教学过程
A. Warming - up (5 minutes)
Greet the students as usual.
Play a short video about birthday parties. The video can show people singing "Happy Birthday" song, blowing out candles, cutting the cake, etc. After watching the video, ask students some simple questions, such as "What did you see in the video?", "Do you like birthday parties? Why or why not?"
B. Lead - in (5 minutes)
Show some pictures of birthday - related items on the PPT, such as birthday cakes, candles, balloons, etc. Ask students to name these items in English one by one.
Then, start a conversation with students. For example, "I know many of you have had wonderful birthday parties. Can you tell me something about your last birthday party? What did you do at the party?" Invite several students to share their experiences.
C. Presentation (10 minutes)
Vocabulary Teaching
Present the new words and phrases on the PPT one by one. Teach students the correct pronunciation, spelling, and meaning. For example, when teaching "candle", show a picture of a candle and say, "Look, this is a candle. C - a - n - d - l - e, candle. We put candles on the birthday cake."
Use some simple actions to help students understand the phrases. For "blow out", blow out a pretend candle in front of the class; for "make a wish", close your eyes and put your hands together as if you are making a wish. Let students imitate the actions while repeating the phrases.
Sentence Pattern Teaching
Write some key sentence patterns on the blackboard, such as "At the party, we...". Explain the meaning and usage of the sentence pattern. Then, give some examples, like "At the party, we sing and dance." Ask students to make their own sentences using this pattern and share them with the class.
Do the same for other sentence patterns, like "We usually... on birthdays" and "People in different countries have different ways to celebrate their birthdays." Encourage students to think about different activities they do on birthdays and different celebration ways in different countries and express them with the learned sentence patterns.
D. Reading (10 minutes)
Pre - reading
Show the title and pictures of the reading text on the PPT. Let students predict what the text is about. Ask them some questions, such as "From the title and pictures, what do you think this passage will talk about?" Guide students to make reasonable predictions.
While - reading
Let students read the text quickly for the first time to get the general idea. Then, ask them to answer a general question, like "What is the main idea of this passage?"
Let students read the text carefully for the second time. Ask them to find the answers to some detailed questions, such as "What do people in many countries do on birthdays?", "What do Chinese people eat on birthdays and why?" Write these questions on the blackboard or show them on the PPT.
After students finish reading and finding the answers, check the answers together. Explain some difficult sentences and new knowledge points in the text, such as "The number of candles is the person's age." and "If he or she blows out all the candles in one go, the wish will come true."
Post - reading
Divide students into groups of four. Let them discuss in groups: "What are the differences between birthday celebrations in China and other countries?" Each group chooses a representative to report their discussion results to the class.
E. Practice (10 minutes)
Listening Practice
Play a short dialogue about a birthday party on the recorder. Let students listen carefully and answer some questions, such as "Whose birthday party is it?", "What do they do at the party?"
Play the dialogue again. This time, ask students to fill in the blanks with the missing words. Check the answers together after they finish.
Speaking Practice
Set up a situation: Suppose a student in the class is going to have a birthday party. Let students work in pairs to plan the party. They need to use the learned vocabulary and sentence patterns to talk about what to do at the party, what food to prepare, etc.
Invite several pairs to come to the front of the class and act out their dialogues. The rest of the class listen and give comments.
F. Summary and Homework (5 minutes)
Summary
Summarize the key points of this class with students, including new words, phrases, sentence patterns, and the main content of the reading text. Ask students to recall and repeat some important knowledge points.
Homework
Ask students to write a short passage about their ideal birthday party. They should use at least five new words and phrases and three key sentence patterns learned in this class.
Let students collect more information about birthday customs in different countries and share it with the class next time.
教学反思
After teaching this class, I think the following aspects need to be reflected. Firstly, in the warming - up and lead - in part, the video and pictures successfully attracted students' attention and aroused their interest in the topic. However, when inviting students to share their birthday experiences, some students were a little shy and not very active. Maybe I should have given more guidance and examples to make them more confident to speak.
Secondly, during the vocabulary and sentence pattern teaching, most students could master the new knowledge through actions and examples. But for a few students with poor foundation, they still had some difficulties in pronunciation and usage. In the future, more individual tutoring should be provided.
In the reading part, the pre - reading prediction activity helped students better understand the text. But in the group discussion after reading, some groups did not fully express their opinions. I should have set more specific requirements and time limits to make the discussion more effective.
For the practice part, the listening and speaking practice activities achieved the expected results. Most students could complete the tasks. But there is still room for improvement in terms of the accuracy and fluency of students' English expressions.
Finally, for the summary and homework part, the summary helped students review the key points. And the homework assignment can further consolidate students' knowledge. However, I need to pay more attention to the evaluation of students' homework to ensure that they can really improve their writing ability. Overall, this class has both advantages and disadvantages. I will continue to improve my teaching methods to better meet the needs of students.
