He missed Fern, the little girl who had raised him on a bottle from the time he was a tiny piglet (小猪). He thought about her gentle hands and her sweet, comforting voice. Wilbur loved her very much, and without her, the barn seemed so empty and quiet. He wished she was there to talk to him or to play games, but Fern was back at her home, leaving Wilbur alone in the big, old barn.
As he lay there, feeling the cool night air and listening to the rustling (沙沙声) of the leaves outside, a soft voice suddenly broke the silence. “Why are you so lonely?” it asked. Wilbur jumped to his feet and looked around, his heart pounding with surprise and curiosity. “Who’s there?” he whispered, peering (仔细看) into the shadows of the barn.
“I’m right here,” the voice answered gently. “Look up in the corner.”
There, in the corner of the barn, Wilbur saw a large spider spinning a web. The spider smiled down at him. “My name is Charlotte,” she said softly. “I’ve been watching you, little pig, and I think we could be friends. You seem like a nice pig, and I think you could use a friend.”
▲ He had never had a spider as a friend before. “You want to be my friend?” he asked, feeling both hopeful and confused (困惑的). He had always thought spiders were scary, but Charlotte seemed different.
“Of course,” Charlotte answered warmly, her many eyes twinkling in the moonlight. “We all need friends, Wilbur, especially in a place like this. I can see that you have a good heart, and I believe we could be very good friends. You don’t have to be lonely anymore.”
Wilbur felt a warm glow in his heart as he listened to Charlotte’s words. He could hardly believe it. Maybe he wouldn’t be so lonely after all. He watched in fascination as Charlotte continued to spin her web. Starting middle school made me really nervous (紧张的), especially when my best friend, Callie, suddenly joined the popular group. It felt like she left me behind, and I was alone. On the first day, I quickly realized things were different. Callie didn’t sit with me anymore, and I found it difficult to get along with my new classmates.
At lunchtime, I ended up sitting by myself until I met three new girls—Mia, Emma, and Alexis. They were so friendly, and soon, I started feeling more peaceful around them. As the days passed, I spent more time with them, and slowly, school didn’t seem so bad.
One day, we had a great idea: we decided to start a cupcake club! Everyone would add something different to the group. I’ve always loved baking (烘焙), so I was excited to join. Together, we planned to bake cupcakes and sell them to raise money for the school. This means we wanted to collect money by selling the cupcakes.
As time went on, my confidence grew. I realized I didn’t need to be part of the “popular” group to feel happy. Even though Callie and I weren’t as close as we used to be, I was OK with that. I had found new friends who liked me for who I really was.
Through the cupcake club, I found my own place in middle school. I learned that being true to myself was important. I felt happy and confident, knowing that with the support of my new friends, I could face any problems that came my way.

Friendship is very important. However, it is not easy to build a lasting (持久的) friendship. In order to do so, you need to make the person trust you if you want to build a friendship with him or her. Of course, it is easier said than done. 58
Firstly, be careful when you want to make friends with someone. He or she may not be as kind as you think. 59 Once I told a secret (秘密) of mine to one of my friends. I told him not to tell the secret to anybody else. He agreed. But that was a lie! I was very surprised when I found out that he had told the secret to many people. It was so terrible.
Secondly, it is not easy to keep friendships. You shouldn’t be selfish (自私), but you should think about problems from the side of your friends. 60 A friendship won’t last long if there is always a fight.
My last suggestion is: You don’t have to use presents to show that you care for your friends. 61 Instead, they are made up of kindness and true love.
62 They are a treasure in our life.
A.Care about your friends.
B.It is also important to keep calm.
C.Friendships are not build on gifts.
D.He or she may lie and may cause trouble.
E.I think your friends don’t give you true love.
F.Here are some suggestions (建议) about making friends.
G.But reading books about friendship will continue to be my favourite.

Wilbur was lonely. He lay down in the straw, staring at the wooden beams of the barn (畜棚). He could not sleep.

How can teenagers make true friends?
Everyone has his own way to make friends. When it comes to choosing friends, some people believe that we should make friends who are the same as us, while others think that we should make friends who are different from us. Both views have their merits, but I believe that teenagers should make friends who are different from them.
Firstly, making friends who are different from us allows us to learn new things. Each person has unique experiences, ideas, and interests. By interacting with people who are different, we can broaden our horizons and gain new knowledge and skills. Secondly, having friends who are different from us can make our lives more interesting and colorful. Every individual has a unique story to tell, and these stories can add more depth and variety to our lives. Lastly, making friends who are different from us can help us develop a deeper understanding of each other. While there may be initial challenges in communication and understanding, the effort to bridge these differences can lead to stronger and more meaningful friendships.
By respecting and appreciating our differences, we can build a foundation of mutual respect and understanding, which is essential for a lasting friendship.
