教学过程
1. Warming-up (5 minutes)
Greet the students as usual. Then, show some pictures of famous athletes on the screen, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Serena Williams. Ask students: "Do you know these people? What sports are they good at?" Encourage students to answer actively.
Then, lead to the topic of this lesson by asking: "These athletes are very successful in sports. But do you think they neglect their studies? How do they manage their time for both sports and studies?" This can arouse students' curiosity and lead them into the new lesson.
2. Pre-listening (10 minutes)
Vocabulary Introduction: Present the new words and expressions related to sports and studies on the PPT, such as "kick a ball", "train", "pass the ball", "score goals", "improve", "keep fit", "balance", "focus on". Teach students how to pronounce and explain the meanings briefly. For example, when teaching "kick a ball", you can make a kicking gesture. Let students read the words and expressions after the teacher several times.
Skill Building - Predicting: Introduce the skill of predicting in listening. Tell students that before listening, they can predict the content according to the title and some given information. Show students the title of the listening material "An Interview with a School Football Player" and some key words like "start playing football", "balance time", "training", "studies". Ask students to think about what questions the interviewer may ask. Divide students into pairs to discuss and write down some possible questions. Then, invite some pairs to share their questions with the class.
3. While-listening (15 minutes)
First Listening: Play the recording of the interview for the first time. Let students listen carefully and try to answer the questions they predicted before. After listening, check the answers with the class. If there are some wrong answers, play the relevant parts of the recording again to help students understand.
Second Listening: Play the recording for the second time. This time, ask students to take notes of the key information, such as when the football player started playing football, how the school football team trains, and how he balances his training and studies. After listening, ask students to share their notes in groups. Then, invite some students to report their group's notes to the whole class.
Language Points Explanation: During this stage, explain some important language points in the listening material. For example, explain the sentence "The more I practised, the better I became." and let students understand the usage of "The + the comparative degree, the + the comparative degree". Give them some more examples like "The harder you work, the more progress you will make." and ask students to make their own sentences using this pattern.
4. Post-listening (10 minutes)
Group Discussion: Divide students into groups of four or five. Give them the topic: "How can we balance our time for sports and studies in our daily life?" Let students discuss in groups and list some suggestions. After the discussion, each group chooses a representative to report their group's suggestions to the class.
Role-play: Arrange a role-play activity. Some students act as interviewers, and some act as students who are both good at sports and studies. The interviewers ask questions about how to balance sports and studies, and the interviewees answer according to their own ideas. This activity can help students further understand the topic and improve their oral English skills.
5. Summary and Homework (5 minutes)
Summary: Summarize the key points of this lesson with the students, including the new vocabulary, the sentence pattern "The + the comparative degree, the + the comparative degree", and the main ideas of the listening material about balancing sports and studies.
Homework:
Ask students to write a short passage about how to balance sports and studies in their own ways. The passage should include at least three suggestions and use the sentence pattern "The + the comparative degree, the + the comparative degree" at least once.
Let students search for more information about famous athletes who have achieved good results in both sports and studies and share it in the next class.
教学反思
After teaching this lesson, I need to reflect on the following aspects. Firstly, in the vocabulary teaching part, although I used gestures and pictures to help students understand, some students may still have difficulties in remembering the words. Maybe I can design some more interesting vocabulary games in the future to enhance students' memory. Secondly, during the listening process, some students had trouble catching all the key information. I should give more pre-listening guidance and practice students' listening skills more frequently. Thirdly, in the group discussion and role-play activities, most students actively participated, but a few students were a bit shy. I need to encourage these students more and create a more relaxed and friendly atmosphere in class. Overall, through this reflection, I will adjust my teaching methods and strategies to make the teaching of the next lesson more effective.
