As a young girl, I loved sports, and I used to watch the Olympics with my dad, dreaming of being one of those athletes. I didn’t know then that my life would lead me to cycling and give me the opportunity to achieve that dream. While many people might not be deeply familiar with cycling, everyone understands the significance of the Olympics. Just being chosen for this event pushed my career to a new level.
I was most excited that my family and friends could come to watch me participate and share the experience with me, for the Olympics were taking place in Paris this time. I was a much more experienced rider than I had been in Rio and Tokyo, which helped me stay calm and better understand the race scenarios. I hadn’t seen the course yet, but the profile suggested a classic style race that would be competitive and quite technical—all aspects I enjoyed. Being able to compete in such an environment, especially with the support of my loved ones, added a significant layer of excitement and motivation.
Staying at the Olympic Village was also an amazing experience. The large food courts were shared by all, meaning I could be having breakfast with someone I admired and watched on TV. We were able to stay and relax in the village after our competition, fully feeling the village energy. It was like a small city for athletes, where we could observe how others prepared for their events and how they handled the post-competition emotions. Although the rules had changed, and we then had to leave the accommodation soon after our events, the village kept exciting and encouraging us.
At the Olympics, we represented our country or region, and riders who were our rivals finally became our teammates for the event. The team atmosphere and mutual understanding between each other were key, and I was lucky to be part of a supportive group of girls who shared the same goal.
4. What is the author’s main purpose in writing paragraph 1?
A. To show the Olympic events to readers.
B. To show the role of cycling in the Olympics.
C. To show the effect of the Olympics on her life.
D. To show the love of her family for the Olympics.
5. What was the most exciting part of the Paris Olympics for the author?
A. Being experienced in riding. B. Having her loved ones’ company.
C. Having more chances to be a winner. D. Being able to see the course in advance.
6. What did the author think of the Olympic Village?
A. Awkward. B. Changeable.
C. Classic. D. Inspiring.
7. What does the underlined word “rivals” mean in the last paragraph?
A. Friends. B. Members. C. Competitors. D. Audiences.
【答案】4. C 5. B 6. D 7. C

【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了作者从小时候对体育的热爱到最终成为奥运会自行车运动员的过程,以及她在巴黎奥运会期间的感受和体验。
【4题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段中“As a young girl, I loved sports, and I used to watch the Olympics with my dad, dreaming of being one of those athletes. I didn’t know then that my life would lead me to cycling and give me the opportunity to achieve that dream.(作为一个小女孩,我喜欢运动,我曾经和我爸爸一起看奥运会,梦想成为那些运动员中的一员。我当时并不知道,我的人生会引导我去骑自行车,并给我实现这个梦想的机会)”及“Just being chosen for this event pushed my career to a new level.(仅仅是被选中参加这个活动就把我的职业生涯推向了一个新的高度)”可知,作者当时并不知道自己的人生会走向自行车运动,并给她实现梦想的机会,也就是奥运会对她的人生产生了影响。故选C。
【5题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中“I was most excited that my family and friends could come to watch me participate and share the experience with me, for the Olympics were taking place in Paris this time.(最让我兴奋的是,我的家人和朋友可以来观看我的比赛,并与我分享经验,因为这次奥运会是在巴黎举行的)”可知,作者最兴奋的是她的家人和朋友可以来观看她参赛,并与她分享这一经历。故选B。
【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中“Staying at the Olympic Village was also an amazing experience.(住在奥运村也是一次奇妙的经历)”及“Although the rules had changed, and we then had to leave the accommodation soon after our events, the village kept exciting and encouraging us.(虽然规则变了,我们不得不在活动结束后不久离开住处,但村子里的人一直让我们兴奋,鼓励我们)”可知,作者认为住在奥运村是一次令人惊叹的经历,比赛后不久离开后,奥运村仍然让他们感到兴奋并鼓励着他们。故选D。
【7题详解】
词义猜测题。根据最后一段划线词后文“finally became our teammates for the event(终于成为了我们的队友)”及前文“At the Olympics, we represented our country or region, and riders(在奥运会上,我们代表我们的国家或地区,骑手)”可知,这些骑手原本是竞争对手,因此,“rivals”的意思是“Competitors(竞争对手)”。故选C。

Properly drinking coffee or tea might help lower the risk of stroke (中风) and dementia (痴呆), according to a study of healthy people aged 50-74. This study was I published on November 16 in the open-access journal PLOS Medicine.
Strokes are serious health events that cause 10% of deaths worldwide. Dementia is a term for symptoms(症状) that show a fall in brain function and is a major health issue globally, with high economic and social costs. Post-stroke dementia is when dementia symptoms appear after a stroke.
Yuan Zhang and his colleagues from Tianjin Medical University in China studied 365,682participants(参与者) from the UK Biobank. These participants were chosen between 2006and 2010 and were followed until 2020. At the beginning of the study, participants reported how much coffee and tea they drank. During the study, 5,079 participants developed dementia and 10.053 had at least one stroke.
The study found that people who drank 2-3 cups of coffee or 3-5 cups of tea per day, or a combination of 4-6 cups of coffee and tea, had the lowest rates of stroke or dementia. Those who drank 2-3 cups of coffee and 2-3 cups of tea daily had a 32% lower risk of stroke and a 28% lower risk of dementia compared to those who drank neither coffee nor tea. Drinking coffee alone or with tea was also linked to a lower risk of dementia after a stroke.
The UK Biobank participants were relatively healthy compared to the general population, which might limit how well these results apply to everyone. Also, not many people in the study developed dementia or had a stroke, making it hard to apply these findings to larger groups. Lastly, while coffee and tea might help protect against stroke and dementia, the study cannot prove that drinking them causes these benefits. The authors said, “Our findings suggest that properly drinking coffee and tea, separately or together, is associated with a lower risk of stroke and dementia.”
8. What is the result of the study?
A. Stroke and dementia have led to many deaths.
B. Stroke and dementia result from coffee and tea drinking.
C. Properly drinking coffee and tea may lower the risk of stroke and dementia.
D. Drinking coffee and tea can be helpful in dealing with post-stroke dementia.
9. How did Yuan Zhang and his colleagues conduct the study?
A. By turning to the government for help.
B. By choosing volunteers all over China.
C. By picking out suitable participants from the UK.
D. By collecting participants from the UK Biobank.
10. What can we learn about the study from the last paragraph?
A. The help from the UK Biobank is limited.
B. The results of the study are widely accepted.
C. Most of the samples from the UK Biobank have severe diseases.
D. Samples from the UK Biobank are effective and enough for the study.
11. From which is the text probably taken?
A. A travel brochure. B. A health magazine.
C. A biology textbook. D. A fashion website.
【答案】8. C 9. D 10. A 11. B

It’s reported that the number of monarch butterflies (帝王斑蝶) or monarchs spending the winter in the western United States has dropped to its second-lowest mark in nearly 30 years.
Monarch butterflies are known for their clear orange-and-black markings, living across North America. Monarchs in the eastern United States spend the winter in Mexico. Monarchs in the west of the Rocky Mountains usually spend the winter along the California coast.
The Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation has been counting western overwinter populations in the western United States for the last 28 years. The highest number recorded was 1.2 million in 1997. It counted just 9,119 monarchs in 2024, a decrease of 96 percent from 233,394 in 2023. The total was the second lowest since the survey began in 1997. The record-low count was 1,901 monarchs in 2020. The survey noted that a place in Santa Barbara that saw 33,200 monarchs last winter had only 198 this year.
It remains unknown what caused such a change in the western population in just one year. Biologist Emma Pelton said, “Monarchs suffer when the temperature rises to 37.7℃ and any temperatures above 42.2℃ will kill them. The western states’ temperatures in many areas well past 37.7℃, some reportedly reaching a record 51.1℃.” Another threat is the supply of milkweed, a plant monarchs feed on. Milkweed has been disappearing in recent years because of dry weather, wildfires, urban development, and pesticides (杀虫剂) on the remaining plants.
According to Pelton, it was too early to tell what long-term effect the great change might have on the overall western monarchs population. “This is bad news,” Pelton said of the 2024 population drop. “But we have seen incredible recovery. This doesn’t mean we’re not going to have western monarchs.” After a low point of 1,901 monarchs in 2020, the population recovered to 247,246 monarchs the following year, an increase of nearly 13,000 percent. The year after that the survey recorded 335,479 monarchs.
The US plans to list monarchs as threatened to call for conservation.
12. What is the author’s purpose in writing paragraph 2?
A. To lead in the topic of the text. B. To offer background information.
C To discuss the cause of the problem. D. To offer the evidence for the report.
13. What can we know from paragraph 3 about western overwinter monarchs?
A. Their populations were the second lowest in 2020.
B. They preferred to spend winter in Santa Barbara in 2023.
C They were least seen in the western United States in 1997.
D. Their populations experienced a rapid decrease in 2024.
14. Which word can best describe the western monarchs’ future?
A. Unclear. B. Unchangeable. C. Controllable. D. Hopeless.
15. What can be the best title for the text?
A Climate Change: Threats to Monarchs
B. Monarch Butterflies: a Story of Recovery
C. Western Monarchs Have Just Hit Near-Record Low
D. Conservation Efforts in Saving Monarch Butterflies
【答案】12. B 13. D 14. A 15. C

【12题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段“Monarch butterflies are known for their clear orange-and-black markings, living across North America. Monarchs in the eastern United States spend the winter in Mexico. Monarchs in the west of the Rocky Mountains usually spend the winter along the California coast.(帝王斑蝶以其清晰的橙色和黑色斑纹而闻名,生活在北美各地。美国东部的帝王斑蝶在墨西哥过冬。落基山脉西部的帝王斑蝶通常在加利福尼亚海岸过冬。)”可知,作者写第二段的目的是提供背景资料。故选B。
【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“It counted just 9,119 monarchs in 2024, a decrease of 96 percent from 233,394 in 2023.(据统计,2024年只有9119只帝王斑蝶,比2023年的233394只减少了96%。)”可知,从第三段我们可以知道关于西部越冬帝王斑蝶的数量在2024年急剧减少。故选D。
【14题详解】
推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“According to Pelton, it was too early to tell what long-term effect the great change might have on the overall western monarchs population.(根据Pelton的说法,现在判断这种巨大变化对整个西部帝王斑蝶种群的长期影响还为时过早。)”可知,西部帝王斑蝶的未来是不清楚的,故选A。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“It’s reported that the number of monarch butterflies (帝王斑蝶) or monarchs spending the winter in the western United States has dropped to its second-lowest mark in nearly 30 years.(据报道,在美国西部过冬的帝王斑蝶的数量已经下降到近30年来的第二低水平。)”可知,本文主要讲的是美国西部帝王斑蝶数量接近历史最低点的情况,因此最好的标题是C选项“Western Monarchs Have Just Hit Near-Record Low(西部帝王斑蝶刚刚创下历史新低)”。故选C。

Accept differences
If you fly to the other side of the world, even a neighboring country or city, things aren’t going to be the same. Diversity(差异性) is what exactly makes travel rewarding and enjoyable. ___16___. You probably won’t, so just set off into this adventure and realize there are going to be differences.

___19___
One great thing about traveling is that there’s usually someone to talk to. Whether you’re stuck on a moving bus or relaxing in a hotel common room, try interacting with people on the same journey. 【17题详解】
根据本段小标题“Stop comparing”可知,本段主要建议不要比较。根据前文的““They don’t even have the food I want here!” This stresses only the negative(消极的) aspects of a new destination.(“他们甚至没有我想要的食物!”这只强调了新目的地的负面方面。)”并结合空后的“how are you going to learn and grow from this journey?(你将如何从这段旅程中学习和成长?)”可知,空处应是假设挑剔新目的地的消极方面的情况,E项“如果你在整个旅程中挑选出你认为不满意的东西”符合题意。故选E。

【20题详解】
前文“Experienced ones help educate each other with tips on things to do, and share other interesting stories they have picked up.(有经验的人会帮助教育对方做事情的小窍门,并分享他们学到的其他有趣的故事。)”

It was early Tuesday morning when I was driving my usual bus route in Wheeling, Illinois. The temperature had dropped below zero, and the streets were covered in snow and ice. As I rounded a corner, I found a teenager walking aimlessly outside, just dressed in a light coat. I immediately pulled over, got out of the bus, and rushed to check on him. He was shivering(颤抖)uncontrollably, his lips turning blue, making it clear that he was in immediate danger. I realized that I needed to act fast to keep him safe.
I wrapped my coat around the teenager, brought him onto the bus to warm up, and called the police right away. While waiting for the police to arrive, I tried to communicate with him, but he didn’t respond. I later learned that he was named Joseph, a 13-year-old boy with a mental disability who had wandered away from home. His mother had noticed the front door unlocked and Joseph’s bedroom door wide open. She had called out his name loudly and rushed outside to search for him, but by then, he had already gone quite far. “It was five degrees below zero,” she later said. “He was walking through snow and ice. His feet could have frozen, and he didn’t know how to cross the street.”
When the police arrived, they struggled to identify Joseph due to his communication difficulties. Fortunately, a program called Return Home Safe provided immediate help. Developed by Paul, the program maintained a database of identifying information for special needs and deaf residents. Thanks to the program, the police helped reunite Joseph with his family. Finally, we all breathed a sigh of relief.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 Curious about what inspired Paul to create the program, I went to ask him. Paul told me that it was his daughter, who was born deaf, that motivated him. One day, his daughter got lost in a mall. The chaos and fear during the search left a deep mark on him. He realized that special-needs individuals faced unique risks. So, he dedicated himself to developing the Return Home Safe program, aiming to provide a safety net for them. His story was a powerful reminder of the impact one person’s initiative could have.
Moved by the story of Paul and his daughter, I decided to join the program. I signed up as a volunteer, eager to contribute. I started by helping update the database, ensuring the information was accurate and up-to-date. I also participated in awareness campaigns, spreading the word about the program. I knew that every small effort counted. Through my work, I hoped to prevent more families from experiencing the heart-wrenching fear that Paul and his family once went through.

D. Audiences.

B Stroke and dementia result from coffee and tea drinking.
C. Properly drinking coffee and tea may lower the risk of stroke and dementia.
