教学过程
1. Lead - in (5 minutes)
Greet the students as usual and then start the class with an interesting question: "If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?" Let several students answer the question. This question can arouse students' enthusiasm and make them think about their wishes and interests.
Then show some pictures on the PPT, including pictures of people dancing, running, playing musical instruments, painting, etc. Ask students: "What are these people doing? Do you like these activities?" Guide students to express their opinions briefly.
2. Presentation (15 minutes)
First, play the recording of the dialogue between Anna and John for the students to listen. After listening, ask some simple questions to check their understanding, such as "How many friends of John are mentioned in the dialogue?" "What does Tony like?"
Then present the new words and phrases related to interests and abilities on the PPT, explain their meanings and pronunciations. For example, when teaching "dancing", show a short video of people dancing to help students have a more vivid understanding. Drill the words and phrases with students, let them read aloud several times.
Next, focus on the grammar - the simple present tense. Use some simple examples on the PPT to explain the formation and usage of the simple present tense in expressing interests and abilities. For example:
"I like singing. Singing makes me happy." (Explain that the simple present tense is used to describe a habitual action or a general fact, and here "like" is in the base form because the subject is "I".)
"He likes playing football. He plays football every Saturday." (Emphasize that when the subject is the third - person singular "he", the verb "like" changes to "likes", and "play" also changes to "plays".)
Let students do some simple oral exercises. Give them some subjects and activities, and ask them to make sentences using the simple present tense, such as "She / draw", "They / run".
3. Practice (15 minutes)
Group Activity 1: Interview
Divide the students into groups of four. In each group, students take turns to interview others about their interests and abilities. They can use the questions and expressions they have just learned, such as "What are your hobbies?" "Do you like...?" "Are you good at...?" Each student should fill in a simple form about the information of their group members.
After the interview, ask some groups to report the results to the whole class. For example, "In our group, Tom likes playing basketball, and he is good at it. Lucy likes reading books, and she is interested in history books."
Group Activity 2: Role - play
Provide some situations on the PPT, such as two students meeting at a new school club, or a teacher interviewing students about their hobbies for a school activity. Each group chooses one situation to do a role - play. They need to create a short dialogue using the vocabulary and grammar they have learned.
Invite several groups to perform their role - plays in front of the class. After each performance, let other students give some comments, such as praising good expressions or pointing out grammar mistakes.
4. Consolidation (5 minutes)
Show some sentences on the PPT with blanks. The sentences are related to interests and abilities and need to be filled with the correct forms of verbs or appropriate words. For example:
He ____ (like) playing computer games.
My sister is good at ____ (dance).
I am interested in ____ (paint) because it is ____ (relax).
Let students think independently and then call some students to come to the blackboard to fill in the blanks. Check the answers together and explain the reasons for each blank.
5. Summary and Homework (5 minutes)
Summary
Summarize the key points of this class with the students, including important vocabulary and phrases, the usage of the simple present tense in expressing interests and abilities. Ask students to recall the new knowledge they have learned in this class.
Emphasize the importance of expressing interests and abilities in English, and encourage students to use English to communicate about this topic in their daily lives.
Homework
Ask students to write a short passage about their own interests and abilities, at least 5 sentences. They should use the words and grammar learned in this class.
Let students prepare a short speech about their dream jobs based on their interests and abilities for the next class. They can collect some information about their dream jobs, such as job descriptions and required abilities.
教学反思
After teaching this class, I have the following reflections:
Positive Aspects
The lead - in part was effective in attracting students' attention. The question about superpowers and the pictures of various activities successfully aroused students' interest and made them actively participate in the initial discussion.
In the presentation of new knowledge, the combination of listening to the dialogue, learning new words and phrases, and explaining grammar was relatively smooth. The use of visual aids like videos and pictures helped students better understand new vocabulary.
The group activities provided students with sufficient opportunities to practice speaking. Most students actively participated in the interview and role - play activities, which improved their oral English ability and cooperation skills.
Areas for Improvement
In the grammar teaching part, although I used examples to explain the simple present tense, some students still had difficulties in using the third - person singular form correctly. In the future, more targeted exercises and more vivid explanations are needed. For example, I can make a short animation to show the change of verb forms in different subjects.
During the group activities, some students were too shy to speak actively. In the future, I should create a more relaxed and supportive atmosphere, and encourage these students more. Maybe I can start with some easier tasks for them to build up their confidence.
The time control in the practice part can be improved. Some groups did not have enough time to fully present their role - plays. In the next class, I will more accurately estimate the time required for each activity and make appropriate adjustments.
