教学过程
A. Lead - in (5 minutes)
Show some pictures of famous inventions, such as the light bulb, the telephone, and the computer, on the PPT. Ask students: "Do you know who invented these things? What do you think are the most important qualities for an inventor?" Let students think and share their ideas briefly in pairs.
Then introduce today's topic - listening to a podcast about young inventors, which will help them know more about inventions and the people behind them.
B. Pre - listening (10 minutes)
New Words Teaching
Present the new words and phrases related to inventions and inventors on the PPT one by one. For example, when teaching "disability", show pictures of people with different disabilities and explain the word. Use simple sentences like "A person with a disability may need special help." to help students understand.
For words like "inventive", explain its meaning as "good at creating new things or having new ideas", and give examples such as "Thomas Edison was an inventive inventor."
After presenting all the words, have a quick review. Read the words aloud and ask students to repeat, then randomly point to a word and ask students to say its meaning.
Prediction
Show the title of the podcast "Young Inventors" and some pictures related to it (such as a young boy holding a new - designed device). Ask students to predict what they might hear in the podcast. Guide them to think about aspects like who the young inventors are, what their inventions are, and why they made these inventions. Let students share their predictions in groups of four, and then invite some groups to report their ideas to the whole class.
C. While - listening (15 minutes)
First Listening
Play the podcast for the first time. Ask students to listen carefully and get a general idea of the content. After listening, ask them some general questions, such as "How many young inventors are mentioned in the podcast?" and "What is the common feature of these inventors?" Let students answer briefly.
Second Listening
Play the podcast again. This time, ask students to take notes while listening. Provide them with a form on the PPT with columns like "Name of the Inventor", "Invention", "Reason for the Invention", and "Qualities of the Inventor". Let them fill in the form as they listen.
After listening, ask students to work in pairs to check and discuss their notes. Then invite several pairs to share their filled - in forms with the class. The teacher can correct and supplement on the blackboard if there are any mistakes or omissions.
Third Listening
Play the podcast for the third time. This time, ask students to focus on some details, such as specific problems that the inventions aimed to solve or some interesting stories during the invention process. After listening, have a small group discussion. Pose questions like "What difficulties do you think these young inventors might have faced?" and "Which invention do you think is the most useful and why?" Each group selects a representative to share their discussion results with the class.
D. Post - listening (10 minutes)
Speaking Activity 1: Group Discussion
Divide students into groups of four or five. Pose the following discussion topics:
What qualities do you think are essential for inventors? Why do you think so?
How have inventions changed our daily lives? Can you give some examples?
Ask each group to have a discussion. Encourage students to use the information they got from the podcast and their own experiences to support their views. Walk around the classroom to monitor the discussions and offer help if necessary.
Speaking Activity 2: Group Report
After the group discussion, each group selects a representative to report their group's discussion results to the whole class. The representative should speak clearly and organize their words well. After each group's report, other groups can ask questions or make comments. The teacher can also ask some follow - up questions to further expand the discussion, such as "If you were an inventor, what kind of invention would you like to make and why?"
E. Summary and Homework (5 minutes)
Summary
Summarize today's key points on the blackboard, including new words, listening skills (such as predicting, note - taking), and speaking skills (expressing opinions). Review the main content of the podcast about young inventors and the qualities of inventors discussed in class.
Emphasize the importance of inventions and the spirit of innovation.
Homework
Ask students to write a short passage about an inventor they admire. They should include information about the inventor's name, main inventions, and the reasons why they admire this inventor. The passage should be at least 80 words.
Encourage students to search for more information about interesting inventions on the Internet and share it with the class in the next lesson.
教学反思
In the teaching process, most students showed great interest in the topic of inventions, which actively participated in class discussions and group activities. However, a few students were still a bit shy and less involved. In future teaching, more individual encouragement and guidance should be given to these students to help them build confidence in speaking English.
Regarding the listening part, some students had difficulty in catching all the key information in one go, especially when there were complex sentence structures. In the future, more listening practice with different levels of difficulty can be provided, and some specific listening strategies, such as how to quickly identify the subject and predicate in a sentence while listening, can be taught.
During the speaking activities, students' language expressions were somewhat limited. Although they could express their basic ideas, the use of sentence patterns and vocabulary was not rich enough. To solve this problem, more model sentences and relevant vocabulary expansion exercises can be arranged in class to help students enrich their language stores and improve their speaking abilities.
