She even labeled (贴标签) everything. I always looked for everything. Over time, Kate got neater and I got messier. She would push my dirty clothing over, and I would lay my books on her tidy desk. We both got tired of each other. War broke out one evening. Kate came into the room. Soon, I heard her screaming, “Take your shoes away! Why under my bed!” Deafened, I saw my shoes flying at me. I jumped to my feet and started yelling. She yelled back louder. The room was filled with anger. We could not have stayed together for a single minute but for a phone call. Kate answered it. From her end of the conversation, I could tell right away her grandma was seriously ill. When she hung up, she quickly crawled (爬) under her covers, sobbing. Obviously, that was something she should not go through alone. All of a sudden, a warm feeling of sympathy rose up in my heart. Slowly, I collected the pencils, took back the books, made my bed, cleaned the socks and swept the floor, even on her side. I got so into my work that I even didn’t notice Kate had sat up. She was watching, her tears dried and her expression one of disbelief. Then, she reached out her hands to grasp mine. I looked up into her eyes. She smiled at me, “Thanks. ” Kate and I stayed roommates for the rest of the year. We didn’t always agree, but we learned the key to living together: giving in, cleaning up and holding on. 4. C A recent study of ancient and modern elephants has come up with the unexpected conclusion that the African elephant is divided into two distinct (不同的) species. The discovery was made by researchers at York and Harvard universities when they were examining the genetic relationship between the ancient woolly mammoth and mastodon to modern elephants — the Asian elephant, African forest elephant, and African savanna elephant. Once they obtained DNA sequences (序列) from two fossils (化石) , mammoths and mastodons, the team compared them with DNA from modern elephants. They found to their amazement that modern forest and savanna elephants are as distinct from each other as Asian elephants and mammoths. The scientists used detailed genetic analysis to prove that the African savanna elephants and the African forest elephants have been distinct species for several million years. The divergence of the two species took place around the time of the divergence of Asian elephants and woolly mammoths. This result amazed all the scientists. There has long been debate in the scientific community that the two might be separate species, but this is the most convincing scientific evidence so far that they are indeed different species. Previously, many naturalists believed that African savanna elephants and African forest elephants were two populations of the same species, despite the elephants’ significant size differences. The savanna elephant has an average shoulder height of 3.5 metres while the forest elephant has an average shoulder height of 2.5 metres. The savanna elephant weighs between six and seven tons, roughly double the weight of the forest elephant. But the fact that they look so different does not necessarily mean they are different species. However the proof lay in the analysis of the DNA. Alfred Roca, assistant professor in the Department of Animal Sciences at the University of Illinois, said, “We now have to treat the forest and savanna elephants as two different units for conservation purposes. Since 1950, all African elephants have been conserved as one species. Now that we know the forest and savanna elephants are two very distinct animals, the forest elephant should become a bigger priority (优先) for conservation purposes.” 8. One of the fossils studied by the researchers is that of _________. A. the Asian elephant B. the forest elephant C. the savanna elephant D. the mastodon elephant 9. The underlined word “divergence” in Paragraph 4 means “_________”. A. Evolution B. separation C. exhibition D. examination 10. The researchers’ conclusion was based on a study of the African elephant’s _________. A. DNA B. height C. weight D. population 11. What are Alfred Roca’s words mainly about? A. The conservation of African elephants. B. The purpose of studying African elephants. C. The way to divide African elephants into two units. D. The reason for the distinction of African elephants. D When young children’s behavior becomes challenging, many parents turn to threats. Many parents threatened to leave an activity or place, or not get snacks. “Discipline (管教) helps young children learn what behaviors are safe and proper and can play an important role in helping them learn the difference between right and wrong,” said Susan Woolford, M. D. “Empty threats, however, destroy trust and aren’t usually effective.” Most parents surveyed reported getting input about discipline strategies from several sources, turning to the child’s other parent, talking with friends or using parenting books, articles and social media. Meanwhile, less than a fifth of parents have discussed discipline with a healthcare provider and one in eight parents say they haven’t thought about their discipline strategies. Some parents surveyed admitted using discipline strategies that aren’t recommended by experts, with two in five sometimes spanking (打屁股). “Discipline strategies should be proper for the child’s age and developmental level.” Woolford said. For children aged one to two, distraction (分散注意力) and redirection are often most effective, noting that children this young are exploring their environment and willful misbehavior is quite few. But after age two, children understand their actions can cause a reaction from others and may increasingly test that out. Parents of children aged three to five surveyed were more likely to use warnings, speak firmly, and give timeouts. During these preschool ages, parents should let them know what their misbehavior will lead to. For instance, if a child throws a drink out of anger, a proper punishment would be to have them clean up the mess while an unrelated punishment will be less effective. Reactions should be immediate, so the child understands the connection with their misbehavior. As children grow, they respond differently to various discipline methods, so parents should adapt their strategies and stay open to new approaches. “Balancing correction with positive strengthening — like praise and rewards — helps children build self-respect while learning from their mistakes.” Woolford said. 12. What will threatening bring to kids according to Susan Woolford? A. Less belief in parents. B. More improper behaviors. C. Unwillingness to accept gifts. D. Inability to tell right from wrong. 13 What is paragraph 2 mainly about? A. Effective threats to children. B. Situations of discipline strategies. C. Various methods of parenting. D. Reasons for children’s misbehavior. 14. What should parents do with the misbehavior of children aged 3 to 5? A. Reason with them patiently and seriously. B. Reflect on the causes of their mistakes. C. Forgive them for their childish actions. D Punish them immediately and properly. 15. What can we infer from the last paragraph? A. Praise and rewards ensure self-respect. B. Disciplining children is a flexible process. C. Parenting becomes easier as children grow. D. Correcting mistakes is a new parenting approach. How to Improve Your Memory Memory is an important part of our lives. After only a month in school, she began to come home on a regular basis asking for pencils, crayons, paper, etc. At first I just provided whatever she needed, never questioning her. After ongoing requests for objects that should have easily lasted a mere six weeks of fourth grade, I became worried and asked her, “Gina, what are you doing with your school items?” She would always reply with an answer that satisfied me. One day, after offering the same thing only a week earlier, I became angry with her asking for more. Knowing her excuses would no longer work, she lowered her head and began to cry. I lifted her tiny chin (下巴) and looked into those big brown eyes, filled now with tears. I waited for what seemed like a year for her to answer. “Mom,” she began, “there is a boy in my class; he doesn’t have any of the items he needs to do his work. The other kids make fun of him because his papers are in a mess and he only has two crayons to color with. I have been putting the new items you bought me in his desk before the others come in, so he doesn’t know it’s me. Please don’t get mad at me, Mom. I didn’t mean to tell you a lie, but I didn’t want anyone to know it was me.” My heart sank as I stood there in disbelief. She had taken on the role of an adult and tried to hide it like a child. I knelt down and hugged her to me, not wanting her to see my own tears. When I pulled myself together, I stood up and said, “Gina, I would never get mad at you for wanting to help someone, but why didn’t you just come and tell me?” The next day I visited Mrs. Melton and told her what Gina had said. I then learned that John’s family had just moved here. John was the eldest of four boys and their parents were struggling to make ends meet. With Christmas drawing near, I became increasingly concerned about John and his family. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The next morning, we set out for John’s home. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2025-2026暑期开学考联考高二年级英语试题 (考试时间:120分钟 试卷满分:150分) 注意事项: 1. 1. A. the Asian elephant B. the forest elephant C the savanna elephant D. the mastodon elephant 9. 8. D 9. B 10. A 11. Now that we know the forest and savanna elephants are two very distinct animals, the forest elephant should become a bigger priority (优先) for conservation purposes.”(伊利诺伊大学动物科学系助理教授Alfred Roca说:“为了保护的目的,我们现在必须把森林象和草原象当作两个不同的单位来对待。 A。 D When young children’s behavior becomes challenging, many parents turn to threats. 13. What is paragraph 2 mainly about? D. Punish them immediately and properly. 15. What can we infer from the last paragraph? A. Praise and rewards ensure self-respect. B. Disciplining children is a flexible process. C. Parenting becomes easier as children grow. D. Correcting mistakes is a new parenting approach. A 13. B 14. D 15. 故选A。 根据第二段“Most parents surveyed reported getting input about discipline strategies from several sources, turning to the child’s other parent, talking with friends or using parenting books, articles and social media. Meanwhile, less than a fifth of parents have discussed discipline with a healthcare provider and one in eight parents say they haven’t thought about their discipline strategies. Some parents surveyed admitted using discipline strategies that aren’t recommended by experts, with two in five sometimes spanking 根据第四段中“For instance, if a child throws a drink out of anger, a proper punishment would be to have them clean up the mess while an unrelated punishment will be less effective. Reactions should be immediate, so the child understands the connection with their misbehavior.(例如,如果一个孩子因为生气而把饮料扔了,适当的惩罚是让他们清理混乱,而不相关的惩罚将不太有效。 根据最后一段中“As children grow, they respond differently to various discipline methods, so parents should adapt their strategies and stay open to new approaches.(随着孩子的成长,他们对各种管教方法的反应不同,所以父母应该调整自己的策略,并对新的方法保持开放的态度)”可知,管教是一个需要灵活调整的过程。 How to Improve Your Memory Memory is an important part of our lives. Today, it is still highly respected and practiced, both in China and around the world. 36. it 37. was considered 38. especially 39. characteristics 40. which 41. freer 42. as 43. called 44. an 45. has influenced 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了中国书法,包括其悠久历史、重要地位、多样风格、所需工具以及对其他艺术形式的深远影响。 故填it。 故填was considered。 故填which。 故填as。 故填an。 故填has influenced。 可适当增加细节,以使行文连贯; Dear Peter, ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Yours Li Hua 【答案】Dear Peter, I'm delighted to hear that you're interested in our school's Campus Reading Festival. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文1 With Christmas drawing near, I became increasingly concerned about John and his family. The thought of them spending the holiday season without the basic necessities, let alone gifts, weighed heavily on my heart. I knew I had to do something, so I suggested organizing a secret Santa for John and his brothers. Hearing that, Gina jumped excitedly and then got down to making a list of gifts such as clothes, toys, and school supplies they desperately needed. We also included a few extra treats to make their Christmas a little brighter. The night before Christmas eve, we wrapped everything up with care, each gift labeled with a personalized message of love and encouragement. The next morning, we set out for John’s home. As we approached their modest house, I could see a mixture of expectation and nervousness in Gina’s eyes. Gathering courage, we knocked on the door. John’s mother answered, looking surprised to see us. We explained our mission and she quickly invited us inside, where the boys were. “Merry Christmas!” We handed over the gifts. John’s face lit up with pure joy and his brothers screamed excitedly, their eyes shining with gratitude. Gina watched, a smile spreading across her face as she saw the impact of her kindness multiplied. It was then that I realized the power of compassion and the joy coming from giving. 2 With Christmas drawing near, I became increasingly concerned about John and his family. How would they spend Christmas through tough time? Surely they would not have money for gifts. Considering this, my mind was set on helping them. Therefore, I told Gina that instead of the usual gift exchange, we would go shopping to select some gifts for John’s family. On hearing my plan, Gina’s eyes sparkled with delight. She couldn’t wait to choose things for them. Exhausted but excited, we returned home with necessities they would need and carefully wrapped the gifts. The next morning, we set out for John’s home. Upon arriving, Gina and I carefully placed the wrapped gifts and decorations on their doorstep, our hearts pounding with excitement. We knocked on the door and hurried back to our car, holding our breath to wait for their reaction. Seeing their faces lit up with surprise and joy, I knew we had made a right decision. Gina never told a soul in school about what we did. Anyhow, we hoped that our small kindness could bring some joy and warmth to their Christmas, and brighten their lives in the future. 词汇激活 行为类 ①包装:wrapup/pack up ②接近,靠近:approach/near/draw closer to/get close to ③尖叫:scream/yell/cry out/shout 情绪类 ①激动地:excitedly/with excitement ②惊讶的:surprised/shocked/amazed/astonished 【点睛】[高分句型1] Hearing that, Gina jumped excitedly and then got down to making a list of gifts such as clothes, toys, and school supplies they desperately needed.(运用了现在分词短语作状语以及省略关系代词的定语从句) [高分句型2] John’s face lit up with pure joy and his brothers screamed excitedly, their eyes shining with gratitude.(运用了独立主格结构作状语) [高分句型3] It was then that I realized the power of compassion and the joy coming from giving.(运用了“it was…that…”
