Over the years, the way we carry food has changed. In the past, some food products like salt, sugar or flour were usually sold loose (散的) and taken home in bags. Thanks to modern technology, today a large number of packaged (包装) food products are seen in the market.
With the help of good packaging, canned products can be kept well, transported and sold. For fragile (易碎的) foods—such as fruit, tomatoes and cakes—they are packaged for the perfect condition.
Packaging may also cause several problems. First, packaging uses a lot of world’s resources (资源). Hundreds of thousands of trees are cut down to provide paper and cardboard. And every year, millions of dollars are spent on packaging by food companies to catch the eye of consumers. As a result, people are likely to buy more food than they usually need, which may hit their wallets.
The developed world is responsible for most of the waste and has realized that it is an important problem. What can we do? Maybe we can ask companies to use recyclable materials for packaging. We hope to find better ways in the future.
9.How did people take loose products home in the past?
10.Why are fragile foods packaged?
11.How much is spent on packaging by food companies every year?
12.Do you like good packaging products? Why or why not?

Sometimes, kids don’t think their parents are fair to them. When you want to dress in a modern way, your mum won’t allow you to wear a mini-skirt. When you are making a phone call, they will ask who you’re speaking to. Those make teenagers unhappy, even less patient. Sometimes it seems that you’re not as close to your parents as you used to be. How can you change such a situation?
Both parents and children have needs. They need to feel they are important and loved. You should tell your parents your needs, and find out what their needs are. Maybe you can think of a way to make all of you happy.
When you think “my parents don’t want me to have any fun”, it usually means your parents want you to be happy. You can make time to talk. To get your parents to know what you’re doing and what you want to do, you could talk about your school life now and your dreams for the future. It helps your parents know more about you. You can also keep a diary to help you understand more about yourself and your feelings. It’s necessary to show your parents you are growing up. Wash your own clothes and help around the house. Your parents will feel you are no longer a child. If you follow these steps, you will be able to break down the walls between you and your parents. Your home will be a happier place.

A newspaper reporter is interviewing some people about their favourite food. Here are their answers.
Phil, England
My favourite food is Okonomiyaki, which comes from Japan. It’s similar I guess to an English pancake but it involves different kinds of cabbage and meat and an egg. I also like paella, which is Spanish food. It has yellow rice and lots of different types of seafood and sometimes it can be spicy.
Barbara, Australia
Well, these days I really love fruit, especially grapes. I don’t really like green apples though. They usually taste too sour. In the past I liked Italian food but these days I’m trying to be healthier so I cut that out.

13.How do kids feel when their parents aren’t fair to them sometimes?
14.Who have needs to feel they are important and loved?
15.What can you do to help you understand more about yourself and your feelings?
16.Do you think a good relationship with your parents is important? Why or why not? ( Write 30 words or more)

In China, lots of students often use much of their time to study their lessons and don’t help with housework at home. Some students don’t think they need to do housework. Some parents don’t let their children do it. As a result, students are all in need of basic skills.
Luckily, things are changing. In 2021, many schools began to teach students life skills. Guangming Middle School in Shenyang built some farming clubs. There students learnt to plant vegetables. “At first I thought I could only grow some vegetables here, but in fact, I learnt a lot about vegetables,” said Cheng Bing, a girl at the school.
In Hope Middle School, students have a special life skill class: They learn to make dumplings in different kinds of shapes. “We didn’t use to have such kind of classes, so I couldn’t make dumplings before, but now I am good at doing it. I really love my life skill class. It’s my favourite class," said Jia Yan, a boy at the school.

A newspaper reporter is interviewing some people about their favourite food. Here are their answers.
Phil, England
My favourite food is Okonomiyaki, which comes from Japan. It’s similar I guess to an English pancake but it involves different kinds of cabbage and meat and an egg. And they’re mixed together and then in the restaurant you would cook it in front of yourself and it’s very delicious and usually you have barbecue sauce and mayonnaise(蛋黄酱)on top.
Skip, The United States
I suppose I would have to say curry, but I don’t have one curry especially that is my favourite. Thai curry is very great. I love all Thai food too. I like spicy food in general. I guess if I have to say one it will be curry. That’s it. Thai curry especially.
Simone, Sweden
What’s my favourite food? Well, I don’t really have any favourite food. I like gyoza. It’s the Japanese dumpling. I can never stop eating that. I guess that’s my favourite food.

Dear Parents,
To celebrate Chinese New Year, we are going to decorate (装饰) our school with lots of colourful Chinese lanterns. Then we are going to have our own school Lantern Festival. The Lantern Festival shows that Chinese New Year has ended. Your child’s homework is to make a different and special lantern on his or her own and decorate it in any way they wish.
How to make a lantern:
1. Make the lantern on black card (or red card for a more traditional lantern).
2. Cut out windows in any shape you wish.
3. Glue around the windows and cover them with thin paper.
4. Roll (滚动) the card into a cylinder (圆柱) shape and stick together.
5. Make two holes at the top and hang it with some thread (线).
All lanterns need to be in school by January 3rd, 2024, so we can make a great preparation for the show. Each of students’ work will be shown in our school on January 14th. I look forward to seeing you all at our school’s Lantern Festival!

Almost everyone will have a teacher they don’t like at some point. Usually it’s not the end of the world. Here are some tips to help you deal with your teacher and get through the school year without too much trouble.
①Making the best of the situation
You may have heard rumors (谣言) about the teacher you will have next year, but try your best not to let these stories influence your own opinion. If you go into it with an open mind, you’re much more likely to get along with your teacher.
It’s important to learn how to deal with people you don’t like, so try to view this experience as an important life lesson. Remember that you don’t have to like your teacher in order to learn from him/her. As long as you are still doing well in the class, do your best to deal with your teacher.
If you think your teacher is being mean (刻薄的) to you, always be a polite student. You may find that your good attitude will rub off on (感染) your teacher.
②Talking it out
If you’re really having a hard time learning because of your teacher’s teaching style, consider having an open conversation with him/her about it, and see if he/she can help you learn better.
If other students in the class seem to be getting along with the teacher and doing well in the class, talk to them. They may have some useful tips.
Let your parents know how you feel about your teacher, but he sure to explain exactly why you feel that way. They may be able to offer you some good advice on how to deal with the situation.

When you are feeling unhappy or forget how great you are, these six ways can help make you feel good about yourself.
•Look in the mirror and say to yourself, “I am a special person and there is no one in the world like me. I can do anything,” It may not sound so good, but it really works.
•Do something nice for someone. Helping others always makes you feel good.
•Smile! Be friendly to people you meet. Look for the good things in your friends and family.
•Learn something new! Have you always wanted to design your own room or learn how to swim? Go for it! New challenges are fun and give you a sense of accomplishment when you have finished.
•Start to write a story. Turn off the TV and let your imagination fly! Write down your thought, dreams or anything you want! It can help to express your feelings.
•Stay with your family. We all need our family time. Talk with your mom or dad or maybe even your cousin.
