It was a Friday evening. The living room lights were soft, but Mom sat at the desk with a frown (皱眉), looking at her computer. She worked as a designer, and this week she’d been worried about a big project—her design for a children’s park kept getting refused.
I walked over and saw crumpled (皱的) paper balls in the throw-away box. “Mom, do you want a cup of hot coffee?” I asked. She shook her head, not looking up. “Not right now, honey. I need to fix this design, or I’ll miss the deadline Her voice sounded tired and worried.
I went back to my room, thinking. Mom used to tell me that looking at happy things helps when you’re in trouble. Then I had an idea. I pulled out an old photo album from the shelf—filled with pictures of Mom and me making cookies last Christmas, playing in the park last summer, even Mom holding me when I was little. I added small notes next to each photo, like “This day you laughed so hard that you cried.”
When I finished, I carried the album to Mom. “Mom, can you look at this for a minute?” I said softly. She sighed but turned off her computer. As she turned the pages, her frown slowly melted (融化). When she saw the note next to our cookie-making photo, she smiled. “I almost forgot how messy that day was,” she said.
She pulled me into a hug. “Thank you, sweetie. This is exactly what I needed.” Later, Mom turned on her computer again—but this time, her eyes were bright. Sometimes, I thought, the best way to help someone isn’t to fix their problem, but to remind them of all the happy things they already have.

I used to see you help others. Now it’s your turn. Accept it.” Perkins didn’t know the woman, but he thanked her. He knew the reason she said that was to let him accept her help without any stress.

Artificial intelligence (人工智能), or AI for short, has become an important part of our daily life. 26 Let’s see how!
The role of teachers
What will the role of teachers be in this robotic classroom of the future? 27 Actually human teachers will always be needed to manage the classroom environment and to encourage students. A large part of education for children is teaching them social-emotional skills. While AI programs have already shown they can teach students to read and solve math problems, teaching social-emotional skills is harder. 28
AI in the classrooms
29 Grading, for example, can be done quickly and easily by using AI. In the future, some believe AI will even be able to tell if students are having problems with a certain subject based on their facial (面部的) expressions. AI can also provide a chance of receiving an education for those who have hearing problems or are unable to speak the local language.
30
AI in education is extending (延伸) outside the classroom, too. The technology is also being used to help students prepare for tests, such as college entrance exams. It can also help them with their homework.
Has your school used AI? Do you think AI is the future of education?
A.AI inside the classroom
B.AI outside the classroom
C.AI must take many teachers’ jobs.
D.Many teachers worry that AI will take their jobs.
E.Certain tasks can be made easier through the use of AI.
F.That kind of learning needs the human touch that only teachers can provide.
G.It is certain that AI will have a great effect on education in the next few years.
27.根据下文“Actually human teachers will always be needed to manage the classroom environment and to encourage students.”
28.根据上文“While AI programs have already shown they can teach students to read and solve math problems, teaching social-emotional skills is harder.”
29.根据下文“Grading, for example, can be done quickly and easily by using AI.”
30.根据下文“AI in education is extending outside the classroom, too.”
