教学过程
1. Warming - up (5 minutes)
Greet the students as usual.
Show some pictures of different family activities, such as watching TV together, having a meal, playing games, etc. on the PPT. Ask students: "What are they doing in the pictures?" Encourage students to answer using simple sentences they have learned before, like "They are watching TV." "They are having dinner." This can review the simple present tense and arouse students' interest in family activities.
2. New Words Teaching (10 minutes)
Present the new words one by one on the PPT. For each word, show a corresponding picture. For example, when teaching "picnic", show a picture of a family having a picnic in the park. Read the word aloud clearly, and ask students to repeat after you several times, paying attention to the pronunciation.
Use some simple sentences to help students understand the usage of the words. For instance, for "cookie", say "I like to eat cookies. They are very delicious." Let students imitate and make their own sentences.
Do a quick word - guessing game. Describe the meaning of a word in English without saying the word itself, and ask students to guess which word it is. For example, describe "sandwich" as "It's a kind of food. We can put meat, vegetables or cheese between two pieces of bread. What is it?" This can strengthen students' memory of new words.
3. Text Learning (15 minutes)
First, let students listen to the passage about Jenny's family picnic on the recording. While listening, ask them to pay attention to the pronunciation and intonation, and try to get a general idea of what the passage is about.
Then, show the text on the PPT. Read the text aloud sentence by sentence, and explain the new words, phrases and sentence patterns in the context. For example, when teaching "I’m putting the food and drinks on a tablecloth.", explain the present continuous tense structure "be doing sth." and the phrase "put... on...".
Divide students into pairs. Let them read the text together, and then ask each other questions about the content, such as "What is Jenny's mother doing?" "Where are they having the picnic?"
Select some pairs to stand up and report their questions and answers to the class. Give praise and encouragement to those students who perform well.
4. Practice (10 minutes)
Grammar Practice
Show some sentences on the PPT, some in the simple present tense and some in the present continuous tense. Ask students to distinguish the tenses and explain the differences. For example:
"He plays football every day." (Simple present tense, indicating a habitual action)
"He is playing football now." (Present continuous tense, indicating an action happening at the moment)
Then, give students some prompts and ask them to make sentences using the present continuous tense. For example, give "Jenny, read a book" and students should say "Jenny is reading a book."
Speaking Practice
Divide students into groups of four. Suppose they are having a family picnic. Each student should describe what they and their family members are doing during the picnic using the present continuous tense. For example, "I am flying a kite. My father is fishing by the lake. My mother is preparing food. My little brother is running around."
Select some groups to perform their dialogues in front of the class. Let other students listen carefully and give comments.
5. Summary and Homework (5 minutes)
Summary
Summarize the new words, phrases and the present continuous tense learned in this class with students. Ask students to recall and repeat them together.
Emphasize the importance of family activities and the joy they bring.
Homework
Ask students to write a short passage about a family activity they participated in, using at least five sentences in the present continuous tense.
Ask students to teach the new words and phrases they learned today to their family members and have a short conversation with them about family activities in English.
教学反思
After teaching this lesson, I have the following reflections. In the teaching process, the use of pictures and real - life examples in the new words teaching part can effectively help students understand and remember new words. However, in the grammar practice part, some students still have difficulty distinguishing the present continuous tense from the simple present tense. Maybe more vivid examples and more practice exercises are needed in the future. During the group speaking practice, most students can actively participate, but a few students are a bit shy and not very willing to speak. I should pay more attention to these students and encourage them to be more active in class. Overall, through this lesson, most students have a certain understanding of the new knowledge, but there is still room for improvement in teaching methods and student participation.
