High school, for most teenagers, is a space where new adventures and challenges begin. I clearly remember my first day of high school. As I entered the school gate, I was greeted by a crowd of students. The hallways were filled with talking and laughter. It was a lot to handle, and I felt like a tiny fish in a vast ocean. I held my schedule tightly, trying to find the right classroom. My heart raced as I was scared of getting lost.
My first class was English, and as I walked in, I spotted familiar faces from my previous school. I breathed a sigh of relief as I took my seat, surrounded by friendly smiles. My English teacher, Mrs Johnson, introduced herself and made everyone feel comfortable. She explained what we would be studying during the semester and encouraged us to share our thoughts and ideas. The next class was mathematics, which happened to be my weakest subject. I felt a tight feeling in my stomach as I entered the classroom, but my maths teacher, Mr Smith, turned out to be very patient. He promised us that we would learn and improve together. His words of support made me feel more relaxed, and I began to believe that I could overcome my maths struggles.
During lunchtime, I sat with a group of students who quickly became my friends. We shared stories, and talked about our expectations for high school. It was during this time that I realised that high school wasn’t just about academic subjects; it was also about building friendships and making lasting memories.
The rest of the day flew by with a variety of classes, faces, and experiences. My first day of high school was filled with moments of anxiety, joy, and the promise of new beginnings.

A school in Shaanxi has found an innovative way to teach its students
“In 1840, with its ships and cannons (大炮), the British Empire breached (冲破) China’s ancient gates...” explained Cao Xinjie, as he tapped the classroom screen with his fingers. The 17-year-old from Qujiang No 1 High School in Shaanxi was acting as a “virtual museum guide” for an ideological and political lesson (思想政治课), taking his classmates on a journey through the history of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Through interactive VR technology, the struggles of the Chinese people for independence and liberation came alive before their eyes.
The students took a virtual tour of The Road of Rejuvenation exhibit at the National Museum of China. This exhibition explores several historical eras experienced by Chinese people, starting with the Opium War in 1840.
The students found this VR learning experience highly engaging and way more fun than regular textbooks. “Previously, abstract phrases like ‘The CPC is the backbone (中坚力量) of the Chinese revolution’ were difficult for us to relate to. However, immersing ourselves in the museum’s photos, artifacts and stories offered us clear insight (见解) into why only the CPC could save China,” Cao told Teens.
Jiang Jiaomei, the course teacher, believes that the key to a more targeted and appealing ideological and political course lies in immersive learning and engaging activities.
For instance, Jiang likened the CPC to the most powerful “start-up team” in Chinese history. Dividing the students into groups, she asked them to create a “business strategy” for the CPC’s founding, centering around its “entrepreneurial (创业的) background, goals and competitive advantages”.
Cao’s classmate, 17-year-old Li Jiatong, found the comparison quite novel. “The struggle of the CPC does mirror that of an entrepreneurial team. By framing it that way, we can remember the CPC’s origin, aspiration (志向) and mission more vividly,” she said.
“Immersive interactions can fuel (激发) students’ enthusiasm, and through these innovative activities, they can easily absorb the knowledge,” said Jiang. “In this way, they could build a stronger connection with the CPC and develop a greater sense of patriotism (爱国精神).”

You’re rushing to work and a man ahead of you falls down. Do you stop to help? In a study of by-standers, it was found that some people look away or keep on walking rather than stop and get involved.
“People tend to decide that no action is needed.” says Ervin Staub, a psychologist 心理学家 at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. “The first thoughts like “Why should I be the one to help?” often keep you from offering help.
Time and again, good and caring people fail to come to the aid of others. They know they should act and yet, for reasons they themselves don’t understand, people sometimes don’t respond. Why?
One thing we know is that the more ambiguous a situation is, the less likely people are to help. Let’s say you see vapours (水汽) coming out of a building. You ask yourself, “ls it steam or smoke?” If you are not sure, you look to other people for a clue about how to react. If you see other people doing nothing, you think, “Of course, that’s just steam.” You don’t want it to be smoke, because then you would have to do something about it.
Another one is known as “the bystander effect“. This says that the more people there are observing an emergency, the less responsible each one of them personally feels. For example, if you are the only person in the world who can act to save someone in a dangerous situation, you are more likely to act. However, if you are one of 100,000 people who could save the situation, you would be happier if one of the other 99,999 people did it!
“If you notice trouble, force yourself to stop and judge the situation instead of walking on,” says Ervin Staub. Then try to involve other people, you don’t have to take on all the responsibility of being helpful. According to Staub, it is sometimes just a matter of turning to the person next to you and saying, “‘It looks like we should do something.“ Once you take action, most people will take their cues (提示) from you and also help.
32.What may cause some people’s failure to help according to the study?
A.They don’t know how to help.
B.They think it’s none of their business.
C.They fear their help may be rejected.
D.They expect others to act.
33.What does the underlined word “ambiguous’ in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Difficult. B.Dangerous. C.Unclear. D.Unpleasant.
34.What does “the bystander effect” show?
A.The majority of people have the same idea.
B.More people, less responsibility
C.Many hands make light work.
D.People usually think twice before they act.
35.What can be the best title for the text?
A.Stick to Your Decision
B.Don’t Just Stand There
C.It’s the Thought That Counts
D.To Help or Not, it’s a Question

School days mean homework, studying, exams, and social interactions — not to mention getting up early every morning. It’s understandable if you don’t always feel your happiest going to school during the week. 36 The following tips can help you feel happier on school days.
Focus on the good things about school. 37 Think about the bigger picture and how your education will have a positive impact on your life in the long run. If you’re having a bad day, tell yourself that you only have to be in school for a relatively short period of your life. After that, the sky is the limit!
38 Making other people smile can improve your own happiness. Give another student some positive encouragement. Or, thank a teacher for a fun activity or an interesting lesson. If you see someone else that looks like they might be feeling down, tell them you like their hair style or praise the work they have done.
Try not to take negativity from others too hard. 39 Try to remember that nobody is perfect and think about what might be going on in their lives that makes them act negatively towards you. Try your best to sweep away a dirty look or a bad comment and move on with your day not getting angry and upset.
Reward yourself. Once you get that big A on your exam or work, don’t forget to go out and celebrate! It’s always great to reward yourself when you do something good especially when it will benefit your future in so many ways! Always believe that you can and you will go a long way! No one can change your future other than you. 40
A.Smile more often.
B.Do something nice for someone.
C.But it’s also something you can totally improve!
D.If someone isn’t nice to you at school, it’s probably not your fault.
E.A little positive thinking can go a long way towards improving your mood.
F.Whether in school or at home, you may look for ways to make learning more enjoyable.
G.Do the best of what you have and try your hardest, also try to have some fun along the way.

Leonardo da Vinci, 56 painter, sculptor (雕塑家), architect and inventor, is probably the most talented person who ever lived. His most famous painting, Mona Lisa, 57 sits in the Louvre Museum, is one of the greatest art attractions in the world.
Mona Lisa is famous for the mysterious smile 58 the woman’s face. What is the reason for her smile? Some believe that Mona Lisa is actually a portrait (肖像) of Da Vinci 59 (he)! This is because some of her 60 (face) features are similar to those in one of Da Vinci’s self-portraits. They might suggest that the smile is because Da Vinci knows the 61 (true) — what we see from the painting is a woman, while what he painted was a man. Others might suggest she smiles because she has lost her 62 (tooth)! We will never know for sure, but it is fun to guess!
Mona Lisa didn’t always sit behind the glass in the Louvre. In 1911 the painting 63 (steal). Many were called in for questioning, 64 (include) the now famous Spanish artist Pablo Picasso. 65 (lucky), about two years after the theft, it was discovered.
Probably, most of you have had this feeling before — you had been eager for something for a long time, yet were frightened of getting it. It was exactly my state of mind before the first day at college. I had been working hard to pass a variety of necessary tests in senior high school and have my application for the undergraduate program in management approved. And when the moment had come for me to visit the college for the first day of the study, I couldn’t fall asleep all night because of being anxious about how to leave a good first impression in front of the whole new world I was about to enter. However, I realized that positive attitude and readiness to accept support from others helped a lot in a new environment.
It was Monday morning. Being too excited to sleep the night before, I came to the college half an hour earlier for the first lecture. With butterflies in my stomach, I was walking slowly through the hallway. About 15 minutes after I came, the hallway started to be full of students. Professors who walked on their business probably didn’t pay attention to me. I knew which hall to go to and had already checked that it was open. However, I was hesitant to enter the hall and sit there alone. People were moving around me as if they were not seeing me. I felt disappointed with the fact that I had nobody to talk to in this new and seemingly unfriendly place.
Suddenly, I caught sight of a young man with a confident smile approaching me. He introduced himself as Andrew Mathews and asked whether I was lost and whether he could help me with anything. I really looked forward to someone’s company, but then I was too nervous for a friendly chat. As a result, instead of welcoming the opportunity to make the first acquaintance (相识), I told the man to mind his business and leave me alone since I was an adult capable of finding my class without anybody’s assistance.
Luckily, the man didn’t seem to be angry.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Professor Mathews turned out to be an impressive speaker and the lecture went really well.

根据第二段“The first thoughts like ‘Why should I be the one to help?’ often keep you from offering help. (像 “为什么该我帮忙?” 这样的最初想法常常阻止你提供帮助)”可知,人们倾向于认为帮助他人是别人的责任,自己不必行动,即“期待他人行动”。故选D项。
33.词义猜测题。根据第四段“Let’s say you see vapours (水汽) coming out of a building. You ask yourself, ‘Is it steam or smoke?’ If you are not sure, you look to other people for a clue about how to react. (假设你看到一栋建筑冒出水汽。你问自己,“这是蒸汽还是烟雾?” 如果你不确定,你会向其他人寻求反应的线索)”可知,当情况不明确时,人们会犹豫是否帮忙,由此可推测ambiguous与unclear意思类似,为“不明确的”。故选C项。
34.细节理解题。根据第五段“This says that the more people there are observing an emergency, the less responsible each one of them personally feels. (这意味着观察到紧急情况的人越多,个人感受到的责任就越小)”可知,“旁观者效应”表明人越多,个人责任感越弱。故选B项。
35.主旨大意题。全文围绕“旁观者不帮助他人的现象”展开,最后一段引用Ervin Staub的建议“If you notice trouble, force yourself to stop and judge the situation instead of walking on. (如果你注意到麻烦,强迫自己停下来判断情况,而不是继续走)”,核心是倡导人们不要袖手旁观,采取行动。故选B项。

People are now more careful to protect this precious work of art.
56. a 57.which 58.on 59.himself 60.facial
61.truth 62.teeth 63.was stolen 64.including 65.Luckily
故填a。
故填which。
故填on。
故填was stolen。
故填including。
