Unit 1 Me and my class Lesson 4 My first week 教学设计 I. Teaching Objectives 1. Knowledge Objectives Students will master vocabulary related to school life and feelings (e.g., excited, fantastic, wonder, physics) and understand Li Ming's diary about his first week at school. Students will be able to comprehend the diary, judge true or false statements, complete tables with information from the diary, and write their own diary entries about the first week of school. 2. Ability Objectives Improve reading and writing skills: Extract information from the diary to complete tasks like true/false judgment and table filling, and write a diary entry. Enhance speaking and listening skills: Interview partners about the new school term and take notes. 3. Affective Objectives Help students recall their own first - week school experiences, stimulate their positive emotions towards school life, and encourage them to look forward to and actively participate in school activities. II. Language Knowledge 1. Key Vocabulary & Phrases School and emotion - related words: excited, fantastic, wonder, physics Key phrases: look forward to, take notes 2. Key Sentence Patterns Talking about school activities: “On Monday, I got up early. I met all my classmates at school.” “During the gym class on Wednesday, we played football.” Expressing feelings: “I felt excited to learn more about the wonders of science.” “I’m looking forward to another fantastic week!” 3. Key and Challenging Points Key Points: Understand Li Ming's diary about his first week at school, master related vocabulary and phrases, and complete reading and writing tasks. Challenging Points: Writing a diary entry about one's own first week of school with proper content and expressions. III. Teaching Procedures Step 1: Warm - up & Lead - in Activity: School Term Feelings Sharing Ask students two questions: “How do you feel at the beginning of the new school term?”, “Do you have a simple plan and any goals for yourself? What are they?”. Let students share their answers. Step 2: Reading & Comprehension Activity 1: Diary Reading and True/False Judgment Have students read Li Ming's diary and then judge whether statements A - D are true or false. Check answers to ensure students grasp the main content of the diary. Activity 2: Information Extraction for Table Completion Ask students to read the diary again and complete the table with the day of the week and corresponding activities. Step 3: Interview & Discussion Activity: Pair Interview Ask students to work in pairs to interview each other about the new school term, using the given questions (How do you like Grade 8? How do you feel about seeing your classmates again? What is new this term? What activities does your school have during the first week? What are you looking forward to this term?). Let them take notes during the interview. Step 4: Writing & Practice Activity: Diary Entry Writing Guide students to write a diary entry about their first week of school, using the useful expressions provided (I’m so excited to...; It's... to...; I can't wait to...). Step 5: Summary & Homework Activity 1: Lesson Summary Recap key vocabulary and phrases (school and emotion - related terms), the content of Li Ming's diary, and the structure of a diary entry. Activity 2: Homework Assignment Assign homework: (1) Polish the diary entry written in class and share it with family. (2) Read more diary entries to learn different writing styles. IV. Assessment In - class: Assess students’ performance in reading comprehension tasks, interview participation, and diary writing to check understanding of the diary and ability to express about school life. Homework: Evaluate students' polished diary entries and their reading of other diary entries to see if they can improve their writing and expand their reading scope. V. Design Purpose Skill Integration: Combine reading (comprehension), writing (diary entry), speaking (interview), and listening (interview) to deepen understanding of school life and diary writing. Real - life Application: Use interview and diary writing to help students connect with their own school experiences and improve their communication and writing skills. VI. Blackboard Design Unit 1 My first week Key Vocabulary & Phrases: excited, fantastic, wonder, physics, look forward to, take notes Diary Summary: Li Ming's first week: Monday - met classmates, shared summer stories; Wednesday - played football in gym class; Friday - had first physics class.
