Teaching Procedures: Step 1　Warm - up(5 minutes) Ask students: "How did you feel on your first day of senior high school? Share your feelings with your partner." Guided questions: Would you like to share your own first day experiences at senior high school? What made you feel happy/excited/anxious/annoyed/frightened /awkward? Can you express yourself with the help of different adjectives? (I felt very excited,but also anxious on my first day of senior high school. It was the beginning of a new part of my life and everything seemed so new and interesting. On the other hand,I was worried that I would not be able to make friends and that the schoolwork would be too hard.) Step 2　Fast Reading (10 minutes) 1. Let students read the text quickly and answer 1) .What is the theme of the text? (The first impressions of the senior high school.) 2) .What's the main idea of each paragraph? Para.1; The new start of senior high school and Han Jing's anxious feelings. Para.2; Han Jing's feelings about her maths class. Para. 3: Han Jing's feelings about the chemistry class. Para.4: What Han Jing learnt from her first day at senior high school. 3).What thread and transition does the nuthor use in this text? (The different periods of Han Jing's first day at senior high school.) 2. Ask students to find out the time clues in the text (7:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 5:32 p.m., 10:29 p.m.). Step 3　Structure Analysis (15 minutes) Divide the text into parts according to the time clues. Part 1 (7:00 a.m.): Han Jing's anxiety before school. Part 2 (12:30 p.m. & 5:32 p.m.): Her experiences in maths and chemistry classes. Part 3 (10:29 p.m.): Her reflection on the day and increased confidence. Step 4　Group Discussion (8 minutes) Students discuss in groups: "How does Han Jing's feeling change throughout the day?" (From anxious to confident.)
