feet away. In a second, the bear grabbed(猛然抓取) Buddy’s head and started pulling him away.
Benham ran after them. “Honestly,” he told CBS13 in Sacramento, “the only thing I could think of was ‘save my baby’.” Rushing, he lowered his shoulder and crashed into the bear. A bright red cloud enveloped it, and the bear dropped the dog and ran off into the woods.
Buddy was in bad shape. He lay there almost out of breath and his face was terribly broken. “My first thought was that I was going to lose him,” Benham said. He picked up Buddy, put him into his car, and sped off to a nearby veterinarian (兽医). Buddy’s operation took nearly four hours.

I remember watching them with envy because I was still too small to go sledding.
It was so exhilarating when the wind whipped across my face as I flew down the hillside on the wooden sled可知作者在第一次滑雪,在木雪橇上从山上冲下去,风从脸上刮过时的感受。 故选A。

She was leading the women’s division when a male runner arrived at the water station. But any assistance from fans or race officials would result in his disqualification. Jacqueline noticed the man and immediately knew that he needed help.
Since the climate in Hunan was not friendly to growing wheat, he decided to devote himself to studying how to increase the production of rice, a basic food for over 60 percent of Chinese people. From then on, he began a lifelong connection with rice.
Yuan Longping succeeded in growing the world’s first high production hybrid rice (杂交水稻) variety in 1973, which could reach a yield of over 500 kg per mu, more than 200 kg than before. For the next four decades, he continued to work on the research of hybrid rice. In 2020, hybrid rice developed by his team achieved 1,500 kg per mu in two growing seasons, a new world record.
Nowadays, the hybrid rice is grown in almost half of China’s rice fields and its production accounts for 60 percent of the total rice production in China. The hybrid rice production is 20 percent more than the common kinds, the yearly increase of which feeds up to 100 million people.
In 2019, Yuan Longping, known as the “Father of hybrid rice”, was awarded with Medal of the Republic, China’s highest honor.
Yuan Longping’s biggest dream in life was to develop more hybrid rice varieties, which could be grown all over the world to help solve the global food problem. So far, the hybrid varieties he developed have been grown in over 40 countries, including the USA, Brazil and India.

根据文章第二段“With lots of crop failures, nationwide hunger hit China in the 1960s, making many people live a bad life. Yuan was sad and felt he must do something.(20世纪60年代,由于大量农作物歉收,中国全国范围内出现了饥荒,导致许多人生活困苦。袁隆平感到很伤心,并觉得他必须做点什么。)”可知,他希望中国人能够摆脱饥饿。故选D。
2.推理判断题。根据文章第三段“Yuan Longping succeeded in growing the world’s first high production hybrid rice (杂交水稻) variety in 1973, which could reach a yield of over 500 kg per mu, more than 200 kg than before. For the next four decades, he continued to work on the research of hybrid rice. In 2020, hybrid rice developed by his team achieved 1,500 kg per mu in two growing seasons, a new world record.(袁隆平于1973年成功培育出世界上第一个高产杂交水稻品种,其产量可达每亩500多公斤,比之前提高了200多公斤。在接下来的四十年里,他继续致力于杂交水稻的研究。2020年,他的团队培育的杂交水稻在两个生长季节内实现了每亩1500公斤的产量,创下了新的世界纪录。)”可知,作者主要通过列举具体的数字(如杂交水稻的产量、增长量等)来展示袁隆平在杂交水稻领域的成就。故选A。
根据文章第二段中“From then on, he began a lifelong connection with rice.(从那时起,他与水稻结下了终生的缘分。)”和第三段中“For the next four decades, he continued to work on the research of hybrid rice.(在接下来的四十年里,他继续从事杂交水稻的研究。)”
A“The life of Yuan Longping.(袁隆平的一生)”能够概括文章主旨。故选A。
Passage 3
Our lives would continue without the”stuff” that was burning. We would all live to love each other for many years to come. And that was all that mattered.
1.Who first found the house was on fire?
A.The author. B.The brother. C.The grandma. D.The parents.
2.What was the author thinking about when seeing everything destroyed?

B.He was worried about their life after the fire.
C.He was mad about losing his clothes and toys.
D.He felt lucky that they were saved by the firefighters.
3.What does the author mainly want to tell readers in paragraph 4?
A.That their life and family matter most.
B.That his family was lucky enough to escape.
C.That family and pets both meant a lot to him.
D.That the things burned in the fire didn’t matter at all.
4.Which of the following quotes is the author most likely to agree with?
A.“Keep calm and carry on.” —the Ministry of Information, UK
B.“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” —Friedrich Nietzsche
C.“You’ll be alive. That’s what matters. Enjoy what you have.” —Richelle Mead
D.“Home is where you are loved the most and act the worst.” —Marjorie Pay Hinckley
【答案】1.C 2.B 3.A 4.C
根据第一段“A fire had broken out there and awakened her. Hearing her, my brother jumped into action, running from room to room quickly waking everyone in the house.(那里发生了火灾,把她惊醒了。听到她的声音,我哥哥立刻行动起来,从一个房间跑到另一个房间,迅速吵醒了房子里的每个人。)”可知,作者的奶奶是第一个发现房子着火的。故选C。
2.推理判断题。根据第三段“I wondered what was going to happen to us because we had lost all our things.(我不知道我们会发生什么事,因为我们失去了所有的东西。)”
根据第四段“As I looked around, though, I realized something for the first time: The things that mattered were not things.(然而,当我环顾四周时,我第一次意识到:重要的事情并不是事物。)”和“I realized at that moment that we were all alive. Enjoy what you have.” ——Richelle Mead)”。故选C。
【答案】1.C 2.D 3.A 4.B
根据第一段的“When the studio didn’t want me for the film— it wanted somebody as well known as Paul”制片人不想要我,他想要当时比较出名的演员Paul,因此,可知作者当时还不是很有名。故选C。
根据第二段的“Both of us had the qualities and virtues that are typical of American actors: humorous, aggressive, and making fun of each other— but always with an underlying affection. Those were also at the core (核心)of our relationship off the screen”可知,作者与Paul之间有着相似的性格特征,这让他们的友谊天长地久。故选D。
根据“We shared the brief that if you’re fortunate enough to have success, you should put something back”,我们都有这个信仰:如果你有幸获得成功,你应该有所回馈。下文“he with his Newman’s Own food and his Hole in the Wall camps for kids who are seriously ill, and me with Sundance and the institute and the festival”是作者举的例子,因此“sharing that brought us together.”that指代前面提到的信仰。故选A。
根据最后一段“I last saw him a few months ago. He’d been in and out of the hospital. He and I both knew what the deal was,and we didn’t talk about it”可知Paul已经去世了,再结合前文“I first met Paul Newman in 1968”,可推断作者写文章是为了怀念这位朋友。
如小题1中的A项“Paul Newman wanted it.”属于“颠倒黑白”类干扰项,根据“When the studio didn’t want me for the film— it wanted somebody as well known as Paul”可知制片人不想要我,他想要当时比较出名的演员Paul,说明A项明显错误。

【答案】1.A 2.D 3.A 4.B
根据第一段中“A few seconds later, I realized I was looking at a large turtle (海龟). Afraid of it being crashed by cars, so I pulled over, ran across the road and dragged the turtle to safety.(几秒钟后,我意识到我看到的是一只大海龟。我怕海龟被车撞坏,就把车停在路边,跑过马路,把海龟拖到安全的地方)”可知,作者把车停在路边,跑过马路是为了把海龟拖到安全的地方。故选A。
根据第二段中“I had heard that the best way to pick up a turtle without hurting it was picking it by the tail in order not to get bitten. So I’d made that big mistake.(我曾听说,要想抓住乌龟而不伤着它,最好的办法就是抓住它的尾巴,以免被它咬伤。所以我犯了一个大错误)”可知,作者认为要抓住海龟且不会伤害它的最好办法是抓住它的尾巴,但他犯了一个很大的错误。由此可推知,作者因为抓海龟的尾巴而伤害了它,海龟被作者弄伤了。故选 D。
3.细节理解题。根据第四段中Sue博士的话“Turtles know where they want to go. So, just keep them going in the direction they want to go and you may have saved a turtle’s life,(海龟知道自己要去哪里。所以,只要让它们朝着它们想去的方向前进,你可能就救了一只海龟的命)”可知,海龟知道自己要去哪里,只要让海龟朝着自己想去的方向走就是拯救它的性命。由此可知,Sue博士建议帮助海龟最好的办法就是不干涉它。故选 A。
根据最后一段中“Once an injured turtle arrives at the center, there are medical facilities (设备) ready to go, including an X-ray machine. That’s when the team gets to work with healing injuries, and help their patient.(一旦受伤的海龟到达该中心,就会有医疗设施准备就绪,包括X光机。这是团队开始治疗伤口并帮助他们的病人的时候)”可知,在海龟保护中心,医疗设施齐全,医务团队要帮助的“病人”指的就是受伤的海龟。故选B。
