The year 2024 has come to a close. From discovering unforgettable experiences to sharing personal growth as student writers, every story talks about how Teens has opened new doors to teenagers. Now let’s take a look at our readers’ stories with Teens.
Yin Peixin 14 years old
In 2020, I saw an ad in the Teens paper, calling for young writers to join their team. Although, I was only ten, I sent an email. To my surprise, I was accepted. That time, I had just moved from California to Wuhan and had a hard time fitting in. But writing for Teens helped me grow in confidence. Now, I’ve been a student reporter for over years. I also took part in many worldwide discussions with other student reporters.
Wang Shuotong13 years old
Every time I received a new copy of Teens, I would head straight to the culture pages. The best article I read in 2024 was about celadon porcelain (青花瓷). It covered the history of Chinese porcelain. The design of the page was beautiful with a light blue background and a picture of celadon porcelain. I’ve safely kept that page of the newspaper in my collection.
Wang Hexuan15 years old
In 2024, my family subscribed (订阅) to two copies of Teens. One is for me at school, and the other is for my grandfather at home. My grandfather doesn’t understand English, so why does he subscribe to the newspaper? When I first joined the Teens school reporter team in junior high. I told my grandfather. He was so happy that he subscribed to the paper to read my articles. I still remember when my first article was on the front cover. My grandfather carried the newspaper everywhere, proudly showing it to his friends, saying, “Look, this was written by my granddaughter—all in English!”
Xia Boen14 years old
In 2024, I continued writing articles for Teens like I did in 2023. But in 2024, I found a new meaning in the writing process. I call 2023 “the year I wrote for Teens”, and 2024 “the year I wrote with Teens”. For example, last summer, I visited Jingdezhen and wanted to write a travel article about my experience. I wrote a rough draft (初稿) that wasn’t perfect, but with helpful suggestions from Teens, I finished the article. It was published, and that gave me a lot of encouragement. After that, I wrote more articles, improving my skills each time.

“The mother was sitting on the grass with her baby, and I asked her if she was all right. She said, ‘My other baby is still inside the burning (燃烧) house,’ and I thought, ‘Oh no, I have to save the baby.’ That was what I had to do,” said John.

Why not find a new friend in 2025—yourself! You may want to get love and care from a good friendship. Well, you shouldn’t have to go far to find them.
Loving yourself, also called self-love, means being as kind to yourself as you are to others. Give yourself the love and care you should give your friends and family. Becky Goddard-Hill, the writer of Create Your Own Confidence, says it means speaking to yourself with kindness. It also means taking really good care of your body and mind.
Studies show that self-love is good for your schoolwork, health and friendships. Self-love makes you believe in yourself. It makes you feel that you deserve (值得) good things, such as kind friends and fun experiences. It doesn’t mean you’ll be happy all the time, but when you face difficulties, you won’t upset yourself.
Start by being kind instead of being angry. When you make a mistake, don’t get angry with yourself. Tell yourself that everyone makes mistakes sometimes. Then work out what you could do differently next time. Remember that no one is perfect. Becky suggests writing down your strengths (优点) as they can help you remember how excellent you are. “Looking at the list often will help bring out the best in you,” says Becky.
54.Which of the following might the writer of the passage agree with?
A.Self-love is only about being kind to others.
B.Self-love helps you feel better about yourself and face difficulties.
C.Self-love means you will never make mistakes.
D.Self-love is not important for your health.
55.Which shows the right order of the information in this passage?
A.Meanings→Reasons→Ways B.Ways→Reasons→Meanings
C.Meanings→Ways→Reasons D.Reasons→Ways→Meanings
56.What should you do when you make a mistake?
A.Learn from the mistake and avoid it next time.
B.Get angry with yourself and keep it in your mind.
C.Tell yourself that people always make mistakes.
D.Remember that no one is perfect and forget it quickly.
57.Which should not be on the list mentioned in the last paragraph?
①Tina thinks I’m helpful. ②I’m good at playing soccer.
③Wendy often disagrees with me. ④I won third prize in the high jump.
A.① B.② C.④ D.③
58.What’s the best title for the passage?
A.Believe in yourself B.Learn from past mistakes
C.Be a friend to yourself D.Treat people with love and care
E
Do you have clothes in your wardrobe (衣橱) that you don’t wear? What about toys you don’t play with or books you don’t read? 59
Many kids (and grown-ups too) have too many things. 60 There is no doubt that owning too many things is bad for us, and we have to change.
Imagine a simple bedroom: a clean white floor, a comfortable bed, a wardrobe, and a desk with a chair. That’s all! Many people believe that we don’t need a lot of things to be happy. They keep only things that are really important to them.
You might be thinking, “Do I have to get rid of all my toys or books?” The answer is no! 61 But it’s also a good idea to tidy up sometimes.
62 For example, if you haven’t played with a toy for quite a while, you can donate it or give it to a friend who will enjoy it.
Cleaning your room often helps you find things more easily. 63 You’ll have more space to do things you like. Wouldn’t that be fantastic?
A.Here are some ways to make it clean.
B.If your answer is yes, you’re not alone!
C.It’s OK to keep things that make you happy, like photos or special gifts.
D.When our rooms are messy, we can feel stressed and find it difficult to relax.
E.You should keep all the toys and books in case you may need them some day.

Dear Mark,
Thanks for your e-mail. I am sorry to know that you are having problems at school.
It’s common to face such situations. Since you’re introverted, start small. Try chatting with classmates about shared interests, like the books or sports. Joining study groups is also a good idea—you can discuss homework, and it helps build connections. When communicating, listen carefully first, then share your thoughts. Also, participate in class activities actively; it shows your enthusiasm.
Don’t be afraid of rejection. Every step helps. With time, you’ll find it easier to interact, and the pressure will ease.
Cheer up!
David
