Unit 4 Role Models-Topic Talk Unit 4 focuses on the theme of "Role Models". In Topic Talk, students will be introduced to the concept of role models and start to think about what qualities make a person a good role model. They will discuss different types of role models, such as athletes, scientists, and artists, through various materials like pictures, short videos, and texts. This topic not only helps students expand their vocabulary related to personal qualities and occupations but also encourages them to reflect on their own values and aspirations. 教学目标 A. Knowledge Objectives Students will be able to master key vocabulary related to role models, such as "role model", "athlete", "scientist", "artist", "brave", "intelligent", "creative", etc. Learn and use common expressions for describing personal qualities, like "be famous for", "make great contributions to", "be admired by". Understand the basic sentence structures for discussing role models, e.g., "My role model is... because he/she...". B. Ability Objectives Develop students' listening skills by listening to dialogues or short passages about role models and being able to extract key information. Improve students' speaking skills through group discussions and individual presentations about their favorite role models. Enhance students' reading ability by reading texts about different role models and summarizing the main ideas. Cultivate students' writing skills by writing a short introduction to their ideal role models. C. Emotional Objectives Inspire students to respect and learn from role models, and foster positive values and attitudes. Encourage students to discover their own potential and strive to become role models for others in the future. 教学重难点 A. Teaching Key Points Vocabulary acquisition and correct usage related to role models and personal qualities. Mastery of sentence patterns for describing and discussing role models. Guiding students to express their opinions clearly and fluently in English during discussions. B. Teaching Difficult Points Helping students think deeply about the qualities of role models and relate them to their own lives. Training students to use English flexibly and accurately to express complex ideas about role models, especially in speaking and writing. A. Key Vocabulary Occupations: athlete, scientist, artist, doctor, teacher, engineer, writer Personal Qualities: brave, intelligent, creative, hard - working, kind - hearted, determined, honest, patient B. Useful Expressions be famous for 因…… 而著名 make great contributions to 为…… 做出巨大贡献 be admired by 被…… 钦佩 set a good example for 为…… 树立好榜样 look up to 尊敬,敬仰 C. Key Sentence Patterns My role model is... because he/she... 我的榜样是…… 因为他 / 她…… He/She is famous for... 他 / 她因…… 而著名 …… makes great contributions to... …… 为…… 做出巨大贡献 Many people look up to him/her because of... 许多人因为…… 而尊敬他 / 她 教学过程 A. Warming - up (5 minutes) Greet the students as usual. Show some pictures of well - known figures like Yao Ming, Yuan Longping, and Leonardo da Vinci on the PPT. Ask students: "Do you know these people? What do they do?" Encourage students to answer in English. This activity aims to arouse students' interest and lead in the topic of role models. B. Presentation (12 minutes) New Vocabulary Teaching Present the new words about occupations and personal qualities on the PPT one by one. For each word, show relevant pictures or examples to help students understand. For example, when teaching "athlete", show pictures of famous athletes like Usain Bolt and Serena Williams. Explain the pronunciation and spelling of each word, and let students read after the teacher several times. Drill: Divide students into pairs. One student says an occupation or a personal quality word, and the other student gives an example. For example, if one says "scientist", the other can say "Yuan Longping". Introduction of Key Expressions and Sentence Patterns Write the useful expressions and key sentence patterns on the blackboard. Explain their meanings and usages with examples. For instance, for "be famous for", give examples like "Yao Ming is famous for his excellent basketball skills." Let students practice making sentences with these expressions and patterns in pairs. Walk around the classroom to monitor and offer help if necessary. C. Listening (8 minutes) Tell students they are going to listen to a short dialogue between two students about their role models. Before playing the recording, ask them to look at the following questions on the PPT: Who are the two students' role models? Why do they admire their role models? Play the recording for the first time. Students listen carefully and try to get a general idea. Play the recording again. This time, students listen and take notes to answer the questions. Check the answers with the whole class. Play the recording one more time if necessary for students to clarify any misunderstandings. D. Group Discussion (10 minutes) Divide students into groups of four. Give each group a topic: "If you could choose a role model from history, who would you choose and why?" In the groups, students discuss their choices. Encourage them to use the vocabulary, expressions, and sentence patterns they have just learned. Each group selects a representative to take notes. Walk around the classroom, join some groups' discussions, and offer guidance and encouragement. Make sure students are on the right track and using English as much as possible. E. Class Report (8 minutes) Invite each group's representative to come to the front of the class and report their group's discussion results. The representative should speak clearly and use complete sentences. While the representative is reporting, other students listen carefully and can ask questions if they have any doubts. After each report, give positive feedback and comments to the group, focusing on their good use of language and creative ideas. F. Summary and Homework Assignment (2 minutes) Summary Summarize the key points of this class, including the new vocabulary, expressions, and sentence patterns about role models. Review the important content of the listening and group discussion. Homework Assignment Ask students to write a short passage of about 80 - 100 words to introduce their favorite role model. They should include information such as who the role model is, what he/she does, and why they admire this person. Tell students to prepare for the next class, where they will share their written work with their classmates. 教学反思 After this class, I need to reflect on several aspects. Firstly, in terms of vocabulary teaching, although using pictures and examples helped students understand the words, some students might still have problems with pronunciation and spelling. Maybe more individual pronunciation correction and spelling drills are needed. Secondly, during the listening part, some students had difficulty catching the key information. This indicates that more listening practice with different accents and speeds should be provided in the future. Thirdly, in the group discussion and class report, most students actively participated, but a few students were a bit shy and less involved. I should think of more ways to encourage these students to express themselves, such as giving more praise and creating a more relaxed atmosphere. Overall, this class laid a foundation for students to further explore the topic of role models, but there are still areas that need improvement to better meet students' learning needs. 2 / 37 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
