B Everybody likes to feel that they’re somebody special. Sadly, many of us grow up believing that we’re not special at all. We wish that we could be more attractive or better at sports. We wish we had more money or nicer clothes. Like the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, or the Cowardly Lion from The Wizard of Oz (绿野仙踪), we think we’re not good enough just as we are. In the film, The Tin Man wishes he had a heart. The Scarecrow wishes he had a brain, and the Lion wants courage. Finally, each of them realizes that he already has what he wants. Nearly all parents want us to be the best we can be. They sometimes encourage us to do better by comparing us to others. They mean well, but the message we usually get is that we’re not good enough. There will always be somebody out there that is better than we are. There are people around who may not be as intelligent as we are but who are better at sports. Or they may not be as handsome, but they have more money. It is unthinkable for us to be better than everybody else all the time. Like the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion, we all need what we believe will make us better people. We often don’t understand that we already have the very things we look for. Our parents often forget to tell us we are somebody special. They often tell us that we are good enough just the way we are. Perhaps no one told them when they were growing up, or maybe they just forgot. Either way, it’s up to us to remind them sometimes that each of us, in a way, is special. What we are . . . is enough. (301 words) 24. What is the writer’s main aim in writing the text? A. To talk about your family problems. B. To explain the importance of being yourself. C. To describe how intelligent we are. D. To suggest how people can change their way of life. 25. This essay was most likely written by _________ . A. a young person B. a coach C. a teacher D. a parent 26. What does the writer believes according to the text? A. The richer you are, the better you are. B. Not everyone can be special. C. Intelligent people are more special than others. D. We are all good enough just the way we are. 27. Which of the following would be the best title for this passage? A. What Makes You Laugh? B. What Makes You Happy? C. What Makes You Special? D. What Makes You Stronger? C My most embarrassing travel mistake happened during my first trip to Japan. I was trying to get from Tokyo to the smaller city of Odawara. I arrived at the huge Tokyo station and actually felt quite confident. I found the correct platform, saw a train with ‘Nagoya’ on the destination board, which I knew was in the right direction, and quickly got on. I found a comfortable seat by the window and started to relax. For the first hour, I was enjoying the view as the countryside flew past. But I slowly began to realise that the train was not stopping at any small stations. In fact, it wasn’t stopping at all. I started to feel a bit worried. I looked at my cheap ticket again and then at the other passengers. They all looked like business travellers, and the train was very quiet and modern. About ninety minutes later, the train finally slowed down. An announcement said we had arrived in Nagoya! I was completely lost, very embarrassed, and a long way past my destination. I got off the train and tried to speak to a station guard. My Japanese was terrible, and his English was not much better, so it was a complete misunderstanding at first. Finally, with a lot of pointing at maps and a translation app on my phone, he understood my problem. He laughed and explained I had taken the ‘Shinkansen’, the super-fast bullet train, not the local service which stops at Odawara. I had to pay a very expensive new fare to get a train back to my destination. I was just relieved that I knew where I was. It was an embarrassing mistake, but now it’s a funny story to tell my friends. 28. What detail first suggested to the writer that they might be on the wrong train? A. The train’s failure to make any local stops. B. The price of their ticket seemed too low. C. The professional appearance of the other passengers. D. The destination board showed the wrong city name. 29. What kind of service was the “Shinkansen”? A. A special tourist train with large windows. B. A train that only runs at night. C. A local service for commuters. D. An express service for long-distance travel. 30. Which statement best describes the writer’s travel joke? A. He/She misread the destination board at the station. B. He/She boarded an express service that did not stop at their planned destination. C. He/She got on a train going in the completely opposite direction. D. He/She bought a ticket for the wrong day of travel. 31. What did the writer have to do at the end? A. Pay for a new, expensive ticket. B. Wait for many hours for the next train. C. Get a free journey back to their destination. D. Apologize to the other passengers for the delay. D What am I doing with my daughter at home? Rather than read aloud from books, we go dinner and have a very a good time. This is usually when her Mom isn’t around, and this is when my little girl and I relate better. They’re alone together so much. We’re seldom alone. When we’re alone together, she and I somehow behave differently. We learn about each other. She learns that I’m her father. I learn that she’s my daughter. It’s a strange feeling, but any parent knows what I’m talking about when I say that I often look at my daughter and wonder just whose kid she is. Where’d she suddenly come from? And why on earth did she pick Laura and me for parents? When my daughter and I are along she’ll hold my hand and say, “I just love you so much, Daddy !” She’s so used to my leaving that when I tell her she and I are going to hang out all night, she gets this great look on her face and says, “We’ve got so much to do, Dad!” There’s nothing like it in the world. I want my relationship with my daughter to keep growing, so I’ve been giving my wife a couple of hundred dollars each week and making her go to the shopping center with her girlfriends, or something—anything ! But this closeness is not without its problems. When I’m sitting there playing with her Barbie doll (巴比娃娃), washing her hair, a voice in me suddenly says, “I’ve got to get a drink and get out of here.” Right in the middle of all this pleasantness, the voice goes, “Look at yourself ! You’re washing dolls !” 32. Why does the husband give his wife so much money each week? A. He wants her to buy more things for the family. B. She can do whatever she likes with the money. C. He can spend more time with his daughter. D. She can spend more time with her friends. 33. Which of the following statements is true? A. The father is sure that the daughter is not his own B. The father is happy, hearing “We’ve got so much to do, Dad !” C. The daughter is happy when the father tells her he will be away D. The father spends more time with the daughter than the mother does 34. What does the last paragraph tell us about the father? A. He doesn’t enjoy being with his daughter B. He doesn’t like washing his daughter’s hair C. He likes to enjoy himself by going out for a drink D. He has mixed feelings when he is with his daughter 35. What is the main purpose of the author’s description of the “voice” in the last paragraph? A. To stress the societal pressure on fathers B. To show his confusion about his role as a father C. To show his inner conflict between joy and doubt D. To express his desire to escape family responsibilities Parent-child conflicts are a common part of family life. While they can’t be avoided, both don’t have to harm the relationship. Parents can guide children through disagreements in ways that promote each other’s respect and understanding. Here are some helpful strategies for resolving parent-child conflicts in a healthy manner. Listen to your child’s voice. When conflicts appear, make an effort to truly listen to your child. Try to see the situation from their point of view. Instead of becoming defensive, consider their emotions. 36 This approach helps address problems more effectively and builds a stronger connection. Team up with your child. Aim to work together so that both of you feel heard and valued. Use simple gestures (手势) like sitting or lying next to your child to show support. Join them in their space and focus on their feelings. For example, you might say, “I see you’re busy playing, but we need to eat now. Let’s finish this together after dinner.” 37 Find your center. It’s natural to feel frustrated when your child doesn’t listen. 38 Try to stay calm even when your child is upset. Practice taking deep breaths or stepping away for a moment. You can say, “We’re both getting upset. Let’s take a break and calm down.” 39 Conflicts can be opportunities to connect with emotions (情感). Social-emotional learning tools can be very helpful. For example, characters like Slumberkins’ Hammerhead teach children to stop for a while and breathe when they feel angry. Yeti encourages slow breathing to help manage big feelings. Define (界定) safety and family systems. Arguments may happen when parents try to keep children safe. 40 Be clear and kind when setting boundaries. You could say, “I know you don’t want to hold my hand, but my most important job is to keep you safe.” A. Set limits and rules for them. B. Use tools to calm them down. C. This shows you are on their side. D. Use these moments to explain your role. E. But children often mirror adults’ emotions. F. Create a safer space for helpful conversation. G. Let them know you understand they are upset. I grew up in a community called Estepona.I was 16 when one morning, Dad told me I could drive him into a 41 village called Mijas, on condition that (条件是) I took the car in to be 42 at a nearby repair workshop. Over the next years, they will continue to learn their roles, relationships with those 57 are older or younger, and other cultural ways of thinking, learning, and living. Parenting is hard but rewarding We all come into that role with different strengths, supports, and challenges. 58 people who come to parenting with a natural wish to be sensitive and responsive may find themselves 59 (tire), anxious, or depressed by other pressures. Home-based services 60 (be) particularly well-suited to help parents through these times. Parents who have not experienced warm relationships may not even have warm feelings toward their child, 61 much they would like to. Sometimes home visitors are able to help parents deal with these difficulties that are a result of their own childhood experiences. Home visitors are in 62 unique position to provide a consistent (一致的), warm, responsive relationship to the parents. 63 (help) the parent become aware of the different ways people may behave and feel in relationships is one step in building new relationship 64 (skill) to use with their child. Crediting (赞扬) the parents for the small steps they exhibit in the new relationship with the home visitor and with the child will help to support the parents’ ability and 65 (confident) in their experience of connection. Dear Tom, ___________________________________________________________________________________________ Best regards, Li Hua 第二节(满分25分) 阅读下面材料:根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 Laura was 16, her younger brother, Aaron, was 13. Her family was going through a challenging economic period and there was plenty of stress at home. Laura, like many oldest daughters, was particularly affected by her parent’s difficult situations. The pressures that come with being a tween didn’t help. With hormones increasing, academic pressures increasing and friendships becoming more uncomfortable, Laura was often upset. On many days it seemed like she was eager to pick a fight whenever she was home, particularly with her Mom. (Many mothers and daughters ride an emotional roller coaster at this age). Laura’s Mom, Rose, came to me for help. After talking we decided that Rose was not going to try to pick her battles (战斗), cutting back on some of her frequent corrections of Laura. When she knew it was important to interrupt behavior she would do so calmly but firmly. All that Rose was juggling (变戏法;尽力同时应付) combined with Laura’s strange but special ability to “push her mother’s buttons” would make this task far from simple. We were cautiously optimistic that if Mom was even a little successful there would be less fighting and life at home would get a bit easier. Rose did well and the results were worth the effort. Here is one particularly challenging moment when Rose was able to “turn vinegar (醋) into wine”. On a particular day Laura came home from school obviously upset. Rose could tell that even the small annoyance could be blown up out of proportion (比例). When Laura walked into the kitchen, Aaron was sitting at the kitchen table working on a birthday card for his mom. Unfortunately he had chosen to “borrow” without permission from his sister’s favorite pen to complete the project. Unpleasant words were exchanged and pretty soon Laura had grabbed his creation, tore it up and stormed off to her room. Rose took a deep breath and managed to keep herself from running after Laura. Then instead of arguing, the two children worked together on a birthday present for their mother. 21. Typically, these meetings focus on students’ academic performance, personal development, and ways to enhance home-school cooperation. The process usually begins with a general assembly where the headteacher shares overall class progress. Then, parents meet individually with subject teachers to discuss their child’s specific strengths and areas for improvement. Finally, parents and teachers may work together to set goals for the coming time. It’s a meaningful practice that helps build a supportive educational environment. Feel free to ask if you’d like to know more! Rose took a deep breath and managed to keep herself from running after Laura. She first comforted Aaron, who was on the point of tears, and helped him gather the torn pieces of the card. Then she knocked gently on Laura’s door. When Laura opened it, Rose said calmly, “I know you’re upset about your pen, but Aaron was trying to do something kind. Let’s find a solution together.” She handed Laura the torn card and added, “He needs your help to make it beautiful again.” Laura, surprised by her mother’s calmness, hesitated but finally nodded. (82 words) Then instead of arguing, the two children worked together on a birthday present for their mother. Laura not only helped repair the card but also offered her best art supplies to Aaron. They sat side by side, designing a new card with drawings and heartfelt messages. As they worked, Laura even shared stories about their mom’s favorite colors and designs. The tension melted away, replaced by cooperation and even laughter. Rose watched quietly, grateful that her patience had turned a moment of conflict into an opportunity for healing and connection. Then instead of arguing, the two children worked together on a birthday present for their mother. excuse me, can you tell me how much the shell is? But that’s not true. We are always painting the bridge, but we have to go where the paint is in bad condition. It’s a dangerous job. You have to be careful all the time. You can't work without safety equipment. And the weather gets cold up here. Sometimes it’s so cold that there’s ice on the bridge. You have to wear warm clothes. Sometimes it’s windy and foggy. On foggy days, you can’t see anything. The view from the top is the thing that I love about the job. On a sunny day like today, you can see from the ocean to the port and all the way to the mountains. A Martha was at the grocery store, getting ready for a house party. Four mushrooms(是清单上的,未提及降价)。故选A。 22. C。 原文中,在肉类和乳制品区,她看到肉在降价销售("She looked at the meat that is on sale"),于是选择了一卷5磅的汉堡肉("chooses a 5-pound roll of hamburger")。选项:A. Five pounds of fish(清单上是2条鱼,未按磅计);B. Five pounds of cheese(清单上是1块奶酪,未按磅计);D. Five pounds of milk(清单上是2加仑牛奶,不是按磅计)。故选C。 23. B 25. A 26. D 27. 最后一句点明主旨:“What we are...is enough.”(我们本来的样子就是足够的。) 25. A。 故选A。 26. D。 文章结尾直接表明:“What we are...is enough.”(我们本来的样子就是足够的。) 标题“What Makes You Special?”(什么让你特别?) C。 C My most embarrassing travel mistake happened during my first trip to Japan. A 29. D 30. B 31. 28. A。 第二段开头明确提到:“But I slowly began to realize that the train was not stopping at any small stations. In fact, it wasn’t stopping at all.”(但我慢慢意识到,这列火车没有在任何小站停靠。 作者原本要去Odawara(小田原),但误乘了直达Nagoya(名古屋)的新干线特快列车,中途不停站。原文明确提到:“I had taken the 'Shinkansen'... not the local service which stops at Odawara.”(我坐的是新干线…… 31. A。 文章最后一段明确说:“I had to pay a very expensive new fare to get a train back to my destination.”(我不得不付一笔很贵的新车费,坐车返回目的地。) D What am I doing with my daughter at home? To express his desire to escape family responsibilities 【答案】32. C 33. B 34. D 35. I want my relationship with my daughter to keep growing, so I’ve been giving my wife a couple of hundred dollars each week and making her go to the shopping center with her girlfriends, or something—anything!"(我希望我和女儿的关系能持续加深,所以我每周都给妻子几百块钱,让她和闺蜜去购物中心之类的——什么都行!) 第二段中,父亲描述女儿听到整晚相处的反应:“she gets this great look on her face and says, 'We’ve got so much to do, Dad!' There’s nothing like it in the world.”(她脸上露出灿烂的表情说:“我们有很多事要做,爸爸!” (She’s so used to my leaving),但父亲说要整晚陪伴时,她是开心而非高兴父亲离开。选项D错误:原文提到“They’re alone together so much. We’re seldom alone.”(她们母女独处时间很多,我们父女很少独处),说明母亲陪女儿时间更多。 34. D。 判断推理题。 最后一段描述父亲在温馨互动中突然产生矛盾心理:一方面享受亲密时光(sitting there playing with her Barbie doll, washing her hair),另一方面内心有个声音催促他离开(“I’ve got to get a drink and get out of here”),甚至自嘲“Look at yourself! You’re washing dolls!”。 Parent-child conflicts are a common part of family life. G 37. C 38. E 39. B 40. (Let them know you understand they are upset)”与此完美衔接,是对“承认情绪”的具体说明。 37. (This shows you are on their side)"是对这个示例的总结,解释了这种行为的深层含义。 38. (Use Tools to Calm Them Down) ”最能概括本段主旨,且与其他小标题形式一致(都是动词短语)。 40. (Use these moments to explain your role)”自然承接上文,并引出后文关于“设定界限”的内容。 I grew up in a community called Estepona.I was 16 when one morning, Dad told me I could drive him into a 41 village called Mijas, on condition that (条件是) I took the car in to be 42 at a nearby repair workshop. I readily accepted. I drove Dad into Mijas, and 43 to pick him up at 4 p. m. then dropped off the car at the workshop. With several hours to spare, I went to a theater. However, when the last movie finished, it was six. I was two hours late! I knew Dad would be angry if he 44 out I’d been watching movies. So I decided not to tell him the 45 . When I hurried there I apologized for being late, and told him I’d come as quickly as I could, but that the car had needed some 46 repairs. I’ll never forget the 47 he showed me. “I’m disappointed you feel you have to lie to me, Jason.” Dad looked at me again. “When you didn’t 48 . I called the manager to ask if there were any 49 , and they told me you hadn’t yet picked up the car.” I felt 50 as I weakly told him the real reason. A sadness passed through Dad as he listened 51 . “I’m angry with myself. I realize I’ve 52 as a father. I’m going to walk home now and think seriously about where I’ve gone wrong all these years. ” “But Dad, it’s 18 miles!” My protests (抗议) and apologies were 53 . Dad walked home that day. A. changed B. failed C. started D. continued 53. A. helpful B. useless C. reasonable D. unexpected 54. A. way B. night C. day D. street 55. A. lesson B. subject C. experience D. example 【答案】 41. A 42. B 43. D 44. D 45. C 46. A 47. D 48. A 49. B 50. A 51. D 52. B 53. B 54. A 55. A. worked out (解决,算出), B. took out (取出), C. gave out (分发),均不符合文意。 45. A. way (方式), B. time (时间), D. reason (原因) 均不能准确表达“撒谎隐瞒事实”的核心。 46. 48. A. turn up 解析:动词短语题。父亲说“When you didn’t turn up.”,意思是“当你没有出现时”。A. turn up (出现,露面) 是固定短语。B. speed up (加速), C. break down (抛锚,崩溃), D. set off (出发) 均不符合“按时到达”的语境。 49. 此处考查固定短语“all the way”(一路,自始至终)。A. way 是正确答案。B. night (晚上), C. day (天), D. street (街道) 均不能与“all the”构成表示“全程”的固定搭配。 55. In the first three years, children learn their culture’s and family’s rules for how to be active in relationships, what behaviors are unacceptable, and how their families expect them 56 (learn). 56. to learn 57. who 58. Even 59. tired 60. are 61. however 62. a 63. 56. to learn 考查固定搭配:expect sb to do sth(期望某人做某事)。此处为被动语态“they are expected to learn”的省略形式,因此用不定式to learn。 62. a 考查固定搭配:in a unique position(处于一个独特的位置),unique以辅音音素开头,用不定冠词a。 63. Dear Tom, ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ Best regards, Li Hua 【参考范文】 Dear Tom, I’m glad to hear about your interest in Chinese parent-teacher meetings. 流程清晰:使用“usually begins... then... finally...” 语言自然:采用“I’m glad to hear” “Feel free to ask”等地道表达,符合邮件交际习惯。 Laura was 16, her younger brother, Aaron, was 13. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Then instead of arguing, the two children worked together on a birthday present for their mother. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【参考范文】 Rose took a deep breath and managed to keep herself from running after Laura. 语言亮点: 使用“on the point of tears” “hesitated but finally nodded”等短语刻画情绪转折。 结尾“grateful that...”
