Unit 1 Lights, camera, action! Period 1 Welcome to the unit & Reading(1)
Ⅰ. 话题拓展阅读。
Along with the progress of reform and openingup, the Chinese film industry has also made remarkable achievements and become in a flourishing(繁荣的) state in economic growth. It has recorded social changes in the past decades through the medium of the film. The film market of China has been much better than that of North America, becoming the largest in the world during the first season of 2019.
In the original stage of reform and openingup, old Chinese movies were rescreened and foreign movies were dubbed(译制). Audiences' enthusiasm for movies was lighted up by both these practices. In 1979, the attendance of Chinese moviegoers reached a record high of 29.3 billion. However, televisions and other entertainment activities sprang up in the late 1980s and drew many audiences away from movies when the film market faced a danger.
The employment of a socialist market economy in China in 1992 brought energy again to the film industry. With the introduction of free competition and reforms, it made an abundant recovery and experienced rapid growth. In the same period, China began to introduce overseas movies into the home market, especially those from Hollywood. Despite the argument that foreign movies occupy the space of homemade ones, Chinese movies with increasingly higher quality have gained a firm foothold in the local market with box offices setting several new records.
The development of the Internet has added new energy to the Chinese film industry. In 2015, the powerful Internet companies, one called Tencent and another Alibaba, developed their own film aims and began to adapt popular online stories for movies. With big data, more accurate marketing skills can target specific audiences to satisfy their personal preferences. Yet the development of online cinemas may pose threats to the survival of offline ones. Now the film industry is exploring more advanced film screening technologies to provide audiences with an improved movie experience.

Ⅱ. 七选五。
It is rather common that few schools make science attractive. Textbooks are as dull as dictionaries. As a result, children think that science is only for people as clever as Einstein. But actually children start out as natural scientists, eager to look into the world around them. Helping them enjoy science can be easy. __1__ You just have to share your children's curiosity.
Give them time to think and ask. Adults are always used to asking children questions and waiting for their answers. It is typical that after asking a question, adults wait only one second or less for an answer, no time for a child to think. In fact, when adults increase their “wait time” to three seconds or more, children give more logical and complete answers. Besides, if given some chances, children can also ask some wonderful and creative questions. __2__
Watch your language. Once you have a child involved in a science discussion, don't jump in with “That's right” or “Very good”. These words work well when it comes to encouraging good behaviour. __3__ Instead, keep things going by saying “That's interesting” or “I'd never thought of it that way before”, or coming up with more questions or ideas.
__4__ It doesn't make sense. Children are always thinking, without your telling them to. What's more, this can turn a conversation into a performance. The child will try to find the answer you want, in as few words as possible, so that he will be a less likely target for your disagreement.
Teach them by examples. __5__ Let children look at their fingertips through a magnifying glass(放大镜), and they'll understand why you want them to wash before dinner. Instead of saying that water evaporates(蒸发), set a pot of water to boil and let them watch the water level drop.
A. Encourage children to “think”.
B. Never push a child to “think”.
C. Reallife impressions of nature are far more impressive.
D. It is necessary for parents to tell children some stories about science.
E. There's no need for a lot of scientific terms or expensive lab equipment.
F. But in talking about science, quick praise can signal that discussion is over.
G. This ability comes from the deep thinking and the desire to know what they don't know.
1.________ 2.________ 3.________ 4.________ 5.________

At the age of 60, my father was hit by a car when he walked to a nearby supermarket to buy vegetables. After sleeping for two months in hospital, he finally woke up. His waking up __1__ all our family. Unluckily, he didn't know any of us. Doctors said his brain was hurt so __2__ that he had lost all his memory. And his mental age was only five. We were sorry to hear about the bad news.
Since I was his only child, it was my __3__ to look after him. He forgot nearly everything, but he did remember he liked sweets. I used the sweets as a way of __4__ bad behaviour. I would give him one sweet __5__ he didn't sit on the ground, a second for stopping painting on the wall, and another for not trying to put clothes on the dog.
Dad became the __6__ child in town. He broke my window with a ball and __7__ our telephone in water like washing clothes. When I told him he was doing __8__ things, he would answer smilingly, “I like that!” My son, then aged five, and two eightyearold daughters, welcomed their __9__ playmate. He would happily make them real cigarettes, __10__ his sweets with them and carry them high in the apple tree to pick apples.
It is eight years since the __11__. Dad has accepted the fact that he is the __12__ of his three playmates but not a brother. He has also accepted that they grow taller but his __13__ stays the same. Though it is still __14__ to take care of him, he brings us a lot of fun. In some way I think it is a(n) __15__ thing to look after Dad like looking after a child.
