Mowgli knew he got many enemies like the tiger Shere Khan, so he ran far until he came to a village. Some little boys were looking after some cows, but when they saw Mowgli, they shouted and ran away.
He sat by the gate. When a man came out of the village, Mowgli opened his mouth to show he wanted food. The man ran and came back with a hundred other people. They all saw the bite-marks (咬痕) on Mowgli’s arms and legs.
“Look,” said a man, “those are the bite-marks of wolves. He is a wolf-child who has run away from the jungle (丛林) .” “He is a good-looking boy,” one woman said. “Messua, he looks like your boy that was taken by the tiger.” “Let me look,” said Messua. “Yes,he’s thin, but he looks like my son.” “Take him home, Messua,” the villagers said. “The jungle took your boy and gave this one back.”
Messua took Mowgli to her house and gave him milk and bread. This was Mowgli’s first time in a house. He didn’t like it. It felt like a prison where he couldn’t do what he wanted freely.

“Wake, Little Brother,” he said. “I bring news. Shere Khan has gone away. You burnt his coat with the Red Flower. But he says he’ll kill you when he comes back.”
“I remember what I said about Shere Khan,” said Mowgli. “But it is good to have news. Will you always bring me news, Grey Brother?”

Salt has been an important part of Chinese culture for thousands of years. In ancient times, people discovered clever ways to make salt from seawater and salt mines (矿井). Let’s look at how people made salt using traditional skills.
One of the oldest ways was boiling (煮) seawater. Workers would first collect seawater in large pots. They built fires under the pots and boiled the water for a long time. As the water dried up, white salt was left at the bottom. Another way was using salt mines. In places like Sichuan, people dug deep wells to reach saltwater underground. They used bamboo to bring the water out, then boiled it to get salt.
The tools for ancient salt making were simple but smart. About 2500 years ago, bamboo baskets were used to get the dirt out of the saltwater, and pots heated (加热) evenly, making the temperature the same in all parts.
During the Tang Dynasties, salt making skills improved greatly. In sunny areas, people used sun drying. They built stone pools near the sea to let seawater in, and waited for the sun to dry the water, leaving salt. This saved energy and made the step faster.
Today, most salt is made by machines, but ancient skills are still remembered. In some villages, old salt wells and bamboo tools are kept as cultural treasures. Visitors can watch how salt was made long ago and learn about how smart ancestors were.

As we all know, the International Volunteer Day is December 5th every year. It started on December 17th, 1985. It’s a day to honor (尊重) volunteers all over the world.
Our country now has 450,000 volunteers. They provided more than 4.5 billion hours of volunteer work. Someone says that for students, this kind of work isn’t meaningful and wastes time. But I think that we can get much from it.
First of all, volunteering is a good way to open our eyes. We may do something we never do and meet different kinds of people. We can talk with them and get their good ideas.
Secondly, volunteers, especially students can learn much from practice. As students, we are interested in books and learn some knowledge from it. After we become volunteers, we will have the chance to put our knowledge into practice.
What’s more, volunteering is good for our future job. That is to say, when we take part in other jobs for free, we can get some experience and know how to solve some problems we never met before. In a word, volunteering is a form of practice and experience. We shouldn’t say no to it.

Do you enjoy reading English books? It’s a good way to learn English, but finding the right ones can be hard. You may find books for kids are too easy, while difficult ones can make you want to give up. Here are some ideas that could help you!
Interest is the best teacher! Choose the books that you’re interested in. You’ll enjoy reading more and find it easier to learn new words. For example, if you’re a sports fan, go to read books about sports. You will notice many words shared by both your first language and English.
If you’re not sure whether it’s right for you or not, experts suggest doing the five-finger test. Every time you meet a new word, raise a finger. If you raise four or five fingers on one page, perhaps the book is too challenging. But if you only raise less than one finger, or don’t raise any at all, maybe the book is too easy!
Jo Blackmore from the British Council (英国文化委员会) gives two smart good ideas. One is to read an English book you’ve already read in your first language. Another clever choice is to read a book of a film that you’ve already seen. Both ideas suggest reading something we’ve known well. Jo thinks this makes English easier to understand than any other way.
By following these tips, you can find reading English books enjoyable without feeling too hard or too easy.
This passage gives some ideas on ____50____.
First the book you choose depends on ____51____. You’ll find it easier to read and learn new words. Second, ____52____. If you find 4-5 unknown words on one page, it’s too hard. Less than 1 means too easy. Moreover, Jo Blackmore thinks reading something you know well is ____53____ to understand English.
Those ideas will make your reading more enjoyable.

【详解】句意:他已经学了两年英语了。分析句子可知,句子是现在完成时,其否定形式是在助动词has后加not,其缩写形式为hasn’t,already在否定句中要变为yet,放在句末,符合现在完成时否定句的结构要求。故填hasn’t;yet。

First, the book you choose depends on ____51____.
