A When I was 20, I moved to Paris. The first room I rented was on Rue de Charonne. During my first year in Paris, the year during which I turned 21, I got a few different jobs one after another, mostly working as a waitress. It was pretty hard to survive in the expensive huge city. In high school, I studied Latin and Spanish, not French, but I had been reading books in French and sometimes watched French TV plays, while I still lived with my parents. After I graduated at 18, I was busy with other projects. Only about a year later did the old dream catch up with me: I finally wanted to learn how to speak French, not just understand it passively (被动地). And I also wanted to go on an adventure! My decision was to go to West Africa. I did not have a lot of money, so I just put out my thumb and started hitchhiking south-west through Europe. In southern Spain, I took the boat to Morocco and over the following six months I was to visit another ten different West African countries. It was an amazing journey, and a learning experience on many levels. But much to my satisfaction, my French got much better! Years later when I told a Parisian friend about that trip, she said in surprise, “You went to West Africa to learn French? But they have such a different accent!” Honestly, when you are just starting to string together (把……联成句子) the most basic sentences, it does not matter much if you are surrounded by an accent that is considered non-standard. When you are still learning some of the most basic words, such as “table” and “chair”, a little bit of a different pronunciation will hardly stop your progress. 1. How many countries did the author visit in Africa? A. 10. B. 11. C. 12. D. 13. 2. What can we infer from the passage? A. The author could speak French while working as a waitress. B. The author enjoyed French more than Latin and Spanish. C. Settling down in Paris is one of the author’s dreams. D. The author is a person who prefers travelling to anything else. 3. What is the Parisian friend’s opinion as to learning French? A. Non-standard accent has nothing to do with it. B. The basic words have a great influence on it. C. West Africa is not a suitable place to learn French. D. Everyone should speak standard French. B There are many ways to travel within a city. We can walk, cycle, or take a bus. But no matter which way we choose, we have to stick to the route the city planners laid down for us. Parkour enthusiasts (跑酷爱好者), however, see the city in a completely different way. To them, there are no fixed routes. There are no walls and no stairs—since they jump, climb, roll and crawl to move across, through, over and under anything that they find in their path. The city is their playground. The International Gymnastics Federation has noticed that this activity is drawing more and more people to it—there are about 100,000 people taking part in parkour today in the UK alone, according to The Guardian—and how it is helpful for people to be much stronger: It trains coordination and balance. So the organization is thinking about recognizing parkour as a new sport and adding it to the Olympics. But parkour enthusiasts themselves don’t seem to be happy with the idea. They see parkour as a lifestyle. In their view, it’s a competition against the conditions rather than just a sport. Indeed, many do parkour just to “escape the daily routine and experience the city in different ways”, wrote Oli Mould on The Conversation. They see parkour as a way to express themselves through relaxing moves and creative routes while freeing themselves from the pressure. It’s great that the International Gymnastics Federation wants to develop a new sport and stay close to a new cultural form. But it would be greater if they knew that not everything in life is a competition. 4. What is the author’s view on parkour? A. It can be recognized as a competition. B. It calls on people to work as a team. C. It’s worth adding to the sporting events. D. It is a way of life rather than a competition. 5. Why does the International Gymnastics Federation want to add parkour to the Olympics? A. Because it draws their attention. B. Because it helps people to build up their body. C. Because that’s what parkour enthusiasts argue for. D. Because they think it needs rules and instructions. 6. How do parkour enthusiasts do parkour? A. They move as they wish. B. They plan the routes of the city. C. They run faster than others. D. They stick to certain routes. 7. What is the best title for the passage? A. A new sports competition. B. Parkour enthusiasts. C. Training in a different way. D. Making the city their own. C I read somewhere that we spend a full third of our lives waiting. But where are we doing all of this waiting, and what does it mean to an impatient society like ours? To understand the issue, let’s take a look at three types of “waits”. The very purest form of waiting is the Watched-Pot Wait. It is without doubt the most annoying of all. Take filling up the kitchen sink (洗碗池) as an example. There is absolutely nothing you can do while this is going on but keep both eyes fixed on the sink until it’s full. During these waits, the brain slips away from the body and wanders about until the water runs over the edge of the counter and onto your socks. This kind of wait makes the waiter helpless and mindless. A cousin to the Watched-Pot Wait is the Forced Wait. This one requires a bit of discipline. Properly preparing packaged noodle soup requires a Forced Wait. Directions are very specific. “Bring three cups of water to boil, add mix, simmer three minutes, remove from heat, let stand five minutes.” I have my doubts that anyone has actually followed the procedures strictly. After all, Forced Waiting requires patience. Perhaps the most powerful type of waiting is the Lucky-Break Wait. This type of wait is unusual in that it is for the most part voluntary. Unlike the Forced Wait, which is also voluntary, waiting for your lucky break does not necessarily mean that it will happen. Turning one’s life into a waiting game requires faith and hope, and is strictly for the optimists among us. On the surface it seems as ridiculous as following the directions on soup mixes, but the Lucky-Break Wait well serves those who are willing to do it. As long as one doesn’t come to rely on it, wishing for a few good things to happen never hurts anybody. We certainly do spend a good deal of our time waiting. The next time you’re standing at the sink waiting for it to fill while cooking noodle soup that you’ll have to eat until a large bag of cash falls out of the sky, don’t be desperate. You’re probably just as busy as the next guy. 8. While doing a Watched-Pot Wait, we tend to ________. A. keep ourselves busy B. get absent-minded C. grow anxious D. stay focused 9. What does the author advise us to do the next time we are waiting? A. Take it seriously. B. Don’t rely on others. C. Do something else. D. Don’t lose heart. 10. What can we learn about the Lucky-Break Wait? A. It is less voluntary than the Forced Wait. B. It doesn’t always bring the desired result. C. It is more fruitful than the Forced Wait. D. It doesn’t give people faith and hope. 11. What is the difference between the Forced Wait and the Watched-Pot Wait? A. The Forced Wait requires some self-control. B. The Forced Wait makes people passive. C. The Watched-Pot Wait needs directions. D. The Watched-Pot Wait engages body and brain. 12. The author supports his view by ________. A. exploring various causes of “waits” B. describing detailed processes of “waits” C. analyzing different categories of “waits” D. revealing frustrating consequences of “waits” 第二节(共5小题:每小题3分,满分15分) We all have things that we want to achieve in our lives-getting into the better shape building a successful business, raising a wonderful family, and so on.___13___, At least, this is how I approached my life goals until recently. What I’m starting to realize, however, is that when it comes to actually getting things done and making progress in the areas that are important to you, there is a much better way to do things. It all comes down to the difference between goals and systems.___14___ Your system is the writing schedule that you follow each week. Now for the really interesting question: If you completely ignored your goals and focused only on your system, would you still get tcstilts? I think you would. ___15___ In the last 12 months, I’ve written over 115, 000 words. The typical book is about 50, 000 to 60, 000 words, so I have written enough to fill two books this year. All of this is such a surprise because I never set a goal for my writing. I didn’t measure my progress in relation to some benchmark. ___16___ 1 never said, “I want to write two books this year.” What I did focus on was writing one article every Monday and Thursday. I focused on my system and the process of doing the work. And after sticking to that schedule for 11 months, the result was 115, 000 words. In the end,I enjoyed the same (or perhaps better) results. Goals are good for planning your progress and systems are good for actually making progress.Goals can provide direction and even push you forward in the short term, but eventually a well-designed system will always win. Having a system is what matters. ___17___ A None of this is to say that goals are useless. B. If you’re a writer, your goal is to write a book. C. Forget about predicting the future and build a system. D. I never set a word count goal for any particular article. E. Committing to the process is what makes the difference. F. And for most of us, the path to those things starts by setting a specific goal. G. As an example, I just added up the total word count for the articles I’ve written this year. West Africa is not a suitable place to learn French. D. Everyone should speak standard French. B 2. A 3. 根据第四段中“In southern Spain, I took the boat to Morocco and over the following six months I was to visit another ten different West African countries. (在西班牙南部,我乘船去了摩洛哥,在接下来的六个月里,我又去了10个不同的西非国家。)”可知,作者去了11个非洲国家。故选B项。 【2题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“It was an amazing journey, and a learning experience on many levels. But much to my satisfaction, my French got much better! (这是一段奇妙的旅程,在很多层面上都是一次学习的经历。但令我非常满意的是,我的法语进步了很多!)”可知,作者在西非国家旅行时,法语水平大大提高。根据第一段中“When I was 20, I moved to Paris. The first room I rented was on Rue de Charonne. During my first year in Paris, the year during which I turned 21, I got a few different jobs one after another, mostly working as a waitress. (当我20岁的时候,我搬到了巴黎。我租的第一个房间在夏龙街。在巴黎的第一年,也就是我21岁那年,我接二连三地换了几份不同的工作,主要是做服务员。)”可知,作者在20岁时搬到巴黎,在餐馆做过服务员,此时作者有一定的法语基础,会说法语。故选A项。 根据最后一段中“You went to West Africa to learn French? But they have such a different accent! (你去西非学法语?但是他们的口音太不一样了!)”可知,作者的巴黎朋友认为西非人说法语有不同的口音,因此西非不是适合学习法语的地方。故选C项。 B There are many ways to travel within a city. We can walk, cycle, or take a bus. But no matter which way we choose, we have to stick to the route the city planners laid down for us. Parkour enthusiasts (跑酷爱好者), however, see the city in a completely different way. Training in a different way. D. Making the city their own. D 5. B 6. A 7. 根据文章倒数第二段中“They see parkour as a way to express themselves through relaxing moves and creative routes while freeing themselves from the pressure.(他们把跑酷视为一种表达自己方式,通过放松的动作和创造性的路线,同时释放自己的压力)”和倒数第一段中“But it would be greater if they knew that not everything in life is a competition.(但是,如果他们知道生活中并非所有事都是比赛的话,就会更好了。)” 根据第三段中“The International Gymnastics Federation has noticed that this activity is drawing more and more people to it—there are about 100,000 people taking part in parkour today in the UK alone, according to The Guardian—and how it is helpful for people to be much stronger: It trains coordination and balance.(国际体操联合会注意到这项运动正吸引越来越多的人参与其中——据《卫报》报道,目前仅在英国就有大约10万人参加跑酷运动——以及跑酷运动对人们变得更强壮的帮助:它能训练协调性和平衡性。)” 根据第二段中“To them, there are no fixed routes. There are no walls and no stairs—since they jump, climb, roll and crawl to move across, through, over and under anything that they find in their path.(对他们来说,没有固定的路线。这里没有墙,也没有楼梯——因为他们要跳跃、攀爬、翻滚和爬行来穿越、穿过、翻越或从他们发现的任何东西下面爬过去。)”可知,跑酷爱好者会按照自己的意愿移动。故选A项。 通读全文,根据第二段“Parkour enthusiasts (跑酷爱好者), however, see the city in a completely different way. To them, there are no fixed routes. There are no walls and no stairs—since they jump, climb, roll and crawl to move across, through, over and under anything that they find in their path. The city is their playground.(然而,跑酷爱好者却以一种完全不同的方式看待这座城市。对他们来说,没有固定的路线。这里没有墙,也没有楼梯——因为他们要跳跃、攀爬、翻滚和爬行来穿越、穿过、翻越或从他们发现的任何东西下面爬过去。城市是他们的游乐场。)”可知,文章主要介绍了跑酷这项体育运动,跑酷爱好者将城市作为自己的游乐场,按照自己的意愿在城市中移动。因此D项“将城市归为他们自己所有”为最佳标题。故选D项。 C I read somewhere that we spend a full third of our lives waiting. B 11. A 12. 根据第二段中“There is absolutely nothing you can do while this is going on but keep both eyes fixed on the sink until it’s full. During these waits, the brain slips away from the body and wanders about until the water runs over the edge of the counter and onto your socks. (在这个过程中,你除了双眼紧盯着水槽,等它接满水之外,根本什么也做不了。在等待的这些时候,大脑会从身体里 “抽离” 出去,四处游离,直到水漫出台面,流到你的袜子上(才回过神来)。)”可知,当我们盯着水槽看的时候,我们往往变得心不在焉。故选B项。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“The next time you’re standing at the sink waiting for it to fill while cooking noodle soup that you’ll have to eat until a large bag of cash falls out of the sky, don’t be desperate. (下次你站在水槽边等着接水,一边还要煮那碗不知道要吃到什么时候(除非天上掉下来一大袋钱才能换口味)的面条汤时,别灰心。)”可知,作者建议我们下次等待时不要失去信心。故选D项。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中“Unlike the Forced Wait, which is also voluntary, waiting for your lucky break does not necessarily mean that it will happen. (与 “被动等待” 不同 —— 尽管 “被动等待” 本质上也是主动选择的 —— 等待好运降临,并不一定意味着好运真的会来。)”可知,幸运的等待并不总是带来预期的结果。故选B项。 【11题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“A cousin to the Watched-Pot Wait is the Forced Wait. This one requires a bit of discipline. (与“守着锅等”类似的是“被动等待”。这需要一点自制力。)”可知,被动等待与守着锅等的区别是被动等待需要一定的自制力。故选A项。 通读全文,根据第二段中“The very purest form of waiting is the Watched-Pot Wait. (最纯粹的等待形式是“守着锅等”。)”和第三段中“A cousin to the Watched-Pot Wait is the Forced Wait. This one requires a bit of discipline. (与“守着锅等”类似的是“被动等待”。这需要一点自制力。)”以及第四段中“Perhaps the most powerful type of waiting is the Lucky-Break Wait. (或许最让人抱有期待的一种等待,就是 “盼好运降临的等待”。)”可知,作者通过分析不同类别的等待来支持他的观点。故选C项。 第二节(共5小题:每小题3分,满分15分) We all have things that we want to achieve in our lives-getting into the better shape, building a successful business, raising a wonderful family, and so on.___13___, At least, this is how I approached my life goals until recently.
