From September to February each year, Dazhong Mountain in Chuxiong, Yunnan is home to more than 50, 000, 000 migratory birds (候鸟). People used to call the mountain Daqueshan, which means bird-hunting mountain.
The villagers used to hunt birds on the mountain. Then one year, they couldn’t hear birds singing. People started to worry if migratory birds would return again. In 1984, the Hongtupo Forest Police Station was set up. The officers worked on the mountain, trying to find migratory birds and stop people from hunting them. The job was really difficult. They might lose their way or meet dangerous animals.
The officers also tried to tell villagers the importance of protecting birds and other wild animals. They visited the villagers door to door and helped them with farm work. They even organized activities in schools to get their messages across to children. Now, even children know that birds are to be loved. The mountain is greener, the water is clearer, and more and more animals come to live here. It has become a bird-protecting mountain. Many people have opened bed-and-breakfasts (民宿) for birdwatchers.

阅读短文,并根据短文内容回答问题。
Saihanba is a forest park in the north of Hebei. It is about 400 km from Beijing. For hundreds of years, the emperors went there to hunt. In the 1800s, things began to change. There were forest fires and wars, and people cut too many trees. Saihanba slowly turned into a desert.
When the forest disappeared, there were terrible sandstorms in the Beijing area. In the early 1960s, a group of scientists travelled to Saihanba to find a solution. They found an old tree in the middle of the desert. “Maybe we can still plant trees here,” they thought. In 1962, the first tree planters arrived in Saihanba. The cold and dry weather made their work very difficult, and strong winds blew away many young trees. In winter, it got as cold as -40°c.
Three generations (代) of forest workers continued the hard work. Thanks to them, Saihanba is green again. It is today the world’s biggest man-made forest. Chinese traditional painting and dance are two important parts of the art world. But what about when they meet each other?
A dance drama called The Journey of a Legendary Landscape Painting was shown on CCTV’s Spring Festival Gala. It became popular overnight.
According to CCTV, this dance got the idea from the 900-year-old Chinese painting—A Panoruma of Rivers and Mountains (《千里江山图》), which was created by Song Dynasty painter Wang Ximeng when he was about 18 years old.
A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains is the only extant(尚存的)work by Wang. Now the painting is at the Palace Museum. It has been on show to the public only four times since 1949. The 11.9-meter-long painting records people’s lives and the natural scenery(景色)including mountains, rivers and villages of that time.
The dance show tells the story of a researcher who has worked hard to study the painting. By chance, the researcher travels back in time to see the moment when Wang was about to finish the work. As the painting was finished, the researcher guides the audience(观众)into the world of the painter. The dance show provides the audience with a new experience to better learn about the work. It shows the process of how painting is done.
The dancers each had a different hairstyle, which looked like a mountain rock. The clothes that they wore were color of green and blue, which is also poetic show of the mountains and rivers. When the dancers danced beautifully, the audience seemed to be looking at the moving mountains and rivers. Huge mountains and rivers are coming to life! More than a thousand years later, green mountains and rivers still wow people as they did long ago.

Tim Berners-Lee is not the most famous inventor in the world. However, his invention has changed our lives.
He was born in London, England in 1955. When he was a small boy, Tim was interested in playing with electronic things. He studied science at Oxford University. He made his first computer from an old television at the age of 21. Tim started working on early computers. At that time, they were much bigger than now. He worked in England then Switzerland. Tim was really interested in two things, computers and how the brain works. How could the brain connect so many facts so quickly? He had to work with people all over the world. They shared information about computers. It was hard to manage all the information. He answered the same questions again and again. It took a lot of time. It was even difficult for computers in the same office in Switzerland to share information . Tim also forgot things easily.
Could a computer work like a brain? Could it “talk” to other computers?
There was an Internet already but it was difficult to use. In 1989, Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web (WWW) all by himself. This had a special language that helped computers talk to each other on the Internet. When people wanted to share information with others, they used the World Wide Web. The Internet grew quickly after that. Tim Berners-Lee doesn’t think he did anything special. He says that all of the ideas about the Internet were already there. All he did was to put them together. He says that many other people worked together to make the Internet what it is today.
Most inventors want to become rich. But Tim gave away the World Wide Web for nothing. He now works in America. He helps people share technology and wants the Internet to be free for everyone to use. Maybe he is the most important but least famous inventor in the world today
37.What was Tim Berners-Lee interested in when he was young?
38.When did Tim Berners-Lee make his first computer?
39.What did Tim Berners-Lee invent all by himself when he was 34 years old?

37.根据“When he was a small boy, Tim was interested in playing with electronic things.”可知,当Tim还是个小男孩的时候,他对玩电子产品很感兴趣,故填Playing with electronic things.
38.根据“He was born in London, England in 1955.”及“He made his first computer from an old television at the age of 21.”可知,1955年出生,在21岁制造了他的第一台电脑,也就是在1976年,故填At the age of 21/In 1976/When he was 21 years old.

“The village has changed a lot, and we don’t hunt birds anymore,” people say. Since people have stopped hunting, the police station now mainly works to save injured (受伤的) wildlife.

There are hundreds of millions of trees there. The forest helps provide the capital with clean water, and there are fewer sandstorms in the Beijing area now.
17.What is Saihanba?
18.Who discovered an old tree in the desert at Saihanba?
19.When did the first tree planters arrive in Saihanba?
20.What do you think of the forest workers? Why? (At least 30 words.)

“Four great inventions” in ancient China are important symbols of the country. Now China has “new four great inventions”: high-speed trains, mobile payment, bike sharing and online shopping. They are changing people’s lives in China and maybe all over the world.
High-speed trains
By the end of 2016, China had the world’s largest high-speed railway network (网). More than 2,500 high-speed trains are running across China each day. Lin Jinlong, an overseas (海外的) student from Cambodia, shared his experience of travelling by Chinese high-speed train from Beijing to Tianjin. The two cities are over 100 km away, but the trip took only about half an hour. “That was amazing!” Lin said.
Mobile payment (移动支付)
Mobile payment has become a part of Chinese people’s everyday life. It makes their lives much more convenient. “My wallet is no longer in use. I can buy and eat anything with my smart phone,” said Lin, “Even vegetable sellers are using mobile payment.”
Online shopping
You are out if you have never shopped online. Now you can buy almost everything from websites (网站), and get what you’ve bought within days. China’s online shopping makes many foreigners feel both excited and surprised.
Bike sharing
Bike sharing allows users to pick a bike anywhere in the city and leave it anywhere at the end of their journey. It’s really convenient, cheap and green. Mobike, a bike sharing company, has even brought the service to some other countries.

In recent years, more and more modern shows with Chinese traditional culture have received a warm welcome, especially among young people. They show great love to Chinese culture and are proud of it.
29.How old was Wang Ximeng when he created the painting?
30.What does the painting record?
31.What does the dancers’ hairstyle look like?
32.Would you like to watch the dance show? Why or why not?

40.Has Tim Berners-Lee changed our lives? What do you think of Tim Berners-Lee?
