Step1 Warm - up
- The teacher shows pictures of different rooms in a home (kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, living room) on the PPT.
- Ask students: "Which room do you like best?" "Do you think your home is safe?"
- Let students discuss in pairs and then share their ideas.
Step2 Presentation
Vocabulary Teaching:
- Show the word card "prevent". Say: "If you prevent something, you stop it from happening."
※prevent 预防,阻止
prevent sb./sth.(from) doing sth. 阻止某人 / 某物做某事
=stop sb./sth.(from) doing sth.=keep sb./sth. from doing sth.

- Show the word card "certain". Say: "Certain means some, not all."
- Show the word card "baking soda". Say: "Baking soda is a kind of powder used in cooking and also to put out kitchen fires."
- Show the word card "scissors". Say: "Scissors are used for cutting things."
- Show the word card "poison". Say: "Poison is a substance that can harm or kill you if you eat or drink it."
- Show the word card "heat". Say: "Heat is high temperature, like the heat from a stove."
- Show the word card "burn". Say: "If you burn yourself, you are hurt by fire or heat."
- Let students read the words after the teacher and then read them by themselves.
- Sentence Teaching:
- Show the picture of a kitchen accident.
Many serious accidents happen in people’s homes. So we can say 'Many serious accidents happen in people’s homes.
- Show the picture of a kitchen fire.
Don’t use water to put out kitchen fires. So the sentence is 'Don’t use water to put out kitchen fires.
- Let students repeat the sentences.
Step3 Reading
Pre - reading:
- Ask students the "THINK ABOUT IT" questions:
What place makes you feel the most comfortable?
Do you think your home is a safe place? Why or why not?
- Let students share their answers.
While - reading:
- Ask students to read the passage quickly and find out: "Which two rooms are the most dangerous in the house?"
- Then ask students to read the text carefully and answer the following questions:
Why are the kitchen and bathroom dangerous?
What safety tips are there for the kitchen?
What safety tips are there for the bathroom?
Walk around the classroom to help students who have difficulties.
Post - reading:
- Let students retell the main points of the passage in their own words with the help of key words and sentences.
※祈使句(Imperative)
用于表达命令、请求、劝告、警告、禁止等的句子叫做祈使句,祈使句最常用于表达命令。
1.Do型(即:动词原形(+宾语)+其它成分)。
2.Be型(即:Be + 表语(名词或形容词)+其它成分)。
3.Don’t 型(Do型和Be型的否定式都是在句首加don’t构成)
4.Let’s型(即:Let’s+ 动词原形 + 其它成分)。
5.有些可用no ,never开头,用来表示禁止性的祈使句。
※be sure to do sth. 意为 “ 务必 / 切记去做某事 ”, 常用于祈使句中 , 表示说话人向对方提出要求。
【拓展】 be sure about/of 意为 “ 对 …… 有把握 , 一定会 ” 。
◆ “keep+sth./sb.+ 形容词 ” 意为 “ 使 …… 处于某种状态 ”, 形容词作宾语补足语。
【拓展】 keep doing sth. 一直做某事 ;keep sb. doing sth. 让某人一直做某事。
Step4 Practice
- Vocabulary Practice:
- Play a "Word Match" game. Put the new words and their definitions on the PPT. Ask students to match the words with the correct definitions.
- Group Discussion:
- Divide students into groups of four. Let them discuss: "What other safety tips can you think of for the kitchen and bathroom?" Ask each group to list at least two tips for each room and then share with the class.
